Constant Bonk every 4-5secs, after OSX update

I cannot seem to figure out why immediately after start up my mac mini starts bonking sounds consistantly. Was this an update issue for mavericks?
Please help!!
Thanks, Vince

I have solved my issue causeing the constant bonk sound.
First, I went to my user account and disabled all my startup items.
Then did a reboot, the culprit for me was a menu application "Free Memory", here is the just:
It would seem that the application was in a constant state of  "Re authorizing" the app,
But  here is the kicker, the authorization request page for the app was  hidden, no visable window for the request, So then it went into a  constant failure to get the authorization, hence the repeated bonk noise  for me...
after the system reboot, the  authorization page finally generated and I was able to disable the App  responsible for it, since deleted...
Hope this helps, i know i was going crazy from it.

  • Apple Wireless Bluetooth Keyboard no longer works after OSX update

After installing the latest OSX update yesterday (something about iChat encryption), Apple Bluetooth Keyboard no longer works with my iMac.
When I restarted the iMac after installation was completed, the iMac would no longer recognise my Bluetooth Apple wireless keyboard. I've tried with 2 other Apple wireless keyboards as well, but to no avail. None of them work with the iMac any longer. All 3 keyboards work with my PowerMac Quad G5 though.
The iMac "sees" the keyboards, but the pairing doesn't go through because the iMac doesn't seem to recognise the keystrokes when entering the pairing code.
I had to go out and buy myself a Microsoft wired keyboard to be able to restart the iMac (couldn't enter the login password without a keyboard).
My bluetooth mighty mouse works flawlessly though.
    Very frustrating. Can anyone help?

  • Mac Pro very slow with NAS (network attached storage) after OSX Update

    *Hello,*
**I seem to have a rather unknown problem because after hours of google'ing I found nothing.**
**I'm working on a late 2008 Mac Pro with the 8 core Nehalem processor and 12 gigs of ram and some other hardware like a Blackmagic Decklink HD extreme.**
**(If you care to know the exact specs I can gives those to you, but right now I'm degrading the Mac Pro to 10.6.0.)**
**The Mac Pro connects via an ethernet cable > ethernet breakout > directly to an Mac Pro G5 PPC on a CAT5.E ethernet cable.**
**This G5 is running leopard and has our hard drives and RAID connected to it of which we work on our Mac Pro 2008. Normally this gives us the ability to read with over 100 mb/s and write at about 70 mb/s (Blackmagic diskspeed test).**
**But recently our drives got really, really slow. It wouldn't even play PAL footage realtime in our Final Cut timeline.**
**But as we downgrade to 10.6.0 this problem is gone. So we think that when we upgrade to 10.6.5, the problem initiates.**
**How does this happen and, more importantly, how do we get rid of this?!**
**Good to know; our 27" iMac or any other device in this building _does not have_ this problem. It's just the Mac Pro after an update.**
    **Please help us out.**
    **Kind regards,**
    *W.*

I have the same problem with any mac that has 10.6.  On macs that I can go back to 10.5 on they work fine and fast.  I install a used system at a client and that CPU is new enough to not be able to revert to 10.5 and their NAS is so slow that it is unless. So it's Apple's problem, they broke the protocol for NAS in 10.6 and will not fix it.  My clients don't want to make the Move to 10.7 at this time,I am not eve sure if NAS will work well with 10.7 and I think Apple has to rethink its policy of forces us to upgrade to the lastest OS to get their problems fixed.  Fix 10.6 to NAS protocol.
Maybe we don't need major system upgrades every year..  Fix the current system before you give us more problems with a major OS upgrade.
Now I might sound tainted, but I have been an Apple person since the first, Apple II came to market.. I sold many of them.  So lets not go back to Apple 1980's when they couldn't get anything right..  They may be all powerful, now but they need to remember when there were rumors of them being sold and the stock sold for $11.00 a share.
I have searched for a fix, and many forums have stated the problem, but I just can't figure why they haven't relized that Apple mess up the protocol in 10.6.  Its simple, everything works fine on 10.5 they forced us to upgrade to 10.6 and it's broke.  go back to 10.5 and it's fixed.  So logic states that Apple's 10.6 is different when it comes to NAS protocols...  Simple...  Fix go back to 10.5  Real fix..   Apple needs to fix it with a patch to 10.6
I have no problems with someone proving me wrong that it works fine, in 10.5 and is broken, very slow in 10.6..

  • Scrolling on Magic mouse no longer work after OSX update

I have just performed an OSX update and after restarting I immediately noticed that the scrolling function and other gestures no longer work on the magic mouse. I have also noticed that no gestures work on the Mac Book Pro track pad. The only function that works on the mouse is moving the mouse pointer and the buttons. Same goes for the track pad. Some great update that was. Has anyone else discovered this and how do I repair this loss of function? When I first initiated the update, I saw that there was a download required which mention some improvements for the mouse/keyboard but mainly updates required to support the new magic track pad. Is it possible to revert this individual update and if so how? Thanks.

You were almost correct, but not quite. You can see updates in /Library/Updates. I'm not sure what receipts is, but it didn't contain the track pad/mouse update package I was expecting to see. However, I did eventually find it in Updates after a trip to my local Apple store. What happened was that the original update process completed about 95% but for some reason crashed. When I restarted, it appeared that there was nothing wrong, until that is I tried to use the mouse and track pad. I presume that the update process uninstalled the previous package but didn't actually install the new update. I downloaded the the latest update from Apple, but it appeared to be older than what I downloaded from the Update process, so it wouldn't install. I would suggest that here lies a bug. The package install process did detect the new trackpad / mouse package but it didn't detect that it wasn't installed and should have prompted me to install it.

  • Airport not working after osx update-keychain?

Airport has updated. Do you want to allow the new version to access the same keychain items (such as passwords) as the previous version?
This chain is permanent and affects all keychain items used by aiport.

What should I have replied? Anyway to reset the airport or download it again?

  • MBP 15" Fan Noise After OSX Update

    I have a mid 2012, 15" Retina MBP
Processor  2.6 GHz Intel Core i7
    Memory  8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
    Just updated to OSX 10.8.4
As soon as I restarted after the update, both fans started blowing hard.  The computer isn't warm to the touch at all and a review of activity monitor shows nothing sucking CPU cycles.
This must be happening to others.  Anyone heard of a fix?

Thank you so much for responding Mende!
    Here's an update:
I tried restarting the MBP a couple times before posting the issue here and that did not help.
Then after posting the issue, I thought that I should shut the machine down for few mins instead of just restarting.
When I powered it back up after the full shutdown and launched the same programs that were on when I first noticed the issue (chrome, firefox, itunes streaming a Radio station) everything was normal.
After about five minutes runnning, the fans have not fired up (or at least not so I can hear them spinning loudly as they had before.)
So I'll continue my day and if the fans start again I'll follow the SMC reset instructions you linked to (Thanks again).
Will follow up after I'm certain the issue is either resolved or ongoing.

  • Got problems with creating RTF-files after OSX update

    Hi
I don't know if this is really a MAC OS problem, but it occurred after I updated to 10.5.2 - so it's a likely suspect.
Since the update I can't create RTF-files any more with Final Draft, my script writing program. A file is created, but when I try to open it I get an error message that it cannot be found. But the file is there: I can see it and click on it. It just won't open.
Only today now I got the same error message with a doc-file I downloaded some months ago.
The only big change I lately made to my Mac was the update to 10.5.2 and I got the new Office 2008 (both are the German versions). Could the problem come from either of them? I contacted Final Draft's support - they didn't know of the problem.
Maybe someone else in this forum has encountered similar problems?

Have you tried to Repair Permissions using Disk Utility?
    1. Open Disk Utility in your Applications/Utility folder.
    2. Click on the icon for your boot volume.
    3. Click on the First Aid tab and select Repair Permissions
    4. Click the repair permissions button.
This is the first thing to try whenever any program goes wonky. It's free, but takes awhile for all the files that have to be checked and changed.

  • USB Tethering stopped working after OSX Update to 10.6.4

I'm using the I-Phones tethering option on the swiss Swisscom network on daily bases.
So far no problem using it with the USB cable.
Since the latest OSX Update the availability of tethering by USB is very inconsistent.
    Bluetooth works perfectly.
Strangely the Network panel shows the USB connection as not functioning but all I-Phone Functions such as I-Tunes connection, picture connection to I-Photo works perfectly.
Deleting and reactivating the USB-I-Phone setting in the network panel didn't work neither resetting the network services on the I-Phone
Any ideas how to get this back to work?

  • Fan noise after OSX update - Mail above 100% CPU

    Hi,
I just updated to the latest 10.8.4 version and suddenly Apple Mail is running at 75% till over 100% CPU consumption making the fan running constantly. There is no active usage of Mail, no loading of heavy emails or anything. This problem with Mail never occurred before and it happened directly after the update so there might be a relation. The fan noise stops as soon as I quit Mail.
    What could be the reason?
    Thanks in advance,
    Eric

    Hey,
problem is solved: I deactivated and again activated my mail accounts by clicking the check boxes in Mail´s preferences menu. Immediately the CPU consumption fell to normal and so did the fan.
    Cheers,
    Eric

  • WD Drive Utility (on WD Thunderbolt Studio) doesn't work after OSX update (10.8.5 or itunes 11.1 - not sure), any help?

    Hi There,
I have just purchased WD Studio Thunderbolt and installed it on my Mac. The WD DRive Utility software worked fine until I have updated MAC OSX system (consolidated updates of 10.8.5, iTunes 11,1,0 and RAW didigtal cameras 4,09). After this Mac still can see the drive but the WD software cannot. Do you have any idea how to: 1) remove that update OR 2) install RAID using Disk Utility (wil this still work when WD launch update to WD Drive Utility?).
    Thanks in advance,
    Artur

  • Restarts every 3 MINUTES after Gingerbread update!

Subject pretty much says it all.. I installed the update this afternoon (and did NOT install anything else since) and now my phone is restarting itself every 3 minutes! I don't even think that's enough time to get in and back up my apps and texts, so I would really rather not do a factory reset!
Even as I'm writing this, it's now restarting every 30-60 seconds, in safe mode... Please HELP!!!

Since no one else cared to help, I figured out my own solution.. Everything I read online said I probably had an app that didn't agree with the update and the easiest fix would be to factory reset it. Not what I wanted to hear, but whatever! So I backed up my apps using Astro File Manager and backed up my texts using Go SMS Pro (both free apps).. Took a few restarts to get that done!
To factory-reset, you hold the volume button and power button at the same time.. Then when the Samsung logo shows up, let go of the power button only.. You should then get a black screen with some colored text and one of your choices is "wipe data/factory reset". Use your volume button to go down to that option and then press your Home key. Press Home again to go through with the reset... THIS WILL WIPE EVERYTHING FROM YOUR PHONE! Which is why you should back everything up first. There are easy-to-follow visual instructions on how to reset your phone here.. http://community.vzw.com/t5/Samsung-Fascinate/Gingerbread-update-bricked-my-phone-also/td-p/742556
Once reset, you will have a lot of reconfiguring to do but if you install Astro File Manager again you can fairly easily re-install your apps. I just installed the apps I use most, to see if any of those screwed with Gingerbread. So far, so good! Guess I will slowly re-install the rest over the next few days and hope nothing goes haywire again!

  • Problems after OSX Update Hung.

I am running a MacBook Pro with OSX 10.8.5.  I ran the current software update which hung with about a minute left.  In order to proceed I had to force a power off and reboot..
On powering up again the account loaded ok but sees but fails to join my network, and finder does not open any windows - all the desktop icons flicker as if it is restarting itself.
On the other account (also with admin rights) Finder works fine but the wifi will not join the network.
I have deleted it from the list in the networks diagnostics "Advanced" feature and deleted the network, then added it again.  All I get is an immediate error message saying a network timeout has occurred.
Using the network diagnostics it asks me for the password but then tells me it is incorrect (It is not!)
    Any suggestions greatfully received!

  • Graphics stuck after OSX update Mac mini 2011

I've just done the 10.9.2 update to my Mac mini (mid-2011) and now the graphics are streched.
The screen resolution is currently stuck to 1280x1024 rather than the 1920x1080 I had before the update. Anyone got any ideas?

The common issue here is 10.9.2 and HDMI connected monitors, it seems.
Safe boot, PRAM reset, SMC reset, none got me to the login screen.
Command-s gets me a useless root shell, so its just loginwindow thats broken.
On my mini, I was able to regain some functionality by disconnecting the HDMI video and using Screen Sharing to get in.
Howwever, I don't have HDMI working yet to my Apple 17" LCD through a ADC to DVI through a DVI to HDMI adapter. Havent tried much else yet. This setup had worked fine since 2011!
