Constant buffering

Hey everyone,
My boyfriend bought me an AppleTV for Christmas. I didn't know what it was at first even though I am an avid MacBook and iPhone user. Anyway after getting my head around it all, we rented a movie from the Apple TV on Thursday evening - and to my serious frustration all it was doing every 10-15 minutes was a loooong stage of buffering, re-starting, buffering again etc - so much so that I fell asleep before the end of the movie ha! Disappointing.
This afternoon wanted to give it another go - been messing around with my iTunes library trying to play some Music Videos from my library through my ATV - and even THAT buffers too! What gives?! Although I am a fair way away from my router (which I think may be the problem?) My MacBook and iPhone both have no struggle connecting and using the internet in my room where the said ATV is.
May be a stupid question also - can you rent on itunes and then stream to your ATV? Because the movies seem cheaper on there? And if this is possible surely I'm still going to have buffering issues seeing as the music videos struggle am I not?
Thanks x

It may well be distance, are you able to try the set up nearer to the router. It could also be interference, interference can be caused by other networks in the neighbourhood or from household electrical items.
You can download and install iStumbler (NetStumbler for windows users) to help you see which channels are used by neighbouring networks so that you can avoid them, but iStumbler will not see household items.
Refer to your router manual for instructions on changing your wifi channel or adjusting your multicast rate.
There are other types of problems that can affect networks, but this is by far the most common, hence worth mentioning first.
Yes you can rent from iTunes and stream from iTunes to the Apple TV, but if you are having trouble playing music videos, you will likely have the same problem with movies.
There is no difference in pricing between iTunes on the computer and the Apple TV, what you are likely seeing is the difference between HD and SD, your Apple TV only sees one quality at once and by default that is HD, you can set it to SD ata settings > general > iTunes Store.

No magical keystroke remedy. The causes for this can be complicated.

  • Constant buffering on Youtube..Tried everything. Please help.

I am having issues with constant buffering of videos on Youtube. It would start playing then would pause and buffer then play again. Its happening to all videos on youtube. Very frustrating. I am running Windows 7/64 bit with Ati hd 3200 integrated video card with catalsyt 10.7 and have Avira antivirus (latest) with windows firewall. I have issues with both Google Chrome 5 and IE8 browser. For about a month now. Here are things I have tried so far:
    1) upgraded Ati catalyst driver from 10.5 to 10.7. Both versions give the same results.
    2) Upgraded java to latest release
    3) Installed latest shockwave player
    4) Installed, uninstalled and reinstalled latest Flash Player 10.1 for both IE8 and Chrome. (used Flash uninstaller and installer)
    5) checked isp speed . Fast at 9mb/sec download and 1mb/sec  upload.
    6) Cleared out cache in Chrome .
    7) Acceleration on and off in Flash player.
I have tried a lot of things but problem still persists. Please advise.

Just be sure after you Uninstall the FP 10.1 to Reboot. And also Reboot after you Install the previous FP vs 10.0.45.2.

  • BB Torch- Email server connection lost since unlocking phone and constant buffering

Since unlocking my BB 9800 I can not received emails (cannot connect to the server).  I have WiFi and  can connect to the internet but not the server for emails.  Prior to unlocking I had no issues.  Also, is there a cure for the constant buffering?  This is the second handset with the same issue.   My provider is Vodafone and I am in medium term based in the US so having emails on my mobile (via Wifi) as my roaming is off is essential. Please help as Vodafone could not.

Vodafone have said it was a firmware or hardware issue... so Im i the piggy in the middle without emails as my roaming is switched off. Again, the only change was entering the code given to me from Vodafone and no more server connection.  can you get a second opinion please!

  • Constant buffering after 7.0.1 update?

My AppleTV 3 has a gigabit wired connection to my Airport Extreme, along with my Mac Pro running Mavericks 10.9.5 and the new iTunes 12. Trying to stream movies from my ATV now causes buffering 15-60 seconds from the start of the movie and will not begin playing again. It will just buffer forever. Wireless is the same. Restarts fix nothing. Turning off/on Home Sharing fixes nothing. Apps work fine, just local streaming. Any ideas of what can kick-start this thing into working again?
Disappointed, yet not surprised, that once again an AppleTV update breaks something. The worst development quality control in Apple's entire product lineup.

error message "some of the items in the iTunes library including "..." were not copied to the ipod "..." because you are not authorized to play them on this computer" total=93
In 2 years I've had this computer and iPod this has never happened... what's going on? Why is it selectively telling me songs I own I'm not authorized to play? The only changes I've made lately is backing up my music to DVD-Rs using 'Back up to disc...".
also, i noticed that it's asking me to use an email address to authorize it if I try to listen to these songs that is my personal address that is not a .mac or aol address, but not my .mac address, but if I enter a password or try to retrieve the password, it says the account doesn't exist. On my PC laptop, this email address is used as the account, however, this is happening on my MAC. Are the files confused thinking they are still on the PC? How do I stop that from happening?

  • TS3274 What can I do about the constant buffering during videos?

Suddenly all of my videos are buffering or freezing. My iTunes purchased and rental movies included. What can I do to resolve this. I need this action for work. This is terrible! Thanks for any advice. I will try anything at this point.

Diavonex is not an Apple employee - none of us that post here are employed by Apple so we can't "just fix" this issue for you - or for anybody else that is having this problem. Diavonex offered a suggestion - that's all.
Have you tried any of the basic stuff, resetting the iPad, closing all apps in the task bar and restarting, clearing Safari if you are having the problem viewing video content on the web ....?
I have a very fast Internet connection speed and this happens to me once in a while, it even happens on my new MacBook. It certainly should not happen all of the time, but it does happen. I know that the further I am away from my WiFi router, the worse the issue can be. If I try to stream a video from HBO GO for example and I am sitting out on my back deck, the video may begin to buffer on me.
So why don't you just offer the help to Gia and Brian, instead of posting that it is a widespread problem? What have you done to try to fix the issue?
    @Gia and Brian.....
I wish that I had a better answer for you, but I don't. Have you tried rebooting your router and/or cable modem? Every once in a while that simple little fix can work wonders.

  • Can firefox stop constant buffering of all video and film content?

Hi, I have spent most hours of all my days since having an apple mac (2-3 weeks) to try and fathom why it does some things that my previous cheaper laptops didn't even do and to solve them. The most persistently annoying thing is when I try to watch a movie on line or youtube it buffers every 2-3 seconds, making it impossible to watch. I have tried so many things and the problem persists whatever. Firefox was the last thing I downloaded to try and stop this and this doesn't even work in doing so. I am at my wits end and worn out. I can't understand why there is never ever an answer to all the questions posted in blogs, particularly apple, good if you just want to see the problems people have and no solution. Loads of people have had this problem, but I can't find even one answer to this problem that works. I don't know how to use quick time and whether that can assist

There are lots of reasons you could be having this problem. To try to narrow it down, I'd start with a known good site like youtube and try playing the same video in both Firefox and Safari. If the problem happens both in Firefox and Safari, I'd say there is a problem with your network connection. In that case, you might try resetting your connection (powering off your cable modem and then starting it again).
If the problem only happens in Firefox, try the solutions in [[Video or audio does not play]] (especially the ones farther down the page).

  • TS3623 Apple TV 5.1.2 update, WiFi issues?  Keeps dropping wifi, constant buffering?

Apple TV 5.1.2 update constantly drops wifi connection, buffers and hangs?  Very Annoying!

I am not sure that this will help you but i let you know how i solve it:
Problem: iPhone 4 doesn't detect wi-fi networks after installed iOS 5.1
My iPhone stopped finding any network once i update it with iOS 5.1, so after read so many posts
around the web about it, and as i really need a wi-fi connection on a daily basis i did the following:
    First step:
    Reboot
    Reset Network Settings
Turn Airplane mode On and Off
None of this steps worked for me
    Second Step
Restore iPhone to factory settings, not from backup.
The iPhone detected wifi networks, but once i connected to one of them, after 1 minute
or two, he lost the connection and stop seeing any wi-fi networks again.
    Third step
New restore from factory settings, not from backup.
The iPhone detected again the wifi networks, but this time instead of choosing from the list
of wifi networks, i choose to click on "other.." and insert the name of the wifi network and password
    manually.
I went to turn off bluetooth as well, since i heard on the web that the bluetooth connection ON, will mess with the wifi on iOS 5.1.
No any problems until now, after 3 days of this procedure.
Probably there is a problem when the iPhone connects to the first wifi network we choose, and the drops everything. But once i make it like i mention on the third step, no more problems.

  • Unable to view You Tube Videos - Constant Buffering

Unable to watch ANY videos on Samsung Galaxy S4 - 4G LTE. The phone is constantly Buffering after 5 or 10 seconds. Have rebooted. Removed battery. Closed (and uninstalled) apps. Anyone else have this issue?
    PLEASE HELP...

I am seeing the same issue with YouTube video streaming on my Note 3 over 4G data network. I reduced the video quality to 360p and still see buffering happening every 5 seconds. I already tried Force Stop, Clear Data/Cache and reboot device. But that did not help.
When I switch to Wifi network, the same video plays just fine even at 1080p quality.
Please fix the issue with your network.
EDIT: This issue has been happening for last couple of months or so. It used to work just fine on 4G network even with 1080p earlier.

  • Constant buffering on website with vista laptop

I have 5 computers on a network. All work seamlessly but for
my laptop. I'm thinking its flash player 9 that's causing the
problem. Uninstalled and reinstalled player more than once and
problem still occurs. very frustrating. Help appreciated.

Apparently the proper procedure for upgrading to the Adobe
Flash Player 9 is to first completely uninstall the current player
and do a fresh install of the new player, otherwise there could be
    problems.
Also, you cannot really uninstall using the control panel
because all of the files may not be deleted unless you are
knowledgable enough to know that all programs which may be running
flash player must all be completely shut down.
I'm not sure why Adobe doesn't tell people this. I discovered
it by accident myself. Here is the info I found at another source -
the links provided, interestingly, are all from ADOBE!
Apparently, it is not enough to apply a straight upgrade to
Flash. You actually have to uninstall Flash in it's entirety, and
then do a fresh Flash install. There's a specific program for this
which can be downloaded from Adobe (the makers of Flash) at:
    Windows Uninstall File:
    http://download.macromedia.com/pub/flashplayer/current/uninstall_flash_player.exe
    Mac OS X Uninstall File:
    http://download.macromedia.com/pub/flashplayer/installers/8/uninstall_flash_player_osx.dmg

  • Why is iPlayer buffering on my Sony TV but not on ...

iPlayer is almost unusable from between 6pm-11pm when using our Sony Bravia TV (due to constant buffering interruptions), other services like YouTube and LoveFilm seem fine on the TV. iPlayer on a laptop (same connection) during that time works just fine.
Is TV traffic routed differently to laptop traffic? Any clues on how I can sort this out, it's very irritating.
We're using BT Infinity 2 (76MB down/20MB up), it's a wired 100MB ethernet connection to TV. A speed test using (speedtest.net) at the same time as problems occur is showing 46down/9up.
(Obviously, Sony have said it's an ISP issue).
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

See if there is a quality setting for the iPlayer on the TV, and use a lower quality setting. The version that runs on a PC automatically adjusts the quality, to match the available bandwidth. The TV is unlikely to have that automatic facility.
Just because you are getting 46mb download, it does not mean that the BBC servers can deliver that speed, especially during peak time. I would imagine that even 3Mb would be pushing it during those times.
If the TV quiality is set too high, then its going to keep buffering, wheras the PC will simply lower the quality to match the speed.

  • Buffering pauses and audio/video out of sync, single RTMP stream w/ simple embed

    Hello,
I am running Flash Media Server on my dedicated CentOS host, and finally connected a single RTMP stream fine and am able to embed and play back the stream, but I am getting constant buffering pauses (approx every 5 secs) and audio/video out of sync by at least 5 seconds. My CPU with Flash Live Encoder is a powerhorse, never over 25% processor or ram usage while streaming, and my upload internet speed is averaging 6-8 mbps which should be more than adequate. I fear the issue is server side, however port 1935 is open and in use, not firewalled on CPU nor the host.
    Any suggestions would be great.

    Hello,
Thanks for the reply, I am using embed code generated with Flash Media Playback, as follows:

  • Exsessive buffering when watching internet video?

I am a pc user switching to mac...
I want to watch videos over the web, but have found that difficult. The main problem is constant buffering. It will play 2 seconds of video and then buffer, making it unwatchable. This is both connect via Ethernet or wireless, using a high speed cable modem.
    1) Any ideas what to do?
    2) How does switching video cards affect this issue? I cannot see any difference in resolution between the two for videos, but I think I should.
    3) How can you tell if your internet connection is wireless or over Ethernet? I realize you could turn wireless off or unplug, but I figure there is an easier way.
    4) I assume different webs use different video formats. Does this affect the issue of buffering?
    Thanks

Out of curiosity, what is the speed of your Internet connection?
For example, I had problems with buffering on a variety of operating systems when I had a 640K DSL link that have largely gone away with a move to a 8M cable modem connection.

  • Constant biffering

I am so upset, I want to cry!
We got this broadband about 6 months ago and it was ok for 3-4 months, after that there is constant buffering. We subscribed to lovefilm but were not able to watch anything, as we can't watch Youtube links, etc. I followed advice in BT website and unplugged the phone but connection is not getting better. What is the point in paying over 30 a month if we don't have proper broadband or telephone (as extraconnection is supposed to interfere with broadband). I would like to get out of this contract but we fave a fixed contract. What is the best thing to do?

  • Radio buffering in iTunes

Help! my daughter has an out of town radio show which I listen to thru iTunes. I have a dial up conection (only option in my area). I can't stand to listen to it because of the constant buffering. Is it posible to save/record the program to listen to later without the buffering?
    TIA

Are they offering a 56K or smaller stream? If not, then there's not much that can be done to help the situation.
Have you tried changing the "Streaming Buffer Sizes" in iTunes Preferences -> Advanced tab? Try each setting and listen for a while to see which works best for you.
Since you're on dial-up, it's important to not cause any other Interent activity while you're trying to listen - no other surfing, close your e-mail client, and don't use the iTunes Store or let iTunes update Podcast subscriptions (if you have any).
Tools exist that let you record the current audio stream playing through the computer, but if it buffers during that you'll still have the same dropout problem.
