Constant charge?

Just wondering if the majority of iPad users prefer to leave their iPads on a constant charge, or do most simply charge up and go wireless on a daily or weekly basis? Since purchasing mine, I seem to be charging mine about every other day- however, I've only had it a week...

I keep my plugged in. There is no reason to use the battery if there is access to AC. When th iPad reaches a 100% the charging is turned off. I've been running the iPad (90% of the time) off of the power adapter for almost a year now with no ill effect to the battery. The battery still powers the iPad for 10+ hours.
Every month I try to drain the battery to 0%, from apples web:
Use Your iPad Regularly
For proper reporting of the battery’s state of charge, be sure to go through at least one charge cycle per month (charging the battery to 100% and then completely running it down). http://www.apple.com/batteries/ipad.html
It really doesn't matter at what percentage that you decide to charge the battery. The battery does not hold a charging memory like batteries in devices in the past.
You can charge the iPad the way you have been doing or charge it everyday. It's up to you...

  • Constant Charge and Battery

Hi there! I'm a recently converted PC user and I know that with most PC laptops, it's a good idea to remove your battery if you keep your laptop connected to it's AC adapter all the time. Would this apply as well to the G4 Powerbook (15 inch, 1.67GHZ)?
Another question that could possibly tie in with the battery as well; my Powerbook will get very hot after a few hours of use. Is this normal for this model or should I have it looked at by the Apple Store? I'm not terribly concerned as far as an electrical hazard is concerned, I'm more worried about if it'll overheat and possibly fry my hardware. Again, I'm a recently converted PC user and I know these things can happen with a PC (knowing this from personal experience) but I really don't know if it applies with Macs.
    Thank you!

In addition to Apple's guide to the use and maintenance of its Li-ion batteries, keep in mind that spontaneous oxidation (unavoidable) results in a gradual decrease of the battery's capacity. In addition to the issue of trickle charges eating away at the charge cycles, exposure to heat increases this rate of oxidation, which is why keeping your battery in your PowerBook isn't ideal for its longevity. When not in use for an extended period of time, it's best to store the battery in a cool place at 40-50% charge. Your battery is under the most stress at 0 and 100% of its charge capacity.
If you're a roadwarrior, I wouldn't bother with taking the battery out. However, if you're using your PowerBook primarily as a desktop replacement, I might consider it. For more information regarding batteries, their chemistry and their use, refer to BatteryUniversity.

  • How long should my Curve 8530 Smartphone hold a charge?/What's w/the tiny keyboard keys?

    Hi,
I love Bberries--ever since I got to use one at work; I don't recall that model but it was about 7 or so years ago.  I never had to charge it so much; and the keys were much larger.
    I am very disappointed.
Any input greatly appreciated.  I am paying myself this time (not a job), so maybe if I went for a more expensive model, it would have larger keys?
As to the constant charging, I don't know if that's an issue of you get what you pay for.  I do not want a keyboard that slides out.
    Thank you so much!

Welcome to the BlackBerry® Support Community Forums.
When charging the BlackBerry® smartphone are you using the charger that came with the BlackBerry® smartphone? Or a 3rd party USB wall charger or car charger charger? If you are using an official BlackBerry® smartphone charger, we would suggest contacting your point of sale for warranty and repair options.
    Thanks.

  • Condition for charging tenant at per hour basis

    Hi Experts,
I need to charge a fixed rental per hour from customer based on air-conditioner (AC) running.
For example Rs. 2000 per hr will be charged where Rs. 2000 is constant charge but AC run by Cutomer varies in one month it may be 160 hrs, in other month it may be 200 hrs, so on.
Therefore rent also varies i.e. first month Rs. 320,000 (2000160) and in second month Rs. 400,000 (2000200)
Please provide the solution for the same.
    Regards,
    Manish

    Hi Manish,
You can design your requirement in different ways, depends on the level of requirements.
One way could be sales based settlement, maintain sales based condition type and sales rule with your fixed price (Rs.2000).
And update sales reports for consumption (AC utilization) and run the settlement run.
Hope it will helps you, let me know if you need any more in detail.
    regards,
    Srini

  • Additional charges in contract billing

    Hi friends,
We have a scenario where a billing is done with reference to a value contract. So the target value is given in the contract and accordingly with sap standard when a billing is done the invoiced value is deducted from the target value.
Now during billing at times we have to charge some additional charges to the customer based on the requirement for ex: detention charges/mobilization charges etc. But this charge is also getting deducted from the contract vaule which in our case cant be finalized and added to contract value during creation of contracts as these charges are variables and not constant charges.
So please suggest that these charges should not get added to the contract value in turn reducing the contract value when billing is done.
    Thanks

  • Safe To Leave It Charging All Day?

When you're not using a MacBook, say, for a few days, is it safe to leave it plugged in and charging? Is it possible to harm the MacBook by overcharging it?

    hi there!
what happends when you charge the computer for a long time and its already at a near full charge, is that the computer and adapter go into a trickle charge mode. after the battery is charged to about 80%, the adapter doesn't do a full-blown charge, rather a slower, less power consuming charge. if the battery is full, it will still draw electricity to keep the battery at 100& constantly, not letting the battery charge ever drop below 100%.
also, if its worth mentioning, leaving the computer charged for days at a time can cause the battery to 'get used' to having a constant charge and eventually, it won't be able to hold a full charge because it won't know how!
    hope that helps!

  • Ipad charger breaking a lot

I tend to always have my Ipad on charge because what I do causes me to need constant charge, the cord isn't bent on a severe angle and I always pull it out by the connecter not the cord itself and it never changes location. I've spoken to apple online and done diagnostics on my ipad , they say the hardware is fine.
And I know for a fact I'm not doing anything wrong because I've been doing the exact same thing for 3-4 year with an ipad 1 and I only ever had 2 chargers for that.
So tell me, what should I do?

Lightning cable keeps on breaking - https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5016869?start=15&tstart=0
I have this cable durability problem on my iPad 4 too. The included cable only lasted one month, and I was able to get a free replacement from the Apple store under its one-year warranty.
This contrasted with my old 30-pin connector, with which I have had no issues with for about 5 years.

  • MacBook Pro never reaches full charge

Six month old MacBook Pro. I plug in the power adaptor and the laptop charges to 99%, but then no further. ADDITIONALLY, the light on the power adaptor never goes green, it stays orange. The CPU can't compute the amount of life remaining in the battery.
I assume this constant charging is ruining the battery and that i have a problem. Any solutions, or will this require new parts?

I had a similar problem happen with my Macbook.
My power adapter would blink orange and then green when it got to
99%,. The battery would only charge to 99%.
I went to the Apple store with my MB and the Genius first said the power supply was bad, then the power adapter was bad. However after she put my battery in another MB she determined that battery was defective, and replaced it with a new one. Thanks Apple.....
If I were you I would try resetting the PSU....(thats what Applecare will have you do anyway). Unplug the power adapter from the laptop, turn off the computer, and remove the battery. Open the lid and press and hold the power button for 5-6 seconds.....Re-assemble and restart. Good luck.

  • LG G2 charging going berserk

About two months ago my G2 suddenly decided the charger that came with it wasn't acceptable, and started doing the pop up vibrating charging notification over and over and over and over and over, to the point that the phone was useless while charging. I ended up resetting the phone to factory settings and it seemed to fix it for awhile, except now it's started doing it again, rejecting the charger I was using, switching to show charging, and constant charging notifications. Is there anything I can do aside from resetting it yet again, or am I destined to be resetting this phone every month or two for the rest of the time I have it?

MMines doing the same thing. So I got a new cord and it's still wigging out. but Im not sure if I will be coverEd a new replacement with the basic lost, stolen or damage insurance thing.
If you are under warranty then your phone is covered under a hardware failure unless they find it was damaged due to customer fault.  If all clear you would receive a refurbished replacement.  If they deem it to be your fault then it would fall under insurance deductible.

  • Charging with Monster Icar FM Transmitter

I am using a Monster iCar FM Transmitter. Even though I have read a few negative reports on the Monster FM transmitter/charger, it is working very well for me. Here's my question. Will the constant charging (1 to 2 hours a day while commuting) cause problems with the battery life. I recognize there is a finite life to re-chargeable batteries but I haven't read anything that suggests you should limit the use of in-car chargers.

As the iPod uses lithium-ion batteries, it is better to charge them frequently, rather than discharge them completely (unless you are conditioning the battery/meter). The car charger will be fine, but don't let the iPod get too hot in the car, or you will exceed its operational limits.

  • HP Pavilion zd7000 charging issues

I have a Pavilion zd7000 here at our shop and I replaced the dc jack as it was not charging the battery at all and wouldn't allow the computer to be turned on while the AC adapter was plugged in.  Once the DC jack wass replaced I was able to boot the laptop up no problem.  One thing I noticed when it was booted up, when you have the charger plugged into the laptop it will not constantly charge the battery, it flashes when it charges.  It's like it starts to charge then stops, starts, stops, and continues on and on.  When looking in the power configurations inside Windows, it still says that the AC Adapter is plugged in, but will not continuously charge the battery.
I applied a BIOS update and it seemed to work for awhile, but then it went back to doing the same thing of "flash charging".  One thing I have noticed is when the computer is off, it charges the laptop just fine and the lightning bolt in the front constantly stays on when plugged in, only when the laptop is on is when it has problems with the constant charge.
I'm wondering is it a mainboard issue, where there is something shorting it out, or is it a BIOS thing and we need to update it again or some other sort of update?  I'm totally lost on this issue  and any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks

  • IPhone 4s battery not holding a charge

I just set up an account with AT&T  and got a  iphone 4s this was Wednesday 22nd May 2013, It didnt hold its charge, I had it charging all that night at 530am Thursday morning battery was at 100%  by 8am that morning it was at 36% with light usage, ie, facebook, email, a couple of texts.  Went back to AT&T they exchanged the phone for me, the same thing is happening.  Should I take it back to AT&T or take it to Apple?  So frustrated, we are currently driving across country to our next Army duty station having a new phone that requires constant charging is not helpful.

    Hello there, Katronale2012.
Just to rule out usage, before you have to travel again, look over this document that talks about getting the most out of your iPhone's battery:
    Apple - Batteries - iPhone
    http://www.apple.com/batteries/iphone.html
    Specifically,
    Optimize Your Settings
Depending on how they are configured, a few features may decrease your iPhone battery life. For example, the frequency with which you retrieve email and the number of email accounts you auto-check can both affect battery life. The tips below apply to an iPhone running iOS 5.0 or later and may help extend your battery life.
Adjust brightness: Dimming the screen is another way to extend battery life. Go to Settings > Brightness & Wallpaper and drag the slider to the left to lower the default screen brightness. In addition, turning on Auto-Brightness allows the screen to adjust its brightness based on current lighting conditions. Go to Settings > Brightness & Wallpaper and set Auto-Brightness to On.
Turn off push mail: If you have a push mail account such as Yahoo! or Microsoft Exchange, turn off push when you don’t need it. Go to Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > Fetch New Data and set Push to Off. Messages sent to your push email accounts will now be received on your phone based on the global Fetch setting rather than as they arrive.
Fetch new data less frequently: Applications such as Mail can be set to fetch data wirelessly at specific intervals. The more frequently email or other data is fetched, the quicker your battery may drain. To fetch new data manually, from the Home screen choose Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > Fetch New Data and tap Manually. To increase the fetch interval, go to Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > Fetch New Data and tap Hourly. Note that this is a global setting and applies to all applications that do not support push services.
Turn off push notifications: Some applications from the App Store use the Apple Push Notification service to alert you of new data. Applications that extensively rely on push notifications (such as instant messaging applications) may impact battery life. To disable push notifications, go to Settings > Notifications and disable notifications for select applications. Note that this does not prevent new data from being received when the application is opened. Also, the Notifications setting will not be visible if you do not have any applications installed that support push notifications.
Minimize use of location services: Applications that actively use location services such as Maps may reduce battery life. To disable location services, go to Settings > Privacy > Location Services or use location services only when needed.
Use Airplane Mode in low- or no-coverage areas: Because your iPhone always tries to maintain a connection with the cellular network, it may use more power in low- or no-coverage areas. Turning on Airplane Mode can increase battery life in these situations; however, you will be unable to make or receive calls. To turn on Airplane Mode, go to Settings and set Airplane Mode to On.
Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.

  • I don't take my ipod anywhere anymore except for home use so can i just keep my ipod on a speaker dock that constantly charges?

I don't take my iPod classic anywhere anymore because I listen to music through my iPhone.  I still listen to my iPod at home though through my Sony speakers with a charging dock.
Can I just leave my iPod classic on that dock?  Will the constant charging destroy my iPod and its battery?  Thanks.

No, it will be fine. I have an iPod Photo from 2005 that I keep in my car and it is connected to the stereos dock connector 24/7. The only time I bring it in is maybe once every 6 months when I remember to load new music onto it. There were a few times when I briught it in and used my Classic in the car and left it out there as well, even in the freezing winter temps. never a problem. I also drive that car only once a week.
I did bring it in a few weeks back and spent a few days using it to test the battery. It still lasts as long as it did on battery power as it did when I bought it. The battry icon always shows as charged when connected so it mush have a circuit that prevents the battery from being damaged. My iPod Classic was the same.

  • I have iPad model number MC706B/A and battery gets very hot quickly and also discharges from 100% to 0 in under an hour with onyl one app going.  Brightness res turned right down also to stop over use on battery.

    Hi All,
I am getting increasingly frustrated at the battery grossly overheating ( as in cannot hold it on legs as gets too hot) also that I have to keep it on constant charge a other wise it discharges from 100% to zero in well under and hour.  Is this a battery or design fault of this particular model.  Its not even a year old but I also know whilst they brought it out in March 2012 they discontinued in October 2012...
Can anyone assist as Apple lcearly want nothing to do with a now defunct model and I am thinking that perhaps with the backing of the Trading Standards Authority and the Office of Fair Trading, Apple might just want to sit up and listen as up until now they have not.  They simply suggest that I should trade up!!!

Not normal. Take it to an Apple Store for evaluation.

  • IPhone battery is weird and phone won't turn on.

Hello, I'm having some problems with my new iphone (4s) and I need some assissstance. I recently received a new iphone via insurance (My old iphone broke) and it wont turn back on. I first noticed a problem started when I plugged it in to charge the battery life went down instead of up. I disregarded this because people said it needed to "calibrate itself" and to "let it die on it's own" so i let it die, I immediatly regret that descion. Now, with constant charging throughout the night it still shows no sign of life. I've tried everything i can think of like: Plugging into computer, plugging into wall, holding power button, holding HOME + POWER button, holding power +home + letting go of power button but still holding home button. I'm lost! what can I do? Should I have it taken in? Also, it's worth mentioning that itunes won't recognize it either, meaning it doesnt even think anything is plugged in.
    Thanks a mil,

    Hello Snorrris1234,
Thank you for the details of the issue you are experiencing with your iPhone.  I would be concerned too if my iPhone was not powering on.  You have taken some really good steps already, and I found an article with additional steps you can take when you encounter an issue like this.  I recommend following the steps below (you can skip the steps you have already taken):
Will not turn on, will not turn on unless connected to power, or unexpected power off
Verify that the Sleep/Wake button functions. If it does not function, inspect it for signs of damage. If the button is damaged or is not functioning when pressed, seek service.
Check if a Liquid Contact Indicator (LCI) is activated or there are signs of corrosion. Learn about LCIsand corrosion.
Connect the iPhone to the iPhone's USB power adapter and let it charge for at least ten minutes.
After at least 30 minutes, if:
The home screen appears: The iPhone should be working. Update to the latest version of iOS if necessary. Continue charging it until it is completely charged and you see this battery icon in the upper-right corner of the screen . Then unplug the phone from power. If it immediately turns off, seek service.
The low-battery image appears, even after the phone has charged for at least 20 minutes: See "iPhone displays the low-battery image and is unresponsive" symptom in this article.
Something other than the Home screen or Low Battery image appears, continue with this article for further troubleshooting steps.
If the iPhone did not turn on, reset it while connected to the iPhone USB power adapter.
If the display turns on, go to step 4.
If the display remains black, go to next step.
Connect the iPhone to a computer and open iTunes. If iTunes recognizes the iPhone and indicates that it is in recovery mode, attempt to restore the iPhone. If the iPhone doesn't appear in iTunes or if you have difficulties in restoring the iPhone, see this article for further assistance.
If restoring the iPhone resolved the issue, go to step 4. If restoring the iPhone did not solve the issue, seek service.
My issue is still not resolved. What do I do next?
    Contact Apple Support.
