Constant crash on launch (Unable to open InDesign)

I recently had an error in InDesign which forced it to crash. Now I can not open it anymore without it crashing during load-up.
I had one document open when I accidently closed the document with (cmd + w). Wanting to re-open it I got an error saying I did not have permission to open the document as it may be used by another application. I then proceded to try to quit ID which caused it to become unresponsive. Following this I force quit indesign.
Since then I have been unable to open InDesign at all. It always crashes during the loading screen.
I have tried uninstalling it (also removing preferences) and reinstalling (via Application Manager) to no success.
This is using InDesign CS6 (Creative Cloud) on OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion
Any help/ideas would be greatly appreciated.
Crash Report: https://gist.github.com/ddfae3a26db382e49475

You may actaully have two different problems going on at once here.
Because you crashed with a file open the .idlk (lock) file is probably still in the directory where the file is located, and that would prevent anyone from opening the .indd and would throw the error mesage you saw.
The second problem is that the crash may also have corrupted the data in the recovery folder so ID crashes again every time it starts up and tries to recover the file you had open. Locate and empty or rename your InDesign Recovery folder, then try to restart ID.

Unable to open indesign after migration to new mac all other programs open and work. Why? Running Yosemite 10.10.1 Indesign CS5

The keyword is "migration." Migrating or copying files for Adobe applications usually does not work. Not all of the necessary subsidiary files are copied to the right location.
You'll need to first clean up the mess with this tool:
Use the CC Cleaner Tool to solve installation problems | CC, CS3-CS6
Then download an installer from here:

• Unable to Open InDesign CC files with InDesign 6

I've upraged InDesign 6 to the 8,02 level and still unable to Open INDesign CC files (which were upgraded to CC8). Is there a solution? An upgrade to IND6?

This is only an option if you actually have access to CC. I ended up installing CC on my machine along with CS6 when we started receiving CC files from our customers.  Until I did that I had to call clients and ask them to resave their files to IDML and resend them.
As far as I know there is no way to upgrade CS6 to a point that you can open CC files with it.

• Unable to open InDesign documents after updating to InDesign 2014

Hi
Just recently updated to InDesign 2014 everything was working fine before the update but now I am unable to open some InDesign from a network location. It just shows a general error "Cannot open "xxxx.indd".
I have tried removing all InDesign app and reinstalled InDesign 2014 but same error appears.
Strange thing is if I do not tried to open the file and copy the file locally it will open but if you attempt to open the file from network location, get the error then I can not copy the file locally.
Abit lost with this one wish someone can shed some light.

Are you using SMB to connect? There are a number of reports of different types of problems with CC 2014 and the SMB protocol on Mac.

• Mail crashing - original alert: Unable to open SpamSieve

In Mail, this morning, I got an alert: Unable to open SpamSieve cause it couldn't find it in the Applications Folder (or something like that).
Since then, when I try to open Mail, it opens and then closes within about 5 seconds.
We have tried deleting all traces of SpamSieve, No Change
Started Mail while holding the Shift key, No Change
Restarted (of course), No Change
Repaired Permissions, Ran the Cocktail maintenance routines, rebuilt the directory using Disk Warrior all with no change.
Any other ideas??
Chris

This turned out not to be a Spam Sieve issue.
It was a corrupted LSMMap2 file.
~/Library/mail/LSMMap2
With Mail not open, I dragged the LSMMap2 file to my desktop and started Mail (which recreated this file). All works well now.

• Always crashing. Now unable to open it. Tried all the suggestions.

Firefox has been crashing all last year. A fresh reload of windows7 and firefox has not solved the problem. Different anti-virus programs have found no malware. Different "Pup virus" detectors have found nothing. I have tried every suggestion in troubleshooting, but still crashing. Now I cannot open firefox. I think that a clever infection has stalled the browser permanently. Will have to change to another browser, for reliability.

Sorry you are having problems, but hopefully they may be solvable.
If it is malware you have not yet successfully found and removed two things to bear in mind are that
# Some malware affects multiple browsers.
#Malware may continue to damage your computer, data or security.
So just switching browsers may not be much of a solution. My suggestions are as follows
#Try a clean reinstall of Firefox. That involves removing its program files (NOT the profile files).
# Then run scans again with multiple and fully up to date tools.
# If you then get crashes please report what the crash IDs are.
#Please explain how you get on by posting back to detail what you have tried and what the results were.
===Clean Reinstall===
Certain Firefox problems can be solved by performing a Clean reinstall. This means you remove Firefox program files and then reinstall Firefox. Please follow these steps:
Note: You might want to print these steps or view them in another browser.
#Download the latest Desktop version of Firefox from mozilla.org (or choose the download for your operating system and language from this page) and save the setup file to your computer.
#After the download finishes, close all Firefox windows (or open the Firefox menu and click the close button ).
#Delete the Firefox installation folder, which is located in one of these locations, by default:
#*Windows:
#**C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
#**C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox
#*Mac: Delete Firefox from the Applications folder.
#*Linux: If you installed Firefox with the distro-based package manager, you should use the same way to uninstall it - see Installing Firefox on Linux. If you downloaded and installed the binary package from the Firefox download page, simply remove the folder firefox in your home directory.
#Now, go ahead and reinstall Firefox:
##Double-click the downloaded installation file and go through the steps of the installation wizard.
##Once the wizard is finished, choose to directly open Firefox after clicking the Finish button.
More information about reinstalling Firefox can be found here.
<b>WARNING:</b> Do not use a third party uninstaller as part of this process. Doing so could permanently delete your Firefox profile data, including but not limited to, extensions, cache, cookies, bookmarks, personal settings and saved passwords. <u>These cannot be easily recovered unless they have been backed up to an external device!</u> See Back up and restore information in Firefox profiles.
Thanks
=== Crash IDs ===
We're sorry to hear that Firefox is crashing. In order to assist you better, please follow the steps below to provide us crash IDs to help us learn more about your crash.
#Enter about:crashes in the Firefox address bar and press Enter. A Submitted Crash Reports list will appear, similar to the one shown below.
#Copy the 5 most recent Report IDs that start with bp- and then go back to your forum question and paste those IDs into the "Post a Reply" box.
Note: If a recent Report ID does not start with bp- click on it to submit the report.
(Please don't take a screenshot of your crashes, just copy and paste the IDs. The below image is just an example of what your Firefox screen should look like.)

Hi, I wanted to run a automation script in c# to open downloads folder (C:\Users\test\Downloads) and run
vs_ultimate.exe file.
I am using
ApplicationUnderTest.Launch(@"C:\Users\test\Downloads");

• Missing Plugins.  Unable to open InDesign CS4 file, using CS3.

There are various updates InDesign CS3 available;
Adobe InDesign 5.0.2, 5.0.3, and 5.0.4.dmg etc, plus 'Digital Editions'.
Which one provides correct plugins to allow opening of a CS4 originated file in CS3?
Alternatively, is there a link which provides a utility which will automatically detect which
plugins you require to update from CS3>CS4?
Thanks very much.

My script in this thread: http://forums.adobe.com/message/4071273 will identify with what version of ID a file is created, which may be helpful at times. (Aside, you may be the first to try it with CS3 -- so it might not work.)
Nothing to be ashamed of on your side, really. That infernally misleading "upgrade your plugins" 'error' dialog has been confusing first-time users from the very first time some lazy programmer at Adobe opted for a quick shortcut in programming and be at home before rush hour.

• Firefox will not launch, unable to open profile manager.

When I try to open Firefox, my (taskbar?) shows that firefox is trying to open, but then it disappears, does not open, and no error message is visible. I am unable to access the profile manager via terminal as directed on the troubleshooting guides.

I don't think you did anything wrong.   You have the same symptoms that a number of us have seen.  Looks like a bug.  I am guessing that the beta testers for Lion Server were mostly power users that didn't make many changes through the new server.app.  Those of us that are rookies that are trying to setup home servers for iTunes, software updates, etc. are running into problems with the set-up.  No solutions that I am aware of have been found yet.

• Indesign 5.5 crashes when launched

I just installed Creative Suite 5.5 and when I launch InDesign 5.5 it crashes. Photoshop and Illustrator will launch. I opened InDesign in a different user account and it opened but it won't open in my original account. I have deleted pref and disabled fonts. I have upgraded Suitcase Fusion 3 to the latest version. I run Mac OS X 10.6.8.

If InDesign opens with another account it's not an Apple problem but obviously something inside your user profile.
Have you already followed the steps described in "Restore all preferences and default settings"

• I am unable to open my Aperture library after my computer crash!!

I get the following error meassage after my computer crashed and now unable to open Aperture library. Do not have any of my photos backed up as yet!!!
"There was an error opening the database for the library “/Volumes/My Passport for Mac/Aperture Library.aplibrary”.

The Crash may have prevented Aperture from closing the Library properly.
Make a backup copy of your Aperture library, before you proceed.
Then try to repair the library using the "Library First Aid Tools":
Aperture 3 User Manual: Repairing and Rebuilding Your Aperture Library
Locate the Aperture library on your My Passport drive, then hold down the Command and Option keys while double-clicking the Aperture library.
Select Repair Database from the First Aid panel.
If that does not help, repeat, but select "Rebuild database".
If you still have prolems, post back and explain, what happened before Aperture crashed.

• Unable to open downloaded applications - Indesign & Illustrator

Hi - I purchased a one year subscription for Indesign and Illustrator yesterday.   However, the entire suite downloaded after quite a few hours.  I am unable to open InDesign & Illustrator.   I keep getting an Adobe comment box saying something like - to renew your subscription with a link or the message try again in 15 minutes.   I had downloaded the updated Download Assistant.   This is very frustrating as I need to work on some files I had created previously when I took out a subscription a few months ago which expired due to an accounting issue.
I would appreciate your assistance

• Why can't I open InDesign Docs in Bridge since Installing Snow Leopard?

I have CS3 Indesign. I have recently installed Snow Leopard. Since doing that I am unable to open Indesign files within Bridge. I get a very strange message that says 'missing required parameter 'from' for event open. What does that mean and can I fix it. If I drag my document to my desktop, most of the time it opens but sometimes it does not. I have to go up to the file menu and open from there. Is it a Bridge problem or is it an InDesign problem. Very annoying! Does anyone know if there is a fix for this?
Also since installing Snow Leopard, I am unable to open multiple files in Photoshop. Once again I am doing this from Bridge.
Any information would be most appreciated.

Does this older thread http://forums.adobe.com/thread/486185?tstart=90 solve your problem? Apparently, some characters are not (anymore!) allowed in file names.

• Indesign crashes when launching/opening program

I'm using an older G5 power mac running OS 10.4.11.
I'm also using Linotype Fontexplorer 123 Build 833.
My problem is when opening Indesign and Illustrator cs3 or cs2 all four crash (close) immediately.
Acrobat cs3 and cs2 opens but shortly crashes (closes).
Photoshop cs2 crashes immediately but curiously cs3 not only opens but works!
Problem started yesterday and from what I understand no program had been updated. Today I updated programs and problem still exists.
I've tried everything I know including zapping the pram (option, command, p, r) and problem still exists. I have also tried deleting the Indesign cs2 and cs 3's preference files with no success.
Adobe support gave me some tips but they have not worked for the main account, which includes some of the suggestion in KB400690. Kinda bummed out support could not help (case# 180335439) normally there suggestions do work. They did suggest to create a new user account and Indesign CS3 did startup, I have not try to see if it works--really want to get main account fixed.
What else... well when I think of them I'll post them.
O yea, how does one optimize the hard drive? Do I have to buy an utility to do so?--bummer.
Thank you,
Frustrated!
JaimeZ

Well, I had my mac tech come today to figure out the problem. After about an hour doing the same procedures I did yesterday in six, he figured out it was a font problem. When we deactivated all the fonts with Fontexplorer all Adobe products opened with no problem.
Do not know whether font problem is a corrupt font or font ID conflicts.
