Constant crashing with Flash CC in Windows 8.1

Hello I am an avid Flash user who has worked in the program for roughly 10 years since before it was bought by Adobe and called Macromedia MX5. This most recent version of Flash CC is incredibly buggy with respect to the following areas..
I am constantly suffering crashes in Flash on my windows 8.1 desktop computer. The tower I have is more than capable to handle Flash CC so I don't understand why it is crashing. This isn't happening with even heavier hitting software such as After Effects only Flash CC.
I especially notice crashes and stalling when saving as well as when scrubbing or playing in the timeline or trying to clear key frames or adjust keyframes in any manner.
Additionally I have noticed more substantial problems and flaws with Flash CC in comparison to previous versions. This is evident most in the audio options. I think a lot of the problems that stem from audio playback and lagging playback time is the fact that audio is defaulting to a repeat function of 1x when it should default to no repeat function. Sometimes changing repeat to 0 resolves this issue but even still audio always seems to start from beginning of the clip/sound file as opposed to playhead despite having stream selected. This was never a probelm in previous versions of Flash for me, EVER. I don't understand how this has become a problem now all of a sudden when this version of Flash is supposed to be running 64bit as opposed to 32bit.
I also noticed that the audio on some files has ceased to work when I revisit the file later on. It will not play no matter what in the stage/timeline but is audible when I do a test movie or export movie.
Is anyone else having similar issues here? I didn't seem to have so many problems when I was using Flash CS6, this audio thing is probably my biggest beef though I can't say I'm too fond of the crashing either.

first try resetting your preferences by holding down shift-ctrl-alt while starting flash pro.  you'll see a confirmation dialog if done correctly.
if that fails, uninstall and then reinstall flash pro.
if that fails, uninstall, clean and then reinstall flash pro following these steps exactly, http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/cs5-cleaner-tool-installation-problems.html

This report also contains technical information about the state of the application when it crashed.

If you open a new tab in Firefox to the '''about:crashes''' page you may be able to click through to your crash data on the Mozilla's crash stats server. These page have a link you can post here for volunteers to take a look. Check the date/time on the crash, though, to make sure it is for the relevant time period.

  • Publishing air apps with native extension with Flash CS6 on Windows

    Hi all,
is there any trick to publish air apps with Flash CS6 on Windows?
I tried all native extensions from devnet, but nothing work to me.
I read on Mac is possibility to specify the iOS SDK folder in publish
settings, but on Windows it´s missing.
Is there anybody who has some experiences with publishing apps
with native extensions for iOS and Android with windows Flash CS6?
    Thanks for all advices.

I sympathize. I recently found a native alert for iOS and Android that's working with Flash CS6 on Windows with AIR 3.2.0.2070 but not AIR 3.2.0.2060. You can get the ANE here:
    http://www.jampot.ie/ane/
Haven't tried the other ones. Let us know if you decide to try them.
The sample code they have on the page doesn't work with the native alert. Here's the code I created - it's a document class for a .fla that has one dynamic TextField and one Button component on the stage :

  • Constant crashing with FF13 and newest Flash. Tried reinstall of previous version; nothing but trouble

A few weeks ago, everything worked very nicely on my desktop computer. Then I succumbed to the nagging and "upgraded" to FF13, as well as the new Flash and Real players. Immediately, FF started crashing. First, it would instantly crash with any tab that had Flash embedded.
OK, I disabled and then finally uninstalled Flash and Real, but that didn't solve the problem; it would still crash 3 or 4 times a day, and with as few as 30 tabs open (the previous version could easily run 100+ tabs). Apart from those 3 "updates", the only other thing I had done was to update my existing plug-ins and add-ons, but I even tried disabling all of my plug-ins and add-ons; FF still kept crashing!
Today, I got fed up and uninstalled FF13 (after using MozBackup), and d/loaded and installed the previous version of FF. Did that solve the problem? Nope. Now, I can't get Tab Mix Plus to work, nor can I find my hundreds of old saved Sessions with Session Manager.
I tried uninstalling Tab Mix Plus and then reinstalling it, but I just get an error message saying it couldn't be installed. In fact, this is the THIRD time I've had to type this post, since the first time, I mistakenly tried to open a new tab to search Tab Mix Plus in Google, but the f{ck1ng tab opened Google right over this page, wiping out my almost finished post, and the second time, I went to Tools-->Options-->Manage Add-Ons-->Tab Mix Plus-->Options, and it froze up FF, requiring restarting it! Indeed, it seems as if the entire Manage Add-Ons menu is now buggy and generally freezes up.
I am *this*far*away* from ditching FF entirely (after 7 years of being loyal to it) and trying Chrome. It really is infuriating how difficult it is to get this straightened out! Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Have you tried creating a new Firefox profile and testing whether that will run without crashes? This is a non-destructive test that creates a new settings folder. It picks up plugins from the registry, but otherwise looks like a fresh install.
If you haven't used the Profile Manager before, this article describes how to start up into it and create a new profile: [[Use the Profile Manager to create and remove Firefox profiles]].
You can import your bookmarks by restoring a backup from your previous profile folder. For convenience of access, make a copy of your last bookmarks backup on the desktop. You can find that folder using Help > Troubleshooting Information > Show Folder; navigate up one level to view your last active profile, then into the bookmarkbackups folder. Copy the latest .json file to the desktop. Then in the dialog pictured in the article "[[Back up your bookmarks or move them to another computer]]", use Restore > Choose File to import that file into your new profile.
Can you get through a day without crashing?

  • Firefox 17, & 18 crash with Flash 10 or 11 with WIn8

I have a brand new computer (Samsung) - and I installed Firefox 17. and the newest flash - It worked fine for a few days.. Then randomly flash would crash and firefox and take it out basically.. I would need to uninstall flash, and Firefox. I have tried versions 17, 18 and auroa(sp?) betas.. with flash 10 and 11 versions.
Only thing not factory on the PC is iTunes, Firefox and Kaspersky AntiVirus.
I have tried to uncheck the hardware acceleration, in FF and flash..

I'm having this same problem on an up to date Windows 7 machine. It is not just a Win8 issue. Adobe Flash and Firefox have been fighting with each other and causing browser lockups ever since I switched to Firefox 17.0. I managed to get things sorted out but then when upgrading to Firefox 17.0.1 it came back with a vengeance.
IE works just fine. Downgrading to previous major rev of flash didn't fix it with 17.0.1. Then downgraded to latest Firefox 16 and things work just fine. Don't have realplayer installed. My graphics card doesn't support turning off DirectX HW accel. Otherwise have been through all the steps...

  • How to report a crash with Flash Player

In this thread, I'll be describing the different processes for reporting crashes in Flash Player.  We're committed to finding and fixing these bugs and we appreciate any help you can give us!
In general, when reporting a crash, please create a new bug over at bugbase.adobe.com and a new thread so that your issues won't be lost in threads that can sometimes span many pages.  When creating the bug, please include the following information:
    1. A brief explanation of what you were doing when the crash occurred.  Screenshots and or video of the steps required are always welcome!  Cell phone captures work great.  Many times we can pick up on small subtleties with a simple picture.
    2. An exact URL where the crash occurred.  Even though a crash might appear to happen in many places (like all videos on youtube for example), it still helps us to have an exact URL so that there are no ambiguities in our testing.
    3. A crash log!  See the posts below for details on creating crash logs for your particular browser.
    4. Your current version of Flash Player
    5. In some cases, computer hardware and drivers can contribute to a crash.  Getting your system details is always helpful.  Here are some simple steps to gather system details for Windows, Mac, and Linux.
    Thanks!
    Chris

Internet Explorer for Vista and Windows 7
    1. Download the files "Enable Crash Logging.reg" and "Disable Crash Logging.reg" attached to the bottom of this post.
    2. Double click the "Enable Crash Logging.reg" file.  Click Yes to the Registry Editor dialog.
    3. Restart your system
    4. Open Internet Explorer and try to navigate to a page with working Flash content (for example, go to our About Flash page)
    5. Reproduce the crash
    6. Once Internet Explorer has crashed, open an Explorer window and type the following into the navigation bar: %localappdata%
    7. Navigate into the CrashDump folder
    8. Select a recent iexplorer.exe.<somenumber>.dmp file and copy it to your desktop
    9. Now that we have a crash log, we'll disable crash logging by double clicking the "Disable Crash Logging.reg" file downloaded in step 1 and selecting OK.  Note this step is optional.  You are free to leave crash logging enabled.  With it enabled, Windows will save your last 10 crashes for future reference.
    10. Restart your system
    11. Include the crash log you saved to your desktop in your bug report
    Internet Explorer for Windows XP
    1. Display hidden files and folders in Explorer using this Microsoft document
    2. Open Internet Explorer and try to navigate to a page with working Flash content (for example, go to our About Flash page)
    3. Reproduce the crash
    4. Once Internet Explorer has crashed, open an Explorer window and navigate to the following folder:
    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Dr Watson
    5. Locate the file named "user.dmp" and copy it to your desktop.
    6. Include the crash log you saved to your desktop in your bug report

  • Particularly nasty crashes with flash

First, I am going to paste a description of the problem I initially posted on tomshardware. It took me a while to realize that
the only connecting thread between the crashes I am experiencing was Flash.
    i5 2500k
    asus p8p67le
    8GB gskill
    Sapphire 6850 (11.9)
    Coolermaster 600w
No overclocking. All the temperatures are fine. Tried a clean install of Radeon drivers.
This crash has been bugging me for a long time. It usually occurs while gaming but not always. Also occurred while viewing flash videos and even just simple images. Appears to be happening in random. I can have a few days without a crash or a couple of hours with 3 crashes.
    Description:
The monitor turns off abruptly as if it isn't receiving a signal. Sound will continue for about 10 seconds and will then loop. After that the only way to get back to normal is a hard reset. Just hitting the reset button doesn't work. The PC resets but the monitor doesn't turn back on. I can see by looking at the hard drive led that the this reboot is stuck somewhere it doesn't get to load windows. The only way to get things back to normal is completely power off the machine and power it back on again.
After I'm back in Windows I get a "the system has recovered from a serious error" message:
The computer has rebooted from a bugcheck. The bugcheck was: 0x0000000a (0xffffffffffffffff, 0x0000000000000002, 0x0000000000000000, 0xfffff80002ed4bb6). A dump was saved in: C:\Windows\MEMORY.DMP. Report Id: 112411-19952-01.
Event viewer doesn't show anything else because apparently the crash takes windows down instantly. Using Whocrashed, I get the following:
On Thu 24-Nov-11 19:13:54 GMT your computer crashed
    crash dump file: C:\Windows\Minidump\112411-19952-01.dmp

This appears to be a typical software driver bug and is not likely to be caused by a hardware problem.
The crash took place in the Windows kernel. Possibly this problem is caused by another driver which cannot be identified at this time.
On Thu 24-Nov-11 19:13:54 GMT your computer crashed

Bug check description: This indicates that Microsoft Windows or a kernel-mode driver accessed paged memory at DISPATCH_LEVEL or above.
This appears to be a typical software driver bug and is not likely to be caused by a hardware problem.
A third party driver was identified as the probable root cause of this system error. It is suggested you look for an update for the following driver: atikmdag.sys (ATI Radeon Kernel Mode Driver, ATI Technologies Inc.).
Google query: atikmdag.sys ATI Technologies Inc. IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
I am pretty helpless diagnosing this crash. No logs and and black screen give very little information. How can I find out what runs at ntoskrnl.exe +0x7CC40 ? Why does whocrash blame two different modules for the crash (the kernel and ATI driver)?
I feel that the fact that a hard reset is necessary might give some clues but I have no experience with these types of crashes, it's also impossible for me to try and reproduce.
Any help is very much appreciated.
I've been experiencing these crashes while doing 3 different things:
    1) Wathcing twitch.tv (online streaming site which uses Flash)
    2) Playing starcraft 2 (which uses flash for it's gui)
    3) Playing Skyrim (uses flash for it's gui)
I think that there is a very high probablity that flash is the culprit here. Is there a way to diagnoze this? Some sort of Flash log to look into?
    Thanks ahead

    Hi,
This is a new instlation of Windows 7 x64. There is no last known good configuation because I've been having these problems ever since I assembelled this machine.
    >You may be having problems with Flash as a direct result of an unstable system, but that app isn't the cause of the problem in this particular case.
How can you be so certain?
All Windows systems have a Last Known Good Configuration option. If you don't have it, then the operating system is not installed properly and that's where the problem lies. See this article for details: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-GB/windows7/Using-Last-Known-Good-Configuration
Flash cannot cause the problem because it's occurring at level 2 (Dispatch_Level), that is to say during the time the operating system and drivers are loading. Since Flash doesn't load during startup, it cannot be the cause of the problem.
The system is unstable because either a driver or the operating system failed to load properly. Consequently, anything you try to use the machine for is likely to go pear-shaped. Since Flash taxes the system, it probably will crash if the operating system is unstable, whereas you can probably run a low level app like Notepad without any problem.
After you built the machine, did you install the chipset drivers? Something often forgotten.
Do you have any black exclamation marks inside yellow circles in Device Manager? Is there an "Other Devices" category? The latter means that a hardware component has loaded, but Windows can't find a driver for it.
Are there any "Problem Devices" in the system? You can check by going to Start, then Run, type: msinfo32 and click OK. Then open the Components tree and then the submenu called "Problem Devices". If you get an error when you run msinfo32, apply this fix: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/977620

  • Firefox 7 consistantly crashes with flash content

This is quite frustrating. Ever since the release of FF6 the performance of Firefox with Flash related content literally sucks! The plugin container is ALWAYS crashing consistently.
It seems that in Mozilla race to compete with Google Chrome in their rapid releases has resulted in rapid blunders. If better testing was in place this crap would not be happening. Mozilla needs to slow their roll in all honesty of people that have been long time Firefox users are going to move to Google Chrome since it is not plagued with issues that are getting all kinds of loyal Firefox fans pissed off over something so simple as flash.
I have had more problems with crashing since Firefox 5 has come out. Obviously the proper testing has not been done by Mozilla. In the 3. series i maybe crashed once a year, now is daily! WAKE UP MOZILLA!
Before I go any further i have read numerous post in here with people have the same problem. I have also done some testing on my own from what Mozilla suggests, in which NONE of their solutions corrects this issue. My solution however, which is not a solution but more a work a round solves totally any plugin-container.exe crashing. It was simply to roll back to Firefox 4.01. I updated to the newest flash player via their site.
I have been crash free for days now! THIS IS NOT AN ADOBE FLASH ISSUE. If it were then i would have crashed in 4.01 as well. For those concerned with the update nag, simply go to options->advanced-> and the tick boxes. that will prevent the nag
I thought that i could re-install Firefox 7 and simply replace the plugin-container.exe from 4.01, however that did not work. It resulted in a complete lock up of Firefox 7.01, and was honestly hoping that it would be that straight forward.
I read some peoples success with the 8b3. So, I tried that, and didn't solve my problem. I crashed within 24 hours again on flash related content. ( the crash ids are for the 8b3 i listed ).
Maybe someone needs to take the plugin container, and associated components in 4.01 and incorporate it in a new release, or revert back to that engine all together so that we can have a nice web experience without all the crashes.
You can get Firefox 4.01 here:
    ftp://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/releases/4.0.1/
edit: replaced random unofficial download site link.

I have found the bug thread, and have posted several posts with information and some examples of sites that provide positive crashes.
    https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=561019
From reading the posts, it looks as if Mozilla has moved this up a bit in priority according to reading into a post from one of the mozilla's team members since I have provided information concerning the crashes.
That particular bug ( Bug 561019 - Plugin waveOutOpen hangs ) is the TOP crasher of plugins:
    https://crash-stats.mozilla.com/topcrasher/byversion/Firefox/7.0.1/7/plugin
As far as reporting bug/hangs. The end user has to press the " submit crash report " link to submit it. If they do not it will sit there until you go into about:crashes
For hangs that DO NOT produce a crash you once again have to go into about:crashes and click on all the reports that DO NOT have a " bp " in front of them to get them to actually submit. They will post in about 3 minutes.
So for the "400 million" said users and " hard facts tend to suggest that most users do not crash " is unreliable to state since it is TOTALLY up to the end user to submit the report providing they know how. I know from working in a professional environment 99.9% of users do not submit error reports of any kind when something crashes the OS or any program. Even with the 9 members of my team they always click "do not send" except for myself.
" Get rid of plugin container " is a non option since you run the risk of features not working as i have found when you do that.
It does seem like a Firefox issue for several reasons: latest version of flash with Firefox v4.01 works flawlessly, and Chrome and IE do not have this issue with flash.

  • Constant Crashes with iDVD on MacBook Pro

I have iDVD 6.02, 1.5GB RAM, 80GB internal HD, and 250GB external Firewire HD. So far I have tried:
    Trashing the .plist
    Trashing caches
Loggin on as a different user
    Checked for duplicate fonts
    Repaired permissions
Repaired volume (external drive where the digital assets are)
I am experiencing constant crashes is I try to add a slideshow item to my project. Slideshows imported from iPhoto seem to work fine but don't allow the manual advance feature (and I have heard the image quality may suffer a bit from the double encode.) Any other ideas on what I can try to get this to work? I have been stuggling with this for hours now and can't see to figure out what is causing the problem.

Where did you save your iDVD project to? External drive? User/Documents folder on your start-up drive?
    All that RAM from Apple?

  • No sound with Flash 15 and Windows 8

No sound with Flashplayer 15 and Windows 8.  I have followed the steps to enable the program and to disable Active X filtering and still no sound.  Sound works on all other applications.
The Adobe website instructions refer to a way to troubleshoot sound that cannot be followed -- see the inserted text below -- it refers to an application below and there is no application shown on the page.
    Can someone please help?
How do I test my speakers?
Click Test Speaker in the application shown below to hear a sample sound. Adjust your speakers or headset so the sound is at a comfortable level.
How can I display this panel again?
You may want to display this panel again if, for example, you want Flash Player to use a different microphone. To display the Microphone panel:
Right-click (Windows) or Control-click (Macintosh) the application image while it is playing.
From the context menu, select Settings, and then click the Microphone tab.
I don't see the Microphone tab, so I can't display this panel.
If your computer or device doesn't support audio recording using Flash Player, you cannot select a microphone to use, and this panel doesn't appear.

    Hi
Is the sound card recognized properly in device manager or can you see yellow exclamation marks there?
I have founded an interesting article on the Toshiba website regarding no sound:
    http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/TSB7C021B0001R01.htm
By the way: You can also mute/unmute the sound if you press FN+Esc. Check this!!!

  • Captivate 5 Crashing with Flash CS5 and Photoshop

    Hello,
It's been awhile since I've been on the forums, so my apologies if this issue has already been posted.
I am running Captivate 5. I find when I am working on a file, if I open PhotoShop (12.0.4 64-bit edition) or Flash CS5 (11.0.2.489) at the same time Captivate is open, my instance of Captivate will crash and I will lose all work that I have not yet saved. Thankfully I've gotten into the habit of saving before opening these programs but I was wondering if anyone else was experiencing this issue and if so, has there been a workaround created?
I want to send a bug report in but I can't for the life of me get it to do it all the time - I can't provide them with exactly how I do it.
    Thanks
    Doug

    Hi Ken,
Thanks for the response. That's what I had been doing with Photoshop, but I didn't think I'd have to do it with Flash as well! This morning, working in Captivate, open Flash, boom - bye bye this morning's work in Captivate!
    Hopefully it'll get resolved soon.
    Thanks!

  • MacOS Lion 10.7.1 Still issues with Flash Player Settings windows

    Hi Everyone, and Adobe,
I have tried almost anything now, but it still doesn't work... I have a few workarounds but non really working
I'm only having this issues with my iMac not my MacBook Pro... how is that?
Using, MacOS Lion 10.7.2 with Flash Player version 11.0.1.152.
I'm still not able to invoke / click on the Flash Player Settings windows in the Browser (Safari) -- I can as described, workaround the Allow and Denied issue by using the System Preferences Flash settings… but I can not change cam setting, from Web CAM to my external Cam. !!
Is this ONLY me having these issues or ?? or wasn't the issue suppose to have been fixed in the latest version af Flash? or … is this issues only related to the Video Card within my iMac (ATI Radeon HD 2600 Pro 256 MB) ?
Some that someone, hopefully Adobe can help me here
hope for some greate feedback ...

This is a known issue with particular iMac machines having ATI Radeon HD cards. Currently, we found iMac 7/8 with ATI Radeon HD 2600 Pro are the most common victim of this issue. We are working with both Apple and ATI to fix this problem. For now, we summarized some work arounds in below forum thread, hope it will be helpful to you!

  • [resolved] Launching crash with Flash builder and Unrecognized Java VM option

    Hello,
I just wanted to share my experience with Flash Builder. Funny if we can call it like that...
I tried to launch Flash builder, which worked since years without problem, but here, there was a problem. In the console log; it says only that :
Unrecognized Java VM option ignored: -Xdock:name=Flash Builder
Unrecognized Java VM option ignored: -Xdock:icon=../Resources/fb_app.icns
Unrecognized Java VM option ignored: -XstartOnFirstThread
I read tons of threads explaining things i didn't understand.
And then I remembered that I changed the name of a folder containing a Flash Builder project (I just removed spaces in the name).
So I renamed it the way it was.
    Done...
    Hope it will help!

  • CS4 (PS 11) constant crashes with larger files -

I am encountering persistent program crashes with Photoshop 11 (CS4) when I have multiple layers (four or more) and the file size exceeds 75 mb. The error message that Photoshop has encountered a problem and is closing appears without further details. When I reopen PS, I then get the message about "Photoshop encountering a problem with the display driver and disabled GPU enhancement" despite the fact that I previously unchecked enable OpenGL drawing in the preferences-performance tab. It is blank on that tab after "Detected Video Card" whereas in CS3, it correctly notes the following video card. My video card is nVidia GeForce 7600 GT with the latest driver dated 10/07/08.I have 4 GB of RAM, however in the performance tab of preferences it notes 1.633 GB AM available and Photoshop using 960 mb. I also have CS3 (PS10) and do not encounter the same problem. The OS is Vista.

Please search the various threads in this forum pertaining to OpenGL issues. Updating to the latest driver 178.24 is inevitable. Also check for the "Old GPU" enabling registry hack. The prefs only get saved on program exit, so it's natural the old options are in place after a crash. Disable OpenGL, exit the program, relaunch it and only then start working with it.

  • Constant crashing with Logic Pro and Vienna Inst

I saw somewhere on the forum (but can't find it) a string regarding constant crashing of Logic Pro using Vienna Instruments (Special Edition). I'm experiencing 2-5 minutes of work time and then a crash - quite regularly. I also saw people point to Mac OS 10.4.9, which I also have - has this been identified as the culprit and have any fixes been offered?
    Help!

Actually it's more like 1-2 minutes - sure seems coincidental to having downloaded 10.4.9 - anybody got any suggestions out there? This is killing me.
