Constant disconnects with Linksys BEFW11S4/Westell/Bellsouth Ultra DSL

I recently upgraded to the 6mb DSL service from Bellsouth.  Previously I had the 3mb.  Anyways everything was fine for sometime even with the faster service.  The last few weeks I have been having constant disconnects(several a day).  Naturally the wireless lite on my Linksys BEFW11S4 goes out each time.  I then un-power the router then re-power and I'm off and running again.  I am using a westell modem.  Bellsouth tells me that its not them since i do have an internet coneection and referred me to Linksys.  After several live chats(due to disconnects and then having to start tellin my issue all over again) they had me upgrade my firmware. Well did that and problem hasn't changed.  I've played with the different router channels and they don't seem to help as well.  Bellsouth told me that I had a static ip, so I tied setting up router that way, but then i got no connection.  Unil reently everything was fine, this just started!   Any help is greatly appreicated.  My 17 yr old daughter is going through internet withdraws upstairs!

If you are on DSL using a Westell Modem; make sure you ask your ISP to bridge the Modem first and use the PPPoE fucntion on your router. Change the LAN IP of the router to something else like 192.168.2.1 so it won't get a conflict with the IP of the Westell. Then if you are on cable, you can try adjusting the MTU size to 1492, 1400, 1300, or 576 then check which value would get your connection stable. You can reset your router right after you upgrade it also, then reconfigure it again. Hopefully yell be fine after that!

  • Constant disconnects with wireless router.

Hello and thanks in advance for any help you can provide.
I have a WRT54G wireless router with speed booster. I am experiencing constant disconnects when online gaming. I have one PC - running windows vista 64bit ultimate. This computer is running a wireless connection which is secured and is about 10 feet from the router through a wall.
I also have an xbox 360 with a wired connection. It doesnt seem to have the same issues but does become a bit sluggish at times.
I have called linksys and they instructed me on how to upgrade to the latest firmware. I think it is 7.5.0 or something. Still having issues. Cox (my ISP) has been out and says I am getting a constant 2mb download.
Any help would be appreciated. I have talked to linksys again they have me pull up cmd and run a test which shows me at a 4-10% packet loss. They say this is an acceptable rate.
Still the problems continue. If anyone can help I would be very greatful. If you need more info just let me know and I will provide whatever I can. Thanks!!!

Sounds like a vista problem, they are breading like rabbits it seems. The WRT54G is a good router, I had one for years with no problems. What type of wireless card do you have in the pc, and is it PCI or USB

  • Constant disconnecting with my WRT120N

    Hi
I have a problem with my wrt120n. I'm having a constant disconnecting problem.
I don't have any problem with the wireless computers connected to the router but the wired one keep geeting disconnected. I'm loosing the internet many times a day on thiis one. Like I said the wireless is ok.
My old router on my computer ( wired) was working well before I installed the wrt120n.
    Can someone help me?
    Thank you!

This is a problem of the Linksys/Cisco WRT120N product itself.  The team from Cisco/Linksys is very irresponsible. Why i say so ?
The 802.11n signal is not certified to be supported but yet they have included this support in this router.  By doing so, it causes this related problem that most consumers must be facing now or in the past.  It is a shame that such a big company operates and sell their products this way.
The solution:  It does not have anything to do with MTU, beacon interval etc....  Just use Mixed BG wireless signal instead of
Wireless N only when you goes to Manual Setup.  I am sure that this solves the problem.

  • E71 constant disconnects with bluetooth

My previous post was moved to "troubleshooting tips" but thats not the case, the problem is with the E71 phone itself. The blue ant headset i have works fine with all other phones
It contantly disconnects with the E71 , the problem is the phone. What can we do to fix the phone?

  • Constant disconnects with "no PPPoE" and "no valid IP address" errors

I have AT&T DSL and have an Airport Extreme connected to a Speedstream 4100 modem. My Internet connection has been fine for nearly a year with the AEBS but for the past couple weeks has been disconnecting so frequently that it's almost become useless. The problems reported by the AEBS are: PPPoE Server (no PPPoE server found) and Internet Connection (AEBS doesn't have a valid IP address). It's always these two problems reported.
Restarting the AEBS gets me connected again, and sometimes the connection will come back on its own, but only for a short while. I don't know how to troubleshoot this. Help! Here are my AEBS settings:
    Radio Mode: Automatic
    Radio Channel Selection: Automatic
    Wireless Security: WPA2 Personal
    Use wide channels: Checked
    Create a closed network: Checked
    Use interface robustness: Unchecked

  • Constant disconnect with centurytel and wrt54gs

I set up dsl for my parents with centurytel, and linksys wireless router.
they can get online fine but seems like while they are surfing it constantly drops the internet connection. if you go to 192.168.1.1 it shows disconected and you have to either wait for it to reconnect or just hit the connect button.
I have it set up with auto dhcp  and the router is set to 192.168.2.1 I have centurytel at my house and work with no problems what so ever,  any ideas to remidy this?
I have gotten router update already, checked to make sure all the dsl filters are on all the phone lines. rechecked all the settings, reset both modem and router and started from scratch ect ect. is there something Im missing.
    Thanks, John

Connect a computer straight to the modem and check for a static connection...If that does not diconnect you, download the firmware for your router from here , re-connect your modem==>router==>computer...
Follow these steps to upgrade the firmware on the device: -
Open an Internet Explorer browser page.In the address bar type - 192.168.1.1
Leave username blank & in password use admin in lower case...
Click on the 'Administration' tab- Then click on the 'Firmware Upgrade' sub tab- Here click on 'Browse' and browse the .bin firmware file and click on "Upgrade"...
Wait for few seconds until it shows that "Upgrade is successful"  After the firmware upgrade, click on "Reboot" and you will be returned back to the same page OR it will say "Page cannot be displayed".
Press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds...
Then, unplug the power keep holding down the reset button for another 30 Seconds...
Plug the power back in, and keep holding down the reset button for 30 Seconds...
Release the reset button...Click here and follow the link to re-configure your router...Connection should be fine...

  • Constant Problems With Linksys Wirless Router

Ever since I bought this Linksys Wireless Router it's been the same ordeal. At certain times, depending on what websites I visit, it will knock me right off the internet and I can't get back on unless I restart my computer. It is so aggravating and annoying and takes like 10 minutes to restart each time. I was assured that the Linksys Wireless Router I bought was compatible with Vista. I've had this same problem ever since I bought it. I've talked to tons of technical support staff and none of them know anything. They all give me a different reason. They tell me I need to download new drivers or the latest version or whatever else, but nothing works. The same problem persists. One thing I have learned is that I get knocked off by going on specific websites. So, in order to use the Internet, I must avoid these known websites that cause me to get knocked off the Internet. I can try and reconnect, but it always says that no network connections are available afterwards, and I must restart my whole computer to get back on the Internet. I am perfectly fine going on these known websites on my other computer that has the actual modem/router hook up. Anyone know why this happens and if there's anyway to fix this? If not I am just going buy me a whole new router/modem cause I am tired of this crap. Thanks, Blake

Change the MTU size on the router to 1300 ... Also reset the browser security settings ....
You can also forward ports 25-27 & 443-447 ... to ensure that secure sites should open ....

  • Connecting with Linksys BEFW11S4

I'm able to connect to the internet using the Linksys router using OS 9 on a G3, but the second computer which is a dual boot G4 will likewise only connect when running OS 9. When the same computer is booted into OS X, Network Diagnostics gives a Green light to Built-in Ethernet, Network Settings and ISP, but Internet and Server get a red light and no internet.
So obviously it has to be Tiger. Any ideas?
Also any ideas for successful DCC sends on IRC with this setup?
    TIA

    I started out with:
Network/Built-in Ethernet GREEN: Built-in Ethernet is currently active and has the IP address x.x.x.x. You are connected to the Internet via Built-in Ethernet.
But since the internet connection was not REALLY working, I clicked on Assist me...
This gives me a green light for Built-in Ethernet, Network Settings and ISP, but a red light for Internet and Server.
A new location produces red lights in all places.
Rebooting into OS 9 produces SUCCESS.
    Thanks for trying!

I've purchased a laptop with Vista and can't get it to connect to my existing wireless network.  I have a Linksys BEFW11SF ver.4 router.  When I attempt, I get, "Wireless connection failed because the network denied the association request from this computer."  Anyone?  Thanks.

  • Constant disconnecting with HomeHub1

I've recently started having problems with my BT HomeHub1 and i'm stumped on what to do with this.
All devices connected to the homehub are thrown off in random intervals at the same time, and the broadband connection drops out of the list of wireless networks available in the area.  But the lights on the hub remain the same, saying that it is still connected to the internet.
When I reset the homehub and let it load, it connects but then disconnects again and this problem repeats between 10 minutes to an hour.
There are no problems in my area when I checked the site
I tried the quiet line test and i've heard no crackling noise.
I tried finding that ADSL Line Status for homehub1 but there is no guide to get to that screen.
If anybody could help guide me into how to sort this out I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks.

Its most likely a fault with the HH1 or its power unit. I have a HH1 and am on my second power unit.
This guide will tell you how to get to the ADSL stats ADSL Statistics

  • Constant disconnects with flashing DSL light

Hi, my Infinity 2 connection has been unusable since last Friday 8th Feb.  I get at the most a few minutes of up time then the connection drops with a flashing DSL light on the Openreach Modem.
I have tried power cycling the hub and modem, changed the cable to the socket and also relocated the modem.
I logged the call with BT on the 9th and on the 11th they marked the job as fixed, but it isnt.
This situation is very frustrating as I rely on my connection heavily for home and vpn to work but there seems to be no progress in a resolve.

I phoned  the helpline in the end and the guy the other end actually did a line test and found an issue.  Apparently an engineer is booked but cannot come out until 21st Feb!!!  That will be nearly 2 weeks downtime.  I have not had the appointment in confirmed in black or white which is not reassuring either.
Really annoyed as when I had adsl with 02 any issue (which was very rare) got resolved either next day or within the promised 3 days.
I also didn't have to chase them to resolve it and they Defo didn't mark a job as fixed until it actually was.
Not very impressed by BT at all.  I have phone, Bt Vision and Infinity 2 with them so I pay them enough every month.

  • BEFW11S4 with Westell/Bellsouth DSL, and wanting file and print sharing

I have configured the BEFW11S4 to share the DSL connection with Ethernet to home PC, and wireless to laptop.
How can I configure this to also allow the laptop to connect to the home PC for file and printer sharing?
Sorry if the is discussed elsewhere, im noob here and couldnt find anything applicable.
    Thanks!

Check IP on each PC: For example:
    PC1: 192.168.1.100
    PC2: 192.168.1.101
Ping 192.168.1.101 from PC 1 and ping 192.168.1.100 from PC2... see which replies...
If both give out positive replies... then that is not a router issue but PC issues. Might be firewalls.

  • Linksys BEFW11S4 v2 with a NETGEAR RP614 v3

    I have a Linksys BEFW11S4 v2 with a NETGEAR RP614 v3.
My setup is my Cable modem, into my NETGEAR RP614 v3, and everything works perfectly fine. I got a Linksys BEFW11S4 v2 and updated its firmware from the linksys server.
    Now,
I'm hooking the Linksys into the NETGEAR router (ethernet) and using the Linksys wireless to connect my laptop to the entire network.
(My PC desktop is running XP Home and my Laptop is running Windows Vista Home Premium)
My laptop can go online perfectly fine wirelessly, and the signal and everything seems perfectly fine. My problem is however, my Laptop can't see the computers on the NETGEAR router. (The Linksys acquires the correct IP and Domain and everything from the NETGEAR however).
I've set the network discovery and all in Windows Vista to on, however it can't see the computers still. I've even disabled the Firewalls at one point on the desktops.
However, Itunes finds the SHARED music files and stuff from the NETGEAR computers. And when I ran Diablo2, with TCP/IP I could connect to a game hosted by a NETGEAR computer, yet when I hosted, they couldn't connect to me behind the Linksys.
Anyone think they can help ?
    Thank you for your time,
    Charles Louis

That's because they belong to different networks: I think it goes this way...
Netgear usually operates under the network IP of 192.168.0.x while Linksys operates under network IP of 192.168.1.x ......... now if you want to do file and printer sharing on all your PC's... have them belong to the same network by doing the ff:
► change IP of the BEFW11S4 to 192.168.0.x (preferrably 50)
► disable the Linksys DHCP server
► connect the Netgear to port 1 of the Linksys router
This would make in effect your BEFW11S4 just like a wireless switch.

  • Westell 6100G in bridge mode with Linksys BFSR41 wired router

I have had a long go-round with V tech support over slow DSL speeds since March 2011. They sent me the Westell 6100G to replace an ancient Westell that had provided satisfactory service for many years, connected through my LInksys BFSR41.
Initially, I connected the Westell directly to a PC and did not see any improvement in speed (always around 1.3M since March). So I re-connected it in bridge mode with the LInksys. Slow speeds continued, plus periodic hiccups, where the connection would simply not exist, although the lights were all good and the LInksys said "connected. Cure was to wait or power down modem and router. The following week a V tech called and said they had made changes to the network and fixed a problem with my line.
Thereafter I did  see a vast improvement in speed as tested by Speedtest.net and Speakeasy.com (usually 2.8 M or thereabouts). But I still had the "hiccups". Now you see it, now you don't.
V tech support said, "connect the Westell directly". This indeed solved all intermittance problems. But I need the router  and I need it to do the DHCP addressing dynamically as I frequently swap out machines. FYI this is a PPOe connection.
I hope someone on the forum can help me before I spend anther 2 hours in voicemail limbo.
    Solved!

Well, my heat/humidity solution helped, but has not solved my problem. My connection still disappears at unpredictable, though less frequent intervals.  Any and all ideas willl be appreciated.
    Thanks

  • Linksys BEFW11S4 v4

    Hi,
I have a Linksys BEFW11S4 that works just fine, or so I think. Currently there are 2 desktops and a PS3 connected to the router via cat-5. One desktop has Win Vista/Win 7 (both 32-bit Home) installed and the other desktop has XP Home. I recently got a Dell N5010 laptop with Win 7 Home 64-bit installed on it. I'm trying to set up the wireless network so I can use the laptop upstairs, but after setting up WEP and WPA, I can either NOT connect to the internet on the laptop, or when I do connect, the desktop with the dual OSes gets kicked off the internet, then the laptop disconnects, and I have to reset the router in order to get online with the desktop. I've searched everywhere for a solution. Everything is set to obtain an IP automatically, I've tried doing manual configuration, I've made sure firmware for the router is up-to-date, all network adapters have the latest drivers, I can use the laptop when it's wired to the router. The laptop has an Intel WiFi Link 1000 BGN adapter installed. Drivers are the latest, status says it's working properly. Like I mentioned before, I can use the laptop and everything else wired to the router when security is disabled, but I, personally, do not want my network unsecure.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Yes, I am able to connect without any problems when the network is unsecure. Setting the security to WEP worked. The last time I tried that, it kept saying Limited Access, so that was probably user error and me not putting the code in correctly. Firmware version is 1.52.03. There aren't any other wireless devices on the network since the PS3 is connected to the internet via a cat-5 cable.
Is it safe to use WEP instead of WPA?
