Constant email password request

I was told by apple support that the email server bandwith whether it is attnt (mine) or another is the problem. it is not the mail set up. if you select the cancel button your mail eventualoy shows up. Has anyone the same issue. It is constantly annoying all day and all night long. So I must think it is also a mail problem, as I never had this issue on my windows outlook....

Open /Applications/Utilities/Keychain Access, choose Keychain First Aid from the application menu, and proceed to repair the keychain. If that doesn’t work, you may try removing the password entry from the keychain and letting Mail create it again the next time it asks for it.
Note, however, that Mail often doesn’t correctly report what the problem really is. If Mail can connect to the server but cannot log into your mail account for some reason, it’ll ask for your password regardless of whether that’s really the problem or not. Don’t keep entering the password every time, because that’s not the problem (click Cancel instead, and take the account back online afterwards).
Some ISPs refuse connection attempts if they are too frequent, for example, or limit the number of simultaneous connections that are allowed from the same IP address, or there may be too many messages on the server and Mail times out before the server responds, or there might be a problem with the network, or there might be a problem with the server...
Do you access this account from more than one computer or some other way (e.g. webmail) while Mail is checking for mail?
What’s the time interval chosen in Mail > Preferences > General > Check for New Mail? If it’s set to Every minute, try changing it to Every 5 minutes.
If this is a POP account, what are your Preferences > Accounts > Remove copy from server settings?
Go to Apple Menu > System Preferences > Network, choose Network Port Configurations from the Show popup menu, and make sure that the configuration used to connect to Internet appears at the top of the list. Leave checked (enabled) only the port configuration needed to connect to Internet and Built-in Ethernet (in that order if not the same), uncheck (disable) the rest of network port configurations and see whether that helps — if it doesn’t, turn ON again the ones you want enabled.
Try using a different method to connect to Internet, if possible, or connecting the computer to Internet as directly as possible (i.e. bypassing any routers that might be present, using an ethernet cable instead of wireless, etc.), and see whether that makes a difference.

  • Constant Email password corruption in System Prefs in locked  PP/ E panel

My Internet Connection keeps going off. Frequent calls to the Help Desk have led to the same conclusion--my email password--the one that is entered in the PPofE panel that I keep locked within System Preferences--keeps getting corrupted.
This happens each time I reboot, and, sporatically--several times each week--either when I am working or when the machine is on, but I am away from it .
I am at a loss to understand this because the panel is locked and I have to enter my machine password each time I re-enter my email password to get things started up again.
Any suggestions will be welcome. Thanks.

    Hi Susan,
Open Keychain Access in Utilities, use Keychain First Aid under the Window Menu item, then either check the Password under that item, change it, or delete it and start over.

If Keychain First Aid finds an issue that it cannot repair, or if you do not know your keychain password, you may need to reset your keychain.

  • Email password request

Is it possible to have my N8 request my password before accessing my email accounts.  I am worried that it opens automatically and if lost or stolen somebody will be able to access my private and business email accounts and therefore info within.

As far as I know, its not possible. If your scared I suggest you activate the remote locking on it. That way if you lose it all you have to do it send a txt message to your phone with a specific phrase and it will automatically locks your phone. Or also there are some great apps on Ovi store that helps you find the location of your stolen phone on the map.

  • N8 email password request

Had my N8 for a while now  and it's been working fine.
I have two email accounts BT internet and Ovi. Been sending and receiving stuff on both at least daily since I've had it.
I've noticed though that in the last couple of days that when I access the mail box on the phone it asks for the passwords. I can't seem to find why it's started doing this. Anyone have any ideas, as it's a bit annoying to say the leat!

Yes, same thing happening with my my N8, also with BT Internet.  Called Nokia support and they were very helpful and reset my password.  However, problem has returned.  Maybe its BT (Yahoo) and not Nokia?  I have now set up my email settings by visiting http://uk.mobilemail.yahoo.net/welcome/ .  This seems to work OK and not prompt for the password.  However, it appears to set itself up as POP 3 and not IMAP so push email does not seem to work.  A bonus is that sent emails are saved in the sent folder on the phone, whereas this did not happen before.

ipad keeps requesting outlook password, trying cancel but still in cycle - can not do anything else.  NOTE - recently change email password on PC

    Try a reboot:
To reboot your iPad, hold down the sleep/wake button and the home button simultaneously until the screen goes black and the Apple logo appears. If, during this process, a slider appears on the screen to power it off, ignore it and keep holding the buttons down.
Rebooting your iPad can solve a lot of problems. Once you do that, go into Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars and make sure the correct, new password is entered in that account.

  • Constant password request pop-up!

How can I get an old user ID password request to stop popping up on my iphone? My Apple ID has been successfully changed, but this request, related to an earlier email address, keeps popping up. Any password I try to enter fails, but if I cancel the request the pop-up goes away. This began happening after the latest IOS 6 update. Going into my account with the old user ID in question and requesting the lost password be sent to me produces nothing.

I have found that frequent user ID - password requests are directly related to Game Center.  My recommendation is to go to Game Center, and sign out of it (except when you're using it).  That should help a lot.

  • Sending email in one account, triggers a password request from another

I have several email accounts operating in MAIL. I have recently noticed that when I send an email in one account, a second account pops up and requests a password. I used to type in the password, but then I thought: has a nasty virus infected my system and somehow, whenever I send emails, they are also secretly being sent somewhere else via this second password-seeking account.
There is nothing in the Outbox for the second account, so I'd like to find out what is going on. Is this an indication of a virus, or has MAIL gone haywire?
I can get around the problem by clicking OK to the password request from the second account (but not having typed anything in), which sends me to a window asking me if I want to use another account to send the email. I select the first account (the one I actually want to use), it asks me for the password, and away it goes.
Thanks in advance for any comments.

    Guy,
You need to provide us with some additional info about the SMTP you are using as the Outgoing Server for each account, and what, if any, relationship that SMTP has to both accounts. The use of the SMTP provided by your ISP, for example, if Authenticated either by Password or by SMTP after POP3 methods, can trigger a password prompt that looks the same as that for the Incoming server of an account provided by that ISP.
    More info, please.

  • Repeated requests for email password

Every now and then (months apart) msn asks me to fill in my email password on my MBP (Lion) every 2 seconds or so for hours at a time - then it usually stops at some point on it's own - and starts doing it again arbitrarily. Has anyone heard of this madness?  I have a 13" laptop from 2009.

    try these two things:
    1) in mail>preferences>general find out what option you have selected for checking mail, if every one minute, you may want to change to 5 minutes or longer, as the one minute change has been known to cause problems with asking/authenticating passwords.
    2) go to your Keychain Access and find out if you have more than one password created for that email account, if so, delete so that you have only one, hopefully the right one
    hope this helps

I keep receiving Reset email password emails.
The most recent one was actually addressed to someone else... i.e. the name in the email not the email address. why is this happening?? I am not requesting to reset my icloud email password.

That's probably because it's been sent out to a Bcc'd mailing list and that's the name on the main version. This is so that you don't see the other names.
If it doesn't come from something @apple.com then it's spam. Even if it appears to it's probably spam. If you want to change your password go directly to http://appleid.apple.com - do not follow any links in the email (even if they appear to lead to that address.)

  • ICal yields "Error during PUT for mailto:valid@email: iMIP request failed"

    Hello,
I'm trying to bring up an iCal server (using Mac OS X Lion 10.7.3 Server on a Mac Mini). The basic configuration runs fine. But when I tried to enable eMail invitations, I got stuck with those messages in the error log:

the above settings are invalid, because of the gateway (this has to be iCal itself):

    Hi there!
Not knowing anything more than what you've posted (e.g., email provider, text of the request, etc.), we can only surmise that this must be the password revalidation that HotMail and other providers send out on a periodic basis. Here is the KB that discusses what to do:

  • HT5639 how can I reset my email password?

how can I reset my email password?
ical keeps jumping up and down asking for the pw, but i dont remember it...

    Hi swhite22
The only way to reset your email password is to get in contact with your email service provider. All you would need to try and find out is what your email address is and then you can find out who is hosting and get them to reset it for you.
Otherwise It just sounds like your iCal is set with an account to sync calendars and you can also decide if it is needed in there and at least stop the account so the request doesn't come up every few minutes.
Hope this sheds some light on the subject

  • Recurring Password request.

I'm trying to help someone with a recurring password request. They are using Mail.app in Tiger to access their Dot Mac/MobileMe mail. They are using POP and the server mail.mac.com.
Here is the scenario: They launch Mail.app, are asked for their Dot Mac/MobileMe password, enter it and it is accepted. Then, about every 15 minutes, they're asked for the password again. Since I don't use Mail.app (I use Thunderbird), I want to confirm a hypothesis: to me it sounds like Mail.app is checking for new mail every 15 minutes and they don't have the password entered in the Mail.app Account settings. An alternate scenario is that they didn't check the box that asks if they want the password saved in their Keychain.
Do either of these possibilities sound right? If not, what else should I ask them to check?
Normally I don't cross-post, but in this case I'm going to post this in the MobileMe forum.

Only if it is blatant; in this case the problem affects BOTH Mac OS 10.4 and MobileMe so 2 posts had to be made.

    Possible.
An alternate scenario is that they didn't check the box that asks if they want the password saved in their Keychain.
Also possible, assuming they have been ignoring that prompt all along.
But there are two other possibilities: their Keychain entry for that account could be corrupted, or MobileMe could be "forgetting" the password that it previously accepted.
I thought about the com.apple.mail.plist, but I forgot about the mobileme plist. Thank you for the reminder.
You should confirm with your own eyes if possible that the first two scenarios aren't true; that would make the third scenario the most likely one, which can be fixed.
Unfortunately, this is a long-distance-via-email assistance.
