Constant freezing after clean installs of OS X

I have a Late 2008 Macbook Pro.
I did a clean install of the OS and immediatly after booting into OSX, the system freezes and I get the spinning beach ball. Sometimes it lets me click on Finder, but then it just freezes again.
I have installed Leopard, Snow Leopard, Lion and Mountain Lion, each time formatting the hard drive and doing a clean install. It happens everytime on each version!!!
I have checked disk permissions and verify disk through Disk Utility. Comes back clean.
I have ran the apple hardware test. Comes back clean.
Here is the kicker. It works perfectly in SAFE mode. It does not freeze up at all.
Please help! I've spent many hours (20+) trying to fix this.

Are there any methods to confirm a faulty graphics adapter, such as running some kind of diagnostics? Im assuming the graphics card is built into the logic board so I cant just replace it. In Windows I could reinstall the graphics controller and reinstall the driver. Are there any Mac equivilents to this? I am fairly new to Mac troubleshooting.

  • Aperture doesn't open after clean installation of Mountain Lion

I have just done a clean installation  of mountain lion.
After that, I have downloaded my copy of aperture from the store and installed it ( i think, just becase when done, at the store says that it is installed )
But when I try to launch aperture from de applications menu, an error appears and aperture quits immediatelly. The error says that, "an error has occurred. You should reinstall aperture or could be your operating system is not supported", more or less, translating it from the Spanish.
I have been searching for the installed files with finder, but nothing seems to be installed at the hard disk. Even the library that tipically appears at the Pictures folder doesn't appear.
    Could somebody help me, please?
    kind regards to everybody.

    Many thanks for your answer.

  • Crashing after Clean Installation Yosemite 10.10.3

Hello guys, I ve a problem since I installed Yosemite 10.10.3 (clean installation). I had the oldest version of Yosemite but when 10.10.3 released I decided to make a clean installation. After a few days I got the first crash and a few minutes ago got the newest. I'm very disappointed because I use Mac OS X 1.5 years now and  it's the first time my system crashes. I don't know how to resolve this problem. The only thing I did was a Hardware Test that was fine and a Hard Disk Verification that was also fine. I'll post both of the reports and I'd like your opinion.

  • No Sound after clean installation of windows 7 from Vista

I had a problem with vista on my Hp dv6809wm laptop. My sound driver kept deleting itself and when I would do a system recovery it suddely worked again, but only for a short while. Eventually it stopped working entirely. Then my next step was an HP driver recovery, which also worked a couple times but then stopped. After a couple weeks I decided to purchase Windows 7 through my school and do a "clean" installation to wipe out everything and start fresh. Well when I finally got done, my sound still doesnt work, and im still getting the red x over the sound icon, I have no sound driver. HP support has no sound drivers for my computer for windows 7 or HP, only 3 for vista, I have tried them all and I get different error messages each time, usually saying driver not found (isnt that the point of downloading it?) or it will say cannot find media something. I have no idea what to do. Please help

There is posibilily for hardware problem, broken sound chip in particular.
Backup all of your data and try HP system recovery, choose factory installed setting.
It will restored all software and drivers as "new" condition.
If it does not fix the sound problem, 100% you have hardware problem.
    Installing Win7 wont fix it.

  • Have Upgrade Graphic Card Driver, But Still Cannot Adjust Screen Brightness and Sleep Button Not Showing After Clean Installation of Windows 8.1

I have done clean installation of Windows 8.1 on my HP Pavilion G4.
Then I realize that I cannot put my computer on sleep mode and cannot adjust screen brightness.
I understand that those problems caused by the graphic card driver.
My computer is running on AMD Radeon HD 6400 series.
Thus, I manually search on internet and found a latest graphic card update on microsoft site that is claimed compatible on windows 8.1 (link: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/apps/dn344644.aspx).
I've upgraded it into the latest one. I've check on Device Manager, the driver is running well.
But my problem did not solved!
    Please give me the solution!

    Hi,
How about go to Device Manager, then uninstall Graphic driver and restart your computer, system will install its build in graphic drver. You can have a try.
In addition, access to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Brightness and set its value to 100 for test.

  • Constant freezing after upgrade to 10.6!!

Like the title says ever since I've upgraded to Snow Leopard I've been met with constant freezing on the internet or itunes and on one occassion the system. What do I do? My system overall is a bit slower too.

    Thanks for your help.
I discovered that there was an issue with the virtual host config files. I am not sure why but the problem passed the Apache startup routine. I discovered the offending VH config file by turning them all off and reactivating them one at a time. The real head scratcher is why I couldn't scan or ping port 80 during the problem.

  • Mavericks freezing even after clean installation. Help me, please!

    Hi,
I'm having some issues with my Mavericks in my MacBook Pro Late 2011 (below you'll find my system information from EtreCheck).
I've tried update my Mountain Lion to Mavericks (10.9). The installation went well, but after that the OS has freezed several times, mainly when I was using iPhoto and Firefox (or Safari) together. My iPhoto library has more than 200 GB. I needed to forcely restart the machine every time the freezing ocurred. Important: the freezing was not completely; I could do things like show the desktop (I use one hot corner for that), but couldn't open or close programs.
I've got very frustrated and thought about downgrading to ML.
But I tried to do a clean installtation of Mavericks (10.9.1). I did that, but problems continued (different, but continued).
First, I've got a strange message saying that I run out of memory application (same as this one: http://www.michaelkummer.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/10/2013-10-27-at-2.25-PM-2x .png). This problem didn't happen anymore (maybe because I've deleted all my Internet accounts, as suggested by someone here, because I've received some Keychain's messages asking me to change my passwords).
The freezing problem continues now, but a little differently. Sometimes, when I open my MB Pro display, the screen gets blank and didn't appear nothing in it, and I need to forcely restart it frequently.
Well, that's it. I'm seriously considering to do the downgrade, but decided to try getting help here with you, all the experts and good people.
    Thank you in advance!

have you tried resseting it by holding the sleep/wake button and the home button for 15 seconds? if that doesn't work try doing a DFU mode(http://www.iclarified.com/entry/index.php?enid=1034) restore and see if that fixes it.

  • Permissions errors after clean installation of 10.7.2

hey, I'm sorry for the length of this thread.
after upgrading to Lion (via mac app store) from the newest snow leopard, the system's performance had become worst.
then, i decided to back up all of my files manually and do a clean install making a lion 10.7.2 bootable DVD from the .dmg file I purchased, and converting a USB flash drive to the lion recovery disk assistant.
I decided not to back up anything (including user) using time machine and migration assisnant.
after finishing with this process I've created a new administrator user and verified and repaired disk & permissions, and then moved back all of my data from an external HDD. putting everything back to place where it was before formatting, and changing all of the system preferences, apple software (iTunes, Safari, iPhoto, Finder) one by one.
    of course, software updates, restarts.
I've done a few things that I might shoudn't do:
copying the entire 'Music' folder of my user with all of its contents like 'iTunes Library Extras.itdb', 'iTunes Library Genius.itdb', 'iTunes Library.itl', 'iTunes Music Library.xml'.
after that I also did itunes file > import playlist > Library.xml  (which i exported to external HDD before formatting).
unfortunately, something has got very wrong with this process. now these brand new awful issues came up:
    1. everytime after logging in/restarting, it seems like the Finder 'doesn't remember' the changes i have made. and I have to manually change it back:
    - menu bar is going back to default (brings back BlueTooth and Time Machine's icons, for example)
    - the dock comes back to the default (only apple apps in the specific order, the stock icon beside the trash comes back to be Documents, etc.)
    - expose gestures are disabled again (like the default)
    2. repeatedly, every time when opening iTunes i see the Software License Agreement, scroll down, agree and iTunes refreshes itself to the default pref (with the ping window and 'iTunes Tutorials' splash screen, prefs like "prevent devices from syncing automatically" are disabled again etc.)
the itunes album artwork screensaver says - there are no album artworks in your itunes library.
    3. on Safari, it basicly does the same as with itunes. 'forgets' all the changes. (bookmarks, bookmarks bar is reverted to the default apple, yahoo, googlemaps, forgets the homepage).
    4. iphoto - 'iphoto has detected inconsistencies in your library' every time.
Then, with DU i performed a permissions verify:

    Permissions repair complete
after the repair i did verify again and nothing has really changed.
I'm confuses. what have gone wrong with the permissions, libraries, .plists or account...
it does work better then before the formatting in terms of stabillity (safari used to crash a lot, left click menu is faster now, restarting also)
but of course, I can't live with the fact the system doesn't remember anything I do and acts almost like 'new' everytime I open an app or restart.
is it reversible, repairable, fixable, or should I go with the last preffered option on backing up everything from the Carbon Copy Cloner user.sparseimage I have created before formatting, and maybe revert everithing back, with all of the pros and cons?
    Thank you for reading this.
    have a nice one

I had a similar problem with my Mid-2010 MBP after upgrading to LION and using Target Disk Mode wherein I simply dragged and dropoped my I-tunes Library from my other MBP to the newly updated one. I began getting the same permission error messages when using DU. The problem lies in the UIagent.app as indicated in the log. The ONLY way to correct this problem I found after literally weeks of heartache was to restore my MBP to factory settings and reinstall my apps and OSX in this way, EXACTLY this way: Yes, it may be regarded as overkill to most, but I guarantee that you will be saving yourself umpteen amounts of time and frustration blindly throwing a dart hoping to hit the bullseye. Please read and print this page before you begin.
    1. reset PRAM click here to learn how to reset PRAM
    2. COMPLETE format  hard drive and reinstall of my ORIGINAL Operating System (using the grey installation disks provided to me when i bought the computer).:
Put your install DVD into the optical drive and reboot. As soon as you hear the boot chime, hold down the "c" key on your keyboard (or the Option key until the Install Disk shows up). That will force your MacBook to boot from the install DVD in the optical drive.
When it does start up, you'll see a panel asking you to choose your language. Just press theReturn key on your keyboard once. It will then present you with an Installation window.Completely ignore this window and click on Utilities in the top menu and scroll down to Disk Utility and click it. You should see your hard drive in the left hand column along with your other drives.
Click on the drive and select the Erase tab. Set the format value to Mac OS Extended (Journaled) and click the Erase button. After that has finished select the Partition tab. Type in aName for your hard drive and select how many partitions you want from the Volume Scheme. The usual setting is one partition. Click on the Options button after you've selected apartition to make sure it's set for GUID. Then click the Apply button and after the Partitioning is done quitDisk Utility. You can now follow the instructions on the install screen and install your Operating System (Snow Leopard). DO NOT MIGRATE ANY DATA OR USE TIME MACHINE. INSTALL FROM THE ORIGINAL DISKS ONLY.
After OSX Install, Insert your Applications Install DVD Disk and install.
Now run Software Update from the Apple Menu and update and Install any Updates.
3: Then BEFORE upgrading to LION and BEFORE migrating or copying any data to the new system via whatever source, you need to enable the Root User. But before you do this read here (and read it carefully) to leard about the "root" user.
    4. After you are logged in as the Root user, you can now begin installing whatever Applications PACKAGES to your computer individually from either: A.) original cd/dvd install disk (recommended - if you have the disk, use it!), B.) Downloaded from the web (make sure you are using an ethernet/wired connection), C.) previously downloaded Application Package, or D.) by using Target Disk Mode via firewire connected to another Mac Apple doc.#58583.   (DO NOT use time machine and do not drag and drop Applications to install - You can drag and drop the packages to the desktop and install but not by moving the wanted Applications Icon into the applications menu).
    5. After you have the applications you want installed, run software update again and install any recommended updates.
    6. Open Disk Utility and verify/repair the disk permissions.  (if no issues are present, go to #7) You need to run repairs at least twice consecutively within the root account, restarting afterwards and logging in as Root again.
    7. Open I-Tunes.Open Finder and move your I-Tunes library over by locating the Music folder which contains your music (i.e. /Users/**/Music/iTunes/iTunes Media/Music). DO NOT move the Music folder that is present as a subfolder to the user you are logged in as (i.e.: /Users/**/Music). Make sure it's the folder "Music" that is a subfolder of "I-Tunes Media" which contains all the actual subfolders of your library (i.e.: /Users/jmebenton/Music/iTunes/iTunes Media/Music/30 Seconds to Mars). The Music folder indicated in my example is the one you should drag and drop into your I-Tunes Music Library in the Open I-Tunes window.
    8. After your music transfers, Open Disk Utility and verify/repair the disk permissions AGAIN.  (if no issues are present, try to repair the permissions anyway) You need to run repairs at least twice consecutively within the root account, restarting afterwards and logging in as Root again.
    9. Now transfer any files or data you need. (DO NOT UPGRADE TO LION YET)
    10. LOG OUT and LOG IN as an Administrator (not the Root "Other User").
    11. Install LION
    12. When LION is completely installed, restart and log-in as the Root user.
    13. Open Disk Utility and verify/repair the disk permissions AGAIN.  (if no issues are present, try to repair the permissions anyway) You need to run repairs at least twice consecutively within the root account, restarting afterwards and logging in as Root again.
    14. Disable the root user
Choose Apple menu > System Preferences, and then click Users & Groups.Open Users & Groups preferences
Click the lock icon to unlock it, and then type an administrator name and password.
In the Network Account Server section, click Edit.
    Click Open Directory Utility.
Click the lock icon to unlock it, and then enter your administrator name and password.
Choose Edit > Disable Root User.
    15. Now Log into your computer and ENJOY!!!

  • InDesign 5.5 constant crashing Lion (clean installation). Please help.

I have been having a constant battle to get InDesign to work on my iMac since installing Lion.
I have erased my hard disk twice to reinstall the system from scratch (installing Snow Leopard first, then Lion — all my Time Machine backups in SnowLeopard have been replaced by a single Lion backup so I can't go back to Leopard without losing all my preferences for other Apps).
I have also removed ALL fonts, both from the Library and FontAgent Pro.
I even used a new, clean Admin User but, after installing InDesign 5.5 (having previously Unstalled it, and deleted the Adobe Indesign Preferences folder in my (now hidden) library) the problem persists. I HAVE WORK TO DO!
Below is the crash report. If anyone can help I'll be SO grateful... fingers crossed someone will spot something.
    http://pastebin.com/5t2AxeQ1

    Follow the below mentioned steps:-
Solution 1: Clear the SING Datastore folder.
Quit InDesign (force quit, if necessary).
Move the following folder to the desktop:
    Mac OS: [Startup Disk]/Library/Applications Support/Adobe/SING/Mark II/Datastore
Note: This is in the Library folder on the root of your startup disk. There is a similar path in your user folder, but that is not the path you need to work in. Windows 7/Vista: C:\ProgramData\Adobe\SING\Mark II\Datastore
    Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Adobe\SING\Mark II\Datastore
    Relaunch InDesign.
    Attempt to reproduce the problem.
If the problem is NOT resolved with the solution above, proceed to Solution 2.
Solution 2: Remove the SING component.
Note: Users who do not receive .indd files from users of the CJK versions of InDesign can function perfectly fine without the SING component.
Quit InDesign (force quit, if necessary).
Move the following folder to the desktop:
Mac OS: [Startup Disk]/Library/Applications Support/Adobe/SING/Mark II
    Windows: C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\SING\Mark II
    Relaunch InDesign.
    Attempt to reproduce the problem.

  • Freezing after HD installation - failure - HELP.

    Hi,
Major major problems after attempting a HD upgrade. Initially the system was freezing when a Seagate Barracuda 400GB drive was installed as primary boot drive with 10.4. installed. Jumpers were set to master - with drives 2, 3, 4 running off a SATA controller. After 2/3 minutes - system would freeze and required force quit. So removed drive - re-installed 80GB drive and the same is happening. Help.
The boot drive has Tiger - my question is - could the failed installation upset the CPU - and if so - should I re-set it? I've even tried re-booting of a secondary drive running 10.3.9 - and the same thing happens - total freeze.
All suggestions for cure would be appreciated.
    BB

    Hi Majordadausma,
Haven't tried changing the jumper to cable select yet - thanks for the advice. I've actually ordered a Dual core G5 - because IMO - the G4 just can't handle my power apps + Tiger. Re-setting the pmu stabilised the system to work with - and when i have the new G5 - i'll get back inside the G4 and try your tip. Too scared to attempt any more meddling just now.
Finally - I did note the Seagate Barracuda 7200.8 - ST3400832A firmware was 3.03! Could this be significant as the other HD in the G4 has firmware 3.06?
    Regards,
    BB

  • Re-Installing Logic Pro 9 after clean installation of OS.(?)

Hi, I had a question I just could not find the answer to on search engines, so I made a discussion thread myself.
I currently have Logic Pro 9 installed on a Mountain Lion OSX.
Is it possible for me to somehow re-install/transport Logic Pro 9 without losing the application?
(Assuming that there still isn't a way to download the application from the app store due to Logic Pro X)
I'm afraid to reformat my computer and upgrade to an SSD because I'm assuming that there is no way that I can get Logic 9 back if I lose the current installation. Other than keeping the current partitioned drive or using CCC, is there a way to re-install Logic 9 after a clean (reformatting) installation of a new partitioned drive? (A way to get it back from the app store, or keeping an installation file from the package contents of Logic Pro 9 if there is one.)
I would really appreciate some help! Thanks.

    Yes...yes... and correct....
The app itself is no longer sold so you can't "look" at it (or purchase it) but once you sign in to the App Store using the same Apple ID you used to purchase Logic Pro 9 in the first place...   on your new Mac you will see it available for you to download, under the purchased tab where it will say "Install"
Again, bear in mine this only works if you purchased Logic Pro 9 via the App Store originally. It does not work for those that originally bought the DVD version of Logic Studio/Pro 9..
I just had to do this myself on one of my testbed Macs which I wiped and installed 10.6.8 for testing purposes on behalf of a client of mine.....  and Logic Pro 9.1.8 was there, under the purchased tab in the Mac App Store app...  exactly as expected... ready for me to install.

  • Veriface no longer works after clean installation of Y410p

QuestionI have a Lenovo Y410p. I wiped the hard drive and lost Lenovo Veriface. I did a clean install of Windows 8.1 and redownloaded Lenovo Veriface. Unfortuantely Veriface no longer works. It doesn't install and when I try to run it it says that it can only run on Lenovo hardware. Can you please help?
AnswerAs we are not sure which resource that you downloaded the Lenovo Verfiface software, we recommend you to double check if you have the right copy
The link below is for Lenovo Veriface for your reference:

A customer said it eventually works after using the Lenovo Verficace software as per the link provided above.

After pulling all my hair out of my head, i open the link above which was great, if you can understand Chinese but luck be good and I hit the right install button only to have a message saying " This software is not supported in the new Windows 10 and to contact the apps developer for assistance......This is a major disruption as I know that certain upgrades can deny installations and softwares to run and even alter registry values but for a Operating System to completely deny a software dedicated straight for Lenovo to operate is very troubling especially with Microsoft wanting to promote their HELLO version of face log in recognition software that to this date, can't even be installed or made to operate in the envioronment presently. I am not sure that if you directly install it from it's media that it would work. It shows in my windows old folder with the driver and the install exe being visible when when you try and install it..Nothing but a disrespectful message telling you that veriface can only be installed on a lenovo computer, which I had to just laugh at, cause that's what I have.

  • Photoshop freezes after new installation.

I have a PC with windows 7. I have had photoshop on here for a year or so with no problems. I recently reformatted my PC and now for some reason when I open photoshop after it has finished installing, the grey window opens and just freezes. ive tried reinstalling 10 times and it does the same thing every time. I dont understand what could be different now than before.. maybe some kind of windows update? Either way I really need get this fixed and get back to work!

I found another thread with the same problem and the guy figured out that he needed to update the licensing EUA. i downloaded it but i dont know how to "install" it ha
Problem finally solved!  Someone figured out the problem and pointed me at:
    http://www.adobe.com/support/contact/licensing_download_eula.html
That is a command-line utility that updates the FLEXnet licensing service to the latest and greatest version.  Updating it fixed my problem.  I was finally able to start Photoshop and got the product activation screen.  I was also able to successfully activate the product.
The tool itself is kind of cheesy and is command-line driven, but as long as it works I could care less.  Appears to be written in Python."""

  • GIMP freezes after clean install

I just finished a clean install of Leopard and then installed X11 and Gimp 2.2.11 (I think this is the latest Universal Binary). However, after starting the program a screen saying "caching fonts" comes up. It stays on that screen for a while and then crashes. Any suggestions?
    Thanks!

same problem, apparently no solution until now...
It looks like an update by Gimp of the embedded library could help...
Definitely I have the impression that many more options are available for the intel users. But updating the hardware is out of my budget.
