Constant freezing and no response from computer upon plugging in

Question

I have had my ipod photo since this past christmas and aside from initially being able to put my library on it, it has never worked since. I can play music when it isn't connected to the computer, but whenever I plug it in to charge it freezes upon being plugged in, so I have to reset it every time I take it out. Most of the time when it's unplugged, during normal use, it constantly freezes up as well and occasionally results in having to reset it then, too. Windows used to recognize it as an ipod but no longer does so, it's in what should be drive d but when I select that it tells me to insert a disc. By fiddling with the usb cord, I can sometimes get the computer to recognize that there is something plugged in, but just as soon it tells me "it is now safe to remove hardware" and that's all I get. Meanwhile, the ipod just freezes on "Do Not Disconnect" and never goes to the "It is now okay to disconnect" screen I guess I'm supposed to get.
This is all incredibly frustrating. Whatever I need the ipod to do, it does the opposite. This ipod has never worked correctly and I've tried restoring and reinstalling and all that stuff with no success whatsoever. Can anybody please help me out?

Yes. Please resubmit. Skype didn't exist until 2003.

I recommend that you always run the latest Skype version: Windows & Mac
