Constant freezing when syncing itunes & ipod

i have been trying to sync my new touch ipod with my itunes ALL DAY and it just keeps freezing and i have to keep force quitting itunes & reconnecting my ipod. i am linking it directly into my laptop, not through a hub.
i have read through many posts on this forum and others which have variously suggested:
= reinstall itunes 7.5 (done that twice, no joy)
= restore ipod touch (done that, same-same -although i did read something that suggested changing timezone to Cupertino USA when doing this - which i haven't done?? anyone??)
= changed 'reset warnings' in right-menu for ipod within itunes - then quit itunes & rebooted ipod (but it happened again 10 minutes later)
= turn off airport (done that, harrumph)
= turn off all internet connections (yep, nothing)
= quit safari (hmmm)
= delete log crash reports (itunes just keeps creating new ones called 'HangReporter' so no difference there)
i am going insane here!! i get somewhere between 2 and 20 songs before it freezes and i have to force quit - i just can't figure it out - and i get different errors all the time. i have even changed around my USB port from 2 to 1 and vice-versa - no dice...
so what is it that is unstable and making ipod so rubbish? i had no problems with my trusty old ipod!
grrrrrrr!
please someone help me before i harm my computer or my ipod!!

well, i've worked it out (i think) - am i right?
my mac only has USB 1.1 and the ipod touch requires 2.0.
i am poor at the moment but someone gave me the ipod for my birthday & then the bose sound dock for christmas (which does not work with the original ipod, only the clickwheel and above are supported) - so i upgraded my poor little laptop to leopard to try and do it (and in the process lost 3 of my applications for which i no longer have the installation disks...system upgrades make fools of us all!)
so --- could this be why i am having such horrific problems with syncing?
i think i might buy a typewriter and a portable radio!!!

When I connect my iPod it seems okay - and transfering Podcasts to it worked fine, but it deleted all my music from the iPod and now iTunes freezes when I try to sync the music back to it.
    Any thoughts???

  • Itunes freezes when syncing with ipod

My itunes is freezing when i try to sync with itunes. Manual management does not cause freezing, but automatic syncing causes it to freeze after five or fewer podcasts / songs are transferred. The ipod is brand new, and ready to use. I've tried all the normal steps, such as reinstalling software, ect. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the response. I have installed, reinstalled the latest itunes, ran the diagnostics, looked through troubleshooting guides and forums before posting on this forum. Aside from Itunes freezing up in automatic syncing, both itunes and ipod seems to run normally.
Could this be a problem with the library or some type of miscellaneous file? Any suggestions?

  • ITunes freezing when syncing to iPod Classic 80 GB

I have had significant problems with songs and audiobooks skipping on my iPod (software version 1.1.2) recently so I decided to try to reset it.  I have done a hard reset and restored it, however, now iTunes (v 10.2.2.12) is freezing while trying to sync to my iPod.  I have already gotten past the point that it asks me to name it and there are a few random songs that have been synced, however, once it syncs for a few moments, iTunes completely stops responding and I have to close it through the task manager.  If I don't close out of it, however, it will eventually give me an error saying that it couldn't sync the specific song it was on and that it is finished syncing (even though there are thousands more waiting to be synced).  The error codes have been -1303 and -69 but I've not been able to find anything relevant.  Can anyone help with this?

  • Since I downloaded iTunes 11, I get a message when syncing my iPod that some of my songs were not copied because they are not authorized on this computer,  I go to Store Authorize This Computer, a message pops up telling me that this computer is already.

Since I downloaded iTunes 11, I get a message when syncing my iPod that some of my songs were not copied because they are not authorized on this computer,  I go to Store> Authorize This Computer, a message pops up telling me that this computer is already.

So I am unclear, did you purchase these songs or import them from a cd?
If you imported them and still have the CD try importing them again and see if they work the delete the others.
Or if you purchased from itunes re-dowwnload and see if they work. Maybe they are corrupted files and this should resove it.

Right click the filename that won't download and selsct 'Get Info'. Look at the file path, does it have a //?// in it? That is a problem with Amazon downloads that prevent iTunes from finding the file. Use 'Add Folder' to add the album to your library and try syncing it again

    Hello WGT52,
It sounds like this error message is preventing you from syncing your content to the iPod. I would recommend the troubleshooting steps in the following article:

You would be better off posting in the iTunes for Windows forum area since your issue is with that rather than an iPod Nano.

  • When syncing my IPOD, all of a sudden my podcasts are not being downloaded to my IPOD. Any Idea's why?

When syncing my Ipod. I now do not get the Podcasts that I have had in the past. They are on my computer but when syncing do not download to the IPOD. Any Idea's?

I have a 4th gen nano that periodically has this problem.  First, try disconnecting it from the car and forcing it to reboot (by pressing and holding the menu and center button simultaneously until the apple logo appears if it is a click wheel version... Sorry, don't know how to do it on the 6G touch nano).  Once it finishes, reconnect it to the car.
If it still does not recognize it (only once out of a dozen or so times has the above not worked on mine), connect the iPod to iTunes and reset the settings and re-sync it, then reconnect to the car.

  • Computer is crashing (freeze) when connecting my iPod Nano

    Hello,
my computer is crashing (freeze) when connecting my iPod Nano. I have a Pentium IV with windows XP Pro. Can anybody help me please.

This came from another thread, but worked for me.  Problem is with newest iTunes 4.62.  Unistall iTunes, as well as its helper programs (Apple Application Support, Apple Mobile Divice Support, and Apple Software Update).  Reboot, and reinstall iTunes.  It will reinstall all the other ones and you should be able to connect your nano.  Good luck.

  • When syncing my ipod touch, the Other category shows it's taking up a lot of space.  What is in Other?

When syncing my iPod Touch, the "Other" category shows it's taking up a large amount of storage space on the device.  What is in the "Other" category, and how do I control what goes into it?

Restore from a backup will get you some 'other' back.
Still not happy, Restore in iTunes, Setup as new. Sync back personal data using iTunes Tabs

    Hi SouthMountainSound,
It sounds like the tracks may be missing from your iTunes library. When tracks in iTunes display a it means the file cannot be located; it may have been moved or deleted. If it cannot be located, this may cause the issue of not being copied to your iPod. For this issue, we will need to refer to the following article:
iTunes: Finding lost media and downloads

Alternatively, if your media was downloaded from the iTunes Store, you may be able to download it again free of charge:

When syncing my ipod it's started to sync music that's "unticked". How do I stop this??

Make sure the Sync only checked songs and videos option is NOT ticked from under the iPod's Summary tab in iTunes.
To access this tab, plug your iPod in and select it from under Devices in the left hand pane of iTunes.  You should now be under the Summary tab.  Be sure to hit the Apply button in the lower right hand corner after making the change to the settings.
