Constant hangs - Firefox is dead if not fixed!!

I have read widely about this subject. No suggestions have worked. I have a vanilla installation with no add-ons or extensions, all anti-virus/firewalls disabled, FF run as admin.
Firefox 16.0.1 is unusable on ws7 (64 bit). It hangs at random. I keep reading that this is a windows problem but FF is the only software causing a problem. I believe FF 16.0.1 has a serious issue and have had to switch to Chrome after having used FF for many years (vs 1.0.4). Sad - but if developers don't listen to user issues the net result is the users will go elsewhere.

This may help anyone seeing this thread with a similar issue - I have a solution which seems to be working which is to run Firefox as an admin in XP service pack 2 compatibility mode: [http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/Make-older-programs-run-in-this-version-of-Windows http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/Make-older-programs-run-in-this-version-of-Windows]
Since doing this the hangs have stopped. I've been writing programs and coding since the late 1970's. It's a real shame that Firefox developers won't recognise the bug there is DEFINITELY a problem!!
My advice if you're having similar issues is to switch to Chrome, lots of the development tools have been ported now. If enough people stop using FF they might showing an interest in fixing it.

  • Since the update to v32 pages will not load in my browser without moving my mouse around the screen! I have already reset firefox. This did not fix the issue.

the details are pretty much the same as the question. I cannot get any content to load without wiggling my mouse across the page that is trying to load. The busy circle just spins and spins but nothing loads without moving the mouse.

i think the best option at the moment is to use the firefox 31 esr version: https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/organizations/all/

  • Earthlink WebMail dead in Firefox after FlashPlayer update, rolling it back did not fix it

On 9/5/12 Adobe Flash player installed and ruined my computer. The main attack was to prevent Earthlink WebMail activity. It comes on screen, but clicking any link or on "Reply" causes the tab to disappear and you're back on your desktop. I rolled Flash Player back to version 10 but the damage was not fixed. Earthlink will not function on Firefox any more.

Have you tried following this troubleshooting page http://support.earthlink.net/articles/email/having-issues-with-webmail.php ?

  • Firefox "hangs up" randomly during use, not for any of the reasons on the "Firefox hangs" article. Help?

I'm running Window 7, on a Dell XPS L501X using an Intel Core i& Processor with a 64-bit OS (trying to give some hardware info, however hardware illiterate I may be.)
This issue started less than a week ago, before I updated to version 6.0.
Firefox would, at random it seems, not respond to user input in the form of clicking, scrolling, what-have-you. when clicked the first time the window (any number of them), would wash-out a bit and get a (Not Responding) added to the title. It will remain like this for 10 second to almost a minute.
I did go through each and every "Firefox hangs" suggestion and none of them fixed the issue.
This happens even when there is nothing being loaded, on websites with nothing TO load really. This has grown increasingly annoying, and the only articles I can find that even address this problem online suggest just switching browsers.
I'd like to avoid that since Firefox is fantastic and, so far, has meet and exceeded all my expectations and made my overall Internet experience so much better.
This issue occurred twice while working on this inquiry.
    Please help.

I checked the add-on manager; Java Deployment Toolkit 7.0.510.13 10.51.2.13 (two separate numbers, but shown on the same line) is set to Ask to Activate, along with a warning to use it with care. However, when I click for More Information I am told that it is blocked without any suggestion for how to unblock it. Java Platform SE 7 U51 10.51.2.13 is set for Always Activate, and there is no prompt for More Information. I recently installed the most recent version of Java; this was when the absolute inablility to use it began (this applies to the NYTimes Chess Player, the Acrostics program, and possibly others; I can still do the Sudoku, although with a warning when I first use it at a particular session). I have checked the articles mention in cor-el's response, but their application to my problem is not clear. On question, however--are the Java versions showing in my add-on manager the most recent ones that I just downloaded? If not, how do I get add-on manager to recognize the most recent versions (which, according to Java, are the only versions on my computer). Thanks for your help.

and dead can u fix this ???

    Try:
iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
If not successful, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store. The smell tends to indicate ahrdware damage.

  • I just got a notice to update my firefox to 4.0 and when I downloaded the new software it indicated: that I can't open the application "Firefox" because it is not supported on this architecture. Any ideas about what might be wrong and how to fix it?

Firefox 4 requires at least OS X 10.5 and an Intel Mac. There is a third party version of Firefox 4 that runs on OS X 10.4/10.5 and PPC Macs, for details see http://www.floodgap.com/software/tenfourfox
If you prefer, you can get the latest version of Firefox 3.6 from http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html

Do a malware check with some malware scanning programs on the Windows computer.<br />
You need to scan with all programs because each program detects different malware.<br />
Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of their databases before doing a scan.<br /><br />

  • Hi . username and password not save in firefox 7.0.1 . please fix it.

hi . username and password not save in firefox 7.0.1 . please fix it.

This is why I'm losing my patience with Firefox. Every few weeks there's another update; which usually auto installs without asking permission. Then I have to go around and find and fix those things that worked in the previous version. Can't you guys do like Apple does and notify us that there's an update, tell us what the changes are and let us decide whether or not we can download and use it? Until this is fixed, I have gone back to version 6.0 and will stay there (unless it auto updates) until you guys get a better way to communicate. If nothing happens, I will go look for another browser...not IE...maybe Chrome or some other.

  • Firefox 4.0 is not working for Vista..error messages regarding Internet Explorer, yahoo, consistently hanging on all websites, facebook, aol, etc.

I updated from 3.6 to 4.0 Firefox. Multiple problems with programs, security, websites, etc. i have Windows Vista on my computer and disabled Internet Explorer. When I turn on my computer i get error messages regarding 3rd party being disabled in IE and I disabled IE so I do not understand i have run scans on my system I need a total clean up as firefox messed up all my settings.

    mixalis88,
I appreciate the suggestion, but that did NOT fix the problem. I, however, HAVE fixed the problem...I now use Google Chrome as my browser.
It may not be perfect, but it correctly displays the websites I visit most, and I dont get that Goddamn annoying re-direct page in Google like I do in FF.
I use to LOVE FF...but until they work out the bugs, I'm done with it.

A possible cause is security software (firewall) that blocks or restricts Firefox without informing you about that, maybe after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox.

Once firefox 4.o was installed, when switching to full screen while watching any internet video produced a white screen but audio still playing. Switching back to small screen has a still video but audio still going. Had to exit and and restart video or open a blank new new tab then delete it and then small screen video would play. Using a mac os 10.5. Disabling hardware acceleration did not fix. went back to firefox 3.6 and all is ok. Any help would be appreciated.

Your hardware was never designed to run that old a version of OS X, it's best to update the application or find another application that is more up to date. Installing Leopard simply will not work on your system.
