Constant Keychain prompts

I work in IT in an enterprise environment at a local university. We have several Apple computer labs on campus, running 20" iMacs with OSX Mavericks 10.9.2 on them.
I have setup Magic Triangle with Open directory and Active directory services for login. I use the Workgroup Manager to mange Group Policies for our Apple Labs.
One thing that is annoying our users out of their minds is the CONSTANT Keychain prompts that keep appearing when a user logs in. Is there a way to permanently disable these through Group Policy or some sort of script? Keychain pops up and prompts for passwords to "Local Items" and "Login" keychains constantly, to the point users are almost discouraged to use the labs.
Any help would be appreciated!!
Thank you,
A Proud IT Lion!

  • Keychain prompts?

    Hi
I've started getting keychain prompts when opening mail app, AirPort net search/connect or safari sites where I have a login.May be a dumb question but is this the expected behaviour?
It's only started sine I changed my keychain pw to be different from my machine login following some advice I saw posted in a recent thread about malware... prior to that the only time I got a keychain pw request was when viewing the detail in a keychain item.
I'm not aware that I changed any other settings when changing the key password. I guess it's not a problem but if this isn't normal behaviour and anyone has any ideas ... ?
    Thanks!

Better to have your keychain and admin password the same or you will continue to be prompted for the keychain password.
If you do not click on unsolicited offers from the net such as the malware (MacDefender) that's making the rounds, you'll be fine. They are scamming for credit card information which has nothing to do with your keychain passwords.

  • I keep getting Keychain prompt when running an app, how to I get rid of it?

I keep getting this prompt running Steam Game PinballArcade with Mac OSX Maverick and I click Always Allow, I navigate in the games menu and keeps prompting for this, driving me nuts!
PinballArcadeSteam wants to use your confidential information stored in "com.farsightstudios.osx.pinballarcadesteam" in your keychain. Do you want to allow access to this item?  "Always Allow" "Deny" "Allow"
Clicking Always Allow it still brings up this prompt... please help me provide a workaround as I'm not getting anywhere with the steam/pinballarcade community support.

I finally resolved on my own... this is what I had to do.
    1. Keychain Access (use spotlight on right to search for it)
    2. Under "Category" select "Passwords"
    3. You will notice about 6 entries "com.farsight...pinballarcadesteam", doublce click each one and change the following: "Allow all applications to access this item" and save changes for all of them.
    4. Launch game and no more annoying prompts!

  • No Airport Access and No Keychain Prompt After Upgrades

I have recently experienced instances where I updated software, e.g., the recent Security Update and a recent Quicktime update. Upon rebooting, the Airport "fan" in the menu bar shows no signal, and I cannot access my Airport network. I have rescanned using the Airport Admin Utility, but it does not recognize the base station.
In the past, after about three hours, I finally get the prompt advising me that Airport needs to access my keychain, and when I authorize it to do so, all is fine. (I am hoping that happens again in a few hours.)
This has happened on both my iMac and my iBook (both running OS 10.3.9). Has anyone else experienced this? Does anyone have any insights about this problem?

I am having a related problem; I intend to post here and in Panther Networking under the "Security Update" problem thread.
I have Panther 10.3.9 on a iMac G5. It is connected to the network via Airport through a Belkin router (connected to a cable modem) using 128-bit WEP. I have 5 users on the computer (one for each family member.) On Friday I Software Updated Security Update 2005-008. Since then, everytime anyone switches to a different user, Airport drops the connection to the router and takes the computer off the network.
I have now logged into each account, connected to the router each time and typed in the 128bit hex password saving to each person's keychain. Now, when people switch to a new user, it still drops the connection but they can point-click re-connect without having to enter the password.
Resetting the Keychain using Keychain First Aid didn't do anything for me but lose the password. I don't see why I should even consider flashing the pram. I am hoping Apple fixes their bug.

  • Date Constant Dashboard Prompt

    Hi,
I would like to know how would you go about creating a Date Constant prompt in Dashboard.
For example : User should be able to select 'LastMonth' or 'LastYear' or 'LastWeek' constant time frame and run a report.
Report query should translate those contant to dates in the prompt.
Example: if user selects 'LastMonth' teh date range shoudl be translating to query ( where DATE between '01/11/2008' and '31/11/2008' )
    Thanks,
    Kopii

    Hi...
To select last month use repository variable Add_months(sysdate, -1) and give variable name. in the same way to.. other last week or last year also...
Now use this variable in writing logical SQL in dashboard prompt...
For second prompt use Logical SQL like,
select date from SA where month = (selected month in prev prompt)

  • Keychain prompt only when needed?

Sometime ago (might have started with Mavericks, but I'm on Yosemite now) the keychain got a lot more annoying. I get prompted to unlock it every time I log in, or even just after the display turns off (not even going fully asleep). And if I set it to lock itself after 5 minutes of inactivity, which seems reasonable, then it just prompts me to unlock it again every 5 minutes, which is not reasonable at all.
I do want it to lock itself when I log out or sleep the computer, but I don't want to have to unlock it until I actually need it. Generally, since I don't want to keep typing passwords, I just Esc out of the prompts and carry on with my business, so the keychain stays locked. But then later when I do want to use the keychain, say because I've visited a login page for a website, it won't prompt me to unlock. I have to manually open and unlock the keychain, and then reload the webpage as well.
    Here's what I want:
Keychain locks automatically on logout, sleep, after inactivity. (This part works already.)
Keychain does NOT prompt me to unlock it just because I logged in, woke the display up, etc. (Much of the time I don't need it, so why bother?)
Keychain DOES prompt me to unlock it when there's something for it to do, e.g. when I visit a login page for a website whose password I've stored. (Now I need it, so it should spring into action like... a springy, active thing.)
Any way to make that happen? It seems like there simply has to be a way to make it less annoying, without just having it unlocked all the time.
    Thanks,
    Tandava

  • Weird constant keychain lock sound?

Since updating to 10.6.7, I'm getting a constant locking sound of keychain. My Keychains are locked and the lock sound kept going on and on for no apparent reason. Removed all keychains and the lock sound persisted. Looked into Activity Monitor, nothing suspicious. My Mac is protected by anti-virus software by the way.
What's up with the locking sound. Can't find a fix by googling. Anyone has any idea on this issue and a possible fix?
    Thanks.

I'm not sure of the cause or solution, but since I replied yesterday, the problem seems to have gone away.
Prior to making the posting when I first heard the sounds I noticed that I had left 1Password (although locked) and Keychain Access running and thought that might have something do to with it. So i quit them, but still had the noises after the screensaver came on. I even rebooted and still had the problem. I'd hear the sound when the screensaver first came on and then periodically after that.
After posting yesterday, I checked settings in System Preferences and Keychain Access that might have to do with keychain locking and unlocking. I didn't see anything unusual and I'm pretty sure that I didn't change anything, but since that time I haven't been hearing the sound. I've even left 1Password and Keychain Access running and the problem hasn't reoccurred.
I don't know if System Preferences or Keychain Access changed something behind the scenes, but it might be worth a try.

  • Turn off Keychain prompts in Safari in Mavericks

My wife uses Safari on an iMac, an iPad, (and rarely on an iPhone), to log in to her company's secure website and submit secure orders. Each order involves entering a different and unqiue credit card number, new names, new addresses, etc. Now that I just upgraded to Mavericks, now each and every time she completes a new order on the iMac, an iCloud Keychain(?) window within Safari always asks if she wants to save this info. Of course, she NEVER wants to save this - in fact, it's illegal to.
She selects the "Never" option every time, yet (I assume) since each and every order uses a new credit card, name, etc, she's asked endlessly, and continues to select never. So, I guess "never" in this case, actually means "always ask with each new card number? (or name or zip or something unknown and unrevealed)."
These 3 devices are all logged in to the same (her) iCloud account.
How can I stop this prompt, forever, and yet, not turn off auto password logins to websites, etc?
    iMac is mid 2010 with OS 10.9 (13A603) with Safari 7.0 (9537.71).
iPad is model MC979LL/A with iOS 7.0.4 (11B554a)

  • Constant registration prompting in iTunes 7.5

    Hi,
Every time I plug in my new iPod classic, the iTunes software prompts me to register the iPod & create an iTunes store account. I've registered it 3 times, twice by the iTunes software and once by the Apple website. It's getting annoying, and I'd like to know how to fix this up. The version of iTunes is 7.5.0.20.
    Thanks,
    Danny TB

Other people have been reporting this.
I think most of them checked the box so they wouldn't have to see the message again.

  • Constant Keychain Error

Every time I try to open a page in safari, I get a pop-up saying a keychain cannot be found to store safari. I tried resetting it to default, but it won't stop. How do I fix it?

This should be an easy fix.
Open the application "Keychain Access" which should be in the Utilities folder which is located in your Applications folder.
Under the top menu item "Keychain Access" , select "Keychain First Aid".
Enter your username and password and select "repair".
Your problem should now be fixed.

  • Constant Credential Prompts

    Hi all,
I've got a Windows 7 Pro SP1 64Bit machine, connected to a SBS2008 domain, which is exhibiting a strange issue.
In the last month or so, one user has complained about being prompted for credentials when opening documents from a mapped drive. Even if he enters the correct credentials, it keeps on prompting, almost like the incorrect credentials have been entered.
The strange thing is, this only happens when Outlook 2010 is open. With Outlook closed, the user can open the documents without any issues, and no credential prompts.
The user can log in to the machine, browse the shares and open documents, providing Outlook is not open.
I've recreated his Windows profile, and the issue appeared to have gone away, but now, two weeks later the issues has reoccurred.
I've tried opening a Word document, and am being prompted for credentials. If I cancel the request, I get a pop-up error saying - "The Internet address 'http://servername/share/docname' is not valid."
As mentioned, I've recreated the user profile, Outlook profile, opened Outlook in safe mode, and disabled all the add-ins, but still have this issue when Outlook is open.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    CheersJéan

It sounds like the user is changing passwords after having had Windows store them for him. Windows will keep trying to connect with the old password, then fail and prompt for the new one. Try clearing out the stored passwords:
In Control Panel click Credential Manager, find the appropriate credentials (Outlook, Windows, possibly others), click the dropdown arrow and then click Remove from Vault.
    Good luck!

  • How to stop constant keychain login requests

I keep getting " Calendar agent wants to use "login" keychain " also with Mail too.
I'm new to Macs but I certainly want to stop this happening constantly.
    Ta for any suggestions.

I have the same problem. I tried to click "reset my default keychain" though, and it said it couldn't obtain access to do that, then the login keychain disappeared totally. I had to do keychain first aid, which added a new empty login keychain, then I tried the "reset default" again, and the login keychain disappeared again.
I know how mine got broken: I forgot the password to get into my MacBook Pro, so I followed some sort of instructions to reset my Mac password.
I got back into the Mac, and everything was just as I left it, but now I'm getting non-stop requests like nross5's that Calendar agent, Mail agent, Safari, Local Items, etc. want to use login keychain.
I've tried doing keychain repair, changing the password, tried reseting to default as suggested by Dib, and I'm still getting these requests. Do you have any recommendations?
    Thanks,
    Mandy

  • Constant Keychain Request Each Time iTunes Opens

Each time iTunes opens up it asks me for the password to my keychain. I don't recall it doing this before. I recently did a clean install of Tiger and brought my PBG4 up to 10.4.10, and re-installed all my apps. I updated to iTunes 7.6.2.
Here's the situation. I use a cron job to open an AppleScript(s) and that AppleScript tells iTunes to open and play a specific play list. It used to work great, for years as a matter of fact.
(Most of my library is composed of CD's of mine I've digitized, songs I've made myself on the computer, and a minimal (~few hundred) songs, I've purchased from the iTunes Store.)
In the AM, energy saver wakes the computer and runs a script to play a playlist of bird songs, I highly recommend it! In the past, after an iTunes update, the lawyer-language dialog would always throw a monkey wrench in the works, if I didn't open up iTunes first and accept the license. (In other words iTunes would open, but the legal mumbo jumbo dialog would halt all iTunes prorgress.)
However, the problem that's occurred the past few days is that EVERY TIME iTunes opens up, and my keychain is locked, iTunes won't do a darn thing until I type in my keychain password and then iTunes does some "phone home" thing. This is totally bogus. EVERY TIME!
I am considering having to downgrade to an earlier version of iTunes to avoid this, since I don't recall it happening before.
Can anyone shed some light on this? Help?
This is a laptop, and I have it set to lock keychains on sleep. I also set keychains to lock after a certain amount of time. This is a bit of a security measure and I won't change it. In the past iTunes NEVER needed to connect to the store during initialization.
Imagine that in order for your clock radio to ring the alarm, or play music in the morning, you had to get up and turn it on yourself, this is what I am facing. Rediculous.
Fix? Work around? Help? Other? Thanks in advance!

    A bit more info...
iTunes is authorized, the computer is authorized.
    And
Even if I hit "cancel" in the Keychain password dialog request, WITHOUT typing in my password, iTunes will play anything from my library, stuff I've bought and my own stuff.
Why is iTunes halting everytime right after it opens with that darn Keychain dialog?!
My goal is for iTunes to work like it used to. To initialize and open up without modal dialogs, and await commands.
What can I do? Downgrade iTunes is the only thing I can think of...
    TIA
