Constant lag spikes in WoW

I'd like to start off by saying im not very tech savvy so im sorry if this has been explained before but i dont really know what im looking for to fix
For about a week or so now i've been experiencing terrible lag spikes, my "world ms" has been ranging from 500 to over 2000, with me often waiting 20 seconds or more for something to happen in game, sometimes i just get disconnected. This only happens in world of warcraft, no other games, and my download and browsing speeds are the same as normal.
Needless to say its terribly frustrating, does anybody know why this is happening? If you need any technical information from me just say so but please be kind enough to tell me how to get it for you

This is what is happening to me, you might want to look at my thread
http://community.bt.com/t5/BB-Speed-Connection-Issues/Packet-loss-High-latency-and-disconnection/td-...
I would also suggest posting a traceroute and pathping to a new thread on the tech support forum on battle.net (best to do it while you are mid-disconnect - there is a guide on how to report latency issues stickied on the forum) and see if anyone has any ideas.
http://eu.battle.net/wow/en/forum/874936/
^ WoW EU tech support forum
https://eu.battle.net/support/en/article/running-a-trace-route
^ This is how to run a WoW traceroute - you need to find out which battlegroup your main server is in to get the right IP address to put in. Hover over the battlegroups on that page to get a server list.
https://eu.battle.net/support/en/article/running-a-pathping-test
^ This is how to run a pathping, similar method as above.
You will need to wait quite some time for both of these to complete, about 5-10 mins each. It is finished when the cursor starts a new line (new command prompt) in the CMD box.
If you follow the instructions properly for both you will instruct your PC to test the route your connection takes to the WoW servers, the time it takes, and the quality of the connection and put them into handy text files which you can then copy/paste to this forum / WoW forums to help diagnose the problem.
As you can see from my thread linked above the data is bounced through quite a few locations before reaching WoW (seen as telia.net servers - they manage WoW's servers in Europe) if the delay/packet loss is at a Telia location it's a WoW problem, if it happens before then it's either your personal connection or a BT issue.
I am interested to know whether this problem is similar to mine- I can't seem to stay online for more than a few minutes at the moment!

  • Constant lag spikes and missing hdd

I bought my intel-based iMac about a year ago and after an unexpected crash my mac won't boot up properly. Sometimes I will see a flashing question mark screen and sometimes I can get OSX to boot, most of the time I'll get to the installation screen and won't see my internal hard drive. When I do get into OSX it'll run fine for 10-15 mins. and then the spinning beach ball will show up if I do ANYTHING (typing a url, launching an app, etc.) and the ball would last 10 mins. sometimes up to 20 mins. I am an unemployed college student and still paying off this iMac, so any low cost suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Forgot to mention I've tried the following:
-Disk utility hard drive test (showed nothing wrong)
    -Repaired permissions
-PRAM reset (sometimes gets OSX to boot)
-Holding C (most of the time the internal hd will now show)
-Holding D (Install disc ejects and flashing question mark appears)

  • Awful lag spikes

why is it that speeds are good, synced at 64 down and 20 up but getting lag spikes every 5 mins, going from 15 to 999, its not constant 999, it will be fine then 10 seconds later 999 then fine again then 999, you get the drift.

spoke on the phone with bt they gave it the all clear but i explained that my girlfriends mum has sky multiroom and that the wiring has been done very poorly and he said an engineer will be out to rewire for only £35, here are some pics these are in order of how its connected

    http://gyazo.com/7e79ffa8a3bf4e923ac0a57bd7a91700
the second part of the cable then goes through the wall and into another filter which then connects to a sky hd box.
now take a look at this image this is the wires that go to the extension socket where the router is connected, at my mums in 2 of the terminals there are wires connected, the third was a bell wire i disconnected over a year ago before she got fibre, now this image is from my girlfriends mums, are these wires supposed to be connected, maybe this is the cause of the drop outs as the extension is only connected by 2 wires of which are not in the terminals.

  • WRT120N - constant lag issue

    Hi,
I have 2 computers, 1 is wired and the other one is wireless and both are having this issue, i already tried to bypass the router and connect the computers directly to the modem and i get a ping of 50-60 while pinging Google, while im facing a constant ping of 800+ if connected to the router, so the problem must be the router.... fyi already tried this:
On your Router setup page change the MTU size to 1350  and then click on the wireless tab and below click on the sub tab "Advance Wireless Settings" and below Change the Beacon Interval to 50 ,Change the Fragmentation Threshold to 2201,Change the RTS Threshold to 2202 and Click on Save Settings...
Also updated the firmware version of the router to the newer one (Ver.1.0.05 (Build 03)), reset the router to factory default using the reset button (pressed for 30 seconds), afterwards i unplugged the power for 30+ seconds and plugged it back, but the problem persist, i have seen other posts of people having lag spikes, but since my lag is constant (have had this issue the whole day) not just spikes, it could be something different maybe, maybe not...
    What else should i do?
    Thanks in advance,
    Josh

The speed is good when you connect the computer directly to the modem.
You have already upgraded the firmware on the router.
Try to re-flash the firmware. After re-flashing the firmware on the router, press and hold the reset button on the router for 30 seconds. Release the reset button and power cycle the router. Now try to reconfigure the router.
    Turn OFF the wireless computer.
Connect the main computer and the modem to the router.
Open the setup page of the router. Change the MTU to 1365. Click on Security tab and uncheck ' Filter anonymous Internet request'. Save the settings. Change the advanced wireless settings. Power cycle the router.
Check the speed on the wired computer only.  If you are getting good speed when only one computer is connected to the router then turn ON the wireless computer. Check the speed when both the computers are connected to the network.

  • Cisco Linksys E1000 - Lag Spike about every 10 seconds.

    Hello,
Hopefully this is the right place to ask such a question. I recently purchased a Cisco Linksys router, as I was having problems with the main connection and my computer. The router works almost fine and acts as a bridge between the original router, and my computer.
I have a Westell Versalink plugged into the DSL phone cord. The Versalink is connected to my Cisco router, and the Cisco router is connected to my computer... All using cables.
    Basically, it's Versalink -> Cisco -> Computer.
It works almost great, except I keep receiving huge lag spikes every 10 seconds, when trying to run something that requires a constant connection. (In my case, a game. It will lag every 10 seconds.)
I'm not sure I setup the Cisco router to properly work the way I want it to, thus the lag.
It used to be far worse, but I setup the PPoP login on the Cisco router independent of the fact that it's already connected on the Versalink.
I need some advice on how to eliminate this lag so I can get a steady and smooth connection.
Before anyone starts giving me Wireless advice, this has NOTHING to do with the Wireless portion, that works fine. (But probably would experience the same lag.)
This is happening regardless, and I need it fixed.
Yet again, I'll type out my layout here:
DSL / Phone -> Versalink -> Cisco Router -> Computer
I believe the problem exists in the Cisco router. I'm amazed that I was even able to get it to work how I did to begin with. However, I need some additional help.
Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!

    Ice Sage,
I would do a little more research on the internet regarding ALL Cisco Linksys routers... the issue you are seeing is normal of thier routers right now.. and one they have not been willing to fix... The Linksys router you have ... in reality is actually the WRT160N with a few tweaks in the firmware... If you look at the specs, the E1000 is not the best router to play your video games with or HD Movies... you really wanted the E3000
BUT .... that also has that same issue as well but more pronounced... as well as over heating... if you take your router off you will see the lag goes away.

Does anything seen here determine what could cause these occasional lag spikes?

  • Macbook Pro 13" Early 2011 Lag Spikes

Okay let me just brief you on my Macbook.
In September 2011 i bought a Macbook Pro 13" Early 2011 model, 4GB RAM, 2.7GHz Processor, you can get the rest on the site.
I bought it as a ex-display model, so you can imagine it already has some milage from it.
Through the (almost) 2 years i've had it, apart from the odd overheat shutdown, and a 1 charger replacement, it's been no hassle, even with me constantly shutting it and moving it. It seems that all the issues are coming in bulk.
I generally use the laptop for gaming, mostly World of Warcraft, sometimes Minecraft, and lately Starcraft, and Spellforce on BOOTCAMP or virtual machines.
About 2 weeks ago, the laptop started refusing to charge, i couldn't understand if it was the charger (as i only replaced it a few months earlier and the cable was still in perfect condition) or the port itself in the laptop. I took my laptop to an Apple store, found it was the Magsafe on the cable, replaced it on the spot, but the reason why i'm saying this is i'm wondering why it broke so quickly, and if lack of power has anything to do with it.
I've grown a liking to Spellforce so instead of having to restart into the Windows side of my Mac, i just use the Virtualbox Virtual OS i already have set up from when i used to work from home and have to use certain software on windows because Wine just couldn't cut it (and lets face it, Mission Control is awesome, then you go on Windows and everything just seems to cluttered). So i read the default specs for the game on Steam (2GB) so i give Virtualbox 2GB, but this was a MAHOOSIVE mistake, because as soon as i clicked start, it's been a down hill spiral.
The computer immediately started lagging, to the point where the laptop was actually unusable, so i force restarted it by pressing down the power button for 5 seconds and i let it restart. After it booted, everything seemed fine (i expected nothing else) so i decided to only give it 1GB of RAM, and just turn down the settings to the lowest possible (which is something i've had to do with World of Warcraft recently. It used to be able to run on Ultra when i first got the laptop, now it struggles on low and if i have a browser up at the same time). Again, big mistake, it lagged to unusability. So i restart again, but this time it takes 5 minutes to boot, and once booted everything is so slow, so i decide to re-install the OS, so i get my flash drive and spend the next hour moving things over from my user folder because when i would try to move a folder that had 5+ files or something that was 100MB or larger, it would error out saying a certain file couldn't be read or written, and would cancel and remove everything else that was transfering at the time.
So i restart but boot into the recovery option, and do a refresh the OS, and i let it download and install. I was surprised to see when it had all completed that it still had all my files, but it still ran slow, not as slow as before but definitely not as good as before, i would estimate at quatre the performance. So i assume that Virtualbox must have editted some system setting and my Mac thinks i only have 2GBs of RAM and not 4GB, so i search on how to reset the bootloader, and i was tried the alt + cmd + r + p, but after that when it booted, it came to the wallpaper but i was getting these popups that Finder had unexpectedly quit, so i click Okay a few times, they keep coming back up, so i look at the details and it says that the app had failed 500+ times before.
So i put my Snow Leopard disk in, use Disk Utility and use erase on my Mac OS partition, then i re-install Snow Leopard, then i download and install Mountain Lion again, but the snails pace remains. I do alittle more research and someone suggested modifying the partition size by a few gigs or so to re-write it and reset certain variables attached, didn't work, even after a reboot.
So yesterday i just put the Snow Leopard disk in, and i remove both partitons (Mac and Windows) and i make one partition. I install Snow Leopard and then Moutain Lion, and so far it appears that everything it back up to speed... however, i've been keeping a keen eye on Activity Moniter and "top" in Terminal, and my CPU usage and RAM usage are always relatively low. I always seem to have 1GB-2GB RAM free, and my Idle CPU always seems to be above 80%-90% but i'm getting these weird lag spikes. I notice it most when i try installing World of Warcraft again, the download speed averages around 3MB/s (my ISP is Virigin Media and i get 60Mbs/s fibre optic so i know it's not my connection failing) and then the app seems to freeze (stops refreshing the average speed, and then about 5-10 seconds later, it starts refreshing again but it's at 12-50KB/s. This also seems to happen a lot when i use web browsers.
I have noticed something new, literally only about 30 minutes before i started writing this. There is a noise that happens every 2-4 seconds, it's pretty regular, it sounds like a grasshopper, or other chirping bug/insect inside my laptop. It sounds like metal scraping against metal, which is worrying. It's coming from the right hand side of the Magic Track Pad, which is where i believe the Hard Drive is. I've looked online and this seems to be a sign that the harddrive is dying.

Yeah, the problem has been solved.
Unfortunately, the solution is buying a new storage device.
So if you're having these issues, i tried almost everything consumer possible, that's free anyway, and the hard drive was just too faulty to work properly. So backup all your stuff whilst you still can.
I bought an SSD for around £80, only 120 gigs of storage, but i have iTunes Match so i don't need to have my films and music downloaded.
If you're very mobile with your laptop, then i suggest getting an SSD. Lugging about a laptop with a storage device with moving parts is very very risky.
As soon as i got a new storage device, everything was back to normal. It was like it was new again.
Anyway, sorry i can't give you a free solution, but it's the only solution i got.

  • Lag spikes during League of Legends

I just got this laptop within the past two weeks. I was looking for a computer that could handle gaming and graphics but could do everything else with a reasonable price tag. I came up on this computer and got it customized and shipped to me. I play games like League of Legends that require a lot of virtual memory and RAM in order to run smoothly. With that being said, I downloaded League of Legends after getting the laptop and started playing a game. After about 10 minutes I started lagging horribly. My FPS dropped down to 4-5. So I did the normal thing everyone recommends. Close down all background apps, make the computer where it conforms to better performance, restarted internet, and restarted computer. After doing all the steps above I once again was playing a game just fine until about 10 minutes into the game my FPS dropped down yet again. This is a repeating error that happens about every other few minutes. I googled if anyone else had this problem and apparently I'm not the only HP user who has this issue. With that being said does anyone know how I could fix these random lag spikes and play a peaceful game of League?
    Yes It's Lulu

    >> I play games like League of Legends that require a lot of virtual memory and RAM in order to run smoothly.
    Hi,
Please check Memory from Task Manager to see available RAM after 10 mins. Please bear in mind, even you have a lot of RAM available but system can only allocae/assign up to the max number. Laptops for games are not cheap, you need to spend at least $2,500 for a laptop to be able to play high end games.
    Regards.

  • WRT400N Lag spikes, similar in time, IP renewing? Please help

Hello, I just recently purchase the WRT400N along with a WMP600N (Dual band PCI wireless card) I am connected to the internet constantly. Never drop my connection, how ever I purchased all this for a single reason-to play world of warcraft.
When I am playing I get a lag spike that lasts a few seconds and happens ever 30-60 seconds. I have tried connecting to both 2.4ghz and 5.0ghz networks and I get the same issue every time. I never had this problem so consitently with my old router and wireless card.
    Any help is much appreciated.
    Speed- 2.4mghz 130mbps
               5.0 mghz 150-252mbps
Singal is High and very high for both networks. Both networks are on a WEP security.

Login to the router setup and click on the Wireless tab and below click on the sub tab "Advance Wireless Settings" and below Change the Beacon Interval to 75,Change the Fragmentation Threshold to 2304,Change the RTS Threshold to 2304 and Click on Save Settings...
You can change this settings for 5GHz and for 2.4GHz...
Now see if you can locate your Wireless Network and attempt to connect...

  • System-wide lag spikes. Possible reasons?

    Hi!
I have been having issues with my iMac for quite some time now and i have never really succeeded to figure out what might be causing it. The profromance of my iMac on regular basis is outstanding as I would expect it to be. How ever, every once in a while i would get an system-wide "lag spike". Everything would frzee for a second or two and the rainbow loading circle pointer would appear. During that time i cannot do absolutely anything besides move the mouse pointer.
This issue, I believe, started to take place after i replaced my HDD with SSDs. I have two raided OCZ Aggility 3 drives. I use the iMacs old HDD as an external storage. The old HDD has been formatted. Also i would like to point out that according to some standard SDD benchmarks i am not getting the performance one would expect from them.
Else than that, my iMac is mid 2010 2,8 ghz i5, i have 12gigs for 1333 DDR3 and im currently running on Mavericks, but i did have this issue on the previous versions as well.
This is my first post ever so please go easy on me. If you feel i havent written or explained enough please do let me know and i will see it corrected.

I've got this problem on Macbook pro (mid 2010, 2,4ghz i5, 8gb ram, nvidia gt330m)
I don't think it ever happened before upgrading to mavericks. But now it's horrible!
It seems to only happen to me when I'm running unity3D, but does happen every minute or even more often. And the system freezes for anywhere between a second and 15 seconds...

  • Severe Lag Spikes - GE70 2PC Apache

    Hello everyone,
I consulted the search function and found out that I'm not alone with this, but sadly there also was no fix for my problem.
I bought the GE70 just recently and am pretty happy with it. It has decent specs and runs every game that I play very smoothly.
    Until I enter online modes.
I get super hard lag spikes from 50-60ms up to nearly 300ms, which is super annoying especially in games like dota2 or any shooter. These lags occur every 2-5 minutes. The MSI support suggested that I should lower my Wi-Fi adapter settings using these options
    Quote
    Dear user,
    1. Update the latest NVIDIA driver from the official MSI website.
    2. Configure the WLAN adapter setting
         1. change HT mode-> Disabled 2. Preferred Band -> 2.4GHz 3. Roaming Aggressiveness -> Lowest
We also suggest router with 802.11n
I did all of the above, but didnt achieve the desired outcome. In fact, it helped a little as it reduced the occurence of lags from every 2-5 minutes to every 5 minutes. Yet, i still believe that there has to be a final solution.
This is what my device manager looks like, after I updated the latest intel wifi & bluetooth drivers:
During all the research I did to find a solution to my problem, I cam up with a great way to test whether the problem is fixed or not.
So for everbody that has this problem and needs to check whether it is solved, after trying something new:
    WinKey + R
    type "cmd"
type "ipconfig" into the cmd window
locate the Standard-Gateway for the connection you're currently using (often times it's 192.168.1.1)
    type "ping 192.168.1.1 -t"
This will ping your router every second or two. If you leave it running for five to ten minutes, you can press Ctrl + Scroll Lock and it will show you some statistics. They look like this (if you have lag spikes)
Anyways, after reading quite a bit, i found out that the issues I'm having might relate to the Killer e2200, unfortunately, i was not able locating neither the newest driver nor the KillerCleaner (both of which are suggested here) and therefore could not try fixing it that way.
I am also suspecting the nvidia geforce experience software to be the cause, but i am not sure.
So here I am guys, trying to solve this problem, since it bugs me a lot. I just want to be able to play any game without these stupid lags. Simply using an ethernet cable is not an option. :(
So yeah, any help is appreciated.
    My Specs:
    GE70 2PC Apache
Win7 64bit Home Premium (free windows 10 upgrade, woohoo :D)
+ the connectivity devices from above
Here, have some more pictures of spikes:
    Edit: Wrong devmgr-pic attached.

Ofc i did. Twice in fact. Although the first support guys were only making wild guesses such as referring to this link https://dragoonarmy.msi.com/home/info/labs/detail/309 which relates to the GT72 and not the GE70 which has no Shift whatsoever.
Then they started talking about the HDDs power saving mode and decreasing the W-Lan-Adapters performance, as quoted above. Not only was nothing related to my problem but in fact completely off topic.
My second experience with the support was just now. They referred me to the same guide you did and which i found myself already.
Now the support dude suggests that i do this:
    - Reinstall Windows and only install SCM (which i believe to be the Steel Series thingy) and nothing else from the driverCD that came with the laptop.
    - then to update the bios and ec firmware (whatever that is)
and if nothing helps i am supposed to sent the laptop for a checkup. which sucks, as i am going to shanghai in a week. so either i reinstall windows. which already sucks. or i contact msi china once i am there. and explain my problem. in chinese. probably xD
Anyways, I don't think a new laptop should be more influenced by electromagnetic intereferences as an old one. since better shielding amirite?^^

  • Very brief lag spikes - please help!

Hello, I was hoping someone could help me with a small problem I'm having.
I've began to notice that I'm getting very brief spikes of lag during internet browsing/gaming/skyping and teamspeak sessions.
It mainly occurs when I use TeamSpeak or Skype. For the most part, everything is fine; however every 10 minutes or so I won't be able to hear anyone else (other users can't hear me either) for a few seconds. It may not sound like a big deal but when it repeatedly happens and I'm trying to have a conversation with someone it can be very annoying indeed. I thought it may have just been a problem with TeamSpeak but I have noticed the exact same problem happens with Skype as well. I also have lag spikes during my gaming sessions.
Does anyone know what could be causing this problem or what I could do to fix it?
    I'd greatly appreciate any help.

  • WRT160N v3 extreme Lag Spikes

Hello, I have a WRT160Nv3 router and I have been getting terrible lag spikes over the last few days, we have 10Mbps cable internet, nothing to fancy but about once every 5-10 minutes it will drop to .4-.5 Mbps for several minutes, When I make a direct connection from modem to my computer i get the full speed I should be getting of about 11Mbps.  The lag persists in both direct connections and wireless.  Please help!!! I've tried reseting to factory defaults and it seemed better for several hours, but now its back to lag spikes, we've had one for about 15 minutes now.

I belive regarding the wired connection , You should reduce the MTU (Maximum transmission unit)  size on the router.. That will help to make a proper communication between the router and the Modem.
Now how to reduce the MTU size :
Get into the setup page of the router ( i.e 192.168.1.1 )
On the very first setup page you will find the option for MTU , Reduce the MTU to 1400.
And regarding the wireless connection , You can try to change the wireless channel on the router
As this router works on 2 different frequency
If you are using 2.4GHZ , change the channel width to 20MHZ only and the wireless channel to 6 , 9 or 11
If you are using 5 GHZ , change the channel width to 20MHZ only and the wireless channel to 149 or 161
    and observe the wireless connection..
