Constant latency spikes

Hey guys,
Most of my use of my Mac is for gaming, as of lately I've been getting latency spikes both in game and on ventrillo. On vent every minute or so my ping jumps from 30's to 120's, it's pretty consistent. I use my computer at two different locations with different ISP's, both on wireless and it's consistent between both places. When I'm in-game I get what seems like memory lag for longer periods of time. I don't know if this issue could be caused by a firefox malware that my friend ran into while borrowing the computer or if its a process sucking up resources or where to even start trying to diagnose and troubleshoot this issue. Please, any help or ideas at all would be greatly appreciated. If any specs or diagnostics are needed please post them.
Thanks in advance for any feedback.

I've pulled up activity monitor while watching my ping on vent and the spikes are consistant there as well, this issue is NOT a problem with the vent server. My buddy and I can put our computers side by side and he has no lag.

  • SWTOR: Latency Spikes Over Wireless

    Hi,
Recently joined up with BT Infinity and very impressed so far with stability/connectivity/speed. I used to play SWTOR and recently started playing the game once more.
However I have noticed that I get extreme latency spikes while playing. I don't loose my Internet connection, that remains stable and constant. However my game play goes like the below:
    Normal: Around 30-60 ms
After 30 minutes or so playing, i noticed it increasing slowly, it will build up to 500/600 ms and then the next second drop down to 30 - 60 ms.
Then it will start rising higher up to 7000/8000 ms until the game server disconnects me, sometimes im lucky and again will drop back to 30 - 60 ms in the blink of an eye, sometimes i lag out and get disconnected.
Has anyone had this before? Is there anything i can adjust on my Hub? (I've got the Home Hub 5) Do i need to phone BT and can they make any line adjustments from there end? Should i log this with EA?
    Thanks in advance
    Daniel

You need to forget using wireless, and either use a direct Ethernet cable, or powerline adapters.
Wireless will always give variable results due to errors cause by interference. These errors force re-transmissions, which will increase the transit time.
You could try a different wireless channel, there is a choice of 13 channels, but you may not find much improvement, as some interference is wideband.

  • T520 Sound Issues...Latency Spikes...SIMPLE SOLUTION !!

    Hello All,
Many of us T520 owners have had problems with skipping/cracking/distorted audio as a result of DPC Latency Spikes. I have been reading every available thread on the topic and I found a simple solution in a T420 thread  that I wanted to share with any T520 users that may have overlooked it.
The Latency Spikes experienced by many users (including myself) were caused by the Ethernet Driver (Intel 82579LM Gigabit Adapter). The current T520 is loaded with Intel driver version 11.12.38.2001. However, if you revert to version 11.12.36.0 the issue disappears. You can download the driver directly from the HP website. (It is no longer available on the Lenovo Support Page)
Thanks again to the original T420 poster and GOOD LUCK!
    Moderator Note: Links fixed.

    Just bought a NEW T520 with nVidia 4200 , i5 , 4GB, 500GB (7K2 rpm)....
Had before Y560p, & resplved problems with that by reversing the bios to an older one, I didn't found it on Lenovo web, but hte guy from Thailand sended it to me on e-mail (he had problems too).
So it was OK but I wanted the best U can buy... & bought T520.... Had a BIG problem on a gig 1st time a used it ...
Music just stopped for a second or two.... big spike in latency monitor (I started it before work)... then I put to OFF WiFi (on the switch - left side). OK for about 45 min, then AGAIN.... I have gone crazy .... bought a double priced laptop & have problems again ??!?!  Is that possible ?!?!?
BTW the drivers on my LAN card are : 11.15.16.0
Anyone know the answer for this ?   Thanks in advance, while I'm reconsidering (not glad about that cose I love the Lenovo brand) buying the Apple Mac Book Pro...

  • Constant latency and dropouts on wireless

I'm writing becuase I think I've exhausted all of the options I can come up with on my end. My problem started several months ago, but seems to be inconsistent. I often get bad latency spikes on wireless on my home network. I have a DOCSIS3 modem with a D-Link DIR645 router. This prolem has persisted through 3 different modems, and 4 different routers. I've checked my modem signal strength on the local network, and it seems to be within the acceptable thresholds on my end. I don't seem to have many problems when I'm wired (i've got a PS4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One direct wired), but I'm primarily using netflix, so I don't know that i'd notice small latency issues or infrequent dropouts. The problem seems to be much worse via wifi - I've been running a ping -t for the past 10 minutes or so, and these are my results:
        Packets: Sent = 2020, Received = 1942, Lost = 78 (3% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 9ms, Maximum = 3817ms, Average = 300ms I'm 20 feet from my router at the most. Signal strength is excellent in the bedroom and den. I've tried switching wifi channels, hopping channels, using static channels.. and nothing seems to resolve it. I do have a few other networks in the area, but nothing extreme (i'm in a 6 unit complex). It seems like if I have multiple things streaming at once (IE: netflix in the bedroom, standard browsing, or maybe some audio streams in the den) the problem gets even worse. I've got a buddy that's a tech that suggested I may have degradation in the lines before it gets to my condo. Every time I've called support I haven't got anywhere, as it looks like the signal is ok on their end. If anyone can help, or point me to a direction where someone had a similar problem, I'd be very appreciative. Thanks,John

I can't help but have exactly the same issue you describe and have done exactly the same things you did and problem persists. Just got the new latest and greatest modem from Comcast which promised to correct the problem. It didn't. It is very frustrating.

  • ACPI.sys, NDIS.sys, and TCPIP.sys causing massive DPC latency spikes

I am running Win 7 Ultimate. I recently reinstalled my OS. Using LatencyMon and DPCLatency checker, I've noticed that these three drivers are causing massive spikes. How do I replace these files with non-problematic files?
(Originally, my computer was on Home Prem, I did an anytime upgrade to Ultimate, this time I did a clean install)
    Thanks.

    Dear all,
I am also doing home recording with my computer, via firewire and I also see latency spikes.
Its for an advanced home user difficult to judge, what is causing issues.
Audio clicks and drops were mainly caused on my (high performance system) by non optimal combination of Firewire Card/Chipset, Windows 7 Firewire driver and driver of the audio Interface, but which I could finally solve.
    My Solution for my system:
    - 1st I had to buy a new firewire card with recommended chipset of audio interface vendor
    - Additionally I had to use the Win7 Firewire "legacy" driver
-> Then my audio clicks and drops went away.
Month later the vendor releases a new version of his Mixer/driver for the audio interface (Saffire mix control).
    And what shall I tell:
    - the normal Win7 firewire driver could be chosen (which seems to be more optimized in terms of latency)
    - under Cubase (with setting "optimize cubase for windows") the firewire latency went down from 200us to even 76-90us on average.
Of course Microsoft shall work on optimizing their OS, I want an optimized OS as good base for everything.
But all my problems went away in terms of recording, at least on my system, when I optimized things around Mircrosoft.
With a Laptop this might be a different issue ..
    LatencyMon v3.0: CONCLUSION
Your system seems to have difficulty handling real-time audio and other tasks. You may experience drop outs, clicks or pops due to buffer underruns. One or more DPC routines belonging to a driver running in your system appear to be executing for too long. At
least one detected problem appears to be network related. You may have to disable wireless adapters to get better results.

  • Dv6 series - DPC latency spikes

I currently have a Dell laptop with frequent DPC latency spikes. As a result, I will be returning the laptop for a new laptop that does not have those spikes.
    http://www.shopping.hp.com/webapp/shopping/product_detail.do?storeName=storefronts&landing=rts_noteb...
This model looks really good, but I have some questions
I was wondering, does any have DPC latency spikes on this system? I don't want to replace my current system for another system with the same problems.

    Bumping this thread.
    Can someone please respond.

  • Northern VA Latency Spikes

Starting last week (around September 19th, 2012) I've had issues with sporadic latency spikes.  It's most noticeable when playing online games, where the latency monitor will show random jumps to over 300 m/s every 10 seconds or so causing a visual "jump" in-game where everything has to catch up.  This happens on both computers that are connected to the network.  We have 25/15 service I believe.
I've had numerous technicians come out and replace my router as well as do repairs on the box on the building, 3 have come in fact, and the manager has called me and told me if they have to come out again I'm going to be charged.  I also worked with several agents over the phone through tech support and they cannot offer a solution either.
Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this problem?  We loved the service until this issue arose but it's getting to the point that we're going to have to switch providers to be rid of it.
Let me know what information I can provide.

Since I am sitting on a class A v4 IP address right now routed from DC to Reston, VA at the farm, you would think things would not be an issue.
So it must be the C/O issue at the local area that sends me to DC and Reston. Sure does not show that way when testing though.
Strange considering from what I would see before, much of the FiOS network is/was run over the UUNET back bone, and then routed to LEVEL3 depending on where it went. UUNET being the old MCI, Now Verizon Business. Which has a very robust backbone from their location out of Northern Virginia. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UUNET
I believe now alternet.com. Verizon Business routers still shown as UUNET.
I have actually been there when it was MCI. I had a server on the UUNET network. Funny results when I ran WlmAdmin on the network before I had my license key on the local server. The security folk did not like it when I tried to hit their news servers. Back when they actually had many of them. Not the same old wild west. DMCA fixed things.

  • DPC Latency Spikes + MSI P55-GD55 + i5-750 + Clipping in playback & record

I'm getting spikes in DPC Latency causing clipping sounds for playback and record using the on-board Realtek.  I have all the latest drivers/bios from nvidia, msi, etc.
    System:
    Windows 7 x64
MSI P55-GD65 @ BIOS 1.3 (Turned off EIST in BIOS, helped but spikes remain)
    Intel i5-750
    OCZ DDR3 4GB @ 7-7-7-21 1.65v
    Nvidia GT220
Have other users mention anything about latency issues with this model?  Maybe a BIOS update like this thread can fix it?
    https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=129152.0
Please, I hope it's a BIOS issue cause I'm lost as to what the problem could be.  I tried disable everything (sound/network) on the board and still latency spikes.

So MSI support gave me a new beta bios to test out v1.4B5, and the spikes are less frequent but still happens.
I can try disabling some services but not sure where to even start.  It does look like a BIOS update might be the actual solution so I'm hoping support can eventually help me out.

    As the title says.
Is there a fix for this? I used to be on O2, paid half of what i'm paying BT now (option 3) and am getting inconsistent performance and half the bandwidth.

  • 6pm and the latency spikes. 10pm and the internet ...

Had this problem for the last three weeks and it is just getting more and more frustrating to stick with BT
EVERY evening at 6pm on the dot the internet grinds to a halt and the latency shoots upto the 500~ mark and continues to fluctuates from 500 to 100 every few seconds. This continues until 10pm on the dot when it gets even worse, latency shoots upto 2k, websites seem to not respond for 10~ seconds, gaming is impossible, steaming is a no go. And its the same EVERY night
I have no issues during the day. I can skype clients, use the internet etc with no issue... but as soon as it hits 6 or 10 the internet dies. I very much doubt it is congestion as its only been an issue over the last few weeks and it fluctuates rather then a constant performance hit. Its a rural area and half the oldies are in bed by 10.
Running the speedtest just shows what I know
    U: 2.15
    D: 0.38

Still using my old homehub, performance loss is the same whether im on laptop, macbook, tablet, phone or PC.
I have swapped over microfilters etc double checked router settings and the only thing I can see it being is BT are doing a poor job of throttling the internet at 'peak' times.

  • P35 and IHC9R audio latency/ spikes

    Hi,
I have a weird problem since buying 3x new hard disks and using RAID 0 for 2x internal disks and an eSATA connnection for the other disk.
Since buying the new hard disks and setting them up, I'm getting audio spikes every 5-10 seconds when playing MP3s or when the PC is generating sounds (like games), using SATA RAID and eSATA through the Intel IHC9 controller, but only when my external HDD is powered off. If i disconnect the eSATA cable or turn the external drive on, the sound returns to normal. It just doesn't like the external drive being connected but powered off.
I have found some threads on Tomshardware detailing a very similar problem on P35 based Gigabyte boards - http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/247210-12-audio-latency-problem-ds3r
    http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/244369-12-gigabyte-ds3r-documenting-issues-audio-stutter-raid
    My setup is:
    Intel C2D E4400
    MSI P35 Neo2 - 1.8 BIOS
    4x 1GB Corsair
    Soundblaster Audigy Platinum
    ATI 3870HD
    2 x 640Gb Western Digital WD6400AAKS - RAID 0
    1 x 1TB Samsung Spinpoint F1 - eSATA
    Windows Vista 64 SP1
All latest drivers where known from MSI and other sites
Does anyone have any similar experiences?
    Thanks

Microsoft has a Hotfix for this laptop to update the USB driver.
There is high CPU usage when a full-speed USB 2.0 audio device is connected to a high-speed hub which is connected to the root hub on a computer that is running Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008, Windows Server 2008 R2 or Windows 7

  • Constant lag spikes in WoW

I'd like to start off by saying im not very tech savvy so im sorry if this has been explained before but i dont really know what im looking for to fix
For about a week or so now i've been experiencing terrible lag spikes, my "world ms" has been ranging from 500 to over 2000, with me often waiting 20 seconds or more for something to happen in game, sometimes i just get disconnected. This only happens in world of warcraft, no other games, and my download and browsing speeds are the same as normal.
Needless to say its terribly frustrating, does anybody know why this is happening? If you need any technical information from me just say so but please be kind enough to tell me how to get it for you

This is what is happening to me, you might want to look at my thread
    http://community.bt.com/t5/BB-Speed-Connection-Issues/Packet-loss-High-latency-and-disconnection/td-...
I would also suggest posting a traceroute and pathping to a new thread on the tech support forum on battle.net (best to do it while you are mid-disconnect - there is a guide on how to report latency issues stickied on the forum) and see if anyone has any ideas.
    http://eu.battle.net/wow/en/forum/874936/
^ WoW EU tech support forum
    https://eu.battle.net/support/en/article/running-a-trace-route
^ This is how to run a WoW traceroute - you need to find out which battlegroup your main server is in to get the right IP address to put in. Hover over the battlegroups on that page to get a server list.
    https://eu.battle.net/support/en/article/running-a-pathping-test
^ This is how to run a pathping, similar method as above.
You will need to wait quite some time for both of these to complete, about 5-10 mins each. It is finished when the cursor starts a new line (new command prompt) in the CMD box.
If you follow the instructions properly for both you will instruct your PC to test the route your connection takes to the WoW servers, the time it takes, and the quality of the connection and put them into handy text files which you can then copy/paste to this forum / WoW forums to help diagnose the problem.
As you can see from my thread linked above the data is bounced through quite a few locations before reaching WoW (seen as telia.net servers - they manage WoW's servers in Europe) if the delay/packet loss is at a Telia location it's a WoW problem, if it happens before then it's either your personal connection or a BT issue.
I am interested to know whether this problem is similar to mine- I can't seem to stay online for more than a few minutes at the moment!

  • EAS 11.1.1.3 Issue with constant CPU spike

    Hi Gurus,
I have EAS 11.1.1.3 installed on a Windows 2003 EE server with 2 quadcore 2.4 GHz CPUs and 32GB RAM. Other components on the server include FR, WA and APS. At least twice a month, I notice in task manager that the EAS process runs at 48% of the total CPUs and the CPU is not released. Once at 48% or so, it continues to run at that level until I restart the service. Under normal condition, it spikes up when there's a transaction and then the CPU level would level down.
We are running WebLogic 9.2 provided by Oracle. I've tried setting the heap size to 512 max and 256 min, but it didn't help. It seemed to have made it crash more often. Currently, the heap size setting is set as the default setting.
    Any suggestion is appreciated. Thanks.

    Hi John,
Thanks for the suggestion. I would have tried forceRegistry as the last option.
But, I figured out that now reg.properties is saved at 2 locations in EPM 11.1.2.3.
    1) EPM_Oracle_Instance/config/foundation/11.1.2.0
    2) EPM_ORACLE_HOME/User_Projects/config/foundation/11.1.2.0
And, to rehost shared services database, reg.properties needs to be deleted from both the locations.
I hope Oracle corrects their documentation. In their EPM 11.1.2.3 deployment options guide, reg.properties isn't mentioned at all.
    Best regards,
    Jayant Sahewal

  • Constant lag spikes and missing hdd

I bought my intel-based iMac about a year ago and after an unexpected crash my mac won't boot up properly. Sometimes I will see a flashing question mark screen and sometimes I can get OSX to boot, most of the time I'll get to the installation screen and won't see my internal hard drive. When I do get into OSX it'll run fine for 10-15 mins. and then the spinning beach ball will show up if I do ANYTHING (typing a url, launching an app, etc.) and the ball would last 10 mins. sometimes up to 20 mins. I am an unemployed college student and still paying off this iMac, so any low cost suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Forgot to mention I've tried the following:
-Disk utility hard drive test (showed nothing wrong)
    -Repaired permissions
-PRAM reset (sometimes gets OSX to boot)
-Holding C (most of the time the internal hd will now show)
-Holding D (Install disc ejects and flashing question mark appears)
