Constant loud piercing beep upon startup when GeForce88000 GT video card installed.

I purchased a 2008 2.8 GHz Mac Pro that has a Quadro FX 1800 Windows video card and Windows 7 installed .
OSX not re-installed yet (I'm trying to get there).
So I installed a GeForce88000 GT video card, which is listed as compatible with this machine for Mac OS, and immediately upon power up, and I mean before I can even pull my finger back out after pushing the button in, the beep starts (and never stops).
This occured when I had both cards installed and when I only had the Mac GeForce88000 GT installed (in that customary first slot).
When I had both cards installed, Windows booted up normally, there was just this unglodly screeeching beep providing a certan "vibe" for the proceedings.
Windows still verifies all 16 GB of RAM.
I tried to search for other posts regarding this issue but came up empty.

Don't care what Nvidia says.
It needs aux power.
All performance PCIe cards need aux power.........
The following photograph shows a comparison to two other cards. The GeForce 8800 GT (left) is about the same size, and also uses a single-slot cooler. The previous generation Radeon X1900 XT (right) is somewhat longer due to its fixing frame. (Note that the cooler on the X1900XT is not the original one, but as the original it's a two-slot cooler). All of these cards need auxiliary power, the power connectors are on the bottom right on each card.

iMac is asking for admin login password upon startup when it never did before, settings are still on auto login. Why is it doing this out of the blue?

Is sounds like it might for some reason booting into Safe Mode, which does prompt for a password.
    Try a PRAM reset:
    Shut down the computer.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.
If that doesn't help, restart holding down the option key which should take you to the startup manager. Select Macintosh HD (you may need to use the arrows on the keyboard if the kb is Bluetooth), tap 'enter'. Does it boot normally now?

  • Startup error with AGP video cards

I have a WInME machine that gives me errors on windows start-up that ask me
to hit ctrl-enter to clear and states that the client did not remain
resident. These only occur when I have an AGP video card installed. I do
have a PCI video card but would like to use it in a different machine. Has
anyone run across anything like this?
    Thanks,
    Craig Yager

I had tried that to no avail. I had also tried uninstalling the video
drivers earlier using the always reliable add/remove programs and got a
message that they had already been uninstalled. Just for grins, I tried it
again a few minutes ago (since it showed back up in the list of programs)
and it uninstalled for real that time. So I restarted, got no novell client
error msgs, re-installed video drivers, and got no error messages on
re-start! So I guess there was some sort of corruption in the video driver
that was causing this whole mess. Anyway, all's well now..thanks for your
    help Barry!

  • 6 Long BIOS beeps after video card install

Hello, i recently bought a HP ENVY h8-1437c, Windows 8, I replaced the (NVIDIA GeForce GT 620) With a (Sapphire HD 7770 1GB GDDR5). I hooked up the 6 pin power and made sure that the card is seated properly multipule times.  On startup I get 6 long beeps along with the power LED flashing. Then a few seconds later the power LED turns blue and the PC starts up fine. The card seems to be working fine as well. I have played games on the max settings with no issues, where as before the GeForce card couldent do this. I was reading across the web that it might have something to do with the BIOS secured boot enabled, so I disabled it with no change, same 6 long beep then the PC starts up fine. I guess my question is, is this okay that it beeps? Is it causing any internal issues? The only things I have done so far are adding the video card software, disabled secure boot (using the old GeForce card to get into BIOS) and reseat the new vid card/6pin power wire. Thanks for the help and let me know if you need more info.
Here is the link for my computer specs just in case.

    Hi raw2000j,
Why do you want to change to Legacy mode?
Tap the ESC key after powering up the PC and then go to computer setup (f10). Now go to the Security topics and select Security Boot Configuration and disable secure boot and finally enable legacy mode.  See the below example:
I see that there is bios update posted for your PC. You might want to consider applying the bios update before making any bios changes.  Check with HP Support to make sure that the bios update is compatible with your particular model since it appears to be posted for a Compaq PC.

  • Chimes, no video, no boot when video card installed.  Cause?

    Dual G5 2.0 (late '04?)
Used for 5 years, then system started suddenly powering off. Eventually wouldn't boot. Tried swapping out ATI X800XT vid card for a 9600 (both AGP) & it worked again for a couple days, then wouldn't boot again. Put it aside for a while, came back to it yesterday, and came to these conclusions:
    1) with X800XT installed, the system (PSU) clicks once, then nothing. no chime, no lights, no fans.
    2) with 9600 installed, it chimes, power light on & steady, fans start, I hear the HDD click once, then nothing. no video out. eventually the fans go into overdrive.
    3) WITHOUT a video card, it chimes, light on, fans OK, and I hear the HDD running through what I assume to be a boot sequence.
    4) I have reset the PMU and replaced the battery. Also tried CMD-CNTL-O-F. Nothing.
Thinking it might be the power supply? Where do I go from here to diagnose the cause?
If it's the logic board, I'll tear out the guts & sell on ebay. If it's the PSU, I've read about someone replacing it with a standard PC ATX supply (don't want to spend the $$ for a G5 PSU.)
    Thanks for any suggestions!

OK, assuming you have file sharing enabled, when you bring the machine up without video card, can you connect to it from another computer on the same LAN?
The fact that either video card blocks the boot is suggestive of maybe a power supply problem, though in my experience an overload condition perceived by the power supply will result in a click from the supply and the machine powering down completely.
That was a situation I had some time ago before replacing the supply. What would happen was that in a non-safe boot, when the kexts for the Ultra6800 loaded, the current draw would increase and the supply would trip itself off. (Puzzling mystery solution revealed just now in formulating the reply. Thanks.)
That being said, the fact that safe boot doesn't help plus the other differential symptoms between the cards really does suggest a failing power supply. A new supply around the web is on the order of $200, but there are plenty of used ones on eBay for much less, occasionally even a new one goes at a bargain.
One thing you could do is blow the probably well-stocked dust supply out of the power supply. Better to remove and do that outside, but you can make something of a dent with the power supply in the enclosure. Just be sure to do it outside, because the dust that can come out will probably be pretty nasty. (Of this I have personal experience!) Of course, under what you have reported, this has a slim chance of actually helping.

  • Mountain Lion change color profile when use discrete video card

Mountain Lion 10.8.2 just installed (new installation).

Someone managed to solve the problem (really)?
I DO NOT ACCEPT COMMENTS OR ANSWERS USELESS.
Sorry, but slightly altering after losing three hours in forums where no one ever answered ...
    Thanks.
    Stefano.

    Let's see...
Sounds like you're running into an expected issue if you make an alias to removeable media.  The same thing would happen if you made the alias to a folder on a DVD-R disc or CD-R.  If you eject the original, you disable the alias.
If you copy the entire SD card volume to your drive, the PRIVATE package should copy across.  Then, as a folder on your hard drive rather than a volume on removeable media, you could make an alias to the STREAM package for quicker access later.
I'm pretty sure that Handbrake, like Prmeiere Pro, can see the MTS files directly.  That is, it's not dependant on the other folders in the PRIVATE directory sturcture.  As such, you could copy the contents of the STREAM package to another folder on your drive.  Just be mindful of the default MTS file names if you're using more than one SD card (you don't want to accidentally copy 00001.MTS from one card over 00001.MTS from another card).
As long as Handbrake sees MTS directly, you could even rename the MTS files after you've copied them.
On a side note, I almost always archive my SD cards with the data structure intact.  More often than not, that file structure is important to corretly access the video stored within that structure.  If something unexpected happens while working with the MTS files, it is good to have the original file structure to go back to.  Although, SD cards are getting to be so low cost that sometimes I just label the SD card and store it for archiving.

  • When to switch video card?

Quick question. I've just bought a MBP 2.4 late 2008 with the dual video chips.
I spend most of my days in Word, Excel, Visio/Omnigraffle etc. and don't play games. I tend to run Windows in Parallels or VMW depending on the app I need.
Given this, I assume then there's little benefit to me switching to the higher performance card other than helping to keep my hands warm?
    Thanks

    Hi Stefan:
A question for you: I have a brand new Macbook Pro (late 2008 model). For some reason, when I have it set to the higher performance video card, certain websites that seem to use a lot of Flash, have problems displaying (the screen flashes randomly in a "building block" fashion), but when I change to the lower performance card the problems disappear. Is this normal, is it some sort of defect and is there anything I can do (firmware update, etc), to fix it?
    Thanks much!

  • 2 beeps -upon startup-Satellite A205-s4639

I recently experienced this problem when I went to startup my laptop it beeps about 2 times with a black screen. I did all the checks, remove battery, pressed power button, plugged power cord, same issues.
    Any assistance would be appreciated.

is that the original hdd?  if so, that may very well be the issue.  if possible, remove the hdd and test it by connecting it to a known working system.  otherwise it may be the motherboard.  not sure it would be worth spending a bunch of $ on.

  • Macbook Aluminium.  Single, long beep upon startup and update to Snow Leopard wont work.

Hi, I recently formatted my late-2008 Macbook and installed Ubuntu.  It didn't work so I formatted again and installed Leopard.  When I boot I get a single long beep.  When I try to update to Snow Leopard and reboot the OS still shows up as 10.5 (Leopard).
It seems to function normally besides all this.  I have not touched the memory in this time and the OS recognises the full 4GB I have inside.  I also did not touch the hardware, this whole problem seems to have been caused by my attempt to install Ubuntu.
    Any help out there?
    Thanks guys.

I have exactly the same problem for some days because I installed Ubuntu 11.04. Thanks God I found a way to fix it:

  • 785GT-E63 constant crash and reboot upon startup.

Hi, I just recently purchased a 785GT-E63 mobo with a Phenom II x4 965. I swapped my old mobo and cpu (nividia mobo +Intel Core 2 duo) with those, and now I can't get into Windows. It posts ok, and then I see the WinXP logo, but it crashes and reboots just as it's about to show the desktop.
I don't think it's a hardware issue because I can boot up into Safe Mode just fine. It just won't finish booting into normal Windows mode. I've already tried a barebones boot (nothing but the hard drive connected + onboard video), and different sticks of RAM with no luck.
    Any ideas?

  • LEGO Mindstorms 2.0 crashes at startup when LabView Signal Express is installed first

When NI Circuit Design Suite Education Edition is installed first in a computer and the LEGO Mindstorms software second, the LEGO Mindstorms software doesn't work, it reports the following:
Error: A required file is broken
Possible Solutions: Reinstall the LEGO Mindstorms NXT Driver  (tried but doesn't work)
    Error code: 1003
    Ordinal not found
The ordinal 18 could not be located in the dynamic link library NIVISV32.dll
    Error loading "fantom.dll"
The operating system can not run %1
On other computers the LEGO software starts running, it displays part of the initial screen and then a small window opens saying that the Mindstorms software has has an error and that it will close. The previous report doesn't show.
If LabView Signal Express is uninstalled and then the LEGO software reinstalled, the LEGO software works.
I've dowloaded and installed new and old versions of the NIVISV32.dll and this doesn't correct the problem. I went as far as version 4.20 of the dll because it is dated in 2007 and the dll file installed by the LEGO software when it works is also dated 2007, but if I install the dll without uninstalling LabView Signal Express, the LEGO software continues not working.
Please advice how to correct this problem without having to uninstall LabView Signal Express first. If the LEGO software is installed first, is LabView Signal Express going to use and not to replace the old 2007 version of the dll installed by the LEGO software? Is there any LEGO software update that corrects this problem?
I repeat: I know a solution is to uninstall LabView Signal Express, install LEGO Mindstorms and then reinstall LabView Signal Express but I have 60 computers already cloned and deployed with this problem, so I don't want to go to this long process to fix the problem. The computers are using Windows 7 and problems happen on both the 32 and 64 bits versions of Windows 7.
    Any ideas???

I couldn't reproduce the error either, but in our x86 computers this problem appeared after several months; we used LEGO Mindstorms last time in Summer 2011 without any problems and just three weeks ago when we were checking the computer for our Summer 2012 classes if when we noticed the problem. I’m still going to try to reproduce the error in an x64 computer where the problem appeared immediately.
Anyway, I’m attaching a word file with images of captured screens where you can see the error reports generated by LEGO Mindstorms and a series of steps uninstalling and reinstalling these program plus LabVIEW, until LEGO Mindstorms finally works after having uninstalled all traces of LabVIEW.
Images can be expanded and zoomed in to a better view of the details and if I can reproduce the problem in an x64 computer I’ll let you know.
Please see if you can find out something based on the images I’m sending.

  • T500 Beeping on Startup

One week ago, my computer (Lenovo ThinkPad T500)  has started beeping upon startup (one long, two short) and will not allow the system to start. I have to shut down and restart a considerable amount of times before the display finally shows up. The odd thing is that it has informed me that this indicates a video problem, and yet I have run diagnostics and the such, and there is nothing wrong. Furthermore, my computer runs perfectly, if not even better than before the beeps started.
This problem is starting to get annoying and I'm afraid that I might irreversibly damage my computer if I keep trying to start it up when it is beeping. How can I fix this?
Thanks for all of your help!

    katrimc, welcome to the forum
according to the Hardware Maintainance Manual, (pdf p. 52), the beep code means that you possibly have a problem with either your System Board, Display or Memory. I suggest removing and reseating your memory, (pdf p. 78 or look here), and if the problem persists to run memtest86 to check your memory. Let it make at least 3 full passes.
If your memory passes and the symptoms still persist you should call support.
Let the forum know how you get on.

  • 6 beeps on startup after replacing graphic card H8-1409

    Hi,
I'm having trouble upgrading the graphic card on the desktop. The power supply comes with the computer is rated 460W and the min requirement for the new graphic card (Asus GTX660 Direct CU II OC) per manufacturer specs is 450W. After I installed the new card (with the additional power cord plugged in), the computer gives me 6 beeps and the screen doesn't show anything. Is it the problem of the power supply? If so would the case be ok to house a different power supply?
    Thank you!

After chaning the BIOS settings I'm able to load windows without any problem thanks for the help regardless!
