Constant Mac Pro crashes with Acrobat 8

It's almost incredible, but my brand new, fresh-installed MacPro is crashing all the time when I run Adobe Acrobat 8. And when I mean crash I mean the whole computer freezes up and gives me a spinning disk. I have never seen a crash like that since System 9 was displaced by System 10. And now it's three times a day or more!! All I can do is hit the power button.
It's a disgrace! No more gloating to PC owners when they complain about their crashes, that's for sure. This is the most expensive computer I've ever bought and I am bitterly disappointed.

Reader or Pro? scanning? what are you doing and what
happens?
Pro. Just going through a document which has plenty of popups. No scanning involved at the moment.
From what I found google:
attempts to make Fujitsu ScanSnap fi-5110EOX2 work
with Acrobat 8.0 professional. My problem has been
that Acrobat 8 corrupts pdf files created by the
ScanSnap during the OCR process. Adobe says the
ScanSnap's pdf engine needs to be updated.

Acrobat requires Intel plugins (there is no option to
run Acrobat 8 under Rosetta

All worked fine until I upgraded to Acrobat 8.0 Pro
for Mac. Scanner works the same but now Acrobat
corrupts the files whenever the program attempts to
OCR the document. The OCR'd document will have a
portion of the page duplicated on the page, forcing
the bottom section of the scan out of existence.
I am not doing OCR
Adobe says this is not a problem on their end and
suggests the scanner pdf engine needs to be updated.
Of course, Fujitsu denies the problem and says they
don't even support the 5110EOX2 for Mac anyway so get
lost.
Fresh installed. So you didn't import or use
Migration Assistant to bring over PPC applications
and support files (data and prefs are safe) from a
PPC Mac.
I did use Migration Assistant to move everything from a PPC mac.
PPC drivers and plug-ins? font issue?
When you freeze like that, do you repair the drive or
just reboot?
I just reboot (holding the power key for some seconds)

I'm finding v8 quite unstable under 10.4.9... It
is nearly useless
yes, I am going to go back to Acrobat 7, which I still have. Let's see.
