Constant password request pop-up!

How can I get an old user ID password request to stop popping up on my iphone? My Apple ID has been successfully changed, but this request, related to an earlier email address, keeps popping up. Any password I try to enter fails, but if I cancel the request the pop-up goes away. This began happening after the latest IOS 6 update. Going into my account with the old user ID in question and requesting the lost password be sent to me produces nothing.

I have found that frequent user ID - password requests are directly related to Game Center.  My recommendation is to go to Game Center, and sign out of it (except when you're using it).  That should help a lot.

  • Constant password requests

    Hi
I recently changed my web host and email provider and since then I have had numerous requests to enter my password in Mail. I enter the password as it is in Account Info in preferences and the password is accepted but why does it keep asking me for the password!
    Any help would be appreciated.

What is your time interval setting for automatically checking for new mail?
If set to every minute, change it to every 5 or 15 minutes.
You should also try running Keychain First Aid on your login keychain via Keychain Access.

  • Constant Password Request!!! Annoying

Apple Mail constantly requests my password despite me checking the "Remember this password in my keychain" option.
Everytime the mail application runs the check mail routine (which is every minute) the dialogue box appears...
Why doesn't the keychain 'remember' the password?
    Cheers

Your Keychain does remember the password. The error message is not accurate as with most other Mail.app error messages except for the error message provided before deleting an account which most people ignore.
This error message usually indicates there is a problem communicating with the incoming mail server.
Why do you need to check for new mail every minute? That is 1,440 times in a 24 hour period. Sorry but I've never understood a need or desire for this or why it is provided as an available option.
Try setting it to every 5 minutes instead to see if this resolves it.

  • Intermittent password request pop-up

Hi, I seem to be experiencing the problem that was occurring end of last year when very regularly the server does not accept a connection and asks for a password. When the password is submitted the pop-up reappears because it thinks the password is incorrect. A day later it can have disappeared and the next day it is back. Seems more of a problem at busy hours. This happens most frequently with the outgoing server as well as the secondary account. Very frustrating! What is the way to get it fixed? many thanks

same problem here for last 12 montyhs on old wireless macbook so switched over to gmail - problem solved.
But now POP ups demanding and rejecting passwords are starting on new iMac with ethernet cable....
could get no connection with BTYahoo for over an hour having my password rejected...
even turned email access to manual only..... then I wondered whether BT could send me an email - so
I registered on Yahoo using the same password (ie it IS correct) and immediately received an email from BT community care forums - so it can work and it would appear all to do with BT workings......
    If this happens again I will consider invoicing BT for time wasting as I can't afford to be kept from my emails;
I am amazed BT hasn't been sued for failing to solve this fault which seems to have been a recurring issue despite BT mediators announcing it is cured, and locking off forums.  So what are our options?  Accidentally cancel our direct debits all at once ? Switch to Orange even with its intermittent signal here, or Sky? Cable? May be there's a helpful technophilic lawyer out there?

  • The Apple ID Password request pops up constantly, I am not purchasing or updating apps, what might cause this to happen?

    What might cause this problem?

You may have an app that is trying to update or download that needs the password to continue... once you enter it it will time out so you don't have to worry about putting it in.
Enter it and it should store it for 15 minute only and after that time you'd need to enter it again to buy something.
Updates do not require password anymore but purchases do

  • Password request keeps popping up in itunes

I know this question has been asked before, but how do you stop the password request for your Apple ID from popping up continuously in iTunes, even after you entered it?

Chances are that you have slightly different 'Artist' labels for those songs.
This could be as simple as 'The Rolling Stones' vs. 'Rolling Stones' or more difficult to spot due to leading or trailing blanks, such as:
' Rolling Stones' or 'Rolling Stones '.
You'll have to figure out your own specific situation.

  • A request for my admin password keeps popping up randomly and a symbol (5 blue circles surrounding a yellow star) will show in the dock. I haven't typed in my password, just keep cancelling it. itg is called finish_installation.

A request for my admin password keeps popping up randomly and a symbol (5 blue circles surrounding a yellow star) will show in the dock. I haven't typed in my password, just keep cancelling it. The file is called "finish_installation". Also icon is very pixelated. It seems very suspect and I am afraid my mac has a virus?!?!?! Any one? Please help.
I can not find this file anywhere on the system after this request shows up!

    Doubtful it's malware ...
Try relaunching the Finder. Press Command + Option + Esc then select Finder in Force Quit window then click Restart.
If that doesn't help, launch the Terminal app located in HD > Applications > Utlities
Copy and paste this command into the Terminal window:
killall Dock then press Return or Enter on your keyboard.
The Dock will disappear for must a moment.
See if that made a difference.

  • TS4002 Password request keeps popping up

My iCloud window asking for my password keeps popping up, it has for several days. I type in the password and then reappears again. I says that my mail account is offline.

Which password are you referring to?

  • Recurring Password request.

I'm trying to help someone with a recurring password request. They are using Mail.app in Tiger to access their Dot Mac/MobileMe mail. They are using POP and the server mail.mac.com.
Here is the scenario: They launch Mail.app, are asked for their Dot Mac/MobileMe password, enter it and it is accepted. Then, about every 15 minutes, they're asked for the password again. Since I don't use Mail.app (I use Thunderbird), I want to confirm a hypothesis: to me it sounds like Mail.app is checking for new mail every 15 minutes and they don't have the password entered in the Mail.app Account settings. An alternate scenario is that they didn't check the box that asks if they want the password saved in their Keychain.
Do either of these possibilities sound right? If not, what else should I ask them to check?
Normally I don't cross-post, but in this case I'm going to post this in the MobileMe forum.

    Greetings,
Cross-posting is a violation of the Terms of Use, so if you value your posting privileges, I'd re-think that idea.
Only if it is blatant; in this case the problem affects BOTH Mac OS 10.4 and MobileMe so 2 posts had to be made.

    Possible.
An alternate scenario is that they didn't check the box that asks if they want the password saved in their Keychain.
Also possible, assuming they have been ignoring that prompt all along.
But there are two other possibilities: their Keychain entry for that account could be corrupted, or MobileMe could be "forgetting" the password that it previously accepted.
I thought about the com.apple.mail.plist, but I forgot about the mobileme plist. Thank you for the reminder.
You should confirm with your own eyes if possible that the first two scenarios aren't true; that would make the third scenario the most likely one, which can be fixed.
Unfortunately, this is a long-distance-via-email assistance.

  • ICloud password request on imac

    Hi Folks,
I am trying to help my 90 year old father and having difficulty figuring out how to stop these pesky iCloud "Password Requests" that pop up whenever he goes to his computer.
I have gone into his Sys Pref > iCloud and un-checked all the boxes = still getting message to enter password.
Have read about a dozen threads on Apple Support forums, to no avail. Quite a few folks are upset with this dilemna.
He has a new iMac, MavericksOS, used to use Mac.com but has discarded that email and the whole account.
Please...can someone out there point me in the right direction? He calls me every few days about this and frankly is driving me a bit bananas. I have tried to tell him to just "ignore" these requests and get on with using his computer, but being that he is 90 and forgetful, he never remembers me giving him this advice.
Thank you for any and all responses and help.
    Adam

Finder -> Go -> Hold down the Option Key (ALT) -> Select Library -> Open the Preferences folder -> Move the file 'com.apple.systempreferences.plist' to the desktop -> Restart your iMac

  • Password keeps popping up

password keeps popping up when surfing internet, playing games, etc.

See if this makes any difference.
Sign out of your account, restart the iPad
Settings>Store>Apple ID. Tap your ID and sign out. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
See if the password request starts popping up again. If it doesn't , then go back to Settings>Store>Sign and then sign in again.

  • Sending email in one account, triggers a password request from another

I have several email accounts operating in MAIL. I have recently noticed that when I send an email in one account, a second account pops up and requests a password. I used to type in the password, but then I thought: has a nasty virus infected my system and somehow, whenever I send emails, they are also secretly being sent somewhere else via this second password-seeking account.
There is nothing in the Outbox for the second account, so I'd like to find out what is going on. Is this an indication of a virus, or has MAIL gone haywire?
I can get around the problem by clicking OK to the password request from the second account (but not having typed anything in), which sends me to a window asking me if I want to use another account to send the email. I select the first account (the one I actually want to use), it asks me for the password, and away it goes.
Thanks in advance for any comments.

    Guy,
You need to provide us with some additional info about the SMTP you are using as the Outgoing Server for each account, and what, if any, relationship that SMTP has to both accounts. The use of the SMTP provided by your ISP, for example, if Authenticated either by Password or by SMTP after POP3 methods, can trigger a password prompt that looks the same as that for the Incoming server of an account provided by that ISP.
    More info, please.

  • Continuous password request

I'm currently running iTunes 8.1.1; I have a great number of Apps from the Appstore that need updating, however ever since I upgraded to version 8.1.0, when I check for new updates iTunes will continually ask for my password.
If I enter my password incorrectly, I will get message telling me so. But when I'm entering my password correctly, it will just pop up with the password request again and again until I finally cancel. I haven't been able to update my Apps in iTunes for weeks.
    Has anyone else experienced this?

Yes. i'm also having this problem. do you use Netbarrier? some folks hadn't checked something in that program if you run it which caused this problem, but i don't use that program and i'm still having this problem. very annoying... still looking for a fix..
