Constant pinging to inform me I am connected to BT...

I downloaded the BT FON app thinking it would be useful when I am travelling.  However it is driving me round the bend as my mobile constantly (every few minutes) pings to alert me that I am connected. Is there a way to switch this off until I need it?  When I am at home, all I need is the automatic connection to my BT hub but that seems to have disappeared.

I get the same thing. I signed up with BT wi-fi with FON yestersday and now an awful bell-type pinging randomly occurs. My wife is furious. I didn't choose it, was not warned of it, was given no option to reject it, nor warned it would happen, nor seen any means to end it. It's another unwanted BT add-on, like having to create a fresh identity every time you do anything BT-connected, like join its forum. Tiresome and needlesly complex. The effect is a bit like putting an old sardine in someone's suit jacket. I imagine BT thinks the stink - or racket in this case - is funny.
Well there is a solution to your annoyance, but it seems that you came here just to have a rant rather than get help. If I'm wrong about that, post a request and you'll get the answer. Probably.

  • More information on configuring node connections.

    In the Netscape Calendar Server Admin Guide chapter on Managing a Node
    Network, there is not sufficient information on configuring SNC connections.
    The example provided shows "all:2" with no information on why 2 is a good number
    for the example case. Other examples demonstrate increasing the number of connections
    for specific nodes with no information on when this is appropriate.
    <P>
    We have configured our network with all:2, but we need documentation that details
    how this number should be determined.
    <p>
    Two connections is the minimum in cases where there is one
    node configured on each server. The unicwsd requires one connection for processing
    of remote node requests and there should be at least one additional connection available
    to be used by the clients.
    <p>
    Depending on how much traffic there is between nodes, two connections
    might not be sufficient. The 'uninode -snc all' output should give you an
    idea if there are not enough connections configured. An example of the output
    follows:
    <p>
    uninode: connected to server1, node 10000
    <br>Last reset: 29/6/99 13:00:51

    <br>----------------------------------------------------------------------------
    <p>In the example above, there are not enough connections available from
    server1 to server4. <b>"US"</b> indicates that there were two connections
    used at the time the uninode -snc all was run. <b>"QUEUE" </b>indicates that
    there is one unieng process currently waiting for a free connection. <b>"CANCEL"
    </b>means that there were x number of processes that did not get a connection, and
    <b>"CHECK"</b> indicates the number of times a process had to retry before the request
    for an snc connection was either granted or canceled. <b>LOST, QUEUE,
    CANCEL, CHECK and GRANTED</b> are values that are reset when the unisncd
    is shut down, or when 'uninode -reset' is run.
    <p>
    <b>Note:</b> In cases where there is more than
    one node configured on one server, the node connections on that server going <b>to</b> the
    other nodes are pooled. That means that any process on that server could use any snc
    connection going to a node. In these cases the number of connections
    configured could even be as low as all:1. Again, this depends on usage,
    and might be subject to fine-tuning.

    Hi,
    you have to enable this additional measurements by executing
    x_cons <dbname> time enable

  • Can ping and use internet, can not connect to ethernet printer on network

    I have been pulling my hair out with this problem, have used proffesional support and not solved the problem to date.
    1) Have Airport Express (6.3) (WEP128, Airtunes, Custom Name, all else default settings) connected via the ethernet port to an existing office network to hub/switch then ADSL modem and PC severs.
    2) Have a PC laptop connected and working (now) without issues, can internet, print to ethernet printer, connect to network drives.
    3) Have G5 mac (10.4.8, no fire-wall), cannot print or connect to printer, can ping printer and use internet, limited connection to network drives (BTW).
    4) Can connect to printer and print when bypassing AX and pluging ethernet direct to G5.
    5) Mac G5 is allocated the first available DHCP address 10.0.1.2 followed by the PC with 10.0.1.3
    Would appreciate any input to this one.

    Black, Welcome to the discussion area!
    The AirPort Express (AX) is creating a separate subnet and this may be causing problems. Configure the AX so that the option to distribute IP addresses is DISABLED.

  • [SOLVED] Ping Error (Network seems to be connected)

    Hello,
    Fairly new Arch user here. Had it installed a while back but it seems this time around something isn't configured right.
    I'm not sure what information is useful for troubleshooting this, but I have no problem providing whatever may be helpful.
    I'm trying to get my wireless connection working.
    I am apparently connected to my wireless network, but when I attempt to ping google.ca/com/etc. I get the error
    ping: unknown host google.ca
    When I try to ping 8.8.8.8 I get the error
    connect: Network unreachable
    I've read through some wireless wiki page info and I've been searching the forums but to be honest I'm a little bit lost for a starting point because I don't understand what's wrong in the first place (I seem to have a connection but can't connect to anything).
    Any and all help is much appreciated.
    Thanks!

  • Ping is ok, but no SSH connection

    Hi everybody,
    I have a problem with SSH connection.
    I have a network, which can be pinged and connected by SSH from my laptop.
    And some other machines (in my subnet)can ping this range of network, but can't connect by SSH.
    No access list restrictions. No closed ports from server side.
    And one thing...
    I've checked bu wireshark, and see that, when this machines try to connect by SSH, there is no request out of its Ethernet interface. Ping is ok, again.
    But they can connect by SSH to other machines, from other subnets.
    Which information do you need to investigate and help with this problem?

    If the original poster is able to SSH to the device from his laptop then this demonstrates that SSH is enabled and seems correctly configured (which rules out one of the most common problems).
    If other devices are able to ping then it seems to demonstrate IP connectivity and correct routing (which rules out another of the common problems).
    I wonder if the problem might involve versions of SSH and what is configured on the device. If the device specifies version 2 (for example) and the original poster is specifying version 2 but the other devices are using version 1 then it would cause these symptoms.
    It would be helpful if the original poster would provide the output of show ip ssh and the configuration of the vty ports. It would be even more helpul if the original poster would provide the complete configuration of the device (with sensitive data masked out).

  • No Ping-Answer in Site-To-Site-Connection between Cisco 876 and CheckPoint-Firewall

    Hello!
    We try to establish a Site-To-Site-IPSec-connection between a Cisco 876 (local site) and a CheckPoint-firewall (remote site). The Cisco 876 is not directly connected to the internet, but is behind a DSL-Router with port-forwarding, forwarding ports 500 and 4500. The running config of the Cisco 876 is appended to this discussion thread. Unfortunately I get no output when debugging the connection with commands "debug crypto isakmp" and "debug crypto ipsec".
    From the Checkpoint-firewall point of view the connection seems to establish, but there is no ping answer.
    The server on the local site that should be reached from the network behind the Checkpoint-firewall has a routing entry "route -P add [inside ip-net remote] 255.255.255.0 [inside ip local]" (see also appended running config for naming of ip-addresses).
    Establishing a Cisco VPN-Client connection to the same Cisco 876 router works fine.
    Any help would be very much appreciated!
    Jakob J. Blaette

    Hi Jakob,
    Adding my two cents here.
    You always need to confirm that the following ports and protocol are opened:
    1- UDP port 500 --> ISAKMP
    2- UDP port 4500 --> NAT-T
    3- Protocol 50 ---> ESP
    A LAN-to-LAN tunnel will never establish a session over TCP, but it could use NAT-T (if behind NAT). Remember that a one-to-one translation is not a port-forwarding, a LAN-to-LAN tunnel does not work well unless you have a one-to-one translation for the NATted device, which I think, in your case is the Router.
    HTH.

  • Information Disclosure in Adobe Connect

    I have a licensed Adobe Connect deployment using Named Organizers in a mixed environment where staff and students have user accounts.  The issue is that when a Named Organizer adds registered users to a meeting room they are shown the email addresses of all registered users as a pick list.  Even worse is that when the meeting invite is sent, all email addresses are sent in the 'To' field.  This presents an issue in that student email addresses are protected information under federal and state laws.
    Are there any registry hacks or a work around that would mask the email addresses from the 'Available Users and Groups' selection window and place any invited participant's email addresses in the BCC field of the system generated invitation emails?
    As I understand the various privacy laws, using Adobe Connect in an education or Health care environment is illegal so long as the email addresses are visible.

    The e-mail address that is shown is the Username, which is the e-mail address by default. If you change the setting to allow anything to be the Username, then that would show instead of the e-mail.
    This can be done at Administration > Users And Groups > Edit Login and Password Policies.
    However this will mean that you will need to update everyone's login to be something other than their e-mail.
    As to the actual e-mail, you may need to reach out to Support to see if there is anything that they know of to change the setting to do a BCC e-mail.

  • Cannot ping pc behind router in vpn connection

    I have set up a vpn tunnel using two wrv200 vpn routers. The lan and wan connection works fine and the tunnel is connected successful between two locations. I can ping the remote wrv200 router from the opposite side. However, I cannot ping remote pcs connected to the router from other side. I can ping the pcs from the router on the same side. Does anyone experience the same problem? Any suggestion or solution to it? Please help!

    windows firewall is disabled on the pcs. I can ping the pcs on the side from the router. If I can ping remote pc from the tunnel, then I shouldn't have any problem with the vpn connection. When I ping remote pc from opposite side through the tunnel, the Request time out message displays. The same to the tracert command.

  • SL requires admin user information before running the connection app?

    SL has been working fine so far. Only problem, whenever I try to connect to the internet via my USB modem SL requires the name and password of admin user account starting the program for connecting to the net. Wasn't this way with 10.5. I am usually not using the admin account just the regular user account for security reasons and would like to continue so. Would be grateful for any suggestions how to solve this problem? Any help??? (... usin a e169)

    Hi,
    FMIS 4.5 does not accept plain text password. Encrypt=false is no longer supported. See here for more information : http://help.adobe.com/en_US/flashmediaserver/configadmin/WS5b3ccc516d4fbf351e63e3d119f2926 bcf-7fed.html#WS5b3ccc516d4fbf351e63e3d119f2926bcf-7e91
    The value for SERVER.ADMIN_PASSWORD needs to be the encrypted string for your password. That should solve your problem.
    Hope this helps.

  • Find out information about current network connection

    Hi,
    I am looking for a library that helps me find out several things about the current network connection, e.g.
    - am I behind a firewall?
    - latency
    - bandwidth
    I know, that the information gathered largely depends on the internet connection of another client or server and may change over time. However, I still need the option to find out... And instead of reinventing the wheel, I asked myself if there was something out there I did not find using search...
    Thank you very much
    Karl

    There is no such thing (at least not that I know of) because it is technically almost impossible to do. As you already mentioned you need some other party you can test with for the different factors. There are things like STUN, though, which can help you find your IP address as it appears to other people on the internet.

    Hi,
    If you have made a backup at any time of your iPod in iTunes, it should be in Preferences, under Devices tab.
    In iTunes
    Open iTunes Preferences.
    From the Preferences window click on the Devices.
    Once you are there you should see a list under "Device Backups:".
    Hover your mouse pointer to the device and in a little while it should display the serial number of the device (with an iPhone it will also display a phone number used with it and the IMEI code and with an iPad it will display the IMEI in addition to the serial number).

  • Some information about 'software caused connection abort'

    WSAECONNABORTED (10053) Software caused connection abort
    A connection abort was caused internal to your host machine. The software caused a connection abort because there is no space on the socket's queue and the socket cannot receive further connections.
    WinSock description: The error can occur when the local network system aborts a connection. This would occur if WinSock aborts an established connection after data retransmission fails (receiver never acknowledges data sent on a datastream socket).
    TCP/IP scenario: A connection will timeout if the local system doesn't receive an (ACK)nowledgement for data sent. It would also timeout if a (FIN)ish TCP packet is not ACK'd (and even if the FIN is ACK'd, it will eventually timeout if a FIN is not returned).
    It seems to happen more with WindowsXP and it seems also to be possibly related to Windows firewall settings. In any case the salient point is that the abort has originated inside the local machine.
    It's a stupidly worded message.

    I know this probably isn't a good solution and may not bhelp you but I had a similar problem with an applet communicating with a server. My destroy function quitted the connection to the server.
    I had to send 2 commands to the server then disconnect. I regularly saw a problem at the server end. It troubled me so I wanted to resolve. I ended up putting a 500 millisecond sleep between the two commands and the socket shutdown and that did the trick.
    I waited for a response from the server after each command sent so not sure why I had to put the sleeps in - but it cured problem anyway. But it always bugs me if I don't know why. Something to come back to when I am less busy.

  • No dhcp information when trying to connect wifi

    My problem is that I can't get a signal to access my home wifi. We have 2 other ipods (same as mine) and they work fine. The network shows up when I go into settings and 'choose a network' but there is no info whatsoever on the DHCP page. I've tried resetting network, switching wifi off and on. The only thing not tried is a full reset. I can connect to other hot spots just not the one at home.

    Problem solved - i was trying to put password into 'other network' instead of the one I was already logged into. Thanks for your help anyway lllaass.
