Constant Restoring Issue
Hello-
I have a 5th gen ipod video. The HD has been replaced with a CF card. The setup has worked for years now. The other day it just randomly said I need to connect to itunes to restore.
Restored it. Put all new songs on, then listen to it again later that day. In mid-song, "please connect to itunes"
So basically it keeps doing this cycle.
I regularly use winamp to copy my music over. With this issue Ive tried using only itunes. No luck.... Replace the CF card with a new, and bought a new logic board...
Any help??
Whats the difference with the 2? I understand the belief of it cause its an apple product, but outside of that, what am I missing?
To be totally honest, I am not 100% positive. It may be that the restore/reformat procedures that are available on both PCs and Macs are a little programmatically different in how they accomplish the task of restoring or reformatting the iPod.
What's important here is that it wouldn't hurt to at least try.

Message was edited by: sscsukltdsorry... can't help, not having these "restore" issues (yet...) and I've done 4- Restore to Backup the past week and two "restore to new Phone" and no issues... other than the fact that with a "Restore to New Phone" my 3rd party data app's are not "recoverable" as with the "restore to backup"

Tivoli/TSAFS.NLM Restore issue
I am trying to restore a server using Tivoli and Storserver on the front end. I keep getting errors( server detecting system error). Storserver/Tivoli said this is a TSAFS.NLM error. I see a Novell TID dated Oct/05 that eludes to this problem( 10099433). The fix does not work. Tivoli is suggesting that this is a known issue with Novell and a fixed TSAFS.NLM should fix the problem. Our current date/version TSAFS.NLM is Aug 14, 2007/6.52.08.
Do we need to update/ back rev this NLM, or is there a specific fix?
Thank you,

You don't say specifically: is it the issue in the TID of not backing up files that have square brackets [] in them? Or a more general problem? You mention getting errors whereas that TID says there are no errors registered, the files with [] just don't back up. So it seems to me likely that TID does not in fact relate to your problem at all.
Also you say the fix in teh TID did not work. What exactly from the TID did you do?
START:
Here is an update of what we did that helped much, but we are still getting errors. This was my e-mail to Novell support:
This is in regards to our Tivoli/Storserve restore issues....
We did as you said as to TID 10089094 and TID 1009433 reloading the NLM
TSAFS with the switch:
/NoConvertUnmappableChrs
This DID help as we were able to restore much more with fewer errors. But we are still getting the errors I explained to you in the original call on many
files.
I ran a restore against two known files that give us these errors from
the original backup dated March 27. I have attached the DEBUG TSAFS log
as per TID 10097645.
END of e-mail to Novell support...But they have escalated to next level as we are still getting SOME errors of the same....I will update this thread as I get more...
NOTE: Intrestingly, we had to restore a second server. Using this switch from the start, we did NOT get any errors...

Ipod 160G constant sync issues
I need help. For oh the last 7 months or so I have been having constant, chronic syncing issues with my Ipod. I used to love this thing to death, now I want to beat it to death.
At purely random times when I sync my Ipod I will get the infamous -50 error code. Which then freezes the sync process, which then wipes out my Ipod. I restore it, make a new playlist, and GUARANTEED somewhere in the first 5000 songs or so, it will hiccup during a sync, freeze the itunes, empty the freaking Ipod. Contrary to what I've read on here, it isn't always songs I've burned. It can be a podcast, a song I bought from Itunes, or one I burned from my CDs. It can happen a few days or a few weeks after I do the restore, rename, new playlist trick. I have 24000 songs and it's getting way beyond tedious trying to get to the letter E in my collection. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.Yay, found the source for this problem which drove me nuts. Just had to copy the songs (which caused the issues) from the iTunes folder into an other. Was quite easy, just drag'n'drop the songs into that other folder and let iTunes find them.
-> Problem solved, sync works as intended! -
Time Machine Restore Issues - Apps Unexpectedly Quitting
I have a 2009 iMac 21.5" 3.06 Ghz 8GB of RAM using 10.6.8
Recently my original Seagate Hard Drive started to fail (S.M.A.R.T. status: Failing). Luckily I caught it in time, had time machine back ups, and bought and installed new Hard Drive (WD WD1002FAEX) and restored my installation to the last Time Machine backup. (Dealing with the fan speed and noice, but that is a seperate issue)
Everything seems to have worked fine, but I am experiencing issues with Mail, Dashboard and Software Update unexpectedly quitting, when I use them.
Mail opened and imported all my mailboxes and info properly (it appears) but when I click on an email to view it, it quits giving me a crash report.
I have verified and repaired permissions and reset PRAM.
What else could I do to fix this issue?
Thanks,
RyanHere is the Crash Report I get if that helps:

IPhone 4 in constant Restore mode - how can I get it back?
I have an iPhone 4 running the atest version of iOS5 with the update from a few days ago as well as the newest version of iTunes from two days ago. I was working two hours from home today and I shut down the phone. When I tried to restart it an hour later, I got the screen telling me to plug my phone into my computer and iTunes. The phone is synced to my desktop, so no luck with that. I borrowed another person's MacBook and cord and tried to sync it, but since there was no internet connection it wouldn't do anything. I was without my phone the rest of the day. After work I found the nearest Apple store and took the phone in. the guy in the store told me the phone was locked in Recovery mode and needed to be restored. I needed to call my wife so I had him restore the phone in the store so the phone would work, even if I lost all my settings. Phone tools worked fine on the drive home, and I was able to reset my email to check in as well. However, once I got home I tried to sync the phone to my desktop and restore the settings from my latest backup & sync (last night), I noticed that once the restore was finished, all my purchased apps were gone from the phone, my folders were all rearranged and empty or missing, and the only message I could get on iTunes was that my phone needed to be restored again. I've tried restoring it from my backup three times, and at completion each time the only possible option I'm given is either to restore it using the backup or set it up as a new phone. All my apps are still in my app folder on iTunes, but I am given NO option at all to check any other information on the phone. It simply tells me that the computer has been synced to another device (which it hasn't) and that I can either set it up as a new phone or restore it from the backup, which just starts the cycle over again.
The guy at the Apple store said that it was possible that the firmware had been corrupted, or some other problem, and that I may need ot get a new phone. It's out of warranty and I didn't buy AppleCare (last time I'll make that mistake - it's paid for itself with all my computers), so I cannot afford to buy a new phone at $700 a pop. I'm still running OSX 10.6.8 on my desktop, not quite ready to upgrade to Lion for many reasons. Does anyone have any ideas about glitches between the new iOS5 update and the latest iTunes 10.5.1? I know there have been issues with the iOS5 update anyway.I ended up doing the exact same thing and was just as surprised when it worked. Seems backwards and counterintuitive, and it's probably a big glitch somewhere in iOS5 and/or iTunes, but it did work.
Now, however, I have a new problem. I have a Bluetooth-enabled Garmin nuvi 2360 GPS I use in my car for hands-free calling with the iPhone. Never had any problems with connecting until after the restore last night. Now, even tho the iPhone is discoverable and attempts to connect, it always fails. Anyone know if there are issues with the Bluetooth capabilities of the phone with iOS5? I'm almost paranoid to try and sync the phone or shut it down again in case it craps out again. May take it to the Apple Store, but I've got a feeling they'll either tell me there's nothing they can do or that I have to buy a new phone, and I just can't do it right now. -
i wonder is anyone can help.
after having my iPad 2 for 3 years with no problems, suddenly it just got stuck on the Apple logo and would not charge up. Aftear assuming I had somehow damaged the mains port, I took it to an iexpert who took a look and diagnosed a software issue. He took it back to basics and I took iPad home to sync with iTunes, being confident that iCloud would do its job and restore all my bits and bobs.
so .. My issues
IPad wouldn't recognise my password so eventually updated password via security questions , still didn't recognise, updated again - all good.
Then plugged it into iTunes on computer and logged in using my iTunes AppleID ( I have 3 and blame the Apple Genius in Manchester !!!)
Firstly it brought up the initial Apple Id , from an old email, which the Genius suggested I didn't change as wouldn't be using .... Issue 1. - I have most of my Apps either downloaded or purchased on this old account which I cannot locate as I do not know the password and even when I go through the 'forgot password' option - it does not recognise my date of birth and I am stuck as I can't ask it to send me an email to an account that no longer exits. I am only concerned about 1 app which I paid around £7 which has artwork stored on it for my work, which I cannot access.
issue 2 - finally logged in with latest Apple ID ( set up when purchased 6+) after password fight (above) I left it to restore for about an hour. It took longer than an hour but it seemed to have finished, apart from the fact that most of the Apps we still faded and could not be accessed. I assumed they were still loading but in fact it was quicker to delete and reinstall most, as they were free ones. Then went to take a look at backup status on iCloud and it says as it's currently being restored, it won't back-up until compete. I have no idea why it said it had completed , when actually it's still doing it or not. I seem to have all my emails and photos and it's still saying the download is 7gb, so I know the info is available ... It's just not 'finished'
i Have no idea what to do next, should I plug back into iTunes ?
so.... 1. Any Idea how to access the one app I have paid for on old Apple if and has stored info on and 2. How can I ensure that the iPad has finished restoring ?
APologies for waffling, it's quite difficult to explain in writing .. Any help greatly appreciatedAn option ( and not a bad one) if you aren't too comfortable with tech stuff is to go dow to the Apple Store. They have outstanding customer service. Did the upgrade seem to complete successfully, or did this error come up sometime before it ended? You might also look at this kBase article...though again if you are close to an Apple Store, they are great to work with.

Fusion drive and backup/restore issues
Hi,
since I installed a fusion drive on my early 2008 iMac, consisting of an internal 256GB SSD and an (external FW800) 320GB hard disk, I occassionally run into trouble when system updates are pending. In the past, at worst the time machine backup couldn't be restored and I had to reformat and reinstall the system from scratch - which is not really comfortable!
Currently, running Mountain Lion, when I try to select the startup disk, it complains that Boot-Caches on the Boot-Helper-Partition cannot be created. Nevertheless the system starts fine (and runs fast ;-).
Before upgrading to Mavericks, I would like to know
- if someone else ran into similar problems with fusion drives, when updating/upgrading system software.
- Is it normal that a Time Machine backup cannot be (completely) restore a Fusion drive?
Yes, I know that having the harddisk part of a fusion drive externally is not recommended/supported by Apple - and my Mac is nearly 6 years old, but that would not explain why system updates/restores nearly always fail and sometimes the Time Machine backup drive has a broken file system (needed reformatting)! And I always checked the disks with Disk Utility prior to updating...
Any comments are appreciated. You can file feedback here. The more who file the more the faster the issues may be fixed.
Also you shoud look on the CCC forums. -

I got a new iphone this morning at 1030 am and it has been restoring from icloud backup for almost 10 hours now. Is something happening here or does it take this long?
I am having the same issue! I received my new iPhone 6 plus from atnt yesterday at 10am ... activated it and asked phone to restore from my sprint iPhone5s backup at 10:30 am. It is now 2:17pm the next day and most of the apps that are incomplete are still incomplete right now. What can I do to fix this or do I have to just wait?
-
The camera function wont open and connect to the lens it just closes again with showing any error, do I need to restore the I Pad or is it a hardware issue
ThanksBefore you go restoring the iPad, try this first. Close the camera app and reboot the iPad.
Tap the home button once. Then tap the home button twice and the recents tray will appear at the bottom of the screen. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner of the camera app icon. Tap the home button.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up. -
Newbie Automatic restore issues
Hi:
I have two issues with a program I am working on to do an automated restore, The restore takes a backup from production, and replaces the database entirely every day so we have offloaded current information: I avoid logical names because we don't want a
database named production:
FIRST ISSUE:
I would like to be able to drop the database. When I drop it interactively, I always click the box close existing connections: The problem is what to do with an interactive connection: Is there any way with an automated restore replace to intrinsically drop
the database? Although it's not something you normally want to do, it is something in this case that I HAVE to do to ensure the restore works and the with moves move the correctly named files.
SECOND ISSUE
When I run the following statement:
USE [coll18_FinAidNoHR]
DBCC SHRINKFILE (N'coll18_production_log' , 0, TRUNCATEONLY)
GO
I get the following error:
Cannot shrink log file 2 (coll18_production_log) because the logical log file located at the end of the file is in use.
(1 row(s) affected)
DBCC execution completed. If DBCC printed error messages, contact your system administrator.
Is there any way to work around this without programming? As for question 2-thanks for all the info on DBCC SHRINKFILE I think the best decision is to do it as needed. The
Restore is a knottier problem. I can't to a restore replace because I want to change the file names. I can't have the logical names.
I run a prestep before my restore that does this common stuff:
if exists (select * from sys.sysdatabases where name = 'FinAidNoHR')
EXEC msdb.dbo.sp_delete_database_backuphistory @database_name = N'FinAidNoHR'
if exists (select * from sys.sysdatabases where name = 'FinAidNoHR')
ALTER DATABASE [FinAidNoHR] SET SINGLE_USER WITH ROLLBACK IMMEDIATE
if exists (select * from sys.sysdatabases where name = 'FinAidNoHR')
drop DATABASE [FinAidNoHR];
The restore step fails with this error:
Executed as user: CAMPUS\UCCTD10_SQL. Exclusive access could not be obtained because the database is in use. [SQLSTATE 42000] (Error 3101)
When I run an SP_WHO it DOES show the database open in a sleeping state on a remote machine that did not shut down the instance, but this DROP should have had the effect of an interactive drop with close existing connections checked.
When I did other tests like selecting top 1000 rows from another test database,SP_WHO shows it open in the same way but the DROP works fine.
Before I tear out what little hair I have left, can anybody tell me why it would not drop the connection?

HT1267 Iphone restoration issue
Hi
I was restoring my iphone via itune and the restoration was not completed due to incomplete disk space. I cleared the disk space and restarted itune. When I tried to syn it again, I received this error message: this iphone cannot be used because apple mobile service not started. How to resolve this issue?
Regards
KenMake sure you've got atleast 2-3GB space on the hard drive of the computer where your operating system is installed.
Download the latest version of iTunes : http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
After installing, try restoring the iPhone once again
This should solve your issue! -
RSA1 - Source system(R3 - BI) restore issue
HI Everyone,
I am trying to restore my source system(R3) from BI from RSA1. iam getting some error.
Error:
Source system cannot use any of the proposed connection names
Message no. RSAR362
Diagnosis
Every connection to a source system is named using a unique two-digit identifier. Source system SAPSQ1 does not accept any of the proposed values.
The last proposed value was BA.
System Response
Source system has not been connected.
Procedure
If you want to recreate the source system from BI information, then you can only use a single value, namely BA, because the connection already has this name in BI.
Delete the existing connections in the source system or contact a BI consultant.
I checked the table RSBASIDOC also. The Target BI logical system is not present. CHecked the partner profile & IDOC Ports also.
RFC connection is also working fine
We recently performed R3 system refresh
please help me resolve this issue since its a critical issue which neds to be resolved immediately
thanks & Regards,
SivaIf you have done system refresh then to restore the connections you have to follow the below note as per your scenario
Note 886102 - System Landscape Copy for SAP NetWeaver BW
Only then the connection can be restored -
hello,
today I woke up to find my phone (iPhone 3Gs) was not working correctly; my internet and other features would not function along with other issues. I figured a simple fix was to restart my phone so I did so. when I turned the phone back on it showed up with a picture of a usb cable and a disk saying I needed to plug the phone into iTunes.
I did so and nothing happened so I tried to restore my phone to the factory settings but for some reason it wont allow me to do so. it gave me an error (3149) and told me an unexpected error had occurred.
Any help with this issue would be appreciated.Try it on another computer or check if you have a firewall blocking accessing Apple servers.
http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1275
Error 3000-3999: (3002, 3004, 3013, 3014, 3164, 3194, and so on) Error codes in the 3000 range generally mean that iTunes cannot contact the gs.apple.com server on ports 80 or 443. This may be because out-of-date or incorrectly configured security or firewall software is interfering, an entry in your hosts file redirecting requests to gs.apple.com, or due to your Internet proxy settings. If you are using a proxy, try without using one or with a known-good network. If that does not resolve the issue, follow iTunes for Windows: Troubleshooting security software issues. Error 3014 may indicate that you need to free up more disk space on the computer before trying to restore again.
