Constant router restarts

Me again... My profile problems are hopefully behind me, but the problem is now that my connection keeps resetting. In the last 4 hours it has done it 6 times, which is worrying.
Loss of Signal (Local/Remote):6 / 0
Are there any primary causes of this? Its very annoying.
Thanks

Well, I have a theory on why this is happening. My Downstream speed is constantly saying "6655 kbps" , and there are a steady number of restarts associated with this. However occasionally it will drop down to about 3000 ish, and then the connection is often stable for days. Never lasts, as the router then restarts again and hops up to 6655 again...

Is there any help that I can get ? When I try and download things, the router restarts and I have to start the download all over again. This can happen 3 or 4 times before I finally get the file, and its a helluva lot of wasted bandwidth.
Its also very annoying for general browsing, although I am quite used to the "api.home" messages. I could probably recite some of the spiel on them I've seen them so often...

  • Unable to connect after modem and router restart

    Hi Everybody
Some times i don't get any internet connection from my cable modem (Motorola 5100 surfboard). In such cases, Time Warner cable recommends restarting the modem. I am connected to the internet in the following sequence:
Cable Modem --> Router --> PC
    The way it should work:
    Switch off the router
    Switch off the cable modem
Restart the cable modem (all the lights should be on)
    Restart the router
    Connected to the Internet!
However, things don't work this way. If I connect the PC to the cable modem directly after the modem restart, I am able to get online
If I try to connect with the router in the middle, I get no connection. Usually, I have to follow this sequence (instead of the one above):
    Switch off the cable modem
Re-set the Linksys router (loose all my settings)
    Switch off the router
Restart the cable modem (all the lights should be on)
    Restart the router
    Connected to the Internet!
Re-configure the router manually to get back my previous settings
Need your help to figure out why a simple re-start of the modem and router (in that sequence) doesn't work and I have to re-set the router to get on-line
One more thing - I backed up my router configuration (Administration --> Config Management --> Backup) and after getting online, restored it. Thought It would work, but no luck. Couldn't connect via the router. Had to follow the above sequence (again) to get online and then manually had to re-configure all router settings
    Rourter - WRT54G. Version 2
    Firmware version - v4.21.1
Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks

    Step should be :
    1) Shutdown the computer.
    2) Unplug the Broadband modem’s power cable and wait for 30 seconds.
    3) Unplug the router’s power cable and wait for 30 seconds.
    4) Plug in the Broadband modem’s power cable and wait for its lights to appear stable.
    5) Plug in the router's power cable once the modem’s lights appear stable.
    6) Power on the computer on and test the Internet connection.

  • Fios Router Restarting!

Hi, I have been a Verizon customer for about 2 years and I have (with in the past few months) been encountering a problem with my router restarting. This is extremely annoying with the fact of playing games online and the internet just shutting off like it has nothing better to do. I have done everything for thing problem to stop, in fact, I am on my third router I have had them send me and the problem is still going on! My last opinion would to be to switch service providers if I can not permanently solve this! I don't know what is wrong and I would love some help to fix this! If anyone actually reads this and wants more info on what exactly happens, just say so. Thanks!

  • Survey - Router restarting/Speed dropping

It seems a few posts are now popping up on here about unscheduled router restarts and speed drops.
What Version Hub are people running - is there a connection here? It seems a common problem and helping to diagnose a common problem may help.....
    Home Hub V2 w/Type B here.

I got Infinity installed a few weeks ago, and until yesterday I got 74.8mpbs download speed consistently on pretty much every test I did.
Now, I cannot get over 50mpbs. I've powered off the modem and the hh3 and all my pieces of equipment that use the net, I left it for 5 minutes and powered back on my modem, hh3, and my PC (wired connection).
My speed is still only 50mbps. I don't want to sound greedy and I know lots of people would love to get 50mpbs, but a drop from 75 to 50 is basically losing a third of my download speed.
I hate BT teech support with a passion, they were the reason I left BT 5 years ago. I'm starting to regret signing back up with them already.

  • Server crashes after router restarts, different routers, same result!

    Hello team,
I've had this problem before, and it's getting really annoying.
Every time I restart my router, my server will crash. It's almost always the case. I don't know why. It's not my router, I have tried 3 different routers. I thought maybe my RAM was faulty, that's not the case either.
    Any thoughts?
    p.s.
my server always assigns its own DNS address to my clients, so when the server crashes, the clients are left without internet. How can I stop this from happening?
    setup: Server 2012 Essentials R2, 2 GB RAM, AMD X2 3800+ CPU.
edit: this is the dump file it generates. I just restarted my router again, and exact same scenario:

  • "No longer connected to the Internet" until router restarted

I've been running a G4 Quicksilver with OSX Tiger on a BT Internet Home Hub router for some time now, years in fact, with no trouble. I also run a Windows PC from the same router using Ethernet connection for both.
Yesterday I disconnected the ethernet cable from the Mac to update a child's laptop and when I plugged it back in again I got the message "your computer is no longer connected to the Internet". I ran network diagnostics to find the router was apparently not working, but built-in ethernet was, and restarted the router as requested. The connection ran perfectly all evening but this morning on restart - same message. The PC is running perfectly, hence this message can be posted.
I reloaded the BT software from the installation disc and got a good connection, but the first time the Mac went to sleep, I had lost it again. The connection seems to be lost everytime the Mac is restarted or goes to sleep, but if I manually reset the router I get a "connection successful" message. Last time I got the message I ran Network Diagnostics and was given a choice of locations: automatic or BTHomeHub. On BT all indicators were red; on automatic it is green as far as network settings and ISP, but red for Internet or Server. My net connection is broadband, 512k max and the PC connects and runs perfectly. I don't understand why the Mac has suddenly changed and why it won't connect.
I've just changed the location to BTHomeHub and got green lights on all but Internet - even the server light is green, but it says internet (failed).
    I'm lost, can anyone help???

    Thanks Henry, just tried that.
When I try to access the Internet I get the page header, but the page itself no longer loads - eventually I'll get the "not connected " message.
If I run Network from system preferences it tells me I am connected and gives my IP address.
If I move to the "ethernet" column on Network Diagnostics the network status lights are green for built-in ethernet, network settings and ISP - but red for Internet and server. The message now states "your internet connection appears to be working perfectly"
It can't be the internet as here I am posting on my PC, so it must be the Mac, but I don't understand how I can be connected to my ISP, but not the Internet....

  • Services stop at restart, router restart or randomly

On 10.7.2 Server DHCP, DNS, Netboot, Web and Open Directory services stop (as seen in Server Admin/Server.app) and are unable to be restarted. If I try to restart them I don't get an error message, but the indicator resolutely remains grey (instead of green).
I can make this problem happen by:
    restarting the server
restarting the switch/router that runs the whole school
    It also happens pseudo randomly.
To fix the problem I need to:
Unplug the main router and our internet ADSL box
    Shut down the Server
    Cuss.
    Plug the main router/switch in
    Plug in the internet box
Wait for a minute or so
    Turn on the server
This is far, far less than ideal. I'm happy to grab error messages from console if that helps - but give me an indication for what service you'd like it from.
Perhaps you can tell me if this is a conflict somewhere - a bug, or something I can fix. It's driving me crazy.
    Cheers,
    Glen.

    Hi Fabrizio,
why do you want to reboot your server every sunday?????
If you reboot your SAP this often, you'll have performance problems every Monday. All
of your SAP internal Buffers must be filled again after an reboot. If your DB is on the
same Host, also your DB Buffer is empty.
If this is an productive System, i highly recommend you that you not reboot your SAP System this often....
(By side, thats the difference between an *nix and an Windows System.).
What is the reason for doing that?

  • Mac + parallels and https site test = router restarts

Ok I have an interesting & very frustrating problem happening. I'm going to explain it the best I can.
I work as a graphic designer & web designer on a mac and have a Comcast internet connection that comes through a Comcast branded router (SMC8014) which then ties into an Airport Extreme Base Station which runs my office network. I run OS 10.5.7 and also run Parallels 4.0.3 (running Windows XP) for testing websites in Internet Explorer and so on.
Ok, so that the basic background. Here's my issue.
I've been collaborating an ecommerce website with another designer/developer and when testing the site on the PC side we have started to run into some sort of network problem. The site is https if that matters at all I suspect it may. Basically when I run parallels for testing I am constantly having to restart the router in order to connect to the test site (it's hosted). Funny thing is I can access the rest of the internet fine, just not this site I'm working on until I restart the router (It's sorta like the site is timing out). This never happens when just running the Mac side of things. It only becomes an issue when Parallels is open and I am doing page refreshes while making css or HTML edits via something like Coda or CSS edit (connected to the hosting server via ftp). The real problem is that once the problem starts I only get about 2 or 3 page loads before I have to restart the router again. It's absolutely crippling. I cannot get any work done when I have to restart the router every couple of minutes.
So, if you think this problem is isolated to me, the answer is no. The designer/developer I'm collaborating with has an office a couple miles away and experiences very similar problems under slightly different setup. He also has Comcast as his internet provider and connects his router to an Airport and primarily works on a mac. The main difference is that rather than using a visualizer like parallels to test the website on the PC he uses a real live PC that is on his network. Once he fire up the PC to do testing he runs into the same issue described above. After a couple of page refreshes in Internet Explorer or other browser on the PC the site becomes unresponsive and the router has to get restarted.
Any thoughts on what is going on here would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.

  • Cisco 2611 loosing configuration after router restart

    Hello,
I have a router at a customer that looses its configuration after a restart.
I of course made a write mem, and it looks like this has been before.
Is there anything to check (hard/soft) befoire changing the router?
    thanks in advance
    Pierre Barrat

Check to see the configuration register value. You can do that by issuing the command 'show version'. At the bottom of the output of the command you will see the config-register value. Under normal circumstances this value should be 0x2102. If you see something like 0x2142 it means that the router is going to ignore the start-up configuration.
If the config-register value is indeed incorrect then you need to change it to 0x2102 by:
    Router# copy start run
    Router# config t
    Router(config)# config-register 0x2102
    Router(config)# exit
    Router# wr mem
    Router# reload
After the reload it should come up with the right config; that is if the problem was indeed with the configuration register.

  • Wlan router restarts when streaming music to Airport express

    Hi guys,
Yesterday I received my brand new Airport express which I plan to use for streaming music from iTunes to my Stereo. Unpacking and installing the lovely looking AE was like x-mas eve and birthday all in one .
After the installation where I set up the AE to join my wireless network. My wlan is a WEP 64 bit encrypted one, I had some problems adding it to the network with the wizard of the AE tool, but this worked just fine after using the manual set-up procedure instead where I chose WEP 40 bit in the AE tool. I also upgraded AE firmware as a part of this process.
So, the AE pops up nicely in iTunes, and I started streaming music to them, and it worked perfectly... for 10 seconds. Then the music stopped, the play-bar in iTunes stopped, and I also noticed that my laptop (Acer laptop running Windows Vista) lost the internet connection.
After some investigations where I switched off volume adjustment on remote speakers in iTunes and reseting and re-installing the AE, I noticed that the reasons for the problems seems to my wlan router re-booted whenever I started streaming music to the AE. My wlan router is a Zyxel Prestige 660, and it has worked flawlessly for the last two years. The AE is connected to the network, it gets an IP address, and it shows up just fine in the IP list on the router, that is before it restarts... And once the router re-starts the logs are gone, so it's not possible to see what's happening in that end.
Has anyone ever experienced the same? What can the root cause be? Changing the wlan encryption is unfortunately not an option since the router is pre-programmed from my ISP. I'm considering changing my modem, but I'm reluctant to spending 150 bucks on a new modem if this may not resolve the issue.
Any comments or suggestions would be highly appreciated.

Part 2: The mystic restart of the router was solved through changing to a Thompson Speedtouch 780 (luckily my ISP sent me a new wlan router and I didn't even have to pay).
However, the problem with the music breaking up when streaming from iTunes to the AE remains; The stream is broken after just a few seconds, and it also seems to mess up other internet traffic on my laptop . I've tried with the AE in a number of different locations, even 1 meter away from my laptop - nothing works.
As it is now, the AE is useless. What a disappointment .

  • Wreg54g lost connection after router restart

Hi everibody! i need your help if anybody can help me...Recently somebody helped me and installed my Wreg54g.after some time, i had to restart my router so i can connect my phone(it had to be directly to the router..so i had to restart it). after this operation, my range expander lost connection.one light blue, one red..so i pressed that button auto configuration, both lights turned blue, but still i don't have full signal on my comp.what did i do wrong, how can i fix it?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I believe the settings on the range extender had been messed up so much that you press the AUTO Configuration button when you tried to reconnect though that is understandable. What I suggest is you make sure that the wireless internet is working okay through the router then on the WRE54G, configure the wireless settings again manually (without running the set up CD) the same with the router's. Check on the articles below to guide you in setting up the extender manually. By the way, reset first the extender before doing the reconfiguration.

  • Airport Express - yellow blinking after router restart

    Hi - I have a question.
I have a DSL modem incl. WLAN router. This router/modem a) established the internet connection, and b) provides a WLAN. Also I have an Airport Express using the WLAN of the router (so AE does not establish an own/separate WLAN). Everything works fine, until the router either restarts, or has to reconnect to the internet for whatever reason. Then the AE starts blinking yellow, and I have do disconnect the AE from power. After restarting the AE, it goes immediately to green and everything is fine again ... until the next time that the router gets disconnected from the internet.
I have already tried both DHCP and static in AE config menu, and the router also assigns always the same IP address to the AE.
    Any idea?
    Thanks for your help!!
    Chris

I just use it for streaming music from iTunes/iPhone to my amplifier.
For configuration I so far only use the available iPhone app ... and to be honest in this tool I cannot see a configuration "switch" for router or bridge. It is connected to the internet via the DSL router (e.g. firmware updates can be made), but it does not provide an own/separate WLAN. To obtain the IP address, I have used both DHCP & static mode (as I have advised the router to always assign the same IP address to the AE).
Not sure if that answers your question. If not, any hint where I can find the things you are asking for?

My router keeps restarting every few hours for no apparent reason, my DSL connection rate on the bt broadband speed test is 3648kbps(down) and 448kbps(up) but because the router keeps restarting my IP Profile for the line hasn't increased from 500kbps and my download speed is 480kbps. • My router restarts only with my macbook

    Hello there,
I am having trouble with my macbook restarting my router each time I want to use the internet.
but when using my android tab or Windows desktop, it's don't have the issue...
    Any having the issue?
The problem only occurred recently, which had never done it before BT updated the firmware on the router.
My router is a BT hub 3
I am thinking BT had gone either anti Apple or sort lol.

Firmware is always an iffy thing, and should only be upgraded when you verify it works with all the systems in question.  Once upgraded it is difficult to near impossible to downgrade.   I would contact BT and let them know of your issue.
