Constant skipping in itunes 7

i just recently downloaded itunes 7, and i started listening to music on it. i noticed that every few seconds a song skips or stops, or sounds like a broken record or something. It is very frustrating and that i cannot listen to my music peacefully. I cannot even get through a song any more. Please someone help me if they know anything about itunes 7 and if it has some weird glitch where it does this

Finally! I read everything on this forum and others. I was going mad with the annoying "stuttering and skipping" which for me came as a half second or so pause a few times every song. Didn't have the problem on version 6. Running a PC with windows XP -plenty of memory, speed, etc - at least plenty for this application. I updated drivers, defragged, used registry cleaners, stopped all the un-necessary start-up programs, changed itunes settings, playback and hardware acceleration. Everything that I have seen posted on the web to no avail. ( I didn't try the windows re-install, for me, that is whack!) Also, like others, I do not have this problem with win-amp, musicmatch, WMP, etc -only the itunes 7 builds.
So, here was my solutiuon. I figured it was a conflict with my sound chipset or drivers. My sound was built into a high-end intel motherboard. It uses optical, digital, and analog outs. I put in a relatively cheap $35 soundblaster Audigy SE card and the skipping and stuttering is finally GONE!!!!
So,if all else is fails, you might try changing your sound card. For me $35 was less painful than spending a weekend rebuilding all my application set on a new XP install. Hope this helps someone out there.

  • ITunes Match No Unlimited Skips on iTunes Radio

I just updated my Macbook Pro to OS X 10.9.3, and now I can't get anymore unlimited skips on iTunes radio. I have iTunes match, and am logged in on my computer. Did iTunes remove the unlimited skips with iTunes radio for Match subscribers? Or is there anything I can do to get my unlimited skips back? Thanks!

This topic has actually been discussed on this forum. Contrary to some reports in the tech media, having an iTunes Match subscription never allowed unlimited skips when using iTunes Radio.

  • When skipping songs, itunes saves the spot it was skipped at.

When skipping songs, itunes saves the spot it was skipped at. So if I skip song A at 1:00, next time song A comes up in shuffle it plays from 1:00, not 0:00. How do I fix this?

That is a settable option for each song. Right-click, Get Info, and on the Options tab, uncheck "Remember playback position."
You can also highlight a bunch of tracks, or your whole music library, and change this option for all of them at once.

  • My songs skip in itunes on my computer what can i do?

My songs are skipping in itunes on my computer only what can I do?

The only time I've had this happen was when I left a song on repeat1 for a long time.  I would notice the skipping and some popping/hissing after about 50 or more replays.  Rebooting always took care of that problem for me.

  • Music is skipping in iTunes 7.0.1.8

Ever since I upgraded from iTunes 7.0something-or-other to 7.0.1.8, I've heard an intense amount of skips in music playback.
I've tried reinstalling my sound card drivers with no luck, iTunes doesn't seem to be eating up any more CPU or memory than it usually does, and I've tried closing all other applications.
Is this a known issue with a resolution? Can't seem to find any answers anywhere. Needless to say, I'm quite frustrated

I don't know if this will help you, but I was having the same problem in the earlier version of iTunes 7.0. The advice was to turn down my sound card hardware acceleration. This actually did work.
The latest "patch/upgrade" allowed me to turn my sound card acceleration back up with no problems, but you may have a different sound card that is just now impacted. To try this "fix"--go to your control panel click on sounds and audio devices. Then find the Audio tab and click on it. Next select sound playback. Then click on the advanced tab. Finally under hardware acceleration, move the slider from full down two notches to basic.
See if this solves the choppy sound problem. When you download the next iTunes version or patch try resetting your sound hardware acceleration to full and see if it's okay (finally).

  • What is the definition of "plays" and/or "skips" in iTunes (version 10.5.3)?

    Hi all,
I'm trying to "clean out" my iTunes library by deleting songs I never listen to, and maybe organizing playlists of songs I listen to more often than others.  I don't know the technical/offical terms, but there is the "toolbar" that shows artist/track/album/length etc., with options to add or remove categories such as plays/skips/genre and so on... My QUESTION is:  What is the definition of a "play" or a "skip?"  That is, are they tallied according to how many seconds a track is played before skipping (or continuing)?  If anyone can answer this, that would be awesome!
PS.  Secondary question:  if the plays/skips are determined by a specific time limit, is there a way to change that time?  For example, if a skip is defined by clicking "next" before the track has reached 0:05 seconds, can I change that number to 0:03 or 0:10?
    Thanks so much!

I agree Luciu, I want to see the official docs for this too anyone know where they are?
My understanding is that anytime you press skip *on your ipod* (not in iTunes while playing). This would appear to disadvantage songs with very long slow outros - as you might want to skip these to get to the next song. This would mean songs with long slow or hidden track outros would accrue additional skip counts.
Perhaps Apple could ignore skips that are within 20 or 30 seconds of the ending to avoid that but yeah some docs would be nice to see.
I use smart playlists to create playlists that do not contain any songs that have been skipped in the past 12 months. That suggests a timestamp is logged with each skip also.

  • Audio playback stuttering/skipping randomly itunes 10.1 mac 10.6.5

Having issues with playback on my mac since installing 10.1.
It seems to glitch a track randomly and skips a second of song or something.
7% of my CPU is in use and ive got nearly 4gig of ram free. itunes library is about 32 gig bit its never been an issue before.
Is this a known issue in 10.1 itunes?

the forums are full of discussions about this issue.today i suddenly had the same problem.stuttering music.i tried the following to solve the problem, and so far it seems to work for me:throw out all the music from your itunes player, but keep the files in the library.re-import the music you want to listen to from the library now,and see if it solves the problem for you, too.

  • Random skipping of iTunes tracks

My music has been playing fine for months, and now, several tracks now skip at certain points. :22 seconds in, the next :10 seconds. Sometimes it skips to a new song all together, sometimes it just skips ahead in the song, almost like a scratched CD might have done. It just flickers ahead, maybe only by one second. But its annoying, and its been getting worse. These tracks used to play perfectly. Using iTunes 6.0. Any ideas??

It is difficult to sort out random crashes especially if they are not frequent.

  • Strange backwards skipping in iTunes.

Hey everyone. I've been having this bizarre problem with my iTunes. Ever since I had this desktop, iTunes has always been a little off. When I go to play a song, the song is completely skipped over and then iTunes proceeds to go backwards through my entire library, skipping every song until it reaches the end (or rather, the beginning of the library).
I have uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes several times, I have the latest version, and my Windows is completely up to date. I have searched long and hard through the vast reaches of the internet and I have yet to encounter a similar problem.
Edit: I forgot to mention that the songs play TOTALLY normally when another window is selected.
Does anybody have any clues as to what in Odin's mighty beard is going on?

It is possible that you have a corrupt iTunes library file.
Try this: Make sure that iTunes is closed and then in Windows Explorer, go to C:\Users\Username\Music\iTunes\Previous iTunes Library and move the files to your recycle bin. If you permenently delete them then there is no chance of recovering any playlists. Now when you restart iTunes, it will create a new library file with the current date (i.e. iTunes Library 2011-01-18.itl). You will then have to readd the songs to iTunes by locating the music directory if iTunes does not find it automatically. This usually happens if you do not have your songs saved in the default location. If you need to locate the songs, go to file, click on add folder to library, and then locate the top folder where your music is stored (i.e. f:\Music).

  • How do I skip upgrading itunes? I used to have an option, now I can't get past the upgrade for free screen!

I have been trying to access the itunes store for a week now but can not get past the screen to upgrade for free.  I do not want to upgrade, I tried but can not install the free upgrade because I am using 10.2.2.  I do not want to upgrade I just want to get to the itunes store... how do I get past this screen?  There used to be an option to skip the upgrade.

I have an iMac G5 with a pre-Intel processor.  My current OS is 10.4.1.  When I open my iTunes store function, I get an upgrade to iTunes 10.5 page that does not allow me the opportunity to refuse the recommended upgrade and I don't want it because my processor is not the Intel processor.  I can't get past this page to access the iTunes store.  I can't find iTunes 9.2.1 online to download, if that is the only solution.  I can't believe Apple is forcing me to purchase a new iMac in order to continue using iTunes on my current iMac.  I'd like a good answer and solution to this problem.

  • Problems with songs skipping in ITunes Library

I recently transferred my Itunes from an old PC based computer to a new PC based laptop (GateWay M Series - Windows Vista). After that I upgraded to Itunes 8.1. I am now experiencing the problem with songs in my Library skipping after about 5 seconds into the song. I have my library sorted alphabetically, sometimes after the 5 seconds it skips down 10-15 songs before it lands on one that it plays all the way through. In one instance it played all the way through on 3 songs from the same album - only to start skipping after 5 seconds into the 4th song. It doesn't happen on every song. There doesn't seem to be a rhyme or reason to the types of songs this happens with - some of them were purchased songs, some were from CDs. I tried uninstalling the Library and then reinstalling - figuring that my library was corrupted. But - it is still doing it - only now it is doing it on different songs than before. Again no rhyme or reason. Has anyone else experienced this? Any ideas on what I can do to fix this!! My husband and son were able to transfer their libraries from the old PC to their new PC laptops and they haven't had this problem with their libraries!

Similar problem here, running OS X 10.5.6 and iTunes 8.1.1. Any suggestions?

  • Videos skipping in itunes (Resolved)

Videos skipped on my powerbook but not on my macbook, it frustrated me for months, then I remembered that I has 'volume logic' installed on my powerbook but not on my macbook as 'volume logic' was not available for intel macs until just recently.
Anyway as I had bought an ipod and mac speaker I had no need for the volume enhancer so I deleted it from library/itunes/itunes plugins/ and bingo smooth videos
You can't imagine how happy I am
Hope this helps anyone else with the same problem

When playing music or videos, make sure all of your system resources are available. (Dont' run any other programs)

  • Audio stuttering/ skipping in iTunes 10.1.1.4

Updated the software, now audio is skipping ONLY when played through iTunes. Tried all the suggested fixes, uninstalled iT and qT twice and reinstalled, still have the problem. Anyone run into the same problem or have a potential solution?
    Thanks! Oh, running WinXP sp3

    Hi,
I have a similar problem with music files 'stuttering' or 'jittering' and it's particularly noticeable during quieter tracks. Almost sounds like crackles or pops in the background.
The interesting thing is that I played the same problematic files on the same machine using Windows Media Player and they were rock steady perfect!? Suggests to me an issue with the iTunes software. I was similarly tempted to reinstall iTunes and the audio drivers, but I see this didn't help another friend here with the same problem.
Th eproblem has come about since I transferred all music to my new computer running Windows 7 64 bit and wonder if there is an issue with the latest iTunes 64 bit version software??
    Any thoughts/advice please? Regards.

  • Audio Skipping in iTunes

I have been experiencing this problem for quite some time now. When I listen to music files either purchased from iTunes or directly uploaded from a CD onto iTunes, the audio skips. It is as if a second has been taken out of the song -- for instance, a song may jump from 22 to 24 seconds. It is never in the same place, and the number of times it happens per song varies.
This problem does not occur with files downloaded from other sources and played on iTunes. It only happens with the ones that are encoded by iTunes as AAC audio files.
Does anyone know if there is some type of troubleshooting I can perform to see if my computer is having a problem playing AAC audio files?? I am extremely perplexed by this, and no one has been able to help me thus far. Please someone help!
