Constant stop start writes to disk

After a little exploration it turns out this this process:
/usr/lib/firefox/plugin-container /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/libflashplayer.so -greomni /usr/lib/firefox/omni.jar 1375 plugin
Is making constant on off writes to my disk usually less than 100Kb. I hear the heads start, then stop, then start, on and on every 2-3 seconds and I'm worried it is causing unnecessary wear. I'm not exactly sure why it's acting this way. Do I turn it off? Change some settings?
Firefox also tends to make a lot of small writes as well.

you could disable or update the flash plugin, use gnash, or use flashblock or something similar

R7870-2GD5T/OC fan constant stop and start in idle

Hello,
I have an R7870-2GD5T/OC and I have the following problem with it:
When the Windows7 turn off the screen after x minutes idle time, the VGA card cool off, and turn off the fans completely. However, 0,5 seconds after the turning off he realize the card is too hot, and turning back the fans. However, after 2 seconds he realize the card is cool off and turn off the fans completely. So on.
This continues until the computer goin' to sleep, or the screen turn back.
The problem is the noise. The spinning fans are ok, the stopped fans are ok too, but this constant stopping-starting make a noise like boyracers at the red sign, very annoying.
I installed the MSI softwares, first checked the firmware update, but there is no update for the firmware. I tried to set the fan speed with the Afterburner software, and set to manually to keep the fans in working even at minimum temperature, but is didn't help. When the screen turn off, the VGA card goin to mad.
There is any solution for this? (behind the workaround to never turn off the screen)
This is an Intel i5 config, with 64 bit windows7.

As GPUs can operate at quite high temps, have you tried setting your min fan speed, i.e. where the fans stop spinning to be maintained up to 60C and only then start increasing the fan speed from there?
What kind of other ventilation have you got in your machine? Have you got a fan on the side panel that can blow onto the GPU?
Does your GPU not have a switch to toggle between normal and LN2 settings?
If all fails, ask MSI technical if they have a different VBIOS for your card that prevents the fans from stopping at all.

"Can't read from or write to disk...." iPod error

I recently switched from my old PowerBook G4 (running Leopard 10.5.2) to a newer MacBook Pro (running Leopard 10.5.5). I migrated my account and permissions from the PB to the MacBook Pro, and everything is working just fine except for iTunes (version 8.0.2) and my older 160 GB iPod Classic (running 1.1.2).
NOTE: THE VERSION OF iTunes ON THE PB WAS VERSION 8.0.1.
Since the migration, I've been getting this "can't read from or write to disk..." error whenever I attempt to sync my iPod to iTunes. Previously, I'd never had any problems. I have tried to restore the iPod using iTunes - didn't work. I have tried different USB to dock connector cables - didn't work. I have even tried completely re-formatting the iPod using Disk Utility - didn't work. Everytime I begin syncing the iPod, it starts out just fine. At varying degrees of completion it ALWAYS fails with the same error.
I had an idea. I tried syncing the iPod to a different computer - my G5 4 x 2.5 GHz (running Leopard 10.5.5) with iTunes (version 8.0.2). I still got the same error. I haven't dropped it, submerged it in water or done anything to it that would otherwise compromise its functionality. So, I'm at a loss.
PLEASE! PLEASE! PLEASE!
Does anyone have any other suggestions? - OTHER THAN BUYING A NEW IPOD

OK, after the visit to my Genius Bar; I thought of a variable that wasn't previously considered. Because their transfer of media was successful without the slightest hitch, I had to figure out something else.
Everytime I had tried to sync the iPod with my various Macs, I was using the same process. Since all of my music and movies "live" on an external 500 GB drive, I was attempting to use that same drive whenever I would try to sync. It occurred to me that possibly the failing was in the drive and not the iPod.
I have part of that library on a Power Mac G4 867 DP (running 10.4.9). I updated the iTunes on that machine to 8.0.2, connected the iPod and made a successful transfer of a large amount of media!
My only problem now is that I can't figure out how to get the 500 GB drive to stop hanging on transfer and update of my Genius information. The drive just completely stalls and I get the spinning wheel from iTunes and the application ceases to respond. When I force quit iTunes, the drive recovers fine. I don't have any problems transferring data to and from it and Disk Utility reports that the drive is healthy.
I have tried re-installing iTunes on all affected Macs - didn't help. I believe my problem may exist in the iTunes Library file or in the associated .xml document. My only concern is that if I do a completely fresh install of iTunes where those files would be re-created, I would lose all of my play and ratings data as well as the information about when my files were added. On a related note, when playing the music from this drive through iTunes. I don't have any issues at all.
ANY SUGGESTIONS?

Stop to write to listener.log !! why ???

Hi,
Since the listener.log grows so quick and becomes large (~10M) , i zip it and create
another blank listener.log in the same location. However, the server stops to write to the log!!!!!!!
Could anybody tell me why ???
(ps. i set the same permission as before and
the owner is the dbadm)

what do you mean by 'create another blank listener.log'? this file is automatically generated by the server, so if you ziped it, a new "listener.log" will be created next time the listener is started or stopped.
try to stop/start your listener see what happend.

Hi minutemantechs - welcome to the forum!
This is not a limitation imposed by iMovie. Check your external drive's format - it must be Mac OS Extended. Yours is probably formatted for PCs. Note that re-formatting will clear everything stored on the drive. re-format via Applications>Utilities>Disk Utility.

Can't Write to Disk Error (-69)

I have windows XP, and an iPod 30gb photo. OUt of the blue it stopped copying files to the iPod and gives the message cannot write to disk with the error (-69).
I have reinstalled both the iPod software and itunes multiple times.
I formatted my HD and reinstalled windows
The iPod works on other computers .
Does anyone know what i should do.
I have all my music on a USB drive that works fine, and it has been that way for months. I did not install any new software.
Dell tells me it's the iPod and Apple tells me it's the Dell
I would appreciate any help

After formatting my HD, restarting windows, spending hours on dell and apple tech support, buying a firewire card, i figure it out.
I had a bad file in my library (it was a podcast).
once i deleted it, everything was fine.
see if you can see at what song you get that error and delete that song.. good luck.

Steps to stop & Start servicesservices

we r doing SAN migration next week,
i'll giv u a brief about my setup. It is 2 node RAC connected to a SAN storage and size of DB is 500GB on Windows 2003. So now they r asking me to move this database to a new SAN storage box with 3TB and they asked to migrate this entire setup to new one. So please provide me the steps with scripts to full fill this.
So please provide me the steps(commands on windows cmd prompt) to stop & start services like cluster,asm and instances....etc what are the services to stop and copy database to new one and how to start the services with scripts to complete this task.
Actually some of our frns told me that there is no much downtime required but my comp asked me to do like stop services and shut down down DB and migrate then start services.
Pls help me out on this. i am very new t pls pls pls pls.. help me out

sorry but providing scripts for this task is just impossible, there are too many factors
its all written in the documentation
one possible scenario, that we did last week on a 11gR2 OEL5 RAC:
1. attach the new storage, create disks/volumes, make the hosts recognize them
2. add the new disks to the ASM diskgroup, and drop the old disks from the ASM diskgroup - this will cause a rebalance, that will take some time depending on the rebalance power and the size of the database
[3. you can do the same with OCR/votedisk, with the proper commands, if they are located in ASM]
4. remove the old storage
zero downtime needed

Stop / start buffering from tv to films

hi all im new and if this has been covered apologys .
i have a 1phone 4 ios 5.0.1 -- 04.11.08 on the three uk all you can eat data plan . data speed on avarage 3G 4.6mbs - 6.7 mbs
i try and belive me i really try to watch catch up tv / filmon / netflix / ..and face a constant issue of stop start / buffering .
all i get is the progress meter and volume level i press the screen it disapears and somtimes starts to play for a matter of seconds
and then stops yet again .
i have tested my conection time and time again and gone to great leanghths to be 100% sure three arnt throtteling me .(they are not )
i have tethered my iphone to my laptop and no problems at all it just plays and plays and plays maybe once in a blue moon it may buffer normally
at peak times .
three have been very helpfull and spent a large amount of time trying to sort this problem for me to no avail .
they have sent me so many new micro sims just incase thats the coaurse .
im on to my 3rd iphone 4 still the problem arrises its not a mast issue as i have this problem nation wide .
i have used differant phones for example htc desire hd and it plays none stop with my micro sim card + adapter cover .
i recently sent a email to saga regarding sonic all starts racing game for the iphone 4 as it has conection issues over 3g and keeps droping conection.
they sent me a responce back saying we are aware of a conection issue regarding the iphone 4 on the IOS 5.0.1 .
apple are investigateing this issue and as are we .
we intend to release an update that should help with this problem .
we have been informed by apple that a update is forthcoming in the next few months .
i hope this ansewrs your question .

If your loop continues, why not just do a time check in that data acquisition loop? If the time expires, stop and let the outter loop reset everything.
Another thing to be aware of, since you are using USB, make sure your power settings for the bus is for Windows to never shut down the USB hub power. By default, Windows has this "power saving" feature set to turn off the USB hub if it doesn't certain activity. That might be what is causing your DAQ to hang.

Can't add songs unless I restore the iPod. (unable to write to disk)

Brand new XL SP2 machine with all windows updates
The only way I can put new songs on my shuffle is if I (1) restore it, & (2) let it automatically fill. If I want specific songs to load I have to delete some of the songs that populated the playlist automatically & hurry up & add the desired songs to the ipods playlist because once it's done uploading it wont accept any more songs. It will give me that "Unable to write to disk" error. In a nutshell, the ipod will only upload during the initial session immediately after restoring.
If I come back the next day or even just 2 minutes later wanting to add an additional song I have to start the process all over.
This happened using the newest version of iTunes as well as an older version (about a year old) that I keep around because I know its stable & one of the updates in between caused my video podcasts to be choppy.
Anything I can do or am I stuck?
I knew I shoulda got a Mac!

In my experince Mac is no better than PC, its all in the user and how much you know. I fix more Macs daily than PCs. Of course all the PC I work on I built myself... lets see you build your own Mac!

Essbase Dimension build error and Unable to Stop/Start Application

I am trying to build the dimendion in the ASO application it is throwing the Error meaasage " Dimension Biuld failed , ther may be problem in allocating memory".
While i am trying to and Start/Stop my respective Application it is throwing the below error meaasge
I tried to debug this issue by checking the Locked objects, and asked my Admin to close my sessions forcebully if any running and also checking all rules files . But i didn't get any clue/solution from them.

Thanks for your answer friend. My admin has successfully killed my session forcebully. And he doubted that i may not have enough rights to Stop/Start application and he provided me the required rights. After that also the error is repeating as below. we two are not getting where we went wrong.

Ipod touch not being recognized by itunes (but is registering as an external drive by the computer itself) have updated and reinstalled itunes, stopped/started apple mobile device and removed any mobile programs associated with my non apple cellphone. This seems to have started happening after the last Itunes update I did as I was able to put music on my ipod touch a month or so ago. Is there some way to go back to an older version of itunes? I really have no idea what else to do since I followed every step on the trouble shooting page for windows 8.

I had this problem too and my roommate solved it!
Go to 'Settings'
'Music'
Scroll to the bottom and enter your password to log onto your home sharing
Then connect to iTunes and sync!

"Can't Read Or Write to disk" Video Won't Transfer To Ipod

I have transfered videos to my ipod in the past but I have two tv shows from the Itunes story that won't transfer.
They are in the correct mpeg 4 whatever format. My itunes is the most resent version, but for some reason I keep getting the same error.
"Cannot Read Or Write To Disk".
HELP??!!

I've got this problem too. My 5g iPod 30gig syncs after about 3 minutes with iTunes then after loading songs and videos after 10 minutes i get the same message your getting - "Can't Read Or Write to disk". I think theres some kind of USB2 conflict or something. All my other USB devices work fine. All my drivers and software is up-to-date.

Ipod will sync up once then says cannot read or write to disk.

Is this normal? The IPOD shows up in Itunes after the first sync but when I go and try to update the ipod again it says it cannot read or write to disk. Tech support says this is normal but it does not make any sense as the IPOD still shows up in Itunes.

the IPOd will sync up when I fiorst plug it in. the problem is when it is finished, Itunes says ipod update complete you can disconnect. I leave it connected, and if I try to update the ipod again after I download something or whatever into Itunes it comes back with the cannot read from or write to disk. I can unplug it and plug it back in and it work sfine. There is something with the software I guess that is not staying connected with the hardware after the first sync.
