Constant Sync - ATV sometimes vanishes from itunes

Hi Everyone.
As a recent convert to macs.. I decided to have a stab at the ATV. Got this two days ago and set up onto my itunes on the imac.
I have approximately 42gb of information to send to the ATV (160gb) but it has taken over two days to send the information (sync not stream) and then its quite fragile as sometimes it seems to lose the information or the ATV just disappears from itunes v8 then the whole sync process starts again from the start.
Am i doing something wrong?
I initially upgraded to the 2.3 version but since then I've done a factory restart and not upgraded. Im now in the process of sending the 42gb yet again.. Have to say im getting a little annoyed with the box and unless i can fix this issue i will be sending it back.

My thoughts exactly. Since posting Ive been reading the forum and have decided to manually sync the stuff i want which has reduced down the sync.
I have to say, its not the fact of time for the 42gb but the fact that the ATV seems to be constantly syncing i.e. it will get almost all the way through, then start over again. it may be something im doing as can't believe Apple would release something like this.
Ive decided to manually sync and just leave it alone until its done.
Can anyone advise me that the itunes i have synced from can be closed down once done and then if i add anything to itunes i can then choose to sync it and it wont go through the whole sync process again.. i.e. it will remember what i already have on atv and not try to sync that information again?

Selete Store on the left side of iTunes.
Make sure you are signed in.

Then make sure to regularly backup, backup, backup all your important data .

It's not entirely impossible actually as someone has pointed out to me that I can turn on Call Forwarding and that stops any incoming calls. I've just forwarded it to my google voice number and then turned on "do not disturb" in google voice and whenever I get a call it goes straight to my google voice voicemail and my phone does nothing. The only thing now is I still get text messages but I think the phone calls bugged me more because they would make my music turn off for much longer.
Even though this isn't a perfect solution it's something so far so maybe you shouldn't just come out and say there's NOTHING I can do because so far I've found part of a solution. If you don't have anyting productive to say then just don't reply and close the tab. Thanks.

Connect & select iPhone in iTunes Sudebar (iTunes > View > Show Sidebar), in Music tap (right pane top), select Sync Music and the music you want on iPhone then click Apply button (bottom right).

I there a way to sync all my music from iTunes on my different computers including my work computer? I have all the computers authorized but when I buy a new somg and download it, it does not show up on my work computer when I start iTunes.

Thank you for your question! It sounds like you are wanting your iTunes Store purchases to automatically appear on all your authorized devices. Automatic Downloads is a feature that can be turned on or off in the preferences of iTunes on a computer, and in the Settings of an iOS device. This article will help you get that turned on:

Sync Notes option GONE from iTunes after ML Update?!?

I upgraded to Mountian Lion
Now in iTunes, under the 'Info' tab for my iPhone, I can no longer see the 'Sync Notes on this iPhone with Notes on this Computer' option.
The checkbox & heading has COMPLETELY gone.
I'm assuming this has something to do with ML now having a native Notes.app but this is of no use to me.
The bulk of my notes on my iPhone were created before iCloud existed. And so they belong to the account 'On my Phone'. So even when turning on iCloud syncing for notes on the iPhone, these old notes do not transition to iCloud (A well known flaw amoungst many users I've seen on here).
Does anyone know how else to Sync notes from an iPhone to a Mac running ML?
Once on the Mac, I can simply turn on iCloud syncing for Notes on the Mac, then drag & drop the Notes from 'On my Mac' to 'iCloud'.

I did what you just said (drag & drop) and ALL of my notes dissapeared off ALL of my devices AND iCloud!!!. Fortunately I had backed up my iPhone 4 iOS 6 and still have all my notes in the iTunes backup file. I restored that file (including my notes) and as soon as phone restarted, it re-synced with the empty iCloud Notes and notes disappeared again from my phone. This is absolutely REDICULOUS!!! And I'm still using Lion with latest iTunes update so I still have Sync Notes option in iTunes, BUT IT DOES NOT WORK!!! Somebody at Apple has been drinking WAY too much.

IPhone vanishes from iTunes

In the last couple of weeks I have been having a hard time syncing my iPhone 3GS with iTunes. When I place the phone in the dock it starts charging right away, but sometimes it doesn't show in the itunes device list. Other times it does show for a few moments and then vanishes, without any error message, even half way through a sync operation. I have to remove it from the dock and place it again several times, until I finally get it to completely backup and sync. I have iTunes 9.0.3 and the iPhone has OS 3.1.3.
Is anybody having the same problem?

Thank you for your help. Yes, I had the dock connected through a USB hub. I have been testing different connection setups and I now believe that the problem is in the USB hub (and not the dock), although it doesn't happen every time. Probably some conflict with some other device, but I can't say which one. Still, when connected directly to the macMini USB port works without any problem.

Can't Get ATV to Stream from iTunes

OK, I can't get my ATV to stream from my iTunes. when I initially set up the ATV, it synced to my iTunes. I actually don't recall any option to sync or stream, but makbe I missed it.
Anyway, the help says the following:
"Playing your iTunes library on your TV using Apple TV
If you have an Apple TV, you can stream items from your iTunes library to your TV. You can also sync your Apple TV with your iTunes library so that content is automatically loaded onto your Apple TV.
Syncing your Apple TV with iTunes
If your Apple TV is synced with an iTunes library, it is already set up for streaming. You can also stream items from an iTunes library that isn't synced with your Apple TV. You can stream from up to five iTunes libraries, plus the library the Apple TV is synced with.
To set up your Apple TV for streaming:
Make sure the computer you want to stream from is on, and iTunes is open.
On your Apple TV, choose Sources, choose "Connect to New iTunes," and make a note of the passcode displayed.
In iTunes, select the Apple TV with "Click to set up" next to it, and enter the passcode.
While content is being streamed, the computer must remain on and iTunes must remain open. If you stream content while Apple TV is syncing, the sync pauses until streaming stops.
You can stream from only one iTunes library at a time. To stream from a different library, choose Sources on your Apple TV and then choose another source."
Now, here is the problem:
1. It says "If your Apple TV is synced with an iTunes library, it is already set up for streaming." NOT. No where do I see any stream or share selection. Only sync.
2. It says "You can stream from up to five iTunes libraries, plus the library the Apple TV is synced with." Again, not that I can see.
3. It says "On your Apple TV, choose Sources, choose "Connect to New iTunes," and make a note of the passcode displayed." I don't have a "Sources" option anywhere in ATV. How am I supposed to select it?? All I have is a "Computers" selection, which shows me my current selected computer for synching, and another option to share a library, with a new passcode. But, only to a second computer, not my main one (where all the files are!).
I don't understand. It's like it's referring to some other device, with different menus. Now, I have ver 2.0 of ATV, and 7.6 of iTunes. WHAT IS GOING ON?
I purchased this thing to take advantage of streaming, for photos and video. I only bought the 32 GB unit, but even the 160 would not be bug enough to have all my photos and HD video. So, streaming is a must. But, it would be nice to also sync the music files so I can listen to them without having the computer on. If the thing functed like the manual says, I would be happy. But, it doesn't.

Good news- this is all so much simpler that you think. (I know because I too struggled with it for days.) It turns ou that you have to do NOTHING to set up streaming with 2.0. Once you have synced your computer, just leave your computer running and on your TV using ATV you will see whatever movies you have imported into iTunes in the movie menu even if you have not synced them. The only way that you can tell that they are not synced is that when you select them to play the streaming bar will appear briefly at the bottom of your TV screen to indicate that it is being synced. If you turn your computer off the movie that you have chosen would not even appear in the menu.
Hope this helps- it is too bad apple doesn't give more info about using ATV!
