Constant unwanted friend requests

Around 3 months ago I started getting 10-20 unwanted friend requests per day. I really do not want to cancel my Skype account but I would really like to avoid this constant harassment. Can you advice me on how to do that?

Same here, and now my wife's iPad is frozen with a "Forget your password?" message. I've had multiple changes int eh last week. Every time I either need to verify the password or change it. What the heck, Apple? Fix the system! I've had no problems with it untila month ago and then all of a sudden I've had to verify or change my password more than I have in the last 5 years! Fix it!

Unwanted Contact Request?

i did not see a support forum on the support tab and my search question "why did i get a request from someone i do not know" turned up nothing. can this be posted here?
i have never had a problem with skype in the past since i have gotten it. i believe it was 2011.
Alright, so i login to skype to see which of my contacts is online and to hopefully chat with them. Then i notice i have 1 new contact request. I go to look at it and it says "princess_cassisexox111 (Joy Rodgers)". I then ask some of contacts if they knew this contact and they reply "no"
I then try talking to this contact to see if they know me from somewhere. Here is the conversation. Twinkle is my display name since it was already taken on here.
Twinkle has shared contact details with Joy Rodgers.

how did this contact get a hold of me? could this of been a bot?

I'm almost sure that those are scammers/spammers/or phishers. Unfortunately, those unwanted users are very resourceful individual. They may have numerous ways to search for valid Skype usernames.
ignore and block them, and/or report them to [email protected] for misusing/abusing Skype services.

Friend requests

Every cople of days I receive a request for a man and the story is almost identical everytime. a widowed or divorced man looking for a female friend. Extremely tired of this.... just deleted one on monday and now there is another today.... think it might be best to shut it down completely..... Do you have any suggestions? I have my profile set so that only friends can see it....

Spam friend requests

Several times a week I get friend requests from obviously spam accounts all with a similar canned message, something along the lines of "I saw you and thought you'd be interesting to talk to! ;D"
I always block and report, but it doesn't seem to matter. I have every possible privacy setting turned on. At the bottom it says "Skype values your privacy" but I don't believe it. I don't know how so many people are getting my Skype name, because I don't have it posted anywhere. The only thing I can think of is that I'm somehow searchable, and I can't find any option to disable that. Until I stop getting spam, I'm canceling my premium subscription, because it's getting that bad.

What in the hell are all these friend requests?

So about a week ago, I was getting friend requests from FirstName LastName, and was just deleting them. Now, ONLY LAST NIGHT, I have had 16 more requests. What the hell is this and apart from manually deleting ONE INDIVIDUAL REQUEST AT A TIME for the rest of my life, how do I stop it?

More visibility of profile info for friend request...

Hi,
I share a name and geographic region (Australia) with a celebrity who was on big brother in the Philippines.
I also have quite a few friends in the Philippines.
For several months I've been receiving a significant number of friend requests, frequently from the Philippines.
It's very difficult to differentiate between friend request from "real" friends and people who have mistaken me with the big brother contestant.
I'd like to suggest that security be modified such that if a person initiates a friend request that the person they are requesting the friendship with should be able to see much of the requesters profile (at least for a short period of time) so that the person receiving the friendship request can make an informed decision about whether they wish to be friends on skype.

I can see that when james reid is entered in the Name field in the Add a Contact window, it will display around 200 results and your account is first on the list. I can see that you already add a profile picture and include a note in About Me section, specifying that you are not that famous actor from the Philippines. I think that would indeed stop or at significantly minimize the number of unwanted contact request.

Gamecenter says I have a friend request but I don't

Hello - Gamecenter in my iPhone 5, iOS 7.0.3 shows a badge indicating that I have a pending request. When I load Gamecenter, it also says 1 pending friend request. However, when I load the "friends" section, there are no pending requests. This is only happening on my iPhone, even though the same account is on my iPad and MacBook. None of the other devices have this issue - only the iPhone.
Any suggestions on what could be wrong / how to fix would be appreciated!

Have you tried closing the application from the multitasking, then restarting your phone? This could solve the problem. Sometimes our apps just get exhausted and need to restart in the same way our phones need to.
Have you tried logging out and logging back into game center? This can reset game centers information, which should reset friends as well. This can be found in settings>game center
Have you verified your apple ID? Since you're on here I'd guess thats a yes but just in case you haven't go here: https://appleid.apple.com/cgi-bin/WebObjects/MyAppleId.woa/
Is your iOS up to date? sometimes servers get upgraded with the updates so older iOS versions might not be compatible in silly small ways (like Game Center not displaying friends).
The other issue could be related to an error my own phone was having. Basically I couldn't add friends (whether I was sending the request or receiving it) or play multiplayer on game center. In that case the issue is in the iPhone/iPad/iPod software itself, which is something we'd all expect (at least I would) when a company creates a new operating from scratch. In this case what's happening is your game center is responding to the iOS restrictions found in your settings menu (even though restrictions are disabled).
To fix this problem
go to settings>general>restrictions
Enable restrictions and choose a password you'll remember in 45 seconds
Scroll to the bottom where you see the section labeled "Game Center"
Now flip the switch on both Multiplayer Games and Adding Friends so both switches are green.
Scroll back to the top and disable restrictions
So let me know if you try any of that and let me know if any of it works.

Game Center friend request problems

I've tried to add my friend through Game Center and I sent the friend request fine via email, but when I asked her if she got the request, she said that she did and that on her friends list it said that I was added to her list and that she could see the scores on my games and everything. When she removed me, she sent me a request and I never got one. Anyone else have this problem?

HT4211 How to accept friend request in game center?

I am trying to add a friend in game center. I can see the request but when I hit the request the screen goes to my friend list and there is no request present. Alternatively when I try to find him I get the message "Friend request failed. Unable to send friend request". I know he does not have any problem adding friends and this is the first time I have seen this message. Funny thing is it happened right after I did the update to iOS7.1.
Notifications are allowed for game center on my phone, parental settings are off, and I have allowed people to request to be my friend in settings.
Any suggestions??

Nvm I figured it out. Very stupid! Recently changed my password and game center will still run eventhough you didn't change the password for game center as well. Simply restarted my iPhone and everything is fine. Just wish there would have been some sort of notification when I first accessed game center after changing my Apple ID password.

We need help with unwanted contact requests

In the last 2 weeks, I have received 13 unwanted contact requests that I have blocked, which is roughly 2 unwanted contact requests for every Skype message or call I'm interested in receiving.
All of my privacy settings are set to "Contacts" and I do not publish my Skype ID on LinkedIn, the only social media site I use.
What else can I do?

Please have a look at the form enclosed, the field in question (field
name "calculated currency value", red border) is on the top right and
refers to the field "FX" (field name "FXname 4800") below (blue border)
Both fields are in number format so I don`t know why this doesn't work,
what else can it be?

Massive friend requests

Hello!
I am getting a massive friend requests. They look like bots, since they ask me if I am male. I got like 7 friend requests in the last 30 minutes. Is there any way for me to block the friend requests or what's any other solution?

Likewise, I just thought it was a way of saying "I'm in with this crowd" sort of thing. Didn't realize it was going to start spamming me with emails from every little comment made by those people. Fortunately I just went to my preferences and switched off all the emails.

Upon reading Primemover's [Power User] ‎25-07-2012 20:39 - edited ‎25-07-2012 20:52 response to "How to Handle Unwanted Contact Requests"

I followed his/her instructions.
My Skype version (7.0.80.102) screen appeared differently than that which was displayed within Primemover's link. My screen was missing some key options such as "BLOCK" this person.
My wife suggested I right-click on either the unknown requestor's picture or name to see what options appear.
Sure enough upon right clicking both the requestor's name and picture came a drop down list of options. Looking quite a way down the list of options, I saw the "BLOCK" option.
I clicked "BLOCK this contact" for my South african 'fan'. This (apparently) immediately blocked the contact. Followed immediately with a Skype pop-up appearing complete with a 'tick' box asking if I wanted to "Report Abuse" (which I did).
Immediately the contact disappeared from my list.
I presume the report went through to Skype and will possibly result in Skype doing their privacy protection duties as Primemover suggested.
I certainly hope this is effective in reality. Hopefully my approach works for other Skype users who are also afflicted by ongoing introductions and requests from unknown/unwanted individuals or entities.
I, too, find this process both odd and expect it to be unnecessary. In my opinion this is either an oversight on Skype's programming or a knowingly enabled function within Skype for unknown purposes contrary to what Skype users either expect or choose.
My wife and I both have set our Skype Security and Privacy settings to only accept incoming requests from people we know in our contacts. Yet we both continue to be harassed by unknown entities or people whose intent is contrary to what we have configured our Skype settings to permit.
Having read many of the complaints within the extended history of associated concerns suggest this is more than an anomally within Skype. Clearly Skype is aware of this concern for years; Skype chooses to enable/permit it to continue rather than acutually support the privacy and security choices of it's users. Follow the money trail is likely the rational to enabling this affliction rather than ensuring Skype's users' settings actually function reasonably as intended/expected.

I never ever post on these forums! But this is getting simply ridiculous!
It used to just be General Napoleon-complex or whoever, and that was once or twice a month; I could live with that. Then it got to be random people at least once or twice a week. Then it built to at least one or two a day.
Today it was 5, and one of them was pure porn. ACK!!!! Totally not acceptable!!!
And I am required - note: REQUIRED!!! - to use Skype for work. Just how is one expected to use Skype for work when one is bombarded with useless, senseless requests, some of which are porn?
And what about our children, who also use Skype? I do believe that subjecting minors to porn is against the law. If you knowingly don't fix the problem and a minor is subjected to porn, that is a FELONY.
At this point, if you can't fix the problem, the result is going to be that we all start to use something else. Some of those inexpensive little webcams come with nice PRIVATE chat systems on a CD that you can install anywhere. Perhaps we should migrate to those, guaranteeing we only have people in our networks that we know - because they won't have the CD, and won't have our usernames, and someone won't allow them to find us.
Wake up, smell the coffee, and fix it, before you lose everyone. Or is that the idea?
Or does anyone from Skype or MS even read these?

I have it on good authority that all of our reports are reviewed by Skype and action taken as necessary. I have also reported this and many other threads related to this topic. For my two cents, I add absolutely nothing to the profile - country, location, birth date and so on are completely blank/unspecified or for those settings where we are permitted choices, private or contacts only.

Unwanted contact request on Samsung note
