Constant wifi device disconnections

Im experiencing a huge amount of WiFi disconnections on various devices including Apple, PS3 and Android - although mainly iPhone, then iPad. My Broadband connection isn't too bad, with a couple of reconnects per day, last eg: was 17 hours ago.

(the 'failed' lines refer to the router MAC.)
My setup is BT Infinity, BT Home Hub 5 (Type A) | Software version 4.7.5.1.83.8.204 | Last updated 18/01/15
I've attempted to fix it by turning 5GHz off, assigning permanent IP addresses and of course rebooting both devices and the router but nothing so far has improved the connection.
Also, a LAN connection to the router is solid.
There are no alarms, etc., installed causing interefence.
Could my WiFi issues be related to the issue I've read other people are experiencing with the new firmware? Is there anything I can do to remedy this?
Thanks

I am seeing this exact same problem.  Wireless devices remain connected to WiFi, but lose routing to Internet.
System info:
BT Home Hub 5 (Type A) | Software version 4.7.5.1.83.8.204 | Last updated 23/01/15
Separate SSIDs for 5GHz and 2.4GHz bands (although I notice they share the same MAC)
Smart Setup disabled
I couldn't swear to this, but I have a nagging suspicion that the problem only started this month (ie shortly after the last firmware update).  It certainly wasn't happening last year.  It's a major problem for me as I work from home regularly and this is causing me to drop from webex sessions, skype calls and so on.
I have noticed that if my laptop loses connectivity in this way, then switching to the other band (2.4 to 5 or vice versa) usually fixes it; but the problem invariably recurs within the next hour.
I have very similar event logs to the OP:

Each of the "WiFi registration failed" messages corresponds to lost WiFi connectivity (my devices are still connected to WiFi, but can't route anywhere). The MAC listed against these is the MAC for the WiFi interface.
Any help would be much appreciated, although I have a strong suspicion that this is a firmware issue and will need a new version to fix...

  • Constant wifi drop & disconnect

My one month old iMac does not maintain an interent connection for very long. Sometimes it stays connected for <maybe> an hour, but  MORE often it drops either the wifi signal all together or just stops connecting to the internet... when it does seem to have a connection it is VERY slow.
My solution: turn off Wifi wait a few seconds and turn it back on... which is very annoying, but that fixes it.
I have the latest software across the board. I'm running wifi on Time machine. My signal is strong. I have a Powerbook and iPad that connects to it without issues (for a couple of years its been fine until this iMac problem).
    Any suggestions?

There are actually many threads on this subject around here, like this one:
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3190651?start=0&tstart=0
There are also many articles on Lion wifi drops. Here are my two cents:
I have a 4 month old iMac running Lion and for the first three months it worked beautifully, but I started having problems with my internet provider and they sent over a technician who changed my modem/router to a new one and configured a new network. He never even touched my iMac, it was all done on one of the PCs in my house, and immediately after that my iMac started dropping the connection all the time. All the other computers in the house (pc and Snow Leopard mac) are working fine.
I have read a thousand threads on this subject and apparently it is a known issue with Lion. There are many suggestions for solutions and I've tried every single one of them, including removing the network in the system preferences panel and then adding it back; or adding DNS servers to the DNS list; or changing the channel on your network (it should be lower than 11). If you search for threads here you'll find many of these supposed solutions, so I'm going to cut to the chase. The only one that worked for me is this:
Open Terminal (type Terminal into Spotlight)
Paste the following line exactly as is into the Terminal window:
      ping `route get default | awk '(/gateway/){print $2}'`
    Press enter
DON'T close the Terminal window. Just press cmd+H to hide it and leave it running in the background.
It is NOT a permanent solution and you have to do it every time you restart your computer, and you have to keep Terminal running on the background. It is a huge pain, but I find that connection drops every 10 minutes is an even bigger pain. Basically what this command does is send signals to the modem every couple of seconds so that the connection doesn't drop from being inactive. It won't affect anything else on your computer and it's not very system-consuming.
This seems to be the only way to have a steady connection for now, until Apple addresses the situation. They just issued an update regarding this issue last week or so, so I suggest you try to keep your system as updated as possible. This update only worked for me till my next startup, though.
However, like I said the problem only started after the technician changed my modem/router and network, so I suspect this is not a Lion problem, but a network problem. The only different thing I can think of that was done with the new network is that I used to have a WEP password and now I have a WPA2 Personal password. I intend to delete this new network and create a new one from scratch, but I haven't had the time yet. I suspect though that there could be some incompatibility with the actual machine (the modem/router), and not the network. I have not found any info on this and have not yet been able to figure out.
I hope this helps, if I find out something more I'll post about it, but in the meantime check out the other threads and google some articles, there are many different answers and opinions on this.

Had the same issue and finally solved it.  After the upgrade to Mavericks our 2 new Macbook Airs stopped connecting automatically to Wifi while the older machines the kids had still worked fine.
Bought a new airport extreme and problem solved.   Our Airport Extreme was about 5 years old and was probably not compatible with the new OSX.
BTW this was after trying everything people suggested on this forum and a 4 hour marathon tech support call with Apple where we reinstalled the OSX.
***** to need to spend $200 but glad the problem got solved.
New extreme is also mega fast so its all good.

  • My ipod touch 4g wifi randomly disconnects, any solution? my firmware is 4.3.1.

    Hi,
I have an ipod 4th gen. It has firmware 4.3.1. I have a very annoying problem that my wifi gets disconnected randomly with no particular reason. The signal strength is excellent in my laptop. Also, when I see safari not responding, and then when I open settingh->wifi, after a few moment the ssid automatically appears and it shows connected, but as soon as I am away from this page and go to safari, it again disconnects. It is quite annoying, I searched the web forums and only saw people with problems with no solution. Will apple do something about their product.

Even through you think it connects, I doubt that it has.  Tap Settings > WiFi > and then tap the blue ">" next to the network name with the check mark.  What you will see next is all of your connection information.
If you are truly connected, your device will have an IP address, a full subnet mask, a router IP address and a couple of DNS addresses.  However, I think you will either have nothing or a device IP address that starts with 169.x.  What you are seeing is caused by your router, not your touch.
Things that may cause this are old routers, old router firmware, WEP encryption, a router that hasn't been rebooted in a while, and so on.  You might want to check your router first  - is there a firmware upgrade available, have I actually ever shut the thing off, am I using WEP (change to WPA2 which is far more secure), etc.  Then try this:
Reboot your router by unplugging it from the power source
Reset the touch network settings - tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings
When the touch restarts, tap Settings > WiFi > Other and re-enter your network name, security, and network password.

  • Macbook Pro Wifi Keeps Disconnecting

Ever since I got my new BELL Router, I've been having these constant WIFI disconnects. It would stay on for about 30 minutes and disconnect by itself.. anyone have any solutions to this problem?

Since it started when you replaced your router that sounds like a router problem.
Have you contacted your router manufacturer?
    Also.
This is the Mac Pro desktop forum. I requested your post be moved to the MacBook Pro laptop forum.

  • TS1398 Hi. My wifi keeps disconnecting. I kkep turning the wifi on and off in settings but will disconnect again after a minute or so. I use an ipad2 and my ios is updated. How to troubleshoot? - kay peralta

Hi. My wifi keeps disconnecting. I keep turning the wifi on and off in settings but will disconnect again after a minute or so. I use an ipad2 and my ios is updated. How to troubleshoot? - kay peralta

Is this happening with one particular network or with all?  Make sure iOS is updated on the device.
    Try this:
Reboot ipad by pressing and holding both the home and sleep/wake buttons at the same time until the apple logo appears on the screen, then let go. Then try to connect to network.
Go to settings, Toggle airplane mode on/off. Make sure bluetooth is off. Turn on wif (airplane mode off). Try to connect.
    Reset Network Settings
Go to settings/general/reset/reset network settings. Then try to connect to network.
If its your home router, then reboot router by unplugging for 5-10min. (do this while you're resetting network settings).
If problem persists, then check for firmware updates on your router.(you check router manufacturer support website for downloads and instructions).

  • Wifi Auto disconnect after 5-10 of sleep.

    Here's my technical data:
    Iphone 4s
    iOS 8
I connect to wifi and lock my phone, after 5-10 minutes of sleeping the wifi auto disconnect.
To test this, I tried sending a LINE message and as expected, I didn't receive the message.
Is this a problem with the OS or is it normal for wifi to disconnect automatically?

    Reset the device:
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button together for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
If that doesn't help, tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings
If that doesn't help, tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings
You may have to re enter your Wi-Fi password.

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
first try those steps in the same sequence : (steps 1 and 2 each should result in a message coming to your BB...please wait for that before proceeding to the next step):
    1) Register HRT
KB00510 How to register a BlackBerry smartphone with the wireless network
Please wait for one "registration" message to arrive to your Messages app
    2) Delete and Resend Service Books (pre-BB10 devices only)
KB05000Delete the service book for the BlackBerry Internet Service email account from the BlackBerry smartphone
If you have no CMIME entry, then skip the deletion
KB02830 Send the service books for the BlackBerry Internet Service
Please wait for "Activation" Messages, one per already configured email account, to arrive in your Messages. If you have no already configured email accounts, please wait 1 hour.
    3) Reboot
Pre-BB10 Devices ONLY. With power ON, remove the back cover and pull out the battery. Wait about a minute then replace the battery and cover. Power up and wait patiently through the long reboot -- ~5 minutes.
BB10 Devices. Hold the top button down until the counter reaches zero. Wait for the device to be fully shut down (e.g., nothing at all displayed on the screen, no LED lights, etc.). Hold the top button until the red LED is lit. Wait through the full boot-up process. IF this fails, you can attempt the battery-pull method above, but it is normally NOT recommended unless nothing else works.
See if things have returned to good operation. Like all computing devices, BB's suffer from memory leaks and such...with a hard reboot being the best cure.
Hopefully that will get things going again for you! If not, then you should contact your mobile service provider for formal support.
    Good luck!

  • [SOLVED]Wifi frequently disconnecting, prompting password

    Hello Arch Forums!
I'm using 64 bit Arch Linux with Gnome. The wifi keeps disconnecting and forgetting the password. In fact, it just did so just now.
It either gives me the "Wi-Fi Network Authententication Required" (white window) or the "Authentication required by wireless network" (black window) screen prompting me to enter the password, or the lock screen says I've been disconnected. If I go into Gnome's settings I can connect without re-entering the password. I don't have this problem with any other devices, and when I had Windows installed I never had this problem.
    It happened again.
I installed seamonkey as the GNOME wiki page said, but I'm still having the same problem.

Did you try generating a new keyring?
Can you connect if you disable NetworkManager and use a manual method instead?
    https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Wi … nual_setup
Does this problem occur in (a live version of) other distributions?
Have you been using Arch long?
    Did it work previously?
If so, what packages had been upgraded just before it stopped working?
Does downgrading these packages to a previous version fix your problem?

  • Constant wifi notifications

The constant wifi notifications are very annoying when its enabled. Not only does it constantly notify me of different networks, it also constantly tells me when my phone connects/disconnects to my home wifi network.  How do i stop them?  Is there an update around the corner?

I also find this frustrating!!!   The notify "check" option only effects the "pop up" to connect when entering apps.  It does not stop the phone from constantly putting a notification into the android system about networks available.
Prior to lollipop it was just  annoying.  Now with the update it is down right intrusive because it keeps coming up on my lock screen as the top notification.  Called HTC and they claim it is a Verizon change. THIS IS WHY PEOPLE ROOT PHONES.  Please tell me how to stop this top notification.  Wireless networks are all over the place!! you do not need to keep telling me!!!

Are you trying to print through the airport express wirelessly or the built in wireless of the lexmark? If you want to use the airport express, there is no need to mess with the wireless printing on the lexmark at all. The airport express will be easy to set up, all the wireless setups through the printers are a pain.

The setting for iPad cover lock/unlock is in settings > general for iPad 2.
The iPad 2 and new iPad if both are using iOS 5.x or later the setting exist in settings > general.
So, if you worked at an apple store I think you should have known that the setting exist.
You are right, a hard reset (force restart) should only be used if iOS device is unresponsive or apps crashing...etc.
But, a simple restart helps as well.
