Constantly getting kicked off wifi.

So, I've never had an issue with wifi on my iPad until I changed my security to WEP. To fix it the first time, I just "forgot network" and signed back in with the password. I didn't have an issue for months until recently. So I tried the fix previously mentioned, without any luck. I don't have any issues when I'm conected to my mobile hotspot.
My MacBook, and 5 other PC's never have any connectivity issues. Just my iPad and 2 iPhone 4's.
Is there any kmown issues with iOS mobile devices staying connected to wifi using WEP security? And if so, are there any fixes?
Thanks!
P.S. It is an iPad with wifi + 3G, I just never got the 3G service. Mainly because of the data cap, and because I own a nice hotspot.

Is there any kmown issues with iOS mobile devices staying connected to wifi using WEP security? And if so, are there any fixes?
Yes. WEP is old and not near as secure as WPA or WPA2. For any Windows PCs connected to your wireless network, you want to use WPA or WPA2 instead of WEP, unless the PCs are older and don't included a wireless card that supports WPA or WPA2.

  • My computer keeps getting kicked off wifi and says there is a connection timeout.

My computer keeps getting kicked off the wifi- it's not s problem with the wifi because all my other wireless products are working just fine. What could the problem be? It will connect for about 5 seconds and then says the there is a connection timeout.

Delete the Wi-Fi connection in the Network preference pane, then recreate it with the same settings. Any difference?

  • Since updating to iOS 6, I'm getting kicked off wifi

Since I updated to iOS 6, my iPhone 4 will kick me off wifi, and go onto 3G. I'll be sitting at home on Facebook, or playing a game, then stop to check the time and see that I'm on 3G. Before the iOS 6 update, this never happened. It's really frustating, because I'm using my data when I don't need to. Most games take up your whole screen, so you can't see if you are on wifi or 3G unless you close the game. Because of this, multiple times I have gone over my data useage and had to pay extra. My cell phone service provider does have an app that I can check my data useage, so that is helpful. Has anyone else expierenced this? Is there any way I can fix it? It's getting really frustating. Please help!

I figured out my problem...... I have custom text tones set up for certain ppl and had the default text tone set to "none" well with the iOS6 update it made it so if your default text tone is set on "none" then you won't hear what I call the send and recieve text sounds when in a converstation... if you change the default text tone to any text tone other than "none" you will get your send and recieve sounds back.... kinda annoying if you don't won't random texts from ppl waking you up... so I made a custon text tone that is called silence with just recording a few seconds of dead noise then edited it and turned all the sound levels down to 0 and set that as my default text tone.... now I have the send and recieve text sounds in a conversation and everything is fine! Sorry Nehucskter the first time I had this problem thats the first thing I did was reboot my phone.... first thing you do for everything lol....

  • IPhone 6 keeps getting kicked off wifi - No connection problems though

So I've been having this problem with my iPhone 6 wifi ..
I'm currently going to Texas Tech University for college, and they have campus-wide free wifi for students (after supplying login information). Now when I connect to their wifi network, I connect with no problem.  However, if I wait 4-5 minutes, I'm kicked back to LTE.  I have no connection issues though, as I can go back into settings and reconnect to the TTU network with no problems.
I asked some IT guys at the school, and they said they "weren't sure" exactly why it was happening, though they guessed saying, "Your phone bumps you off wifi automatically in order to save battery life." -- Is this true? Is there some way I can change this so I stay on wifi when I'm on campus?
I've tried turning my phone on & off, same thing happens. Likewise, this same issue happens when I'm home at my apartment trying to connect to my own wireless server.
    Any ideas / suggestions?
    Thanks!

Yes, that would be it. It has to do with the way the IT department has the Wi-Fi setup. This prevents people from coming by the school, parking the car and using their Wi-Fi. You have go log in to use it. There is a way for them to set up the Wi-Fi to be what is called persistent, so when you disconnect when the phone goes to sleep, it will connect again when it wakes up, but they may not want to do that. We have that at our college, but that is only for certain users and has a different network SSID. Unfortunately, you are going to have to live with the way they have it set up and log in as requested. Take care.

  • I keep getting kicked off wifi connection.

    How can I fix this?

I think the other devices are fine.  I'm not sure.  It usually only happens like a couple days out of the week.  I do know that the network I'm using when I click on the wifi symbol at the top of my screen doesn't have a padlock on it.  It IS MY network that is at my house, but maybe that has something to do with it.

    Hello there Joanny,
I have a neat lil gem here about troubleshooting wifi connectivity on the Mac OS platform. Named Troubleshooting Wi-Fi issues in OS X Lion and Mac OS X v10.6 it can be found here http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4628?viewlocale=en_US. I recommend this section first:
Use these steps if your computer disconnects from its Wi-Fi network unexpectedly.
Check your range to the Wi-Fi router and reduce the effect of interference. If your computer is too far from your Wi-Fi router or your environment has too much Wi-Fi interference, then your computer may not detect the Wi-Fi network properly. The easiest way to check for range limits with your Wi-Fi network is to move your computer or your Wi-Fi router closer together and make sure that there are no obstructions (such as walls, cabinets, and so forth) between the router and your computer.See Potential sources of wireless interference for more information about interference and solutions.
Try connecting to a different Wi-Fi network. If your computer works fine when connected to a different Wi-Fi network, then the issue may be related to your network router or ISP. In that case, contact the manufacturer of your router or your ISP.
And this section if needed: Symptom: My Mac does not connect to the Internet.
    Take care,

If the iPad is bouncing between the networks, than that is likely an issue with the iPad wireless supplicant behavior. The error message in red above is likely due to the device switching with fast-ssid change disabled.
So, if we are more concerned with why the device keeps moving between networks, we should capture a bit more data. Running a longer client debug should give us some additional data points.
I've seen similar behavior with Apple devices when they "Remember" wifi networks -- sometimes you need to "Forget" other networks in the area to stop the device from associating to it automatically.
Also, version of WLC code are you running?

I keep getting kicked off of my wifi with my MacBook Pro but not with my IPAD, what do I do?

    Hi, mmayers.
Sometimes a simple power cycle of the router can correct the issue that you are experiencing.  However, the issue could be a little more complex.  Wi-Fi routers need adjustments to settings periodically for optimized performance with the constant progression of wireless device technology.  Below, I have included two articles.  The first article will cover basic Wi-Fi troubleshooting.  The second article covers the recommended settings for current Wi-Fi access points.

  • Wifi help I keep getting kicked off home wifi

I keep getting kicked off home wifi

    I too had connection problems-
Reset your network settings on your iPad if you haven't already done so. Go to  General settings; scroll down and tap Reset; tap Network settings. You'll have to renter you wifi security code for you router.
In my case my wifi only iPad 3 was confused when the settings changed on my router:
Every other wifi device in my home easily connected on my home network, but I had a problem connecting with my wifi only iPad 3. An apple representative suggested I reset my Network Settings on my iPad and everything worked again.
The problem occurred when my cable / phone company reset my router Oct 1. They are rolling out "wifi everywhere" promotion at the expense of sharing everybody's router connection. Somehow they reset my router, probably through an upgrade, and now my router offers a free hotspot. I found my router with my usual password protected network AND a free hotspot connection! The router software has new menu and selections for creating a free hotspot. I think this new router partition confused my iPad. After resetting my ipad Network Settings and restarting my iPad I no longer have connection problems. But I've also switched; Ask to join networks ON in my iPad's wifi settings to insure I stay on my routers secure network instead of my new free hotspot.
At first I thought; 8ASTURDS! and thought i'd delete the free wifi partition on my router. But I'm pretty darn rural and this allows friends visiting my house to connect without giving them my wifi password or them being hassled with entering the long hexadecimal code.
This may not be your case, but goes to show; Not everything is Apple's fault...

  • HT4972 I updated my ipad to ios 5 because I kept getting kicked off of my wifi network. Upgrading did not help. Are there any other solutions? (I've also tried resetting the network settings)

My ipad keeps kicking me off of my known wifi network. I turned off the wifi and turned it back on, reset the network, and finally upgraded to ios5 but I keep getting kicked off. My laptop is connected so it's not a wifi issue. The ipad is a first generation one..Any help is appreciated

    Additional things to try.
Try this first. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
Another thing to try - Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.

  • I am having trouble connecting to my network all of a sudden. It is not an issue with the service/router. I keep getting kicked off and getting a ! in my airport... anyone know what's up with this?

I am having trouble connecting to my network all of a sudden. I am able to connect to other networks but not my own. It is not an issue with the service/router because other devices connect fine. I keep getting kicked off and getting a ! in my airport. Last time it happended I called apple and the suggested I wipe my HD and reinstall everything. I did and it did not work. One day I turned my laptop on and it connected no problem. Now it has kicked me off again. I tried resetting my IP address but that does not work either! Has anyone had this problem?

    Try this:
Apple menu / System Preferences / Network.
Click Location: and select Edit Locations..
Click + (plus sign), and enter a name for the new location - anything will do.
    Apply this.
