Constantly getting publishing errors in iWeb

Has any one else experienced publishing errors when trying to publish to your ,mac account?

Four things could be going on, but it's fixable.
first.. make sure that your screen saver, and energy saver are turned off in your system preferences. iWeb had trouble with this in it's first version, but since the update it's supposed to be fixed, but I'd still do it.
second, it's been my experience that iweb is affected by bandwidth issues while uploading. If you're using your browser, uploading or downloading anything else... you'll get the error message and that one file couldn't upload. Make sure that when you click on the publish button you walk away from the computer and don't use it. This appears to be a bigger problem for us G4 users than the G5 folks. Also, it's a memory hog, so seriously, when you publish turn everything else off except your computer and iWeb and walk away. Seems to work for me.
Third... make sure your idisk is NOT loaded onto your desktop. If it starts refreshing and files are getting put there while you're uploading, iWeb will give you the dreaded error message.
Finally, just keep republishing. iWeb seems to bog down when you publish sometimes. I re-uploaded my entire website last night, including 7 video podcasts and numerous other blogs that have audio and video in them. I had to publish and publish and publish.... it took four tries, but it finally finished. It seems that it gets farther and farther along each time. Anyway... it works.
Hope this helps.

i read almost all the discussions here about error on publishing to iWeb and it seems everyone have the same problem and no one can fix it.
hit me back if they fix the problem already.

  • I'm getting "Publish Error - An unknown error occurred" in iWeb

....and it's killing me! My podcast has been MIA for over a week now. The link to my webpage is gone. I can't find any help here. When I try to publish my episodes, this is what I get: Publish Error - An unknown error occurred...
I can't seem to find any advice anywhere on what to do about it. I've searched forums and tried reloading, refreshing, etc. Please help.
    Thanks!
    Bill

Well, actually it is solved... I guess. My son wrote a page on a blog model, without no blog on it; I first removed all buttons that could call an RSS feed or podcasts from all the pages, the issue remained.
The page in question displayed another error message in Safari, telling something was missing, and it was impossible to navigate the site via the menu banner; so I Cmnd-A the page, copied the whole stuff onto a brand new blank page, no success neither.
Eventually, I rewrote the page from scratch, and it solved the issue. Perhaps somewhere on the former page a hidden button or a piece of code which put the mess... I dunnow. But it seems to be OK now.

  • I constantly get an error 127 message when trying to donwload Itunes.

I have tried to dowload ITunes 5 times but constantly get and error 127 message. I followed instructions from this forum on which order to remove my files in and this seemed to work and all my music files came up.I was then told I had two upgrades to install and once this was done I got the error 127 message again. I have been using Itunes on my computer for the last 6 months with no problem. Any ideas please?

    Hello there, sheilahan.
The following Knowledge Base article provides a great step-by-step walkthrough for troubleshooting issues with installing iTunes. Make sure you are downloading the install file from Apple directly, as you want to be installing the latest version of the installer, not a dated one. The proper link is provided in Step 3:

  • I'm constantly getting an error message - any ideas welcome

I'm constantly getting an error message 'You are not connected to the internet - Safari can't open the page etc etc - but I know I'm connected - any ideas welcome -

I've seen those messages on a machine with a damaged hard drive directory.
Corrupt or missing system files will also cause that.
Another cause is a bad ethernet cable.
Try a different user account and see if the message persists.
Boot to the OS X install disc and use Disk Utility to Repair Disk on the startup drive.
    Try a different/new ethernet cable.
    but I know I'm connected
    Why? Mail still works?

  • TS2167 iWeb: publish by ftp to GoDaddy webhosting service - get "publish error" at end of ftp session - always 1-2 files not successfully transferred - Why?

Why do I get message "Publish error There was an error communicating with the server.  Try again later, or check with your service provider" when i publish websites to webhosting service (GoDaddy.com) from iWeb 3.0.4  even though most webpages have been transferred and are marked blue?   There are always a few pages marked red after each ftp transfer?   It seems that the ftp session is terminated by web hosting service too fast for iWeb 3.0.4. to register that files have been transferred successfully.  When I check pages marked red in iWeb with browser, they are often available and functioning.     I have to add many extra webpages (which I do not want) to get iWeb to register all my pages as transferred (marked blue).  If I do not do this, all pages on website are marked "red" after I close iWeb and restart it.   This means that everytime i make one little change to one page on a website of 8-10 Gigabytes,  I often have to republish the entire site!
I think (without understanding enough/anything about ftp protocolls and termination negotiations) that iWeb is not getting enough time at end of each ftp session to register that all the pages have in fact been transferred successfully.   Could this be the explanation?  If so, how do I "slow down" the termination of ftp session by my web hosting service GoDaddy so that iWeb 3.0.4 can see that all files have been successfully transferred and therefore should be marked blue?

You're rather prone to problems, aren't you. It's not the first time.

Which is the culprit site :
         http://www.melissaveres.com
         http://www.mveres-engraver.com
And since you do not use iWeb's ftp, but publish to a folder, iWeb's job is done.
You are now 100 percent responsible for your actions.
Upload the files properly. And if you're not blind visually challenged, you can see for yourself where the files are on the server. No need for GoDaddy eyes.
And why not use iWeb's FTP. Then at least you eliminate the human error.
And no, GoDaddy won't have to help you with iWeb, because there's nothing to fix.
And practice FTP first on your computer :

  • PUBLISH ERROR in iWeb

Hello. I just started using iWeb '08 2.0.2 a couple of weeks ago, and all was going well until...
Now whenever I publish, I get an error message "Publish Error, an error occurred while publishing file ... Try publishing again later."
Here's what I've done, based on advice in this message board:
    1) Tried again later. Error still happens.
    2) Publish All to .Mac. It took a long time, but still the same result in the end.
    3) Publish to a folder. I tried the entire site in the local folder, and it works fine. Then I manually copied the folders to the iDisk folder. (That copy was painfully slow, several hours!)
Once copied to the iDisk, the website does not work properly. Specifically, the photo albums no longer appear on the photo pages. Viewing the page source of the photo pages when browsing on line, I see that all the java code is missing, whereas it is still there when I browse the version on my local disk from the "Folder" publish.
Anyway, the website is now a bit crippled, and I can't really invest more time in it since the program is so buggy. Can anyone help?
    Many thanks.

I've discovered something weird that I wonder if it has anything to do with not being able to publish. Since I upgraded to iLife 08 when I click "visit site" I get a web page that says the site doesn't exist. Yet when I go to my bookmark that I have for my site it shows up. The addresses are different. The address that iWeb is trying to go to is http://web.mac.com/username/site/page.html. My actual site address is: http://web.mac.com/username/iWeb/site/page.html.
Is iWeb somehow confused? I did at one time copy off iWeb and delete the site of my iDisk and tried to publish all, but that didn't work, so I copied the site back to my iDisk.

  • How can I solve this publishing error in iWeb?

Suddenly, when I try to publish in iWeb, I get the following error message:
    Publish error:
Can't create the file "site/home.html." The disk may be damaged or full, or you must not have sufficient access privileges
Well, I have a Mac Pro tower, loaded with plenty of space and my disk definitely isn't damaged. Go Daddy (my host) first told me it might be a firewall problem and to contact my internet provider, which I did. But they told me there were no outgoing firewalls. So I went back to go Daddy, who reset all my permissions, but I still got the same iWeb message listed above when I tried to publish. Go Daddy was able upload my files at their end as a test, which means the problem is right here with my iWeb.
    Anyone have any ideas?

  • Publish error on iweb 3.0.1

I am having trouble publishing to my mobileme domain. I keep getting the +publish error, unknown error+ message. I recently upgraded to snow leopard. Anyone know what is causing the problem. I've deleted my domain and created it twice already.

Welcome to the discussions. This Apple doc mentions that error:

...If that doesn't help, MobileMe live chat support is now 24/7 — see this announcement. Other Apple support options are here.

  • Sudden publishing error on iWeb 06

I have updated my site since MobileMe kicked in, no problem. Now I'm getting this Publishing Error since I upgraded to 10.4.11:
"Can’t create the file “shapeimage3_link0.png.” The disk may be damaged, full, or you may not have sufficient access privileges."
    I'm lost here...

Deborah ~ Your Public Profile settings in this thread imply you have downgraded from Mac OS X (10.4.11) to Mac OS X (10.4.7). On a Mac, MobileMe requires the latest versions of Mac OS X 10.5 or Mac OS X 10.4.11 (use Software Update to update to the latest versions). See this _.Mac to MobileMe transition FAQ_. And if you're not on the latest version of iWeb 1.x, Software Update should offer you its latest update also.
After updating to 10.4.11 (again!) and the latest iWeb 1.x, you may still see references to .Mac — particularly in System Preferences. According to the FAQ above, this is normal for Mac OS X 10.4.11. You can continue to use .Mac preferences.
    Deborah Zari wrote:
Will it automatically publish to MobileMe since .Mac is now gone?
Yes — because .Mac doesn't exist to publish to. (Although MobileMe could well be on the same physical servers as .Mac was on.)
    Deborah Zari wrote:
At some point I need to upgrade to '08, but I'll need to find complete, clear instructions on how to go about it.
Once you've installed iWeb '08 and opened it, you'll be invited to make your existing site (domain file) compatible with it. From there on, the short conversion process is automatic. You may find some differences in how your site looks in iWeb '08 (see here and here). If so, if you've made a backup copy of iWeb's key domain file and iWeb '06, you can continue to use them until you have resolved the issues with iWeb '08. And you'll want to preserve website comments when upgrading from iWeb 1.x to 2.0 — see here.

This is a band's website that I can't afford to lose.
See this Apple doc on How to back up MobileMe data. And besides the backup suggestions there, the free SuperDuper! can also be used to regularly create a bootable clone of your entire internal HD on an external drive:
    http://www.shirt-pocket.com/SuperDuper
...then if your internal HD fails, you re-boot with the Option key held down. Your Mac will start into Startup Manager, where you can use the arrow keys to select a Mac OS X volume to start from, i.e. your bootable clone from SuperDuper!. Besides the advantage of not losing any valuable data, you can continue working and use Disk Utility app in Applications > Utilities to diagnose the problem.
And, as mentioned before, this free SMARTReporter may give you an early warning of impending hard drive failure:

  • Please Apple...we're very tired of "Publish Error" on iWeb

Over the past two days, we've all grown very tired of "PUBLISH ERROR: Mac account credentials validation failed for account."
Is there a reason for the problem you could perhaps share with us? Are you applying all possible resources to correcting the problem immediately? Many people are depending on this service to work correctly.

  • Getting "Publishing Error" trying to update website, please help.

New to this and love iWeb so far. Successfully loaded www.cruisingblueheavens once or twice or several times but today getting this error message: "Can’t create the file “mwmac.png.” The disk may be damaged or full, or you may not have sufficient access privileges." I originally thought by saying "OK"to this I was bypassing this error and making updates anyway, but not true. Previous error was related to "PSCN0479.jpg" and I cropped and re-copied the new photo of ourselves and got past that.  Now I have no idea why or where I might have a .png file but the update doesn't get past the first few seconds of the Welcome page.  What's wrong and/or what's the work-around? I have 3.04 version, the latest supposedly.
    Thank you in advance

  • Publishing Errors in IWeb 1.1.1

I recently installed iWeb for the first time. I published my first site with little or no problems, a few days later I decided to add pages. Everytime I tried to publish to .mac I got an Unknown Publishing error. I have trawled the forums and this problem seemed to be an issue for 1.1 with the fix to update to 1.1.1. As I am already on 1.1.1 I am unsure what else I can do. I even deleted the saved site on my Powerbook and tried to publish a single blank page (to discount fonts, images etc.) that too gave me the same error. I have logged a support call with Apple but as yet have not received a response...........any suggestions?

Well, there's not really an answer to your problem. So many people here have described some kind of error or another it's hard to narrow things down to one cause. But there are a couple of things that you can try. See if any of these steps helps you out...
    1. Delete the iWeb preferences file called "com.apple.iWeb.plist" inside the .../Users/Library/Preferences/... folder.
    2. Delete the iLife Media Browser preferences file called "com.apple.iLifeMediaBrowser.plist" inside the .../Library/Preferences/... folder.
    3. Delete the iWeb application. Reinstall from the original iLife'06 DVD or your recovery disks. Update directly to iWeb 1.1.1 using Software Update.
    4. Repair your disk permissions using Disk Utility
    5. Restart your computer and try to publish before launching any other applications.
    6. Try a different internet connection.
Definitely backup your Domain file before doing anything drastic. This one file contains all the info iWeb needs to know about your websites so that you can continue to edit them in iWeb. So don't lose this file!
If you have found any of this information to be useful to you, please take the time to provide me with feedback by marking my reply as "solved" or "helpful" using those little buttons that you see in the title bar of this reply. I'd really appreciate it!
