Constantly losing data connection

I have seen this many times all over the place but still can't find the answer.  We have 2 thunderbolts in our family and both phones do the same thing.  Says I have 4G but as soon as I open an app or try to use data it loses the data connection.  I have to retry several times before it will connect.  It gets to the point of rebooting the phone which doesn't even work all of the time.  This has happened so much that it almost makes this brick unusable.
PLEASE I'm begging anyone for an answer.  I have tried updates and phone settings....  I know I'm not the only one with this problem.

First, let me just say that I love the HTC Thunderbolt.  It does have a few quirks, I'll admit, but so do Microsoft products, yet, millions of people buy them with a general understanding that there can be glitches here or there.  For some reason, the general population just deals with them - probably because they don't have much choice.
Ok, so for the issue at hand, here's what I've seen happen on my device.
4G LTE can be intermittent - at my house and at my office.
There are 'dead spots' in my house, but overall very strong coverage in my house as well.  There's an area in my house where I know not to bother using 4G.  I switch to wifi if I need to use data.
Facebook is one of the apps which has the most issues for me.  The 4G LTE indicator blinks off, Facebook app searches for data, and a 'Signal Lost' message pops up.
Last week, I went to use 4G for video stream using my HTC Incredible 4G (which is only about 6 weeks old) at lunch time in my office.  Guess what - with an entirely different phone, 4G blinked off!  I was using Netflix at that time in an area where it's known that we have a very strong 4G LTE signal.
So I mention this because the intermittency isn't an easy issue to solve because there are so many factors that can cause sporadic behavior.  It could be the network, your location, your phone's electronic circuit board or the battery cover which contains the antenna for the phone, or the app you're using or even a combination of each.
As for big blue...  I have a corporate iPhone which has 4G.  It's not nearly as fast as the VZ phones, including my personal iPhone on Verizon's network.  The data and the phone with big blue seem very reliable, but the speed is so stinkin' slow, there's absolutely no way whatsoever, I'd personally consider moving to big blue.  But even this issue could be area dependent, phone dependent and location dependent.  Perhaps if I went out of town and used another cell tower in a big city, I might see faster data.
So what's a person to do?  My recommendation is to not bad mouth a company for not being able to fix every reported problem in the universe.  Attempting to fix every reported problem would take such an enormous amount of resources, none of us would be able to afford any plan because the costs associated with this sort of troubleshooting are extremely high.  There comes a point where it simply doesn't make sense to invest time and money into problem.
But, living in America means you can start a petition and if you get enough people to sign it, you're very likely to get attention.  There are petitions out there for things users want cell phone manufacturers and network providers to consider.  You could consider starting one and seeing if the problems are affecting a large enough user community to have Verizon prioritize a fix.  It's free and one of our constitutional rights and it does no harm to Verizon's future business by turning potential customers away who may have had a perfectly good experience using Verizon's product offerings and their network.  Just because one person had a bad experience, doesn't mean the guy or gal sitting next to him or her will be guaranteed to have the same issues.
Two people who participate in forums online were sitting side by side in the same building location with the exact same phone model.  One person couldn't get a 4G LTE signal and the other had one.  The same happens between the two Thunderbolt phone models in my household but I'm not planning to leave VZ any time in the near future.  I've tried all providers and for me, the best choice is clearly Verizon.
With that said, I feel strongly that customers who pay for service, should be able to receive the service - no doubt.  Best of luck to you!  I hope you're able to find a suitable choice, here or elsewhere.

Grrrrr.....makes me miss my stupid PC set up as I could force it to do what I want!
Intermittent connection screws up Netflix, VOIP phone, Amazon, Streaming music via Spotify/Pandora, general internet access.....whole family is ****** off.
    Any tips/tricks/ideas???
    dave

Downgrade firmware to 7.6.1 .. as the latest is just lousy.
It is easy to downgrade.. hold down the option key whilst you click the version number. in Macs.. lots of stuff is hidden behind an option key.
I also strongly recommend a factory reset and use all SMB names.. not apple type names..
    ie TC name.. TCgen4
Wireless name TCwifi (or give names to both bands.. TC24ghz and TC5ghz).
That helps all the non-apple part of the world.. connect.
Also Mavericks has now changed over to SMB as well. So even Mac is now windows networking.
Generally these two things. .7.6.1 firmware and SMB names will fix it.. if not post again as is another step that is possible.. controlling the WAN speed of the TC.

  • Nokia 701 Losing Data Connection

I've had the 701 for almost a month and for the most part its worked very well. But a few days ago I noticed it was taking forever to connect to the internet. Often, it times out and says a connection cannot be made. This affects everything that is trying to use the internet - Email, Nokia Maps, Web, etc. Wifi works brilliantly. This is strictly a issue with initiating and maintaining a 3g connection.
A not-so-ideal solution i found is to open the web browser and wait to get a connection. This usually takes about 5 minutes to happen if it happens at all. Another interesting thing thats happening is after I finally do make a connection, and then close down the app accessing the internet, my 3G connection still shows as active. When in the past it did not.
Has anyone else run into this problem? And more importantly...is there a solution?

    Update
Did a hard reset of my 701 and that did not fix the problem.
This morning, I deleted all of the access points except for my 3G data. Since then I've had a very reliable data connection. But as soon as I introduce wifi access points, I lose all reliability for 3G. Sometimes I have data, sometimes I don't.
This is so odd, you'd think the reset would have fixed it. I don't see others on this forum with the same problem.
Is it possible this is a hardware issue?

  • IPhone 5c losing data connectivity

I have an iPhone 5c; I have lost data connectivity but I still have phone and wireless ability.  I have tried turning my phone on and off and I have reset my networks. Neither has helped.  As well I checked online and did all updates for my phone.  My sone also has an iPhone 5c and his phone has also lost data.

    Contact your carrier.

  • IPhone 4s losing data connection multiple times/day

It seems about 3-4 times/day, my new iphone 4s will lose data connectivity. The phone will show full bars and the 3G icon appears, but I cannot access a data connection - email continuously loads, safari / facebook app / weather channel app all time out. As soon as I reboot, it works fine. This is getting really really annoying. Anyone else experiencing this or have a fix?? Thinking of returning it.

    My Problem Detailed
I have been having this same problem for months. To be more specific, it happens whether I'm on 3G or WiFi. Back before iOS5 when I was on 3G, I could simply turn off 3G and turn it back on, but now with iOS 5, it is turning Airplane Mode on/off only, which like everyone else fixes the problem only temporarily.
    Attempted Failed Solutions
It has transcended hardware and SIM cards. It was happening on my iPhone 4 and when I moved to the 4s, it was still there. So, it's most likely not the phone itself. I also swapped out SIM cards. That also didn't do the trick. That leaves me to one last idea...
    Last Possible Solution
It's gotta be the software. Some app or process is hacking away at the connection, possibly hogging all of the connection. This was the  Apple Store's original guess too (before I upgraded phones or swapped SIM cards). Their recommendation is to restore the phone with the base OS and not from backup. Then without adding any apps, make sure that it works fine (for possibly a day or two). Then start adding apps back one at a time. Has anyone tried this yet? With so much setup, I am hesitant to try this without knowing if it will solve it.
    Alternative Solutions
If it is software, possibly we all have a common app/process that few have. Maybe we can all compare what we have. Unfortunately, my app count is still over 100 even after deleting more than half of my apps. Does anyone else have any ideas? I'd love to figure this out as it is extremely frustrating as you all know.

  • Canon Pixma 922 constantly losing network connection

I own a Canon Pixma 922 and from the very start I have been having issues with the netrworking staying connected.
My network is a simple 3 computer connected to a D-link 655 router with WPS abilities.
before this printer I had a very similar, older model. I set that up once, after purchase and until it finally gave up the ghost it remained connected solidly to all the computers in the house, including laptops that connected once a month if that. Power went out several times and it remained reliably connected.
The new Pixma 922 instead disconnects from the network several times a day. The record so far has been 3 whole days without the need to reset it. Otherwise the moment we try to print and the print job is not running, we just go to the rpouter, press the WAP button and quickly reset the network. After that it will work reliably for a few hours until the next time (usually later in the day).
I don;t need to point out how disappointed I am. For me it's rather easy to reset, but my wife is constantly aggraved by it (as if I designed it) and my daughter always forget how to do it and has to wait for me.
I have been unable to find similar posts to this one, so I assume it's not an endemic problem. But is there a way to fix it or at least troubleshoot it?

I have never experienced that, but I am not surprised.
in my case I am now able to print from  my win 64 PC, my Mac Mini, my wife's win 7/32bit laptop (which was really the huge headache for me) and from my toilet paper roll if I'd ever bother to connect it.
Compared to the hell we went through for more than a year, pressing the friggin button, reconnecting the printer twice or more a day. My router is, of course, in a corner where I have to climb over a desk and behind a shelving system just to press that silly button. Compared to that, this is heaven. It hasn't lost its connection since the day I switched.
My mistake was to assume that Canon changed the way connections worked and that this was the new way to do it. I didn't realize it was an additional "easy" (for whom, I wouldn't know) connection method.
I guess after keeping udated on JS, PHP, Phyton, HTML, HTML5, XHTML, CSS and CSS3, facebook, twitter, gmail, analytics, google this and that, and more, I had little brainpower left to really think about this.
I am just happy that it works. It seems like a minor miracle each time I print  something. I want to drop on my knees and shout Hallelujah! (and I have been an atheist for almost 50 years)
    Good luck to you all.

  • When two Computers are online at the same time, constantly losing internet connection

I recently added a WRT160N router to my PC for a wireless Laptop elswhere in the house as well as adding a new network adapter card to my PC. When both the Laptop and the PC are online at the same time I am constantly getting booted offline and having to reset the connection, but when just the PC is on there are no prbloems and everything seems to work fine.
Any suggestions would be helpful, thanks in advance
    Andy

In this case i think you need to change some settings on your Router. Follow the steps below.
Open an Internet Explorer browser page on your wired computer(desktop). In the address bar type - 192.168.1.1 and press Enter...Leave username blank & in password use admin in lower case...
For Wireless Settings, please do the following : -
    Click on the Wireless tab
    - Here select manual configuration...Wireless Network mode should be mixed...
    - Provide a unique name in the Wireless Network Name (SSID) box in order to differentiate your network from your neighbours network...
    - Set the Radio Band to Standard-20MHz and change the Standard channel to 11-2.462GHz...Wireless SSID broadcast should be Enabled and then click on Save Settings...
Please make a note of Wireless Network Name (SSID) as this is the Network Identifier...
    For Wireless Security : -
Click on the Sub tab under Wireless > Wireless Security...
Change the Wireless security mode to WEP, Encryption should be 64 bit.Leave the passphrase blank, don't type in anything...Under WEP Key 1 type in any 10 numbers please(numbers only and no letters eg: your 10 digit phone number) and click on save settings...
Please make a note of WEP Key 1 as this is the Security Key for the Wireless Network...
    Click on Advanced Wireless Settings
Change the Beacon Interval to 75 >>Change the Fragmentation Threshold to 2304, Change the RTS Threshold to 2304 >>Click on "Save Settings"...
Now see if you can locate your Wireless Network and attempt to connect...

  • Constantly Losing Wifi Connection

This has been going on for quite some time.  The phone will be connected via wifi and I will look down and wifi is gone.  The router is still listed and listed as excellent strength.  All other devices work fine via the router.
Sometimes turning off power to router will reconnect the wifi, but not for vary long.
There is no consistency as to what causes it to lose connection.
This happens at all locations.  I also have a router at the school and I have the same problem.
Please help as this is QUITE frustrating.

Pettrainer, I can see why this would be so frustrating, especially when there is no common reason why it drops. Do you have a task killer or antivirus installed on your phone? If so, please uninstall. These could randomly stop processes from running in the background.
Do you notice if this issue happened after a software update or downloading a new application? Try also forgetting your WiFi networks and setting up again. If no change after these steps, I would recommend a factory reset http://bit.ly/P75GGe.

  • Is anyone being bothered by constantly losing ethernet connection?

it's driving me insane. i'm in full-bore troubleshooting mode.
any clues i can and/or should follow?

    it's losing it.
the cable guy has been here twice. at one point he was playing around on my computer waiting(again) for it to happen (again and again) and he turned to me and said "How can you stand this? It's driving me crazy now too."
then he talked with the Apple specialist at the cable place who said i had to contact apple because i shouldn't be losing ethernet, and he knew i was. so i contacted apple who told me to update to the current os (10.5.11) and I told him I was afraid to and he knew I had a previous complaint about 10.5.10 and was back on .8 just for my own peace of mind, so i DID update without incident and STILL I keep losing Ethernet. It's ruining my life now. not just bothering me.
So, I will call Apple monday, after researching users between now and then so I don't feel alone or know that i am alone for the next troubleshooting session. i have to get to the bottom of this because my warranty expires in Nov (I think...or maybe Dec.) and I am WAY TOO FAR from an Apple Store to take this lightly. I bought a laptop just because of the problem I had getting my desktop iMac fixed, which I miss, because it is CRT and as a graphic artist that is important to me and yet it is still broken.
The cable guy said "Worse comes to worse, if you go wireless, it won't matter any."
however, that might be a last resort AFTER my warranty expires and I'm stuck with a bum ethernet plug on my machine...which might be the case.??????

  • Constantly losing iCloud connection (lighting bolt in icon)

    Hi,
I am trying to do some major Library management, sorting out my Genres and so on.
However, I am finding that my connection 'to the cloud' is terrible. The cloud icon (next to Music, not per-track) is generally there and 'normal' there but as soon as a make a change it switches to the 'lightning bolt' icon and my change is not reflected in the Cloud.
When it works it's great. I collapsed some multi-disc compilations into 1 album and this change was almost instantly reflected on my iPhone. However my connection to whatever that cloud symbol represents appears to be awful, and there's no diagnostics available (other than for Windows…)
This is very, very frustrating as I consider my Mac's library 'authoritative' whereas The Benign And Magnificent Apple has decided that the Cloud is always right and my painstaking changes can be discarded. Because the symbol is generally 'OK' I can't even delay making changes until I know it's working, I just have to make a small change and see what Mr Icon says.
I have tried (over and over…)
Sign out and in to iTunes Match
Sign out of Apple ID and back in
    Update iTunes Match
None seem to make any difference. My fundamental problem is my inability to diagnose why this connection is so poor, when Apple's Status pages claim no issues their end.
    Any suggestions?
10.8.5 on a Late-2012 Mini running iTunes 11.4 - I'm aware of Mavericks but I have reasons to delay upgrade.

I've had this problem as well although not all the time.  It's getting pretty frustrating between issues like this and now all of the issues with iOS8. It's like they've totally forgotten about iTunes and the music app which is the foundation for the iphone to begin with!

  • Losing midi connection from PC2 controller

Logic is constantly losing midi connection with my MTP AV. Logic 9.0.2 OSX 10.6.8.... I have updated motu drivers, replaced usb cable to MTP, tried
different usb inputs to MacPro. I can see midi getting to the MTP but logic doesn't see it after midi dropout. Problem can be fixed by resetting midi
devices but irritating to have to do it every five minutes. Anyone else having this problem?
    Thanks for any help.

    I have a similar problem.
I am sending midi from macbookpro (10.6.8), via motu828, to an iMac (10.6.8) via a midisport.
The midisport always sees the midi input data, but I regularly loose the data within the iMac.
Rescanning the MIDI system reconnects to the incoming midi data but this it troublesome when performing.

  • IOS8 ipad2 - Losing 3g connectivity

I have an iPad 2 through AT&T.  I am constantly losing 3G connectivity.  I have to "power it off" and back on to reestablish my cellular data service.  Airplane mode will not work. Has anyone else seen this problem..??  It is random and I have yet to find out if there is any combinations of apps that could cause this problem.
    David

Since upgrading to iOS 8.0.2 (I did not upgrade to 8 or 8.0.1), I have had the same issues with my cellular service dropping that others are reporting.  I also powered off and restarted my iPad 2 to get service back.
But, I remembered a prior problem with iOS and Wi-Fi and tried the workaround for that old issue and it worked.  When the iPad shows no cellular service, go into Settings, Language and Region, and change your language to some other language than your default.  Then after the language change, go back in and switch it  back.  Cellular service restored.  It takes me less time than powering off and rebooting.
I do not know if this will help dropped or hung Wi-Fi sessions but would not be surprised given that this was a workaround for an old Wi-Fi issue.  Since doing this on my iPad 2 I have not dropped cellular coverage but I expect the issue to return.
I have no idea why language settings are tied to or affect cellular or Wi-Fi but they have in the past and apparently they still do.

  • Losing network connection (phone, text, data)

For the past couple of weeks I have had problems losing my network connection affecting phone calls, text messages and data access. The problems seem to be occurring more frequently, and have not been able to identify a consistent pattern yet.
Phone: On 2-3 occasions recently, I have had calls dropped.  I see that I have no [phone] network connection.  In each case I've been in a location where I frequently make calls.  Twice this was while on a major freeway in the SF Bay Area.  In each case I do get a signal back, but it takes several minutes until I re-acquire a signal.
Text:  On multiple occasions (3-4 in the past week), I have tried to send text messages from my office (in San Jose), where I have not had problems in the past.  After waiting for several minutes to re-acquire a signal, I re-booted my phone and my text messages were sent as soon as the phone re-booted.  Note:  changing the phone to airplane mode and then off, did not resolve the problem.
Data:  On multiple occasions (8-10 times in the past couple of weeks), I noticed that my phone shows "4G", but no arrows and I have no data access (i.e. no access via web browser, can't use any email apps, can't use any apps that use data access).  Once I lose the data connection, it never re-acquires the network even after moving and/or waiting in excess of an hour.  The only way to re-acquire data is to re-boot my phone.
This seem to have started 2-3 weeks ago, but definitely getting worse over the past week - very, very frustrating!
Using Samsung S4, running Android 4.4.2.  I don't recall installing any new apps or new O/S versions in the past couple of weeks, though many updates auto-installed.

I tried removing/replace the Sim card.  Still have the problem.
I got really frustrated with this and after spending over an hour on the phone with technical support and then with Assurion, I got them to replace my  phone, with a replacement S4.   Spent another couple of hours getting my phone reconfigured, including having to spend another half an hour on the phone with technical support because the new phone wasn’t activating on the network.   And, still have the same problem on two consecutive days where the phone hangs when I try to make a call at the end of the day.  (Though I had been able to make a couple of calls during the day).
    So:
    ·         It fails in safe mode
    ·         It fails if I set the network to LTE/CDMA rather than Global
    ·         It fails after re-seating the Sim card
    ·         It fails with a replacement device
What’s going on?  How do I fix this?

  • Wireless Keyboard Constantly Losing Connection

I have been having trouble with my wireless keyboard for awhile now. It constantly loses the connection to my iMac.

Similar problem here -- keyboard has brand new batteries. I go into System Preferences -> Keyboard -> Set up Wireless Keyboard. It shows the "searching" and wait cursor. If I hold the power button on the keyboard, the light will turn green, and then it will flash, and as it's flashing the computer will say "keyboard found". If I hit the "Continue" button in time, it will show 100% on the battery charge when it gets back to the main screen, but within 5-20 seconds the keyboard will disconnect, giving a "Connection lost" message
