Constantly Rendering

I finished a video and was able to do most of the editing with out rendering. Then I added lots of color corrections and Magic Bullet filters. I was able to work in a flow that keep the rendering to concentrated blocks of time that didn't interrupt my day too much.
Now I am cutting down the same video for a shortened version, and as I cut out and ripple my edit I am constantly re-rendering everything. This is not a new issue, but it makes working in Final Cut almost unbearable for simple jobs like this. The re-edit should not be so painful. I could disable all my effects, but that would also require re-rendering. This is HD footage on a SD timeline, so anytime clips overlap, even if there is no opacity issues or transfer modes, I am having to render. I lay down clips, then add B-roll on top, you guessed it, I have to render.
Apple needs to deal with this issue ASAP. The Avid DS has a brilliant caching system, if Final Cut had a system half as brilliant it would be a major improvement.

I have considered Premier, since my usual workflow relies heavily on AfterEffects, and even with AutoDuck and FCP, Premier round trips AE projects so much better.
That was until I bought Shake. The FCP Shake round trip is pretty good (could use improvement) and shake is much more powerful than AE. It's drawback is it's rather steep learning curve.
It all depends on where I am working, as a freelancer I have to maintain my own system and often adapt to other places. For this job, done at a facility, I did everything in the timeline as it wasn't a big graphics piece, and the magic bullet plugins looked great. But all the re-rendering was a big issue, and if the clients had attended the session, it would not have flied.
I work on Avid's too, DS, MC... I have been doing this for over 15 years so you always have to adapt. I was also an early adopter of FCP for semi-pro purposes. Now it's pretty mainstream, and I believe if they are serious about Final Cut Server / SAN editorial, they need to get serious about improving the Final Cut Pro software to a truly high-end system. I would pay more for the features it already provides over other systems, like Avid which are based on proprietary codecs and naming conventions. The openness of QT is superior. However, *I would certainly see the value added to have a "DS-like" render cache protocol.*
Perhaps a failing of Apples was to segment their editing software into 3 tiers; iMovie, FCE, FCP studio. When FC first came out, it was pretty groundbreaking, and it has improved slowly, but they should really put the "Pro" into the FCP.
Thanks for listening.

Recently I purchased a tv show on iTunes, when playing it through apple TV it constantly renders while playing on the Samsung tv which takes forever too watch.
Hope someone can advise if I am doing something wrong.
My laptop is directly under the tv however my modum is in another room so it is operating through Wifi.
    Thank you

Restart all devices and the router to see if it helps.  May or may not.
If you Purchased in iTunes on the laptop ensure you are playing back on AppleTV via the Computers icon not under the main TV Shows icon which will reload from the web.
I would move the laptop away from the TV in case it's causing interference to teh wifi though clearly an AppleTv might have the same issue but is designed to sit next to the TV.
If you were playing via Computers and it's still slow you could connect an ethernet cable between AppleTv and laptop, keep wifi on the laptop for internet via the router, and enable intrenet sharing over ethernet in System Preferences > Sharing so AppleTV can do an internet authorisation.  Hopefully restarting iTunes/router will just do the trick though.
Do you have any non-Apple security software eg NetBarrier, if so try disabling to see if it was detecting AppleTV as an intrusion threat due to multiple connection attempts.

  • Every clip needs rendering once in timeline

This is a new problem. I dealt with my last short project by constantly rendering. This is a bigger project, so I really need to get back to the old way of doing things where you can drop a clip into the timeline and it's ready to go, and you can slide it this way and that without re-rendering.
Why are all my clips needing to be rendered when I place them into the timeline???
    Thanks.

#28 Having to render every clip in the timeline
Shane's Stock Answer #28: When I put a clip in the timline, I have to render it before it will play. Why?
Your clip settings MUST match your timeline settings. If you have DV/NTSC material, you need a DV/NTSC timeline. The frame rate, audio rate and dimensions (4:3, 16:9) all need to match exactly. In Final Cut Pro 6, this is easy, because when you drop a clip into the timeline, it asks if you want to set up the timeline to match the settings of the first clip you drag into it. Click YES and you are ready to go.
However, in FCP 5.1 and earlier, it is a bit trickier.
The most important thing you need to do is properly set up your project from the start, and the best way to do this is to choose a setting from the Easy Setups, located under the Final Cut Pro menu.
Once you do this, you’ll need to create a new sequence. This is because the sequence that is already in your new project is setup for the typical default setting of DV/NTSC, or for the settings of your last project, which might not match what you are currently working with. So delete SEQUENCE 1 and create a new sequence:
This new sequence will contain the settings you chose in the Easy Setup menu, and should match the format you captured.

  • Easy Setup

    Hello,
I'm trying to figure out which easy setup format to choose. I initially had a dvd with vhs footage. Via Toast I converted it to an mpeg-4 format(640x480). 29.97 fps. In the drop down list I don't see mpeg as an option. I've been constantly rendering the clips. Fun!
    Thanks for your help
    Cue

Hello, and welcome to the Apple Discussion forums.
You need to convert the DVD video to QuickTime using either +Apple DV/DVCPRO NTSC+ or +Apple Intermediate Codec+ compression. I do not believe Toast can do that. And in any event MPEG4 is not the right kind of video to edit in FCE.
Most people in this forum use MPEG Streamclip (free) to convert DVD video for editing in FCE. (Note: you will also need the QuickTime MPEG2 Component if you do not already have it on your Mac. $20, downloadable from the Apple Online Store.)
With footage that was originally VHS, you probably have standard 4:3 aspect ratio video (ie, not widescreen), in which case +QuickTime - Apple DV/DVCPRO NTSC+ would be the proper conversion in MPEG Streamclip. In FCE you would use the +DV NTSC+ easy setup for this video.

  • ITunes 10.5.2.11 APSDaemon.exe Win XP

I recently purchased a new iPad2 for my wife for her Birthday.  I wanted to sync it with my Windows Computer.  I downloaded iTunes 10.5.2.11 to my Windows XP Computer with the following specs:
OS Name            Microsoft Windows XP Professional
    Version            5.1.2600 Service Pack 3 Build 2600
    System Model            P4X400-8235
    FSB 400 MHz
    System Type            X86-based PC
    Processor            x86 Family 15 Model 1 Stepping 2 GenuineIntel ~1792 Mhz
BIOS Version/Date            Phoenix Technologies, LTD 6.00 PG, 12/4/2003
    SMBIOS Version            2.2
    Mother Board  Biostar U8798P Ver.1.5 Socket 478
    System Manufacturer            VIA Technologies, Inc.
    Hardware Abstraction Layer   Version = "5.1.2600.5512 (xpsp.080413-2111)"
    RAM                                      2X 1024 DDR RAM PC3200 184 Pin
    Total Physical Memory            2,048.00 MB
    Available Physical Memory            1.12 GB
    Total Virtual Memory            2.00 GB
    Available Virtual Memory            1.96 GB
Since installing iTunes APSDaemon.exe is using 98% of CPU resources almost constantly rendering the computer unusable.  I understand it is used for the Sync process (Push) for the iPad.  The iPad will not sync either over Wi-Fi or by USB connection to my computer.
The computer has no Malware on it, if PC Tools Internet Security Full Scan and their Alternate Operating System Scanner Scan as well as Malware Bytes Scanner is any indication.  When I disable APSDaemon.exe with the Task Manager, The computer runs fine but of course will not sync with the iPad.
I have purchased many Apple Mac computers and a Apple Lisa in the past for use in my office.  I have personally owned an Original Mac, Mac SE and Mac II.  I still run Filemaker Pro and Claris Works on this computer.  The most memorable part of these purchases was their ease of use, software stability and ease of networking.  The iPad2 3G with 64 GB was purchased because we live in a rural area with dial up internet.  It is approximatly an 18 mile drive to the nearest Mac Donalds to a Wi-Fi hot spot.  The iPad is not allowed to download large Apps over 3G by Apple, you must have Wi-Fi apparently.  Our banking app is abt 50 MB.  I was able to down load it to my computer over dial up internet but can neither sync it to her iPad or download it to her iPad over 3G.  My Linksys Wireless-G Broadband Router is working properly because usning FingerPrint on the Windows XP Computer  I am able to print either to the HP LaserJet5 which is cable connected to the network or to the HP DeskJet 870 Cxi connected directly to the computer from the iPad.
The ipad2 was so user friendly that we had to make a 60 mile trip to Dallas to the Apple store where they had Wi-Fi to get it set up to see the home screen.  Very un-Mac (Apple) like.
I realize my computer is old but works well.

Refer this article to reset Winsock to it's default.  Your PCTools may have inserted LSP.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4123?viewlocale=en_US
After reset and restarting windows, you may get a prompt to remap LSP, click no.

  • Olympus E-5

How come I can't edit Olympus E-5 videos natively in FCP?
I need to render each clip overtime. Can anyone help me out...

    >How come I can't edit Olympus E-5 videos natively in FCP?
You failed to let us know what format the camera records in ... but just guessing, I'd say it was because the camera records in a format that doesn't work with FCP, like H.264 or other MPEG-4 variant.
To keep from constantly rendering in FCP, convert the camera's footage to a format that works in FCP natively.

  • Compatibility with Canon T2i

I'm trying to get Final Cut Express 4 to play nice with my new Canon T2i, but so far it's been pretty difficult. The Canon shoots 1920x1080 at 24 and 30 fps and, as I understand it, compresses its files in the H.264 format. I've read that I need to transcode this format to one that is more easily edited in FCE, and most of the boards I've seen recommend Apple Intermediate Codec to do the job. I'm using MPEG Streamclip to render my clips in the new codec, but my problem is that no matter how I transcode the clips, I cannot edit in FCE without constantly rendering. I try changing the footage to Apple Intermediate Codec, to 30 fps, then to the perhaps-more-accurate 29.97 fps, then down to 720p, then to any other codec etc. No dice. I have yet to find a clip that FCE can use without rendering. What am I doing wrong? Thanks.

Part of the problem is that the Canon DSLRs actually shoot in 30fps, meaning literally 30.00fps, while FCE is set up for 29.97. I edited some footage from the previous model, the T1i, and I was able to have partial success using MPEG Streamclip, but some rendering will need to be done somewhere in your travels because FCE doesn't have a preset for 30.00 or 24.00fps video like that DSLR shoots.
But I will also say that we don't know what your sequence settings are. Are they set up to exactly match the frame size you shot in? You have the right idea with the Apple Intermediate Codec, that's the right codec.
If you can spring for it, Final Cut Pro/Studio will serve you better with the DSLRs and the custom frame rates, I believe. But FCE can do it, there just will be some rendering involved...

  • I have a 4th gen itouch and final cut pro 7.0.

What Sequence Preset can I utilize to input the video from the itouch without constantly rendering?
And if there is no preset that works, what custom sequence info can i input to make the timeline work with the itouch format?
And if that does not work, what is the simplest/easiest solution in converting the itouch formatted video into editable format for FCP?
I've tried finding information on this but it seems fairly difficult so any help would be greatly appreciated!

The media won't work in FCP. Use Compressor to convert it to QuickTime ProRes LT.

  • FCP Slow runner

I have FCP 7, it has been great but has just started needing to be rendered even for adjusting a still shot. Not sure if its me imac or not. Nothing has changed hardware or software wise... should I wipe my imac and start again. It's only 2 years old but has done a lot of editing work. I use an external drive for FCP batch capture folders.
Please help as it's slower than a slow thing on a slow day with slowness involved...
    regards
    Steve

I understand the difference, the video in question is a re-edit of a 3 hour in-house promotional film for a night club which includes stills and video.
I've not had these problems before when making and previous re-edits of the film, this is why I put the question out. The timeline seems to want to be constantly rendered on things it didn't need to before including a basic cross dissolve. I know rendering is essential at some point but not continuously. It's as if I've taken the film off this mac and put it into a much older model.

  • Localconnection intermittent error #2044

    localconnection intermittent error #2044
    Hi,
Im getting the above error intermittently when I send data via a local connection.
More often than not the first few packages send then it starts to fail.
If I don't have a StatusEvent listener active I get the error #2044
If I start listening for it with statusEvent I stop getting the error appearing but then the connection is still dead.
I thought It could be something to do with the amount of data I'm sending in one send... I think the max is 40kb or something.
But now I've stripped it right back to just "triggering" a method in my reciever swf and im still getting the 2044 error.
Both swfs are sat on a local machine. They will be standalone, not in a browser.
Both swfs have lots of stuff to do. Their always rendering stuff to screen, downloading graphics ect...
I wondered if its the amount of other processors that are going on? Maybe it caunt cope.

                                  txt.appendText("trigger");
    [/CODE]
    Any Ideas?
    Thanks
    Aidan

    HI,
No browser involved just two standalone swf files.
so if I comment out my statusevent listener I get this error pop up...
    Error #2044: Unhandled StatusEvent:. level=error, code=
As a test Im currently  triggering....
    LCSend.send("testData", "testReciever");
    ... On a button press.
I consistintently pressed it for 10 minutes this morning without getting the error. I then restart the two swfs and I start gettting the error.
Both swfs have many tasks on the go, constantly rendering content to the screen.
Ive noticed that any animations start to juter and slow down when I press the test button to send the trigger for testReciever.
    Thanks

  • Photos constantly re-rendering during viewing.

    Hi all,
Since upgrading to Aperture 3, I've noticed that clicking through the photos in my project causes the "loading" indicator to come up for every photo. This used to happen in the Aperture 2, but once the photo loaded once, it was as if the system created a permanent full-size preview of it so it never needed to load again. In Aperture 3, on the other hand, photos load and re-load almost every time I visit them, whether within the same working session or after closing and reopening the app. It's as if the app is throwing out what it renders every time.
This is also an issue when working in Zoom to Actual Size view, as I pan around the image every area I stop on is fuzzy and must re-render. This cripples my workflow and makes it take absurdly long to check out each image.
Does Aperture no longer save the renders of images? I have "Don't limit" selected for photo preview size in preferences. In 2, that seemed to cause the app to render a permanent full-res version of each photo so I could happily zip through them.
I'm on a first gen MacBook, 2GHz Core Duo with 2GB Ram, I know that is hardly ideal (waiting and waiting and waiting for Mac Pros to be refreshed!) but the last version of Aperture worked really well and Photoshop is still quite fast. My OS is 10.6.4 and all updates to Aperture are applied.
    Any clues?

Aperture 3 caches a handful of rendered images as you browse around, but I think how many it keeps around is subject to the amount of free RAM it has to work with. Depending on what else is going on in your system (and Aperture itself gobbles more RAM than before) the program may be caching fewer images than it used to, requiring "Loading..." them from disk more often. It likely discards Least Recently Used images when its cache limit is reached.
Is browsing in Quick Preview mode poky as well? If so, as part of the library upgrade to Aperture 3, your preview images may have been regenerated at a larger size - I've heard of stranger things happening in A2-A3 library upgrades. Larger previews will obviously take longer to load and slow you down and the ones in your library may be bigger than necessary for your MacBook display. I've found the best sharpness for preview images comes when you hit about 130% of your display's resolution and I knock the Quality setting down to an acceptable 7 to reduce file size.

  • FCPX constantly backing up and rendering issues.

FCPX makes an automatic backup of almost every single change I make. It's really slowing me down. Every clip I select and drop into the timeline is backed up and I have to wait for it to process or the program grinds to a halt. It's essentially backing up every few seconds as i work.
Also noticed that when i open a current project it re-renders the whole thing. And often sections of a project I'm in the middle of working on just suddenly start rendering again. I might make a change to a clip near the end and suddenly the first 30 clips start re-rendering.
Another rendering issue is when I have made a change to a part of a multicam clip, say a colour correction or added an effect etc. It won't render the change until I adjust the clip length and return it to normal. As in, stretch the clip out by +2 seconds then pull it back in -2 seconds, then the render will begin.
These problems are costing me a lot of time and money and would love to hear if anyone else has experienced similar and has solutions.
    FCPX 10.2  /  OSX Yosemite 10.10.3  /  iMac 27-Inch Late 2012, 3.4GHz, 32GB Ram, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680MX 2048MB, Fusion 3TB

Suggest that you download TimeTracker to reveal exactly what is being backed up on each pass.
    http://www.charlessoft.com/
The application is not fancy, and it will probably take 5-10 minutes to load depending on how much data you have on the Time Capsule.
Once you identify the file that is causing the bloat, you can elect to exclude that file from backups if it is not needed, using Time Machine Options.
It might be a backup history for your browser or something similar if you do not clear the history on a regular basis.
Please post with your results to share with other users who may be experiencing a similar issue.

  • Using mp4s in FCE-- constantly needs rendering

I had no trouble importing some mp4 files into Final Cut Express, but every time I drop something down into the timeline from the viewer, it needs to be rendered (both audio and video.) This is happening before anything is altered or given transisitions or effects. I figure that what might be causing this is the file type? Is there a way to convert these files into something Final Cut likes better?

Hello and welcome to the forum.
    You're correct.
Use MPEG Streamclip, a free utility (http://www.squared5.com/), to convert your MP4s to QuickTime files which match the settings of your FCE sequence.

  • Adobe Media Encoder pausing rendering while working in Premiere Pro

    Hello everyone,
So I am redering a video in Adobe Media Encoder and at the same time I am editing a new one in Premiere Pro.
I noticed that AME is constantly pausing the rendering and did not know why. It turns out that while I'm editing a video in Premiere Pro, I am constantly pressing the space bar to start/pause the video I'm editing. While I do that, AME keeps pausing/unpausing the rendering. Somehow, pressing the space bar in PP has an effect in AME.
I have no clue why it does that because the Premiere Pro window has the focus, not the AME one.
    Has anyone ever seen that?
I use Windows 8 and Adobe CC.

    Hi Rallymax,
Yes I do queue footage by having an Autowatch set up on the directories where the video is written to.  I rarely do a direct export unless testing new settings.
Don't take this as gospel but I too had a feeling that GPU acceleration didn't happen with AME, only direct export.  Not sure where that came from, I did watch some of the recent Adobe TV Web Seminar's about new features of CC products etc, so maybe on one of those?
I found this while trying to find out where I had seen it but it is from AMD site not Adobe so whether it's fully 100% correct I dunno:
    Adobe Media Encoder
The Adobe Media Encoder (AME), with support for OpenCL™ and GPU acceleration, automates the production of multiple encoded versions of source files, sequences, and compositions in Premiere Pro CC. With the GPU-accelerated AME and AMD graphics technology, editors can quickly encode projects and output files for virtually any destination. AMD GPUs handle the heavy lifting, freeing the system’s CPU to perform other functions.
I will try the same test as Jason, if I can find any AVHCD video and see what the results are.  Will be interesting.
