Some Nano's with iTMS podcasts installed will reset every time you push the center button, so get rid of all your podcasts.
After purging all podcasts, update with the latest updater. I am not sure if the podcast problem has been fixed with the most recent updater, but you could give it a try.

  • Constantly restarting Ipod

    Hello,
I've searched past threads looking for some help with this and so far I've found little information. Has anyone found anyway to solve this problem? After disconnecting my ipod from my computer it just started restarting itself and now it won't stop. I've tried holding down the select and menu button, as well as the play/pause and menu button, and nothing. Anyone have any info? Thanks

  • My iPod nano is constantly powering down then restarting. Any ideas?

My nano needs re charging every day as it won't turn itself off. Every time I switch it off it turns itself on again .

Doublechecking ... do you have the new iTunes 10.6.1.7 version ?
From the notes for the release:
iTunes 10.6.1 provides a number of improvements, including:
    • Fixes several issues that may cause iTunes to unexpectedly quit while playing videos, changing artwork size in Grid view and syncing photos to devices.
    • Addresses an issue where some iTunes interface elements are incorrectly described by VoiceOver and WindowEyes.
    • Fixes a problem where iTunes may become unresponsive while syncing iPod nano or iPod shuffle.
    • Resolves an ordering problem while browsing TV episodes in your iTunes library on Apple TV.

  • My ipod nano is not showing up on my computer or itunes when I plug it in.  I have reset it and restarted computer, I have also downloaded new itunes.  My other ipod shows up fine so I know its not the computer or cord.

My ipod nano 6th generation is not showing up when I plug it into the computer.  I have reset it and restarted the computer, I also have downloaded latest itunes.  My other ipod nano shows up so I know its not the cord or computer.  It is not showing up in itunes either.

That seems to be a clear indication of an issue with your iPod and not your PC or USB cable. Have you tried resetting the Nano with it still connected to your PC?

  • My ipod nano 6th gen is not recognized by any computers, I've tried restarting it, resetting it, restarting the computer, any number of stuff it says on here, but it is still unrecognized by either my computer or my roommate's computer.

    Hi all!
I have a 6th gen ipod nano. I wanted to sync it to get some new music onto it, but my computer won't recognize it. I've tried restarting it and resetting it numerous times, both plugged into the computer and not. I've confirmed that both the Apple Mobile Device service and iPod services are running. I've updated my itunes, I've updated my virus software (I highly doubt that is the problem, it's the same software I've always used and my iPod worked fine before) and I've tried any multitude of ******** "fixes" you can find in this forum or anywhere else on the web.
The ipod does charge when I plug it in, and I've tried 2 of my roommate's cords, so that isn't it either. My USB drivers are also up to date and work just find with anything else, including my printer, my cellphone, etc.
    so... anyone have any suggestions?
Oh, I'm also running a Dell Studio 15 laptop with Windows 7.

I'm not sure if it charged when I hooked it up to my roommate's computer, but it definately didn't register either. If I put it on the dock it plays so the port is fine, but that still doesn't help me sync it to my computer.

  • IPod Nano 5th Generation dead and gone forever? Tried every restart method possible

(skip to second paragraph if you want to get straight to the point)
Let me start out saying, my ipod is my everything. Yes I'm pathetic.
Anyway, this is my third iPod and my third nano. I bought it used because the news ones look annoying. But it was from a reliable seller and it worked/looked like new. I have had it for many months. Anyway, I have a bad habit of sleeping with it. I try to take it out before I doze off, but eh sometimes I forget. So this morning I wake up with it still in my ears and I take it out and accidently drop it (happens all the time to be honest). Wasn't a long or hard drop though. I go back to sleep, and wake up in an hour and plug it to my charger (like always). I go to add some more songs to it on my computer a few hours later and it won't even turn on.
The screen was blank and it wouldnt turn on at all. I plugged it into my computer, and iTunes didnt even recognize it. So having had an ipod nano for years, of course the first thing I did was restart it. And restart it. And restart it. With no results at all. It had been on the charger for hours, so it couldnt be dead. Anyway, I still let it charge with a blank screen. I googled loads on how to get it to start, and finally just tried messing with buttons. While it was plugged in to the computer, I pressed down menu and center (like you would to restart it) but for an abnormally long time. I am talking 2 minutes. And finally the computer recognized it. It asked to restore it and my heart sank because I have stuff on my ipod (200 songs) that were never backed up to my computer. And I dont know all 200 songs...ugh. Anywhooo...The screen said "Do not disconnect" but it looked older like the old nano's "do not disconnect" screen. And I let it restore, but it wouldnt? I forget why it said it couldnt (something mounted?) but it led me to a page that didnt help at all.
I unplugged it and it froze on that "do not disconnect" screen and so I tried several more times to restart it and do what I had just done previously (hoping it would restore), but it still just froze. I let it die out. Came back to it in 6 hours, and tried playing with it some more. I attempted to restart it about 8 more times and finally after holding down those buttons until my fingers calused, there was hope. The screen read "Connect to Charger" and it was the new modern looking screen message and image. I did as it told me, and connected to my iHome charger, but ugh it died out and it wouldnt restart. Came back to it in a hour and tried to restart it and finally I saw that lovely apple logo. And yep thats all I saw. It froze like that. And ten minutes later died out.
At this point I have a feeling there is no hope for it, but any tips would be lovely. Even a way to revover that lost music. Its not on my computer. I was dumb to put it straight on my ipod and not in my itunes library. Thank you for reading through this novel. Any help would be apprectiated.

I have the same iPod Nano and when it freezes, I press the menu and center button at the same time until the Apple logo apears. That should wake up your iPod Nano. Also, make sure the lock is off.

  • My ipod nano 7g went off and will not start, this happened after I connect to my computer, my ipod will restart and I no longer turn on. I do?

please help me my ipod nano 7g went off and will not start, this happened after I connect to my computer, my ipod will restart and I no longer turn on. what I do?

    Hey saintbless,
Thanks for the question. The following article outlines troubleshooting information for iPod nano. While it mostly refers to the 6th generation, most steps apply for your model as well:
iPod nano (6th generation): Hardware troubleshooting
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3474
Will not turn on or screen remains dark
    - Connect iPod to power for at least ten minutes to ensure that the battery has enough charge to allow iPod to turn on.
    - If iPod does not turn on after ten minutes, try resetting the device while it is still connected to power. Reset the iPod by holding down the Sleep/Wake button and the Volume Down button for at least eight seconds or until you see the Apple logo appear.
    - If the Apple logo appears on the display, connect iPod to a computer and verify that it appears in iTunes and can play music. If iPod appears in iTunes and can play music, no further troubleshooting is needed.
    - If the screen remains dark and will not turn on, then your iPod may need service.
    Thanks,
    Matt M.

  • I have a ipod nano shuffle, 6th gen.  I bought it when I had Windows Vista.  I upgraded to Windows Ultimate 7.  Now it keeps shutting off.  Have to press power button and touch arrow to restart.  3 to 4 times a song.  I ran diagnostics.  Passed until end.

Have iPod Nano Shuffle 6th Gen.  I purchased it when I had Windows Vista.  I have since upgraded to Windows 7 Ultimate .  Was fine with Vista.  Now, it keeps shutting off during the song, 3 or 4 times.  Have to press power button and then arrow to restart song.  I went to my iTunes and ran diagnostics.  Passed all until the end.  The last test had a red dot failure.  It said no iPod, iPhone, or iPad found.  Does someone know how I can correct the problem?  iTunes is always updating, so I am current.

  • My Ipod nano 4th generation just turned off and I can't restart it.  Tried all the troubleshooting tips. Can't find the issue.

My three year old ipod nano 4th generation has been working fine all these years. Suddenly, last week, while it was low on battery (not completely drained), it shut down and I cannot restart it. I have tried all the troubleshooting issues and still did not manage to turn it on. Though. when I press center and menu while connected to my computer, the computer bips has if it recognized that something is trying to connect. Though, it cannot identify it and the iPod remains shut down. I cannot find the issue, perhaps I need a battery replacement?

It's possible.  Just take the iPod to an Apple store or an AASP.  Whichever is more convenient for you.

Can you play the song in iTunes?
If you can't the song file is probably corrupt and needs to be replaced.

  • Ipod nano 4th gen cause computer restart

When I try to sync my new songs onto my ipod nano 4 gen it causes my new pc to restart. Says there is a problem and needs to restart. When i sync them to my ipod touch 4 gen, it works fine. Please Help!

    Hello cynthialou13,
    And welcome to Apple Discussions!
I accidentally synced and erased conents on my ipod. Is it possible to get my data back?
Not very likely, even with the use of recovery software. If the content that was on your iPod is not in your iTunes library, then it looks like you may be out of luck. Sorry.

  • How to fix a frozen ipod nano that wont restart

I tried plugging my ipod nano into my computer for itunes, and all of a sudden the screen froze. It wont do anything. The words don't change, the light wont go off, and i've tried restarting it with no luck

    Hello,
I have same broken iPod Touch 4G, I'm stuck on the Apple logo and only what I can do is just restart. If I connect iPod turns on but that's all. I checked a lot of tricks how to restart/reboot device and how to get DFU but I have only the logo. iTunes on my mac can't recognize the device.
And in Apple retail store the guy told me: sorry it's dead. We can fix for about £200. After 1 month when my waranty is finished. Funny isn't it? I can't believe that my lovely iPod is dead after 13 months. Where is the "for quality you have to pay." Is it conspiracy if you don't buy extra waranty we will send you killing signal into your iDevice?
    Many thanks for help

I have the latest version of the iPod nano... I'm wondering how to restart incase of any failures.

Either perform a hard reset using the appropriate section in this Apple support document

Or restore it to factory settings in iTunes, using the instructions in this Apple support document.
