    Classes in JSP, Overloading of constructor (parametric constructor)
    I have created a Java class in JSP and created new objects, no problem.
    I have also manage to overload methods like
    writeOut() {}
    writeOut(String arg) {}
    writeOut(String arg, String arg2) {}
    But, i have a problem a parametric constructor (parametric constructor).
    Like if the class looks like this :
    class Test {
    public void Test() {}
    public void Test(String arg) {}
    public void Test(String arg, String arg2) {}
    I manage to compile this, but when i try to execute the parametric constructor by this code :
    <%Test objTest = new Test("value");%>
    I get 1 warning, and i do have a constructor that is like this :
    public void Test(String arg, String arg2) {....}
    C:\Program Files\Apache Tomcat 4.0\work\localhost\_\nils\slett-kode\test$jsp.java:114: Wrong number of arguments in constructor.
    Test objTest = new Test("hei","had");
    ^
    Note: C:\Program Files\Apache Tomcat 4.0\work\localhost\_\nils\slett-kode\test$jsp.java uses or overrides a deprecated API. Recompile with "-deprecation" for details.
    1 error, 1 warning
    Can anyone please help me, or tell me if i can have parametric constructor in JSP ?

    If it's still not working right, I'd suggest making sure that you don't have an old copy of the class file somewhere on your box that might be accessed instead of the one you really want it to. But yes, the following code executes fine..
    class Test
        public Test()
            System.out.println("In Test()");
        public Test(String arg)
            System.out.println("In Test(String)");
        public Test(String arg1, String arg2)
            System.out.println("In Test(String, String)");
        public static void main(String[] argv)
            Test test = new Test();
            Test test2 = new Test("hello");
            Test test3 = new Test("hello", "world");
    }And outputs the lines
    In Test()
    In Test(String)
    In Test(String, String)

  • Calling an inner class in a jsp:usebean tag

    Hi everybody !
    Here's my problem : working in my project on multiple pages, I'm using inner classes/beans to limitate my '.java' files but I'm stuck when calling that 'inner-bean' in my jsp:usebean tag.
    First, I tried to declare in the class parameter : 'class="MyPrincipalBean.theInnerBean" but jsp returns me a 'not found' message.
    I tried an other issue with this :
    'class="MyPrincipalBean$theInnerBean" but I encountered a 'Attempt to use a bean type without a void constructor in jsp:useBean tag (JSP 1.1 specification, 2.13.1)'. Since I can't find that specification, I'm sending an SOS.
    Am I on the good way ? If somebody as encoutered that sort of problem, it would be very kind of you to help me.
    Thanks for your help !

    Thanks for your help!
    I must recognize that my explainations weren't really precise.
    My principal bean owns a table of my inner-class type :
    public class FirstBean extends EntityBean {
    private SecondBean[] tabSB;
    public SecondBean[] getTabSB() {...}
    public void setTabSB(SecondBean[] p_tabSB) {...}
    public class SecondBean {...}
    So I can call a specific bean from the tab in my Servlet for another page.
    But I think I have the solution and I need your advise :
    I tried this :
    <jsp:useBean id="FirstBean" class="<...>.FirstBean" scope="session" />
    <jsp:useBean id="SecBean" beanName="<...>.FirstBean$SecondBean" type="<...>.FirstBean$SecondBean" scope="request" />
    And would you believe it ? It seems to work ! But I have to test this farther to be sure. What do you think of it ?

  • Can we use an overloaded constructor of a Java Bean with Session Tracking

    Hi Friends,
    If any one can solve my query.... It would be helpful.
    Query:
    I have a Java Bean with an overloaded constructor in it. I want to use the overloaded constructor in my JSP.
    1. One way of doing that is to use it directly in the "Scriptlets" (<% %>). But then I am not sure of the way to do session tracking. I think I can use the implicit objects like "session", "request" etc. but not sure of the approach or of the implementation method.
    2. Another way is through the directive <jsp: useBean>. But I cannot call an overloaded constructor with <jsp: useBean>. The only alternative way is to use the directive <jsp: useBean> where I have to write getter and setter methods in the Java Bean and use the <jsp: setProperty> and <jsp: getProperty> standard actions. Then with this approach I cannot use the overloaded constructor.
    Can any one suggest me the best approach to solve this problem ?
    Thanks and Regards,
    Gaive.

    My first reaction is that you can refactor your overloaded constructor into an init(arguments...) method. Instead of overloaded constructor, you can call that init method. This is the ideal solution if possible.
    As to the two choices you listed:
    1. This is OK, I believe. You can use scriplet to define the bean and put it into session scope of the pageContext. I am not sure exactly what you meant by session tracking; whatever you meant, it should be doable using HttpSessionAttributeListener and/or HttpSessionBindingListener.
    2. Agreed. There is no way that <jsp:useBean> can call a constructor that has non-empty arguments.
    Please tell me how it works for you.

  • Trying to create cmp correctly(auto-increment);error while running

    I am using the latest versions of Jboss(4.0.5.GA) and Lomboz(R-3.2-200610201336) along with SQL Server 2005 and Microsoft's SQL Server 2005 JDBC driver.
    Lomboz used xdoclet to create the java files based on the SQL table but it did not put anything in the DoctorBean.java file telling it that the primary key was auto-incremented.
    Using the JSP files, I can retreive data out of the database fine so I know the connection and drivers are set up properly.
    Here is the error:

  • Why am I getting this error?

    Hello,
    I am trying to call my Java class from a JSP page. I am getting this error:
    Generated servlet error:
    C:\Program Files\Apache Tomcat 4.0\work\Standalone\localhost\em\jsp\Test_0005fSummarySBU_0005fscreen$jsp.java:82: Wrong number of arguments in constructor.
    strQuery=new ListReturn(strEssUser, strProcessingMonth, strProcessingYear);
    I don't understand why I am getting this error as I pass three paramters to the Java class, and I accept three parameters in the constructor.

    I can't figure out the problem!

    change this:
    <%
         Collection strQuery = null;
         String strEssUser = "test";
         String strProcessingMonth = "JUL";
         String strProcessingYear = "2002";
         strQuery=new ListReturn(strEssUser, strProcessingMonth, strProcessingYear);
         System.out.println(strQuery);
    %>To this:
    <%
         Collection strQuery=null;
         String strEssUser="test";
         String strProcessingMonth="JUL";
         String strProcessingYear="2002";
         lr=new ListReturn(strEssUser, strProcessingMonth, strProcessingYear);
         System.out.println(lr.getQuery())
    %>Then make a new public method in your Java called getQuery()
    public Collection getQuery();Do what you need to do to process it and return the value in getQuery. You will also probably need to make private variables in you declaration to do the processing on.

  • RE:How to call a constructor or a .class file using jsp?

    try like this:
    <%@page import="folder_name.*%>
    <jsp:useBean id="info" class="folder_name.class_name"
    />
    now use your code:
    <%info.method_name()%>But my GetInfo class reside in this following folder!!!
    GetInfo.class location:

    Okay, Tomcat doesn't like it when you don't use packages in the WEB-INF/classes folder, don't ask me why, it's just the way it is.
    Rewrite your class so it exists in a package:package myclasses;
    public class GetInfo { ... }Compile it and put it in the WEB-INF/classes directory so you should have:
    WEB-INF/classes/myclasses/GetInfo.class
    Your import statement should be:<%@ page import="myclasses.GetInfo" %>and continue coding as before.
    Let me know how it goes.

  • JSP tags as object constructors?

    Hi,
    I want to instantiate an object in a tag handler and then use the object in my JSP code. For example:
    <objConstructor varName="myObj" field1="foo" field2="bar" />
    <%
    out.println(myObj.getField1() + " " + myObj.getField2());
    %>
    Is there an elegant way to do this in JSP, or is there a more appropriate way? I want to allow non-programmers to edit the stuff.
    Thanks,
    Greg

    Sure, you just need to add a TEI class for your tag. So if your tag class is named ObjConstructor.java, you'd need a class called ObjConstructorTEI.java that looks something like this:
    import javax.servlet.jsp.tagext.*;
    public class ObjConstructorTEI extends TagExtraInfo
       public VariableInfo[] getVariableInfo(TagData data)
          VariableInfo info1 = new VariableInfo(data.getAttributeString("id"),"class.name.for.the.object", true, VariableInfo.AT_BEGIN);
          VariableInfo[] info = { info1 } ;
          return info;
    }Note: I changed your varName to id in this example, just to follow the convention used by other tags like jsp:useBean.
    I copied it from a tag I wrote a while back, so I don't remember the specifics of the VariableInfo API, but since you're using it the same way as I did, it should work.

  • JSP and JavaBean - Session info and constructors

    Hello,
    I'm trying to write a simple web page that allows used to login and view thier detail from a DB.
    I can't figure few things :
    1) why the dalpkg.SayHello class is loaded every time the page is loaded? and how can I change it?
    2) In the login page I prompt a login form, what I want to do is :
    If a user is already logged on and re-enters this page, the form wont be shown to him, instead he will see some other information.
    how can it be done?
    I tried to save a global parameter in the class ("Validated") but it seems that every time i re-enter the login page this variable is false.

  • Open file in append mode in JSP

    Hi;
    I am using the java.io.* import attribute in my jsp page and I can write to a txt file, bvut it overwrites on the older file. How do I append to the file, here is my code
    import="java.io.*" %>
    <%
    File fileObject = new File("C:/db/data.txt");
    fileObject.createNewFile();
    FileOutputStream fileStream = new FileOutputStream(fileObject);
    DataOutputStream dataStream = new DataOutputStream(fileStream);
    dataStream.writeChars("Line one\n\r");
    dataStream.writeChars("Line two\n\r");
    dataStream.close();
    out.print("The new file has been created <br>");
    %>
    </body>
    Appreciate help!!! Thanks
    lakshmi

    Go and read the API for java.io
    Use the alternate constructor, which takes a boolean parameter, saying whether to append to the file.
    ie
    new FileOutputStream(fileObject, true);
    If you are writing a text file, you might consider using a FileWriter rather than a FileOutputStream.
    Cheers,

  • Unable to compile class for JSP

    Please can anyone help me to solve this.
    Actually,this is the condition.
    In my db,there is a table called UserPassword, which has 4
    fields(empNo,UserName,password,level). Now I want to do these things:
    When the user submits the data to create a new account via HTML form, it submits the data to the file called CreateAcc.jsp. In this file it perform some logic,here are they.
    1)To check the empNo,if it is already exist in the DB,
         if empNo =exist then display error.(record already exist)
         if empNo =notexist then do task 2).
    2)check the UserName,if it is already exist in the db,
         if UserName=exist then display error.(because it's a primary key)
         if UserName=notexist then do task 3).
    3)Create a new user account and save it to the db.
    To do these tasks,I never create a new objects for the tasks 1) and 2).
    only for task 3)create an object.
    Is it the right way?
    Here is the file CreateAcc.jsp
    <%@ page language="java" %>
    <%@ page import="core.UserAccManager" %>
    <%@ page import="data.UserPassword" %>
    <jsp:useBean id="UserAccManager" class="core.UserAccManager" scope="session"/>
    <jsp:setProperty name="UserAccManager" property="*"/>
    <jsp:useBean id="UserPassword" class="data.UserPassword" scope="session"/>
    <jsp:setProperty name="UserPassword" property="*"/>
    <%
    String nextPage ="MainForm.jsp";
    if(UserPassword.verifyEmpno()){
         if(UserPassword.verifyUsername()){
              if(UserPassword.createAcc()) nextPage ="MsgAcc.jsp";
          }else{
               nextPage="UserNameExist.jsp";
          else{
              nextPage="UserAccError.jsp";

    <jsp:forward page="<%=nextPage%>"/>The directory structure:
    UserPassword.java- F:/Project/core/data/UserPassword.java
    UserAccManager.java - F:/Project/core/UserAccManager.java
    Now both are compiling.I put the class files into the TOMCAT,as follows.

    I try it that way, but it don't compile.

    import javax.servlet.*;
    core\data\UserPassword.java:package javax.servlet.http does not exist
    import javax.servlet.http.*;
    So,I comment them only in the UserPassword.java file,and compile it again.
    Then it compile well.I goto the directory to get the .class files.
    But there is only UserPassword.class inside the data folder. There is not
    UserAccManager.class in the core folder.
    Then I try this way,I put my 2 java files in to a new folder,
    F:\SystemName\com
    When I try it that way, but it don't compile.

    Now both are compiling well.There was 2 class files.
    I put them in to the WEB-INF/classes/com directory.

  • Problem while trying to execute Java class in JSP using  RunTime Class

    Hi,
    I want to execute a JAVA class through a JSP. For this I am using following code ....
    JSP (AAA.jsp) CODE ............
    try
    String[] cmd = new String[3];
    cmd[0] = "cmd.exe" ;
    cmd[1] = "/C" ;
    cmd[2] = "java -DPeBS_CONFIG_HOME=D:/CASLIntegration/PeBS/srcvob/PeBS/config Service_Statement_Application 22/May/2001 22/May/2003";
    Runtime rt = Runtime.getRuntime();
    System.out.println("Execing " + cmd[0] + " " + cmd[1] + " " + cmd[2]);
    Process proc = rt.exec(cmd);
    // any error message?
    StreamGobbler errorGobbler = new StreamGobbler(proc.getErrorStream(), "ERROR");
    // any output?
    StreamGobbler outputGobbler = new StreamGobbler(proc.getInputStream(), "OUTPUT");
    // kick them off
    errorGobbler.start();
    outputGobbler.start();
    // any error???
    int exitVal = proc.waitFor();
    System.out.println("ExitValue: " + exitVal);
    catch (Throwable t)
    t.printStackTrace();
    StreamGobbler THread class Code ..........
    import java.util.*;
    import java.io.*;
    public class StreamGobbler extends Thread
    InputStream is;
    String type;
    StreamGobbler(InputStream is, String type)
    this.is = is;
    this.type = type;
    public void run()
    try
    InputStreamReader isr = new InputStreamReader(is);
    BufferedReader br = new BufferedReader(isr);
    String line=null;
    while ( (line = br.readLine()) != null)
    System.out.println(type + ">" + line);
    } catch (IOException ioe)
    ioe.printStackTrace();
    I have successfully compiled and placed the class file for the above class in JSP's servlet engine. However, when I execute the JSP through explorer Web Browser, I get following compile time error:
    An error occurred between lines: 36 and 86 in the jsp file: /casl/LocalApp/VehicleServiceStmt/AAA.jsp
    Generated servlet error:
    D:\Tomcat\work\localhost\_\casl\LocalApp\VehicleServiceStmt\AAA$jsp.java:118: No constructor matching StreamGobbler(java.io.InputStream, java.lang.String) found in class StreamGobbler.
    StreamGobbler errorGobbler = new StreamGobbler(proc.getErrorStream(), "ERROR");

    I am unable to determine the reason of why the constructor which exists in the StreamGobbler Class is not recevied in JSP. If I try to write the same code in JSP as a JAVA class, keeping StreamGobler class same, the programme executes successfully.
    Please help me find solution to this at the earliest. Thanks in advance,
    Prachi

    Thanks,
    I got it working by making the constructor Public.
