Constructors and command lines

I would like to know how you allow command line input for a constructor created object.
For example, my patient class has a constructor that will create a patient with 5 parameters id, name, age, etc.....
public Patient(int d, String n, int a, int s, int x) {
               id = d;
               age = a;
               tl = s;
               name = n;
               timearv = x;
In my Clinic class I would like to allow a user to be able to enter details on the command line to create a patient......DON'T KNOW HOW!!!
below is what i've come up with, but of course it doesnt work.....any help would be appreciated.....
Clinic c = new Clinic();
               System.out.println("Add patient details");
               Patient x = new Patient(id, name, age, tl,timearv);

Normally you present the user with a form consisting of fields the user fills in. When the user is finished and presses an OK button you read the filled-in fields and convert them to the internal types you expect/need. This information is then used to create objects.
You can read about this in the Swing tutorial.
A simpler way is to read from the standard input like this,
http://javaalmanac.com/egs/java.io/ReadFromStdIn.html
You can convert the read Strings to numbers like this,

  • Solaris 10 x86 cdrw trouble.  Gnome and command line problems writing.

    I'm experiencing general weirdness trying to write CD's and DVD's using a new internal DVD-RW device -- It's a Sony NEC AD 7220 A CD / DVD RW drive on a Solaris 10 x86 AMD system. I have searched far and wide for other threads of similar instances but no one has posted an issue like the one I'm having.
    I have a Sony Optiarc AD 7220 A CD-RW on a x86 AMD Athalon 1.6 ghz based server with 2 GB RAM.
    The DVD-RW drive gets detected by BIOS (Phoenix TrustedCore 2.3) and reads disks fine. I installed Solaris 10.08 from DVD using this DVD-RW drive.
    However, trying to write to new blank media does not work properly, (effectively at all).
    I've tried different brands of brands of blank CD's and CD-R and CD+R (have not tried using CD-RW disks yet). Ditto with DVD's - tried DVD-R and DVD+R's.
    1. Inside the Solaris 10 GUI (Gnome, a.k.a. Java Desktop), when I put in a blank CD-R, a dialog box "Format Media...?" pops up. If I click "Ok" it formats the blank CD and closes the session, CD has been written to and is ruined.
    2. I open a terminal window, as root, and put in a blank CD. "mkisofs –r /home/foo 2>/dev/null | cdrw –i –p 1" will write a directory tree OK, but if I go back into gnome GUI and open and close the CD tray, again, up pops the "Format Media..." dialog box instead of the CD appearing on the desktop. If I restart vold (svcadm restart volfs) then open and close the CD tray, voila, the contents appear on desktop as CD icon.
    3. When I try to write to a DVD-R: "cdrw -i /local/iso_image" It always fails with: Write Track 1....Failed. after a few minutes. It did in fact write part of the .iso but bails out with a failure.
    I've tried various other write commands (specifying the device ID, speed, so on and so forth) and command line switch options (following the rules of course) and it seems to me to be more than a syntax / media issue. However if it is I would like to know. I did see a similar CDRW device on the HCL for OpenSolaris with a 'reported to work' rating. That was for a Optiarc AD-5200A, which is going away thus my company has chosen to use the AD 7220A in speciality racks we build and deliver to the U.S. Navy.
    I really need to get a handle on this CD-RW device issue and decide if a different brand / model is what it's going to take to solve this and move on to producing and delivering these systems in working conditions.

    Sony systems are often very particular about what CD's and DVD's they'll take. I have several Sony systems that I use for video work and they'll read almost anything but they'll only write to DVD RW.  They also don't like cheap brand CD's and DVD's.  Be sure to try both CD RW and DVD RW before doing anything else.  Because of the requirement for DVD RW, they won't take fast speed (16x) DVD's, just 4x. If all of this turns out to be the case, you may want to go with a different manufacturer for the drive, DVD +RW 4x aren't always easy to find in the store.

  • How are Windows Server Backup and Command Line Tools used in vCSHB installation?

    How are Windows Server Backup and Command Line Tools used during the installation of vCSHB?  Is it required in all types of deployments (PtoV, VtoV, PtoP)? Is it used to create the files that are put in the file share for the second node to use during vCSHB installation or is it only used during a vCSHB clone operation of a Physical to Physical deployment?  Are these tools not used in some deployments?

    You need Windows Server Backup installed on source and destination, and during the installation of vCSHB the installer will invoke the wbadmin (Windows Server Backup Utility) and will backup configuration and application data (application data is optimal but can decrease the sync time after installation of secondary node). On the secondary node you will need only run the vCSHB installer and everything will be restored.
    Check this blog entry for some more info about some problems in P2P deployment: http://www.vcoportal.de/2013/12/vmware-vcenter-server-heartbeat-restore-on-a-second-node-a-journey/

    Hello I am on a macbook pro (retina IOS 9) i have installed xcodes and command line tools but codeblocks does not compile, terminal gives this message /Users/MacPc/Desktop/Untitled1: Permission denied      any one has a solution?? please...

    Back up all data before proceeding.
    This procedure will unlock all your user files (not system files) and reset their ownership, permissions, and access controls to the default. If you've intentionally set special values for those attributes on any of your files, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. Do so only after verifying that those settings didn't cause the problem. If none of this is meaningful to you, you don't need to worry about it, but you do need to follow the instructions below.
    Step 1
    If you have more than one user, and the one in question is not an administrator, then go to Step 2.
    Triple-click anywhere in the following line on this page to select it:
    sudo find ~ $TMPDIR.. -exec chflags -h nouchg,nouappnd,noschg,nosappnd {} + -exec chown -h $UID {} + -exec chmod +rw {} + -exec chmod -h -N {} + -type d -exec chmod -h +x {} + 2>&-
    Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
    Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
    ☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
    ☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
    ☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
    Paste into the Terminal window by pressing command-V. I've tested these instructions only with the Safari web browser. If you use another browser, you may have to press the return key after pasting.
    You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
    The command may take several minutes to run, depending on how many files you have. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign ($) to appear, then quit Terminal.
    Step 2 (optional)
    Take this step only if you have trouble with Step 1, if you prefer not to take it, or if it doesn't solve the problem.
    Start up in Recovery mode. When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select
              Utilities ▹ Terminal
    from the menu bar. A Terminal window will open. In that window, type this:
    res
    Press the tab key. The partial command you typed will automatically be completed to this:
    resetpassword
    Press return. A Reset Password window will open. You’re not going to reset a password.
    Select your startup volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if not already selected.
    Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
    Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.
    Select
               ▹ Restart
    from the menu bar.

  • Problem Using Sax parser with Eclipse 3.0 and command line

    Hi,
    I am parsing a xml file with sax. When I am running my programm in the command line everthing is ok and I get the right results from parsing.
    But if I am running the programm in Eclipse 3.0 (the same java code) I get an other result (the wrong results).
    Does anybody know what this can be the reason for. Is Eclipse using an other xml parser and if where I can change the parser?
    It would be very kind if somebody can give me a reason for this strange behaviour.
    Thanks in advance

    I have solved my problem.
    In the command line I used jre 1.4 and in Eclipse I used jre 1.5.
    I think jre 1.5 uses an other xml parser so I got an other result.
    If i use in Eclipse jre1.4 I get the same result as in the command line.

  • REP-0713 error when using r25run32 and command line

    Help,
    I have what seems to be a very strange problem. I have the following
    command line saved as a batch file called Test.bat. If I double-click on it
    or run it from the command prompt, it works fine - it runs a report and
    prints it.
    d:\orant\bin\r25run32.exe report=test1.rep userid=user1/user1@testdb
    paramform=no destype=printer desname="HP" desformat=dflt printjob=no
    However, if I use a program scheduler, it crashes with the error:
    "REP-0713: Invalid printer name 'HP' specified by parameter name DESNAME"
    I have tried Norton Scheduler, NT AT command, as well as a couple other
    shareware programs. All crash with this error. If I use background=yes,
    again it works if I run it, but when a scheduler starts it, the Report
    Server crashes. Instead, if I use batch=yes, it just crashes after a few
    seconds.
    If I use printjob=yes, the printer dialog pops up, I press OK, and it works
    fine. I have tried outputting to a PDF file, but again, it works if I run
    the batch file, but not when a scheduler does.
    I am using Reports 2.5, Oracle 7.1, NT4 SP6. I have also tried the Reports
    3.0 runtime (r30run32) with the same results. I just need to run/print a
    report automatically every day.
    Any ideas are greatly appreciated, Thanks.

    I just concatenate them , for example if my key fields of the table are document number and item number , i concatenate them and put it in the key_column.
    How do i read them in my oninputprocessing.
    data: tv type ref to cl_htmlb_tableview.
      tv ?= cl_htmlb_manager=>get_data(
                              request      = runtime->server->request
                              name         = 'tableView'
                              id           = 'test' ).
      if tv is not initial.
        data: tv_data type ref to cl_htmlb_event_tableview.
        tv_data = tv->data.
    <document no.> = tv_data->selectedrowkey+0(10) .
    <item no.>   = tv_data->selectedrowkey+10(5) .
    if i need more info then i read the itab with key document number = <document no.> and
    item number     = <item no.>
    Hope this is clear.

  • Help with char and command line arguments

    I am writing a program that takes 2 command line arguments (such as 4 b, or 3 4, etc.). It uses the first argument to determine the height of a triangle (how many rows high), and the second is the character with which the triangle is drawn.
    My problem is I tend to code backwards - go for the bigger part and then figure out the smaller things. So, I've written a program that prints out this triangle, BUT I can't figure out how to get the command line arguments into it properly. A number works fine because I can:
    size = Integer.parseInt(args[0]);
    but what do I do if the second argument is a character? Args is a String array (I've been fighting with it for the past 4 hours, so I KNOW its a String array) - so how can I get a char to be read as args[1]?
    Here is my code before adding in the second argument (the char):
    public class Triangle
    public static final void main(String[] args)
    int size;
    if (args.length > 0)
    try
    size = Integer.parseInt(args[0]);
    catch(NumberFormatException e)
    System.out.println("Input Error");
    createFilledTriangle(size);
    System.out.println();
    public static void createFilledTriangle(int size)
    int i = 0;
    int j = 0;
    for(i = size, j = 1; i > 0; i--, j +=2)
    printChar(" ", i);
    printChar("*", j); <-----Instead of using * I want to use the second command line arg
    System.out.println();
    private static void printChar(String str, int total)
    for(int i = 0, i < total; i++)
    if(i%2 == 1)
    System.out.print(str);
    else
    System.out.print(" ");
    Thank you for any help in advance!

    I was sure i send it the other day, i probably send it to the wron guy.

    I am running HiQ pro 4.5 on Windows 2000 SP 2. Whenever I enter a command line command, e.g. "1+1", HiQ reports "no error reported" and doesn't execute the command. When I enter the same command again, HiQ tells me that a semicolon is missing.

    Anybody knows this behaviour and how to get HiQ running normally?

  • Single Sign On and Command line

    Hi!
    We have application without any logon form which executed from command line by BAT file:
    app.exe Username Password par1 par2 ...
    where par1, par2... is parameters of application
    So question is: can Oracle Single Sign On set user credentials to the command line? Can we use OSSO for application without logon form?
    Thank you.

    SSO is for web apps, you could try to use OID to perform the autentification of your application but you should change your application so it looks for the users in LDAP.

  • Hana db filesystem directory structure and process command line

    Hi experts,
    Could someone provide please actual directory structure of Hana db filesystem?
    Generally speaking, I need to model some Hana db(of 1.0, 1.5 versions) entities. Among them:
    Schemas
    Data files
    Log files
    Important configuration files
    Database parameters(guess found in config files and command line)
    Database version
    The question is where i can find such information having access to filesystem?
    One another question is how common Hana db commandline looks like?
    Does it have one process or several?
    It would be perfect if someone give some ps -aef command result grepped with relevant Hana Db processes
    Thanks,

  • GUI Applications unable to use command line tools

    Hi All-
    I've searched, but I can't find a thread about this one, so...
    On OS 10.4.5:
    Whenever I use a GUI app that wants to use a command line tool (e.g. curl, df, java), the app fails giving an error message to the effect of "unable to find curl" or the like. It is as if the GUI cannot find my unix $PATH.
    Examples:
    -- Eclipse refuses to launch, because it appears to use "java xxxxxxx" to launch.
    -- Automator fails to run certain Safari actions because they use curl to navigate web pages.
    -- Carbon Copy Cloner fails to launch, because it can't find a tool (df, IIRC) to read drive/volume info
    Possibly relevant details:
    -- I can use the tool in question from the command line, so they are present, and in my $PATH, but the GUI can't find them.
    -- I recently moved from an old G4 to a relatively new G5, and had issues migrating files, so I eventually just copied my entire home directory from the old machine to the new, replacing the freshly created one on the new machine. I feel like that missed something that tells the GUI where your $PATH is, or some other link between GUI and command line.
    -- I created a new user, and that user does not experience the same troubles. This adds to my suspicion that it is account/PATH related.
    Any help anyone can give it greatly appreciated.

    Did you by any chance create an evironment.plist file? It is located in ~/.MacOSX/ If you don't know about it or don't know to look (.MacOSX is normally invisible), try this:
    In Finder.app, in the "Go" menu select "Go to Folder..." (shift-command-G), type ~/MacOSX in the text field and hit OK, the finder should then open a window or complain.
    If it opens a window and you find in it a file named environment.plist move that file to the desktop and try your applications. Do they work as advertized? Try again after logging in/out if things don't work. Do they work now?

  • Hiding a web item through the command line URL

    We use the Web API and command line processing heavily to pass in different filter values, variable values, data providers, etc. to our web reports.  I had a requirement within a given area to launch our web reports with the Navigation block visible on the web template.  In our commonly used 'default' web template, we currently allow the users to switch this item on/off once they are in the report, but we always have it come up Hidden initially.
    My question is this: is there some trick to getting a web item property changed dynamically at execution time from Hidden=X to Hidden= ?  I have tried numerous attempts to format a URL to change this behavior, but have been unsuccessful.  A sample would be: &ITEM=GR6&MULTI=X&HIDDEN=  --> this is intended to make all items with 'GR6' in the name unhidden.  But in my case, it ends up making more web items visible than I want.  Even specifying the Item name directly does not help.
    I have also tried applying it in conjunction with a command sequence from the Web API docs. Is there a particular command that this has to go with (i.e. LDOC? RESET_WEB_ITEM? etc.)?  We have a button on the web template that issues the command <SAP_BW_URL ITEM='GR6' MULTI='X' HIDDEN=''> when clicked -- this works fine.  How do I apply the same type of logic to the initial URL within the command processing?
    Any help would be appreciated.  I know that I can resolve this by just creating a copy template with this web item set to Visible instead of Hidden at the launch.  I was just thinking I could reuse the main web template and control it through the URL.
    Thanks...

    Heike,
    maybe you can help me out on this one:
    I'm trying to implement Tobias Kaufmann's How To Paper <i>Web Printing with Excel</i>.
    Before calling the respective Abap classes from my web template, I want to hide the web item <i>Hierarchical Filter Selection</i> as this one comes out ugly when downloaded to Excel. So what I'm doing is, I first hide the Filter Selection and then call the Abap classes.
    Here is the coding that I am using:
    <!-- Web Print with Excel-->
    <td class="SAPBEXNavLine"><A href="<SAP_BW_URL
    CMD_1='Item=HIERCONTEXTMENU_1&HIDDEN=X'
    CMD_2='CMD=PROCESS_HELP_WINDOW&HELP_SERVICE=HELP_SERVICE_PRINT&ITEM=Table_1&SUBCMD=PRINT_EXCEL'>">
    <IMG  alt="Web Print with Excel" src="/sap/bw/Mime/bex/icons/print.gif" border=0></A></td>
    This coding is working fine.
    The problem is however, that the <i>Hierarchical Filter Selection</i> is now hidden in my web template. To unhide it, I thought I'd use the coding as above, but add a third command (CMD_3) to make that item visible again.
    Here is the coding:
    <!-- Web Print with Excel-->
    <td class="SAPBEXNavLine"><A href="<SAP_BW_URL CMD_1='Item=HIERCONTEXTMENU_1&HIDDEN=X'
    CMD_2='CMD=PROCESS_HELP_WINDOW&HELP_SERVICE=HELP_SERVICE_PRINT&ITEM=Table_1&SUBCMD=PRINT_EXCEL'
    CMD_3='Item=HIERCONTEXTMENU_1&HIDDEN='>">
    <IMG  alt="Web Print with Excel" src="/sap/bw/Mime/bex/icons/print.gif" border=0></A></td>
    Unfortunately, only the commands CMD_1 and CMD_3 are being executed (which is kind of useless), the main command CMD_2 however is not.
    Do you have any idea why this is happening and how to avoid this?
    Really appreciating your help,
    Regards,
    Yogen

  • G5 will not boot into OSX - stays at a command-line prompt

    My G5 will not boot into OS X. I would appreciate and and all advice. Thanks.
    What happened:
    I had the G5 running one morning, with the Isight camera on, plugged into the front-console firewire port. I was running EvoCam software.
    At about 2 hours into running, the cam stopped broadcasting – I got home to check it out three hours later, and the screen was black, and the fan was louder than I had ever, ever heard it on this box.
    I did a hard shut-down with the powerbutton on the Cinema Display monitor.
    At reboot, I see a grey screen for approx 5 seconds, with a dark grey apple logo, and then the screen goes to black, with a command-line prompt.
    It’s been like that ever since.
    I ran the Apple Hardware test, from the internal CD drive, and it shows no errors.
    I cannot boot from an OSX installer DVD. It won’t recognize it. It goes straight to the black screen and Command line prompt.
    I have re-seated the RAM, as well as the Airport Card. The only other card – which I have not re-seated, it the video card.
    I am able to use the machine in Target Mode, so I can extract data from the drives, which is great. Oddly enough, I’m able to use the front-console firewire port to connect to my other Mac in Target mode – with no problems. Also – in Target mode, the fan never goes above the usual quiet self.
    I would appreciate any advice one can provide. Thanks!
    The machine:
    Mac G5 dual 2.0 – First Generation (purchased December 2003)
    It’s on it’s 3rd Motherboard – and now it’s fully out of Applecare warrantee.
    OSX 10.4.9
    4GB Ram
    2 internal drives: 160GB + 300GB

    Well, Apple Support does have articles on:

    won't boot or login
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106464#symp1
    And if those don't work, call.
    With G4 there is/was
    "Fix for a Mac that won't power up
    Mirrored Doors G4. When you pressed the power button, the button would light up, but the computer would not turn on. The fans on the power supply wouldn't turn on.
    FIX: unplug the machine, pull the clock battery, hit the power button to discharge. Then plug it in without the clock battery. The machine should boot perfectly. Shut down, reinstall the clock battery, and now the system is fully functional. Macosxhints

    Reseat video? try another video card?
    My Step #1 is to always boot into Open Firmware (and do reset-nvram, reset-all, if you can't do that, you are sunk).

  • Any API's or command line utilities for accessing Beehive Groups

    Hi, I have an internally developed application that has it's own list of users. I am wondering if I can leverage Beehive groups by programmatically accessing groups in order to enumerate their members. Does any one know of anyway API's or command line utilities to access this information ?

    We got API and command line utilities in ST Beehive and Beehive Online but its access is restricted to Product Development IT group.
    Thanks,

  • Command-line type itunes control - questions

    Hello,
    I'm writing a little tool with Applescript to control iTunes via command-line type interface. I have few general questions, thanks in advance for any answers. First I'll explain my idea, questions at the end. (If wrong forum, please tell me where to go)
    The goal: to control music with as less hassle as possible. I listen music all day, have dozens of gigabites of it, and find mouse/iTunes interface too troublesome. Moodkiller whilst reading a book, for example.
    Tool is pop-up dialog, with a single text field. Write something and hit enter -> search phrase or command interpreted and sent to iTunes as Applescript -> iTunes acts, and a new dialog pops up, ready for next command. (Enter with no text quits app)
    Examples:
    "oasis wonderwall"
    Searches iTunes library and finds Wonderwall of Oasis. Displays a pop-up list of search matches, in this case just one song. Hit enter -> iTunes plays it. (If more results, I get to choose song from list.)
    I find this quicker than to activate iTunes search box with mouse, enter search string, activate results pane with several TAB:s etc...
    "trip-hop"
    Searches an iTunes library, finding over two hundred "trip-hop" genre songs. This time just plays random song among results (thumb rule: if number of results > 100, behave that way, otherwise as above). Library continues playing from that point. Usually means you get to hear a lot of trip-hop. (could also make new trip-hop playlist)
    ">"
    Command: skip to next song. ">>>" skips 3 songs at once, ">>>>" four songs etc
    "<"+" increases three notches, "++" four etc.
    Decrease volume, again "---" three notches etc.
    "play", "pause", "stop"
    Basic player commands, you name it.
    "oasis wonderw >"
    Searches song and adds it to end of current playlist (if more than one result, choose from list).
    Other ideas too, but you propably got the point.
    My questions:
    1) Any applications currently doing this kind of job? With iTunes or other music players? (You can use Quicksilver for iTunes song searching, but I'm not certain if that's very handy or fast)
    2) Would you use this kind of tool, if it were good? (just a theoretical question) If yes, how would you like to control it?
    3) I have used Applescript's basic "display dialog" and "choose from list" commands, but would love more customized pop-ups (fancier song lists etc). Pointers to good scripting additions to accomplish this? Currently the entire tool is made with Applescript.
    If this raises interest, I could post the tool somewhere. It's still very early draft, anyway.
    Cheers,

    Hi CofeeBreak,
    Thank you for your comment, but I was able to find the problem (didn't solve it yet): In the FM command line interface, calling a HEX file located in a folder with brackets in its name, such as "C:\hello_World(V1)\LabVIEW.hex" will not be recognized by the FM.exe, whereas "C:\hello_World_V1\LabVIEW.hex" will work just fine. In the Flash Magic GUI and Command Line Manual section on hex files there is no mention of that, my solution at the moment is to remove the brackets from folder names.
    Thanks
    Amir
