Consuming 2013 people search results on a 2010 farm

Hi,
We currently have two 2010 farms A and B.  Farm A contains all service applications as well as our Portal site collections.  Farm B contains My Sites and uses the search service from farm A.  This all works fine.
We want to upgrade to 2013 so we've built a new 2013 farm.  We want to migrate My Sites from farm B and user profiles from farm A onto the new 2013 farm.
The problem is search.  We want to leave the search service on 2010 farm A since all of the regular content is there, but then how can I federate people search results from the 2013 farm?
Another possibility might be to use the 2013 search service to crawl the 2010 farm A.  If this is the best option how would I set this up?
Thanks.
 - Ed.

Hi,
I recommend migrate the content from 2010 to 2013:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc263299(v=office.15).aspx  This is your best option.
Here's where you'll upgrade the service application databases,
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj839719(v=office.15).aspx
Make sure to start here though, just to dbl check the various steps of prepping for the database attach:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc263026(v=office.15).aspx
In order to do either of the scenario's you mentioned, you'd have to create trust between the two farms, here is a great blog post about this topic and cross farm services in SharePoint 2010:

  • SharePoint 2010 - People Search Results - About Me Property

    Hi,
    Currently, we have About Me showing in our People Search Results page.
    About Me is a User Profile Property that allows Users to specify information about themselves. This Profile Property is an HTML property and therefore may contain links/URLs. When About Me contains links/URLs, they appear as proper links in the User Profile.
    However, in the People Search Results page, they just appear as plain text. We would like them to appear as actual links similar to the User Profile.
    Is there a way to do this?
    Thanks!

    Hi Seth,
    I do know it uses XSLT and have modified this XSLT before for Business requirements.
    However, I'm not even sure if my question is something that can be fixed thru XSLT.
    In XSLT, it is only 1 line that shows the About Me text:
    <xsl:value-of select='substring(hithighlightedproperties/aboutme,1,350)' />
    So I'm not sure if there's any way else to achieve what we want.

  • Add custom properties to People Search Results

    Good morning,
    I am trying to include some custom properties to our Search Results. These are the steps I have followed so far:
    Create User Profile Service Property and sync to AD. The property is populated for different users.
    Run full crawl
    Create managed property on the Schema, and map this to the crawled property
    Created a new version of the Item_Person.html template and changed its title.
    Upload to the Display Templates gallery, and created a new Result Type with this as its template
    Added the new property to the mso:ManagedPropertyMapping tag
    Went to Search Result Types, and selected "Update" on the Property Sync alert
    On the new template, the new property appears on the object ctx.CurrentItem, but its value is null.
    Am I missing something? Tried running full crawl and incremental crawl. Even tried removing the index first.

    Hi,
    Please try to add custom properties using Central Admin.
    I find a thread with the same question, check this:

  • MySite Deletion Emails, UPS, People Search Results

    SharePoint 2013
    We exclude disabled accounts from the UPS for a number of reasons - we don't want the overhead of non-employees, we don't want (requirement) these users to show in people search results, etc.
    Problem - Managers who receive the MySite Deletion email cannot access the account because the account does not exist.
    How do we solve this problem?
    If we include disabled accounts in the UPS, can we filter that information so that only accounts disabled within the last X number of days are included? And if that's attainable, how do we then filter out disabled accounts from people search results
    for those users who were imported?
    Is there a better way to accomplish this?
    There seem to be a large number of threads on this topic, but no real definitive answer or best practice, other than just saying 'import disabled accounts into the ups', which isn't a blanket resolution and will not work for us.
    Thanks
    SPNoob

    Not sure what you mean by "manager cannot access the account..." When you filter disabled accounts in UserProfile Sync the following things happen
    The disabled user will be missing from the next User Profile Sync.  They will be marked as "Missing from Import".
    When the MySite CleanUp job runs users who are missing from IMport will have their profiles deleted.  Their mySite will also be added to a list which will delete the site after 14 days.  Their manager in AD will also be made the secondary site
    collection admin of the mysite and sent an email with a link to that mysite.  The manager won't be able to login to the mysite home page, but will be able to access all the lists and libraries on the mySite to retrieve any IP stored there.
    After 14 days the MySite will be deleted.
    The user's information will remain in the UserInfo table of each site collection where they contributed content.  That way their name will still show for CreateBy and ModifiedBy entries on content.
    That's how the process works.  If you can explain what you mean by manager cannot access the account I'll try to help and explain further.

  • Show the custom popup window on clicking the people name in sharepoint people search result

    Show the custom popup window on clicking the people name in sharepoint people search result
    We are doing the below code to open a popup but while clicking on name link its postback the page and not opening the popup in first click but opening in second click.The same issue occurs while navigate to second page using pagination
    The below code used to show name in item template
    <button id="NameFieldLink" class="temp" style="font-size: 12px;text-decoration:none;color:#0072c6;border:0px solid #fff;background:transparent;margin-left: 1px;height: 15px;padding: 0 10px 17px 0px;text-align: left;cursor:pointer;font-family:
    Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;" title="">_#= DisName =#_</button>
    The below jquery code used to open popup in control search template
    ctx.OnPostRender = [];
    ctx.OnPostRender.push(function () {
    $(".temp").on("click", function(event)
    event.preventDefault();
    $('#fadeout').show();
    $('#pop1').find('.tab-content-people').html($(this).closest('.emp-card').find('.pop-content').html());
    $('#pop1').show();
    return false;

    I believe the issue is that you are not actually searching against the result source you made in step #1.
    It's not enough to make a result source, you have to tell the search results web part to use it.
    Try this:
    1. Go to the Pages library of Search Center
    2. Create a new Search Results page
    3. Edit the page, then edit the search results web part
    4. Change the source for the search results web part to your source
    5. Add the page to your Search Center navigation
    6. Run the search on that page

  • Unable to filter people search results by managed properties

    I am in a strange situation. If I do not specify any filters, my people search works fine. However, if I filter it by a managed property, it does not return any results.
    How can I verify the search crawl is crawling these properties?
    Any pointers?

    Hi,
    According to your description, my understanding is that when you filter managed properties in People search results, then it doesn't return any results.
    Something needs to clarify. Does all the properties not return results or some specific properties ?
    If just some properties not return results, then I suggest you can check if you have set indexed for these properties and if there are valid data in the properties.
    If all the properties can't be filtered, I suggest you can check if there are something wrong in the ULS logs and check if you have set up People search correctly.

    In people search result while hovering over all result item, in the hover panel in the middle I can see a message "We weren't able to find additional information".
    I saw a msdn post for the same question in this

  • Adding Fields to People Search Results Page

    Hi
    Working in SharePoint Online, I've been able to add a few fields to the People Search results page successfully:
    Organization
    Office Locator
    Office Location
    Work Phone
    Mobile Phone
    Home Phone
    Work Email
    All of the above fields are working and display on the People search results page.
    I tried to add these and they simply do not display.  There is no error:
    University Email
    Assistant
    Calendar/Scheduling
    I set them up the same way.  I created the Property in the User Profile area.  I then populated the data for each user.  I then added the property as a Managed property (search schema) linked to the Crawled property from the People category.
    Made sure that they were query able, retrievable, searchable, etc.  Then I edited the People Search code and then I waited over the weekend for the search to pick them up.  I came into work this morning and they still do not display.  Here is
    my code, just in case I missed something.  Thanks.

    Hi,
    According to your post, my understanding is that you have an issue about adding fields in people search results page.
    Per my knowledge, there is no issue in your steps, and the issue may be related to the search crawl in SharePoint online.
    For SharePoint server on-premise, we can start the search full crawl, however, for SharePoint online, we could not start the search full crawl manually.
    You can wait for some time to complete the search full crawl in SharePoint online, then check whether it works.
    As this is the forum for SharePoint server on-premise, I’m not familiar with the SharePoint online search crawl, for this issue, I recommend you can post a new question in the forum for Office 365/SharePoint online.
    http://community.office365.com/en-us/forums/154.aspx
    More experts will assist you, then you will get more information relation to SharePoint Online.
    Thank you for your understanding and support.
    Thanks,
    Jason

  • Add Horizontal Line in People Search Results Page

    Hi everyone
    I have a modified people search results page (SharePoint Online) where I have added a few fields to the results page.  I would like to better organize the fields by placing a horizontal line in there somewhere.
    For instance, I would like to add a light gray horizontal line where I drew the red lines on this image:
    Here is a copy of my current people search results code:

    Hi,
    According to your post, my understanding is that you want to add Horizontal Line in People Search Results Page.
    I recommend that you can use the
    HTML <hr> Tag in the display template file.
    You can add the code below to the html page under the <div id="NameField"></div>
    <div>
    <div> Office:_#= ctx.CurrentItem.OfficeNumber =#_ </div>
    <div> Department:_#= ctx.CurrentItem.Department =#_ </div>
    <hr>
    <div> Organization: _#= ctx.CurrentItem.Organization =#_ </div>
    <div> Organization:<img id="PicPreview" src="_#= ctx.CurrentItem.Organization =#_"/> </div>
    <hr>
    <div> OfficeLocator:<a clicktype="Result" id="NameFieldLink" href="_#= ctx.CurrentItem.OfficeLocator =#_">_#= ctx.CurrentItem.OfficeNumber =#_</a> </div>
    </div>
    The result is as below:

  • Can you refine people search results using a SharePoint 2013 search service application connected in SharePoint 2010?

    We have an SP2010 farm which is now using some of the service applications from an SP2013 farm, including the search, managed metadata and user profile.  This is part of an upgrade programme of work which will involve upgrading infrastructure and
    then gradually the sites, and this is seen as one way to minimise the impact.
    So, the SP2010 search results are being generated by the SP2013 which is indexing the SP2010 content.  The initial results appear fine, however, the refiners in the people results for Job Title and Department are no longer working.  We are receiving
    a 404 page not found, even though the page is there as was working before.
    If we compare the URL generated in SP2010 for refining results to an OOTB SP2013 search centre site, there is clearly a big difference to the format.  Example below is where LastName is Smith and then refined where Department is HR.
    SP2010 URL which now gives a 404 error:
    http://intranet2010/search/pages/peopleresults.aspx?k=LastName%3Asmith&r=%22owstaxIdSPShDepartment%22%3D%23832e3479%2Dd168%2D4620%2Dac69%2D9b00a4c4205b%3A%22HR%22
    OOTB SP2013 URL:
    http://intranet2013/search/pages/peopleresults.aspx?k%3Asmith#Default=%7B%22k%22%3A%22smith%22%2C%22r%22%3A%5B%7B%22n%22%3A%22Department%22%2C%22t%22%3A%5B%22%5C%22%C7%82%C7%824335%5C%22%22%5D%2C%22o%22%3A%22and%22%2C%22m%22%3Anull%2C%22k%22%3Afalse%7D%5D%7D
    I've looked at the URL decoded versions so can see how the query is built up.
    Any ideas?  Is this even possible?
    Matt

    All working now.  Turns out there was an entry in the web.config which was causing issues.
      <denyQueryStringSequences>
          <add sequence="ID" />
      </denyQueryStringSequences>
    Seems IIS is denying something in the query string.  We removed the whole section as was not needed.
    http://www.iis.net/configreference/system.webserver/security/requestfiltering/denyquerystringsequences
    Thanks to a colleague who spotted this; I would've never of thought to check the web.config for something like this.

  • How to create a Display template for people search results

    Hi,
    I've just installed Sharepoint 2013 and started to play around with it. Seems to be many improvements - among these are the ability to create Display templates.
    On my publishing page there is a default "employee lookup" app which returns prefferred name, title and department as default when I try to search.
    I would love to return mobile number aswell so I have tried to do the following:
    I made a copy of Display _Catalogs/Masterpages/Display Templates/Search/Item_Person.html
    Edited that one with the following:
    1. Added 'MobilePhone':'MobilePhone' to the "Managed Property mapping" in the top of the html   document:
    <mso:ManagedPropertyMapping msdt:dt="string">'AboutMe':'AboutMe','AccountName':'AccountName','BaseOfficeLocation':'BaseOfficeLocation','Department':'Department','HitHighlightedProperties':'HitHighlightedProperties','Interests':'Interests','JobTitle':'JobTitle','LastModifiedTime':'LastModifiedTime','Memberships':'Memberships','MobilePhone':'MobilePhone','PastProjects':'PastProjects','Path':'Path','PictureURL':'PictureURL','PreferredName':'PreferredName','Responsibilities':'Responsibilities','Schools':'Schools','ServiceApplicationID':'ServiceApplicationID','SipAddress':'SipAddress','Skills':'Skills','UserProfile_GUID':'UserProfile_GUID','WorkEmail':'WorkEmail','WorkId':'WorkId','YomiDisplayName':'YomiDisplayName'</mso:ManagedPropertyMapping>
    2. Set a var in the <body> with:
    var has_MobilePhone = !$isEmptyString(ctx.CurrentItem.MobilePhone);
    Created the following based on "DepartmentField":
    if(has_MobilePhone == true) {
    _#-->
    <div id="MobilephoneField">
    <!--#_
    var encodedMobilePhone = $htmlEncode(ctx.CurrentItem.MobilePhone);
    var displayMobilePhone = Srch.U.getSingleHHXMLNodeValue(hhProps, "MobilePhone");
    if ($isEmptyString(displayMobilePhone)) { displayMobilePhone = encodedMobilePhone}
    _#-->
    <div id="MobilePhoneValue" class="ms-srch-ellipsis" title="_#= encodedMobilePhone =#_"> _#= displayMobilePhone =#_ </div>
    </div>
    <!--#_
    Saved the document to the masterpage galary and edited the search result page to (people search core results webpart) to "use a single template to display items" and selected my display template.
    Now the search result is still working but I get no mobile numbers to show up in the user info (only in the details which is default).
    Anyone has some bright ideas of what i'm missing?. I'm not used to code (which might be the cause :-)). If you also have an idea on how to make the value of the number = Mobile: <mobilenumber>. So the "Mobile:" static text is displayed
    aswell.
    Thanks a lot for your time.

    Hello,
    I did the same with my new SharePoint 2013 (I would like to display the mobile phone too) but without any chance. Have you done anything else ?
    This is my User Property "CellPhone" :
    http://www.cladstrife.com/CellPhone_Prop.png
    The ManagedPropertyMapping :
    <mso:ManagedPropertyMapping msdt:dt="string">'AboutMe':'AboutMe','AccountName':'AccountName','BaseOfficeLocation':'BaseOfficeLocation','Department':'Department','HitHighlightedProperties':'HitHighlightedProperties','Interests':'Interests','JobTitle':'JobTitle','LastModifiedTime':'LastModifiedTime','Memberships':'Memberships','PastProjects':'PastProjects','Path':'Path','PictureURL':'PictureURL','PreferredName':'PreferredName','Responsibilities':'Responsibilities','Schools':'Schools','ServiceApplicationID':'ServiceApplicationID','SipAddress':'SipAddress','Skills':'Skills','UserProfile_GUID':'UserProfile_GUID','WorkEmail':'WorkEmail','WorkId':'WorkId','YomiDisplayName':'YomiDisplayName','CellPhone':'CellPhone','HomePhone':'HomePhone'</mso:ManagedPropertyMapping>
    The "if_exist" variable :
    var has_cphone = !$isEmptyString(ctx.CurrentItem.CellPhone);
    And the "display" code :
    <!--#_
    if(has_cphone == true) {
    _#-->
    <div id="CPhoneField">
    <!--#_
    var encodedCPhone = $htmlEncode(ctx.CurrentItem.CellPhone);
    var displayCPhone = Srch.U.getSingleHHXMLNodeValue(hhProps, "CellPhone");
    if ($isEmptyString(displayCPhone)) { displayCPhone = encodedCPhone}
    _#-->
    <div id="CPhoneValue" class="ms-srch-ellipsis" title="_#= encodedCPhone =#_"> Mobile: _#= displayCPhone =#_ </div>
    </div>
    <!--#_
    _#-->
    If I delete the test lines in the display code (if(has_cphone == true) it show "Mobile:" but without any mobile number.
    Thanks for your help if any idea :)
    Best regards
    Gabriel

  • People Search results links are incorrect?

    Hello Everyone,
    Just setup People Search on SP2013 SP1 (July 2014 CU).  I have not used it in the past.
    I am finding that after I search for a staff member the results show fine.  However if I click on the user link to go to their MySite page I get the "Sorry, something went wrong" page with "User not found".
    When comparing the URLs I see this difference:
    Url from search result -
    https://.../Person.aspx?accountname=DOMAIN%255Cusername
    Url to the users MySite -
    https://.../Person.aspx?accountname=DOAMIN%5Cusername
    It appears is adding a 25 in the url preventing the "\"?
    Can anyone confirm if this is a bug in SharePoint 2013 SP1 (July 2014 CU)?
    I came across these articles which leads to think so.
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/sharepoint/en-US/17005728-3e68-49f5-8882-85cc8260e53b/people-search-error?forum=sharepointgeneral
    http://sharepoint.stackexchange.com/questions/97882/my-sites-link-in-search-resuls-is-incorrect-escaped

    Yeah, that's a known issue caused by the MS14-022 security patch.
    It is hoped that it's in the September CU according to Stefan's comment in the link below:

  • Sorting people search results

    Hi
    We tried to sort the PeopleSearch Results by LastName and then by FirstName using the Query Designer.
    In the preview everything works fine, buth when we save the web part settings and do a seearch on the people results page, the results are not sorted as excpected.
    Query Sorting, (sorting as expected in preview)
    People results page using the settings above:
    Not properly sorted
    Does anybody have an idea?
    Thanks,
    Stephan

    Wow! I was able to reproduce your problem. There seems to be no way to get the sorting to work correctly in the search results. I have been able to sort the results correctly using either a) Content by Search part or b) an App issuing a query through
    the API.
    I think you are going to have to replace the OOB people search page with a custom solution based on either the Content by Search part or an app.
    I have an Employee Directory app available on my CodePlex project here.

  • Sharepoint 2013 custom search results grouping display template

    Hi,
    I am trying to implement custom grouping for search result items. I would like to group them by a managed property, but without using result blocks (query rules). The idea is to sort the results by the property and then compare the current item (ctx.CurrentItem)
    with the previous item using ctx.CurrentItem.ParentTableReference. If a new property value is detected we insert a new 'group header' (just some simple html). The problem is the ParentTableReference is undefined. Shouldn't there be such a property in current
    item object?
    I'm implementing this in a custom search result item display template...
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
    According to your post, my understanding is that you want to customize search result items display template.
    I suggest you get enumerate all properties of JavaScript context object and debug you code to watch the
    ctx.CurrentItem object.

  • SharePoint 2013 custom search Result Type for "Documents" not showing up as option

    I'm trying to create a custom search Result Type called "Documents" that will filter to MS Office filetypes and PDF's.
    However, when I perform a search, although many of these types of files show up in the results, I don't have "Documents" as a Result Type option.
    Here are the steps I'm following:
    From my Enterprise Search Center subsite: Site Settings > Manage Result Types.
    New Result Type.
    Name: Documents
    Source: Documents (System) - this out-of-the-box Result Source appears to cover the filetypes I need.
    Types of content: I've tried leaving it blank (to match all content) and specifically picking the types I want.
    What should these results look like? Office Document Item.
    Check Optimize for frequent use.
    Save.
    I then go back to my search center and search for a common keyword. Many in-scope file show up in the search results. However, under Result Type, I don't see "Documents," even if I click "SHOW MORE."
    Please advise.
    Thanks.
    Brad

    @Mikael As you say, to display the exact results when we click a result source, we should implement logic code to check whether item should be displayed. I have followed steps nearly the same as the topic owner but I saw nothing different between Everything
    and my custom Result Type.
    Here are the steps I'm following:
    Create a custom result type, named Job, and specify a custom display template for it.
    Set its condition to filter list items that have JobName site column ( JobName is site column's managed property) equal of any "IT" or "Doctor".
    I search for "Perter", it returns 5  items with Everything. I expect that it should return 3 items since only those items contain JobName site column.
    Search is fun but rather headache sometimes, give me advise please :)
    Thanks,
    Hoan.
