Contact details missing, only see numbers, no names or address

Hi, my phone contacts became in recognizable overnight. Basically they became numbers instead of names. Whst should I do other than sync my phone with the contacts list that were not up to date. Please help

Try this
Restart iPhone: Hold down the Sleep/Wake button and the home button together until the apple logo appears (ignore the ON/OFF slider) then let both buttons go and wait for phone to restart (no data will be lost).

The iPhone remembers information about previous contacts.
Complelely independently, you have a Contacts app with a contacts list. It sounds like your contacts list has 3 names on it. You need to add a few names.

When using the new layout of Mail, the 'sent' list never shows the addressee (to). I only see my own name (which is pretty useless since I know I sent the messages...). I do not find the option to change this. In the classic layout, the 'sent' list shows the names of the addressees and any other feature I select under 'view'. What do I do wrong?

Random contact details missing

I've synced my contacts between my mac and iPhone via mobileme but some contact details seem to be missing. All the names are there but some have lost particular details; some the email addresses some the postal addresses etc. I can't see any pattern to it but it is a bit annoying.
Also how does suspending the search function on discussion boards help performance - surely it leads to people posting multiple messages for the same problem.

Did the restore and STILL no luck... in my address book i have kust names and photos of contacts but NO contact information... no email addresses, street addresses OR phone numbers... I can't figure out what has gone wrong or is mobileme-sync down at the moment?
Anyone have any ideas??? PLEASEEEE

My Contacts File in Applications has lost all name and addresses - how can I retrieve them?

Out of the blue my Contacts File in Applications has lost all my names and addresses. Is there any way I can retrieve them? On my back-up systems they don't appear either. Panic!

Alothogh I could not find help on any of the Communities (that I could acyually understand) - I haven't a clue what I have just done but ALL my addresses have now shown up in Contacts. Wish I knew what I had 'clicked" to achieve this - but as I have been "clicking" just about everything in sight - I am not sure what did the magic trick.
Maybe, although I have answered my own query, someone could perhaps tell me what may have happened? I THINK it was something to do with iCloud --- which is something I don't understand AT ALL!

Syncing from e71 - some contact details missing

I recently did my first sync (one way - to server) of my contacts from my E71. Mostly it worked well but for about 5 or 6 of my 70 or so contacts some details (usually phone numbers) did not come through. They were listed as 'telephone' in the phone contacts. I tried changing the label to 'mobile' but it made no difference, and also tried changing the formats to remove the +44 at the start, but again, made no difference - is there a reason why this happens some times?

TS3991 all of my contacts went missing and now i have names of people i dont even know

Out of the blue a couple of days ago all of my contacts vanished, my messages were listed by phone number, and my contact list was a few of my facebook friends with no phone numbers, and the addition of random names and phone numbers of complete strangers. I tried doing a back up, saw my old contacts for about half a second and then they vanished again.........anyone know how to fix this please?? I think icloud may hae completely wiped them out, checked online and the contact list it has is the same as what my phone is now showing.. Thank you!!

How do I show more information for result set, I need company name, company address and company phone number to show. Now it is just company name and company address no telephone number, I need the number to show as well in the first result set

The result set I get for a search now only shows the company name and address, if I want the telephone number of the company in the result set, I have to click on the link to go the site information to get the number. I want the company name, address and phone number to show up in the result set without having to click on each hyperlink to get the telephone number...

Stop Mail.app from creating bogus redundant "names" from addresses?

Some people include a name with their email, and some are content with just plain addresses. I like to see both the name and address when both are there, however, when it is just a plain address, it is pointless for Mail to duplcate the address as if it was a name.
For example, if I am sending to a guy at adddress [email protected], and either I have him in my address book, or perhaps have received mail from him before that included a name, Mail will helpfully fill it in in the address line, e.g. it might appear in an address oval as "Steve Foo <[email protected]>"
This is very fine.
But for many addresses, there is no extra name information to be had. These addresses should be treated as plain email addresses -- the address is the only important part; the name can provide handy extra info, but serves no purpose at all if it does not provide extra info.
In many cases, however, it seems that Mail.app will copy the full email address and set it as the name, which is ugly and redundant. That is, if I start an email to [email protected], and mail has no other info about this address, it will appear in oval as "[email protected] <[email protected]>".
This seems redundant, cluttered, wasteful, and stupid. Is there a way to make it stop doing that?
(As far as I know, it did not used to work this way on my old Mac, which was a PPC with 10.5. My spiffy new Mountain Lion helpfully fills in this bogus info, but perhaps 10.6's and 10.7's Mail did this silly stuff also.)

Sorry to disappoint you, SayWhat0, but unfortunately this is not possible. Apple did not include such a setting and this solution is what I'd call a workaround really. It solves the problem, but as you've mentioned not without drawbacks. I believe there is no other way to resolve this at the moment.

All I could suggest is to do the same and hope Apple will introduce a setting for this.

Just to recap, this is a collection of ports I have collected over time for people who needed this information when setting up the HP ePrint app so that they could view their email from within the app. I am certain other applications also need this information. Although lengthy, I could not find a more comprehensive place to retrieve this information. Feel free to post additional information, faulty information, or other related topics below as this is simply a collection of data and it would be practically impossible to test all of them. Thanks Eric, but that was already turned on. I just now tried turning it off and on again, no change. Actually, I"m more interested in seeing the names than the pictures. I now only see the phone numbers and generic avatars where pics would be.

My iPhone 4S not compatible with 2008 Q7 Audi MMI. Now only phone numbers come up on screen, no name. Names appeared on the phone screen but not MMI screen. Cannot dial by contact info while driving anymore. Never had this problem with previous iPhones

When someone calls, only the number appears on the MMI screen, not their name or whether they called from their office/home etc..   Same with missed calls, dialed numbers etc.. Names appeared on the screen of the phone, but not on MMI screen. Cannot dial by searching contact and name info while driving anymore. Never had this problem with previous iPhones. Is this an Apple issue or Audi issue? Anyone with this problem? Help!

NIGHTMARE Finally Ends, after nearly two weeks.
After trying for over a week trying to get my replacement iPhone 4S to activate, I ended up driving 110+ miles to an Apple Store to get a second replacement, which had been specially shipped there for me. Popped in the SIM card, went through the setup and I finally have an iPhone 4S that works, at least for the time being.
Advice to others who find themselves in this situation:
     1)     If you get these messages (see original post), the phone is bad. Demand a replacement.
     2)     If the AppleCare tech advises that the Apple Agreement Administration team is investigating, you'll be waiting for a week or more for them to complete it. Demand a replacement immediately, don't let them put you off indefinitely.
After the initial phone call documented in my original post, I was in daily contact, phone & e-mail, with the AppleCare tech trying to figure out the problem, and we tried everything, from forced restore's to switching SIM cards, conferencing w/ AT&T, etc. It seems that this was a case of first impression to Apple, but if it wasn't, then the problem is not well documented or known by those who should know, and for that, the blame should be on Apple, not the AppleCare tech who worked tirelessly trying to figure out a solution--I'd send him a case of beer if I knew where to send it.

Are the contact details in your contacts app, the phone app uses the contact app to put names against telephone numbers.
