Contact Groups disappeared with Iphone 5

What did Apple do to "Groups" in Contacts with the new Iphone 5? I have close to 500 contacts and NEED groups.  I called several months ago after I upgraded the phone and they promised to "look into it"
There is a "Contact Lite" download and voila...the groups show up. I don't really like the appearance...black/white list but it works. Groups worked on the Iphone 4S....is apple going back to the wringer-washer days???

Only contacts added to the iCloud group will sync with iCloud.  To make this your default, go to Settings>Mail,Contacts,Calendars...scroll down to the Contacts section and tap Default Account.  Here, choose iCloud as your default.  After doing so, new contacts will be added to iCloud and sync with your iCloud account.

  • How to delete a contact group on the iPhone?

    Hello!
I've been searching for a way to delete a contact group on the iPhone, but I was not able to find one. The only answers I have found tried to tell me that it is not possible to do this on the iPhone. But I can hardly believe that the people at Apple would be so stupid not to include such a thing, as there are iPhone users who do not own a computer. How should they manage their contacts?
So, would someone please be so kind and tell me how to delete a contact group on the device?
    TIA,
    Jan

    Hi
Yes you should be able too, this depends on the features on the phone but i would imagine something as new as the s5 would have this feature. However this would obviously be over standard sms rather than imessage.
    Hope this helps

  • Why can't I display members of a contact group on my iPhone with IOS 6

Just discovered that I cannot display members of a group on my iPhone 4s running IOS 6.
When I tap on a group, I just get a check mark or erase the check mark by the group.  The group will not expand to display the members of that group.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
    JUST FOUND THE ANSWER!
You have to de-select the All Contacts group (get rid of the check mark), select the group you want to display (check mark shows), then tap done and the group selected will display.
Not the most intuitive procedure, but it works?

This works. Simple but like you say not intuitive. Where is the manual on this.

  • How am I supposed to use my created iCloud contact group on my iPhone?

I followed the instructions & 'help notes' on creating a contact group by logging into my iCloud account.  Now on my iPhone I can see the group when I go to Contacts & click on the upper left hand "Groups" button, but that screen only lists which list of contacts I've got synced with my iCloud.  Unless I'm missing something, I do not see how I'm supposed to actually use/implement my new "group."  I was hoping to be able to create a new text & type in the name of my group & send, or have an option to choose from a group list to use as my recipients, but instead nothing.
Am I completely missing the point of grouping contacts on the iPhone???

About all you can do is when addressing the email, tap the "+", navigate to your groups, uncheck all groups but the group you want to send the email to and tap Done, then tap each member one at a time to add them to the list of recipients.
Otherwise you can use an app that will allow you to select an entire group at onece (such as Speed Names).

  • Remove contacts group "on my iPhone"

I just upgraded from 4.3.3 to 5.1.1 and enabled iCloud for the first time.  Till now I was syncing contacts from my computer, and I enabled iCloud syncing and all worked well.  I made sure iTunes is set to sync from iCloud instead of the computer.
However, now I have an empty group in contacts called "on my iPhone" and I can't delete it.  What do I do to remove it?  Everythin else is great, Calendar and notes sync to iCloud with no extra groups, it's only contacts.
    Thanks!

No because there are no groups listed on iCloud, it's only All Contacts.  There is no "on my Mac" or "on my iPhone" group anywhere on iCloud.
When I first updated to 5.1.1 I syncs everything from my Mac, then enabled iCloud after.  So that's where the group came from initially.  When I disabled syncing from my computer and told it to sync with icloud, it deleted all the contacts in the group "on my iPhone" but kept the empty group.  It created a group "in iCloud" and all my contacts are there.
Now I'm stuck with a useless empty group.

  • I don't see my Mavericks Contacts groups on my iphone

I have a long list of useful groups in Contacts on my iMac under Mavericks. My iPhone 5S sees the contacts but not the groups. Why is this?

Thanks, Nubz, but I'm wasn't willing to go through the conversion of my Contacts files into vCards (2200+ contacts, 40+ groups) without a more positive reason why. For a start, it seems to be the wrong end - my iMac (10.9.5) and Contacts app are not the problem - it is iCloud, iPhone, and iPad that do not recognise the groups on my iMac (including those set up post 8.0.2 release). I have poked around and found at least a workaround, but it seems that there might be serious changes at 10.9.5/8.0.2 that have come into play.
I did reset Sync Services but with no effect.
iTunes on the iMac, supposedly controlling sync, merely reports that the iPhone is being synced from iCloud - there are no controls available there, giving frinstance a choice between syncing to iCloud or not. Tellingly, it does not mention syncing with Contacts on the iMac.
iPhone Contacts app has a "Groups" button, but there seems no way of creating a group. + invites a new contact, not a group.
iCloud does allow creation of groups, and groups created in iCloud  a r e  visible in iPhone and iMac . This seems to be a big clue.
My Groups were set up over the years in Contacts on the iMac, and live under the "On my Mac" heading in the group pane. If I option-drag a group name to iCloud in the group pane, it is duplicated there; any new contacts are added to "All iCloud"; the group is synced onto the iPhone.
So, it seems to me that syncing, wherever it occurs now, does not include Groups in Contacts on iMac  u n l e s s  they are also in iCloud.
If there is indeed some way of syncing contacts without iCloud, I would like to see it documented. (The procedure for rebuilding the Contact database does not seem to be a sensible way to sync contacts on a daily basis!)

  • How do I create multiple contact groups in the iphone?

I am syncing w/ Windows Contacts in Vista. Is it possible to create multiple groups of contacts? For example - a group for friends and family, another group for customers, etc...

    Ansuz82 wrote:
I do it by setting up different categories in Outlook. These sync as groups to the iPhone
I created groups and organized all my contacts into the groups using Outlook. However, the iPhone doesn't give me the option to view the contacts in groups, nor does it even mention or list the group name when you view the contacts individually.

  • Group texts with iPhone and Android

I made a group text with 17 of my friends, some on iPhone and some on Android. It started out as one group text, thenme and a couple of other people found that it was creating different group texts. These new group texts wouldnt have certain people in each, there turned out to be about a total of four different group texts going on. What is a probable cause of this? And is there a way to fix the problem without making everyone turn to a third party app?

Group texting is not one of the iPhone's stronger features. Group texting among a mix of iPhone and Android users is frequently a less than satisfactory experience. I'd go with the third party app. GroupMe is a nice cross platform app. It's free. It lets you mute certain groups if you don't want to be bothered for a while.

  • Consolidating contacts to manage with iPhone

    Help!
    The facts:
I'm a former Palm user, and my primary address book/phone list is on my Palm Desktop (several hundred records) (these can be exported as *.csv, .txt or vCard)
I've also been using an Android phone for a while, and have about 150-200 contacts that I want to keep (which I've exported to a *.vcf file on my computer)
I've now got a new iPhone 5 which I'm intending to be my single platform going forward, so want to consolidate and clean up once and for all.
So I need to do a BUNCH of manual clean-up of the contacts before loading it to my iPhone -- lots of duplication (and other info, from the Palm, that I'll need to copy to other places, like Evernote).
I run Windows 7 on my computer.
I REALLY want to be able to access my contacts/address book from my computer, ideally in a way that I can edit entries and do two-directional syncing with the iPhone, so edits made on either platform (PC or iPhone) will appear on the other.
    The questions:
Is there any app or software that will let me do any of the above?
I read about Outlook as a way to edit Palm address books and convert to iPhone and thought it would solve my problem, but then I read that it doesn't run on Windows 7. Replaced by Windows Live Mail, but I haven't seen that mentioned anywhere with respect to data migration/clean up for this purpose. (oversight? Or doesn't work? I don't know!)
I've searched a bit but can't find anything that would be like Evernote (for notes), but for Contacts -- something that automagically synchs between all platforms so the data is current everywhere always.
Is there hope for me, or am I doomed to late nights of manually typing contact entries on my iPhone screen?
    Thanks!

If you are using a Windows computer then try iCloud Control Panel:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1455
Make sure you are signed in to the same Apple ID and have mail contacts and calendars checked off in the control panel on your pc.
Or go into Settings> mail contacts and calendars> outlook account, and make sure contacts are checked.

  • How can i make contact groups on my iphone

I understand that in order to make groups within your contacts you must do it in icloud. I have backed up to icloud but some of my contacts are linked with my work account on outlook for some reason, (I did not create them on outlook, they were just added on my phone and linked to that account). Now I cannot add my work account to my home computer to sync them up is there a way to create groups another way or unlink the contacts from my outlook account to my gmail account??

Once they are in your iCloud account, they will sync with all your devices/computer sycing contacts with your iCloud account.
Also, the contacts you copy to your iCloud will not sync with your exchange account.  If any changes occur in your exchange account contacts you will have to manually make these changes in your iCloud account.  If, for example, a new contact was added to your exchange account, you would have to manually add this to your iCloud account.  It wouldn't be added automatically as iCloud cannot sync with external account.
If you still want to copy your exchange contacts to iCloud, do the following:
Go to Settings>iCloud, turn Contacts to Off, choose Delete from My iDevice when prompted (any iCloud contacts will still be in iCloud).
Download the app My Contacts Backup.  (If you have more than 500 contacts to transfer from your exchange account you will need the “Pro” version.  If you aren't sure, start with the free app.  It will tell you if you have more than 500 contact when you use it.)  Use the app to back up the remaining contacts on your phone (from your exchange account) as a vCard attachment to an email that you send to yourself.  Confirm that you have received the email.
Go to Settings>iCloud and turn Contacts back to On.
Go to Settings>Mail,Contacts,Calendars>Default Account (in the Contacts section) and set this to iCloud.
Go to Settings>Mail,Contacts,Calendars…tap your exchange account and turn off contacts syncing with with your exchange account (otherwise you will see duplicate contacts on your device).*
Open the My Contacts Backup email and tap the attachment to import the exchange account contacts back to your phone, and to iCloud.  All your contacts should now be in iCloud, and appear on icloud.com and your other devices/computers.
    * If you don't want to turn off contact syncing with your exchange acocunt, you will need to open the contacts app and tap Groups, then tap the exchange account so it is unchecked.  This will hide them from view so you don't see duplicate contacts on your phone.
