Contact Groups Keeps Changing

Trouble with contacts since iPhone 7.
When I first used it I noticed that my contacts included everybody I've ever emailed or talked to or was even copied on an email that I sent or received. Way too many and not like it was on my iPhone 6.
Under Contact Groups I saw that there were checkmarks for "All Exchange", "Contacts", "Suggested Contacts". So I removed the checks on all but "Contacts" and then I had what I really wanted which is the Contacts I have in Outlook.
But, it keeps changing back on it's own. Every day or so, I have all these thousands of unwanted Contacts and I have to go in and remove the checkmarks again.

I've had this problem ever since iOS 8 was released.

well the way icloud works besides the back up part of it is if you add a contact on your phone it will go to any other device that has the same apple id on it, Why the info is change im not sure about that but you can try turning off icloud and see if it still happens

Contact settings keep changing

Can anyone shed any light on this please? I have personalised several of my iphone 4 contacts with different ringtones and photos but every so often the phone randomly switches round the photos to different contacts and resets the ringtones back to the default. This has ha opened three times now and I find it very annoying. Ca n anyone offer any tips please, I would be really grateful. Thanks

If you have invested a lot of money into your computer system etc, I suggest that you take it to a dealer like Comp USA, Best Buy, C.City etc. It’s possible that you have many issues affecting your computer operation.
To my knowledge there are no known issues with Itunes that causes the problem's you mention!
I don’t think this is the best forum or Itunes catagory to resolve what could be complex computer problems.
That’s why when you purchase the computer you should have a warranty and or Technical Support included for issues you may have.
The reason I mention Virus is because you have to start somewhere, and with the little info you gave out, that’s where I thought you should start.

Group names keep changing ..

a) how does report assign gruop name and
how can i change in a way report doesnt alter it ..

Hi Deepa,
Reports Builder will assign a default name to a group inside the data model when you write the query, but once a name has been assigned to a group, it should not keep changing the group's name.
For your own custom name, double click on the group heading in the data model, and type your desired name in the "Name" field of the Property Inspector that comes up. It should not change thereafter.

Birth dates for contacts keep changing

I have this weird situation where the birthdates of my contacts keep changing. I noticed this a while back and reset them all, and today I noticed they have changed again. A contact whose birthday is say the 24th of a given month is now displayed as the 22nd. My time zone setting in System Preferences still remains the same - Pacific Daylight - Vancouver, Canada. Anyone got ideas on this?

Just looked at my iCal and noticed someone's birthday was wrong by a day, so I checked the Address Book contact and sure enough, the birth date has changed again. Could this now be back-loading from my Mobile Me account? Would the answer be to delete the library file again, and reset the sync to Mobile Me from my laptop to make sure that file is current too? The worst part about this is I'll need to get in touch with a lot of people to confirm their birthdays as Address Book has changed it more than once.

I get an Internal LR/Gmail error "Couldn't get 'My Contacts' group id". Could this be due to a Gmail password change and if so how do I rectify it?

Contacts keep changing

I'm wondering if someone can help me! My iPhone contacts change, for example one my favourite people they have coloured heart. But on a certain contact it keeps disappearing on my messages but the heart shows when I call, and I look it up in address book. I've tried deleting the whole contact and making a new one but that doesn't work because the number is still on the phone when type the name in but the heart isn't there. I know it's a silly thing but it's really bugging me. I've also tried unlinking from Facebook and thing but nothing seems to work. Someone please help me!!

i just went into my address book and the contact is not there either.
and i just checked me.com and i have about 100 under "no name" and about 20 contacts left.

Syncing contacts Keeping changes made from last sync

The last couple of times I've synced my iPhone 3GS, a box has popped up telling me that changes have been made to certain contacts, on my phone, from my last sync (meaning what's on my computer & what's on my phone are different). So it gives me the option to view each contact that's different & decide which version I want synced & kept on my phone. Each time I've done this, I believed I was choosing the right one I wanted. And every time it ends up that it keeps the wrong version, & so I have to go thru each of those contacts & make the changes back to the version I wanted them in. *These changes are usually as harmless as changing a person's last name or changing their number from "mobile" to "iPhone." SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME!!!!

Com.apple.alf.plist file keeps changing group membership

Hey All, I've read several discussions about this issue. The com.apple.alf.plist file keeps changing group membership from admin to wheel. Disk Utility repair changes the group membership to admin but it will change back to wheel during normal use of the computer, it seems that accessing systempreferences.app and security preferences will change the group to wheel.
I don't really want to get into a discussion about the wheel account, unless necessary, but since this is a very important system settings file I'd like it to work correctly. I have noticed several issues with the firewall not responding as expected such as turning off by itself, and app settings changing or disappearing from the security preference pane. So, I have deleted the plist file and restarted as recommended on other discussions but the issue always returns during normal use. I think it might be the application owning the plist file causing the issue, but I am not sure which one owns the plist file. I assume it would be systempreference.app since I think it is a firewall plist file. The permissions for systempreferences.app is strange also;
- everyone - custom
- system    - read/write
- wheel      - read/write
- everyone -read
This may be the culprit but I tried to make a minor change, so as not to mess up the operating system, and disk utility repair permissions just puts it back the way it was.   Any ideas about this would be very appreciated.
Note: I have done a complete system reinstall and the issue still returns.

OK, Since I haven't gotten any responses about this it must be a complicated issue. Just as a quick check could some of you good people out there look at the "Get Info" window for the systempreferences.app and see if your permissions look like mine? I'm still having trouble with the firewall settings not acting as expected such as apps and processes that I have approved/denid connection access not showing up in the firewall pane of system preferences and having to reapprove each startup. Thank you in advance for any help on this.

Welcome to the Support Communities!
The individual contacts are sorted first within the Contact application. When you create a group in Contacts, the individual names in the group should keep the same sorting order. Try resetting the name order for all contacts.
Contacts (Mavericks): List contacts by first or last name

Change the name order for all contacts
Choose Contacts > Preferences, then click General.
Select an option next to “Show first name.”
Sort contacts
Choose Contacts > Preferences, then click General.
Use the Sort By menu to choose how to sort.

Contact groups null

i create a group in icloud and name it put when it goes to my iphone it is named null.

Solved, I had this problem, after fiddeling around I found a work around.
Go to contacts > groups
Leave this open and keep an eye on it, then go to www.icloud.com
Rename one of the groups there to something random, watch your phone, it will change from "null" to whatever you entered. Then rename it again to what you want, repeat for all the other groups coming up as null.
Silly but works.
Keep in mind it takes a good 10-20 seconds to update to the phone depending on your connection.

iCloud will not sync specific contact folders like iTunes. The only way to separate your contacts is to set up different iCloud accounts on both phones. If you want to do this, first decide which phone will be moving to the new account, then on the phone that will be moving, go to Settings>iCloud and turn all data that is syncing with iCloud (contacts, calendars, etc.) to Off. When prompted choose to keep the data on the iPhone. After everything is turned off, scroll to the bottom and tap Delete Account. (This will only delete the account from this phone, not from iCloud. The other phone will not be effected by this.) Next, set up a new iCloud account on this phone using a different Apple ID and turn iCloud data syncing for contacts, etc. back to On. When prompted, choose Merge. This will upload the data to this new account. At this point you will have two different iCloud accounts, one for each phone, with identical data on them.
You will then have to go to icloud.com on your computer and sign into each iCloud account separately and manually delete the unwanted data (such as deleting the other phone's contacts from your account, and vice versa). These changes will be reflected on each phone. When finished you will have individual iCloud accounts with just your own data on them.

Syncing to selected contact group wants to delete files outside of it

I am trying to sync my iPhone contacts to my address book in a specific way. In my address book, I have my personal contacts - friends and family. I also have mailing list subscribers (which gets into the 1,000s - people with whom I am not personally connected). I copied all of my personal contacts into a separate group and selected that group under the iPhone sync options in iTunes. I also checked the box marked "add contacts created outside of groups in this iPhone to" and again chose the special "personal contacts only" group.
However, when I go to actually sync, I get a pop-up box saying that so many contacts will be added (to my laptop), so many contacts will be modified, and so many contacts will be deleted. Which ones are getting deleted? All the ones that are not on my phone, so basically all of my mailing list, non-personal contacts.
Isn't the point of syncing specific contact groups so that you can have your phone dialogue with that particular folder and nothing else - leaving anything outside of that folder alone?
Just to test it out though, I changed the sync setting to "all contacts" to see what would happen, and I get the same message (it's basically going to delete anything that's on my laptop, but not currently on my phone). Why does this happen? Isn't the whole idea of synchronization that the two devices end up having the same file lists? How can I get the iPhone to populate any contacts I added on it to a specific group on my laptop, and vice versa. Seems like they should populate each others lists with missing pieces, rather than one taking the other one over and deleting, well, anything (unless I tell it to).
And no, I do not have any of the advanced overwrite functions enabled.
Does anybody have a solution to this problem? I'd like to sync my contacts, but obviously don't need 2,000 names of people I don't personally know taking up space on my phone.

I think MobileMe is all or nothing--I asked a chat agent a few months back, and that was the case, haven't seen any reports or UI changes.
Send them feedback--it would be great to select Groups and Calendars.

Latest ios upgrade stopped my computers from contacting and saving in my external hard drives and keeps changing my laptop keyboards everytime I turn it on. Please Apple solve this because I know that many people suffer from this. If you do not I will stop my almost 30 year old use of Apples.

iOS has nothing to do with devices connected to your computer. It also has nothing to do with your keyboard. What have you done and when?
