Contact information not showing in address book

Migrated from Snow Leopard to Mavericks and the address book shows no contacts. The data appears to have been correctly imported into my user folder > library > application support > address book folder (but the icons show up as "Unix / Terminal" not "blank").
I've run permission repair and daily / weekly / monthly maintenance routines to no avail.
Any suggestions?

After several days of trying, i finally seem to have it working. What i ended up doing was exporting my backing up my addresses on another computer that still had Snow Leopard on it. I exported both as .abbu and vCards. I was then able to get the vCards into iCloud.
Problem was, i could not get them to import into Contacts in Mavericks. I could not even add the iCloud account to contacts. It would let me sign in and choose contacts, but iCloud never showed up in the accounts nor did the contacts show up in Contacts.
After trying repairing permissions and resetting the PRAM to no avail, it occured to me to delete the Address Book folder from /Library/Application Support
Once that folder was gone, i was able to add iCloud to the accounts and import the .abbu file from Address Book.
So if you did not export your Address Book contacts before updating, you will need a second computer that is still running Snow Leopard to export the contacts. Then you can delete the Address Book folder from the Library and you should then be able to import the contacts into Contacts on Mavericks.
Hope this helps.

  • Synchronized Contacts do not appear in Address Book

    Hello,
I have OS 10.6.6, iSync 3.1, Address Book 5.0.3 and a NOKIA 6500c Phone. I successfully installed the plugin for the Nokia (at least it seems like it, the phone is recognized).
I have like 6 contact in Address Book and like 150 on Phone. When I do the "first time" sync I chose "merge" phone and computer. When doing the sync, on the phone display a status bar appears and it says x/150 synchronized, as should be, and within a few seconds its done. But the contacts do not appear in Address Book. I've tried this a few times after resetting the syncing settings and everytime I do the first time sync, it appears to work, but nothing appears in Address Book.
Funny is: If I change the phone number of one of the existing 6 entries, that I have in my AddressBook on computer, on the phone, the change is synchronized to the computer. But no new entries are entered on the computer.
    What am I missing?
    Thank you!

There should be an option within the phones menus somewhere.
I think its something like choose Edit on a contact and change the *Store to* option to phone
Or, it may be something like this:

  • Palm contacts do not sync with address book

Contact data from my Palm Tungsten does not sync with Address Book. I am running the latest Palm OS and Desktop with iSync 1.5 and Panther OS 10.3.9. Calendar is syncing correctly. According to the log, iSync thinks that the Address Book is also working but no data gets transferred in either directon. Any suggestions? Thanks.

    Hi,
i also used iSync for a long time with my Tungsten. BUT(!) iSync is very poor! I learned to know MissingSync and this is a really cool App! Now i have categories in my calender after syncing with my Titanium, i have all adresses and there are a lot of more cool features. Look here:

  • CardDAV Contacts Not Showing in Address Book "Aware" Apps

At work, we use the Snow Leopard CardDAV server. As such, all of my contacts are located in that CardDAV "group" ... not the "On My Mac" group. When I try to email from iPhoto '11, add buddies in iChat, import numbers in Skype ... basically any app that is Address Book aware ... the applications only "see" the contacts in the "On My Mac" group. I can't get any of the contacts from my CardDAV group.
Has anyone else see this behavior? Any workaround?

I'm having the SAME issue. Apple has created a great software package that CAN'T work with itself. My Apple Address book is connected to my OS X Server (10.6) via CardDAV - NOT a SINGLE program from Apple besides Mail can read the CardDAV source. iCal auto complete - useless. Drag and drop a contact from AddressBook to Numbers - Only if it's 'On my Mac' Even Billings (not Apple) will only read a local source. Anyone have a solution?

  • Changes to contact information in iMac / MacBook Address Book results in duplicate entries only on the iPhone / iPad

I have my iCloud account synced to an iMac, MacBook, iPhone 4, and iPad 2.  Any changes I make to a contact on the MacBook and iMac result in 2 different contacts on my iPhone with the same name.
In other words, making changes in the address book on my iMac or MacBook, adds another contact on my iPhone / iPad with the new information and same name.  As an example, if I have "John Doe" as contact on all of my devices, and I decide to make a change on my MacBook or iMac, I suddenly have 2 entries on my iPhone as John Doe.  They are not exact duplicates.  1 of the John Doe entries has my original information, and the other John Doe has my new information.  Deleting the "old" John Doe contact deletes all of the entries on all of my devices and I lose all of my contact information completely on all of the devices for John Doe.
Making changes to a contact on my MacBook and iMac only causes issues with my iPhone / iPad.  The synchronization between my iMac and MacBook work just fine, and a new entry with the same name is not created.  My MacBook and iMac do not show duplicates so the "Look for Duplicates" function in my address book doesn't solve the problem on my iPhone.  The only solution so far that seems to work is to go into the iCloud Settings on my iPhone / iPad, temporarily turn off my Contacts, thereby effectively deleting them, and then turning the Contacts back on.  I did change my Apple ID email address recently so I wonder if that plays a role or not.  My new Apple ID has been changed on all of my devices.
Hope that makes sense and hope some people out there have some ideas.

If you are using Outlook 2011, make sure you have the latest service pack and update.
Make sure your Mac Book and all devices have the latest update.
If the Calendar on the Mac Book is correct go to step 3
Assuming Mac Book Calendar is correct, remove accounts from iPhone, iPad.
Reconnect account to iPhone, iPad account.
All calendars should now be in sync.
There are times when the Mail, Calendar, Contact application has been corrupted (Outlook 2011, Mac Mail, Entourage, etc).  This will cause all kinda of issues on your devices.  You have to repair the mail client first.  In the case of Outlook you can delete the profile and recreate it.  In Mac Mail you can rebuild (from Tools on the menu bar)

  • 'Other Address List' not showing in Address Book

I'm trying to create an customized address list that will appear in the address book. I've placed the contacts into a contacts folder, and placed this contacts folder into a .pst file. This way, I can distribute this .pst file for others to use the same
    address list.
I'm aware that I have to tick 'Show this folder as an e-mail Address Book', under the properties of the contact folder.
This address book does show up under 'Other Address List' -> name of the address book, when we look at the address book drop down list. This is when I only have 1 email account under the same Outlook profile.
When I have more than 1 email account under the same Outlook profile, this address list shows itself under the 2nd email account, and not 'Other Address List'.
Is this by design or could it be a bug? Is there a way to fix this / any workarounds? Thank you!
FYI I am waiting for verification of my account as I can't post pictures or links. I've already completed verification by clicking the link. Maybe there's a delay somewhere.

    Hi,
I tested this issue and I can reproduce it in my environment. However, as far as I know, this behavior won't affect the usage of the address book.
I searched the internal resource but I cannot find a bug report regarding this issue. If you have any suggestion about this issue, you can submit a feedback via:

  • Why does my edit button not show in Address Book?

I have installed Lion on my laptop; however, I am not able to edit any Address Book entries. After doing some research, I have learned that I am missing the "Edit Button" that is supposed to appear on a contact that will enable editing.  My Edit button does not appear - I have only "Add Contact" and "Share" buttons.  Why does my edit button not appear?
I have not noticed any other issues with Lion.
    Thanks!

    Try this:
Select "Go" from the finder whilst holding down the Alt key and "Library will drop down in the list.
    Library/preferences/ and delete this :  com.apple.AddressBook.plist
re-start your comp and it should work.
This . plist will re-create itself when re resart all nice and clean and fresh.
Should work, it does for most things.
    Good Luck

  • My icloud Contacts do not match my address book all contacts .. I an trying to synchronize icloud with outlook .. it does not appear to synchronize current address book with icloud

I setup icloud to sychronize with outlook ... I have been sychronizing with gmail contacts so the 2 do not match.
I would like to have one contacts file that synchronizes with outlook. How do I make the contacts file on my iphone synchronize with the icloud then with outlook?
    Ernie

Nuts isn't it. This seems to have been an issue snce dAY 1.  iT FROSTS ME THAT THERE IS NO SIMPLE QUICK WAY TO UPDATE OR CORRECT the data in both programs simultaneously.. Thats why i decided to just put everytning into the i cloud address brook, and let the one other sit and rot.
then i got smart and said, why don't I delete the outlookaddress book files. and save on confusion.
result - both addresses books  and their contents became invisible to outlook.!!!!!! and I can find no way to correct this...to go back to the imperfect world that was.
I did get the outlook contact s back from an archive - but any thing from icloud has become inaccessible from outlook.  (fortunately i can get the vcard infformation directly from icloud. but I can't access it from outlook mail.... means no replying, forwarding etc - and a time swallowing nuisance..

  • Contact name not showing in call/sms log even when I call/sms from my address book.

Two things have changed on my phone recently.
    1. I ran the latest update 4.3.2
    2. My phone was not showing all the contacts in my address book that is in my Mobile Me account. Mobile me had 166 contacts. The iPhone 4 had 136. I I unchecked the syncing of my contacts on my phone. This removed all the contacts from my phone. Then I check the syncing options again. All 166 appeared on the phone.
I'm not sure which of the two caused the issue but now anytime someone who calls their name does not appear on the display or log, just their number. I can even call people from my address book and the display shows that I am calling them with their name and photo on display. However, in the call log the name does not show just their number.  This applies for text messages. I send a message directly from within the contact card in the address book and in my text log it shows only the number and not the name.
I've turned the phone off and on a couple of times.
    I would appreciate any advice.
    Cheers

    Thanks iraghib,
In the end I reset my phone to factory settings. I created a back up of my address book and ical. Reset the phone and did a sync again. This fixed it all. I didn't need to use the backups but is was nice to know they were there. I felt entering the various passwords for all my installed apps was a much better deal than adding the international area code to the 166 contacts I have in my address book.
Good luck. And thanks for the post.

  • 8330 - Contacts Not Visible In Address Book

    Good afternoonn all!
I'm having a problem with my Address Book - my contacts are "there" (in the Address Book options it shows 129), but their not visible when I open my address book.  If I dial out or send a message, or receive a call or e-mail, the contact's information shows up (i.e. dialing 555-555-1234 shows up as John Smith), but is not readily availble in the address book.  I've switched between Business and Personal contacts, but none are in either group.
As far as I know, there was nothing that I did "out of the ordinary" before this issue crept up.
    Many thanks for your help.
    All the best,
    Jason
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I am having a problem with my 8310 that sounds the same as yours -- I have it synched to my outlook with enterprise server, and I now cannot add any new names without it clearing half the alphabet. It started a few months ago when I'd try to add a colleague and check off MM which is my category for work people. If I wrote the company name (which starts with M) in the persons field, then when I saved the contact, and viewed all the contacts in a list alphabetical, and hit "m" to see all the M's, it would only show that last person I put in - and no other names. I'd hit N, P, J, etc, and it would say "no entries found" even though there are 575 entries in my phone. I tried eliminating fields and discovered that If their name started with M, it would be a problem... sometimes it was the company name, so I'd leave that blank and it would solve the problem. HOWEVER, now it's at the point where I can't even add someone's name - no phone, no email, no company, no category - just their name - and they are listed before the A's in my contact list - and make it so half the alphabel brings up no contacts. This happens no matter if it was done on my computer screen or in the blackberry itself. I am extremely frustrated and have resorted to deleting all new contacts once I've added them because they cause this problem. I consider myself fairly computer/bb literate, and have been clearing all filters and categories. Nothing seems to solve it - and this happened in my older 8310 too (that one got exchanged due to an email problem). HELP

  • Updating Contact info from Mail not displaying in Address Book

So I was updating an existing contact from Mail using the data detector feature. Address Book was already running in background. I clicked on the data detector and said "update existing contact". I pick the contact that I want to update. When I go to address book to see if the contact was updated, it "appears" that it hadn't updated. However, if I exit address book and restart the data does appear. So it get's in the database but doesn't display until exit and restart.

  • IOS 5 contacts: not shown in address book, shown in spotlight

A friend of mine with an iPhone4 and iOS5 reported to me he could not find (had lost) some contacts in the address book.
When i used the spotlight-page (swipe in the homescreen so you get to see the screen to the left of the homescreen) COULD find the contacts: you see the contact, and when selected, you get to the page in the address book with all the details.
So the contacts are there, but the Address Book just will not show them!
I am still looking for a fix for this. Does anybody know of a way to fix the indexing of the address book on the iPhone, as that might be the problem?

I had this also.  My contacts were not showing in the Contacts App or the Phone App but were when I searched.
If you went to Groups from Address book it only showed an option for contacts for my Google Apps contacts.
Originally I had icloud set to not do anything with contacts because I thought they were at Google Apps.  I turned on icloud for contacts.  Then when I went to groups from Contacts or Phone App there was an All Contacts option which then showed all my contacts.
