Contact "large photo" vs "thumbnail" photos

So if you apply a photo in address book on the mac, then sync it to the iphone, it never seems to show up as a large photo when receiving/placing a call to that person... it shows up as a thumbnail in the top right corner (the iPhone commercials work this way)
However, if you take a photo with your iphone, or import one, and assign it to a contact, it shows full-screen in the background, as if it was your wallpaper...
Is there a way to force everything to be big, or small... either way is fine, i just want it UNIFORM and not seemingly random all the time.

Then try using a smaller resolution. I don't see much need in using a really high quality image, with a large resolution to be viewed as a little thumbnail for just a couple of seconds when the person calls.

  • After changing contact photo on iPhone, photo no longer shows up in outlook

    I had my contact photos all setup on my iphone, and syncing correctly with iTunes and showing up correctly in Outlook 2007. The photos are stored on the iPhone, and set either by selecting the photo and doing "Assign to Contact", or in Contacts, Edit, Edit (the picture) and "Choose Photo". They would show up as a thumbnail in the Outlook 2007 Business Card view, and also in the detail when you double-click a contact. This part of the process hasn't changed.
    What has changed is iOS4. Now, when I go in and change a contact's photo on the iPhone, it no longer shows up correctly in Outlook 2007. It shows a blank space when showing the Business card view, but shows the photo correctly in the detail if I double-click a contact. Even if I change it back to the photo that it was, it still won't show correctly in Outlook 2007 Business Card view.
    Contacts whose photos I haven't changed since iOS4 show correctly in both places in Outlook 2007.
    Anyone else seeing this or have a fix?

    Hi!
    I'm having the same troubles and after searching for a while i found
    the following solution:
    In short (from http://gyoo.com/blog/?p=48)
    First, some figures:
    iPhone camera resolution: 1600×1200 (72dpi)
    iPhone screen resolution: 320×480 (160dpi)
    iPhone contact picture display size: 64×64 (160dpi)
    iPhone contact picture display size on call: 320×270 (160dpi)
    Outlook import resolution: 72×96 (72dpi)
    - On your PC, resize the image contact to 320×320 (160dpi),
    knowing that 25 pixels on the top and bottom will be semi-transparent when on call.
    - On your PC, create a folder iPhone Photos\Contacts and move your contact photos inside Sync the photos into your iPhone with iTunes through the Photos tab.
    - Select the iPhone Photos folder as source.
    - Manually associated the photo to your contact on the iPhone
    (Edit ->Add Photo->Choose Existing Photo)
    - Sync back the iPhone with iTunes.
    The photos will be associated automatically into Outlook with the good resolution this time.

  • In Yahoo Mail thumbnail photos appear broken in email messages

    I cannot view thumbnail photos in email messages that have photo attachments in my Yahoo Mail. The thumbnail appears as a broken image. When I click on the thumbnail it does open up a valid photo image.
    The problem occurs all the time in every email that has a thumbnail photo in it. It occurs in not only the Yahoo New Mail version but also in the Yahoo Classic Mail version.
    I have tried opening the email with both the Firefox and Google Chrome browsers, but the thumbnails appear broken when viewing the Yahoo Mail in both browsers. I am using Firefox 10.0 and Google Chrome 11.0 on a PC using Windows XP.
    I have a screenshot of how the broken thumbnails appear in the message if you want to see it.
    (It seems like the problem started with my upgrade to the Firefox 10.0 browser.)

    I've contacted yahoo on this same thing and it is them not your browser. I've tried in IE and Firefox and only get a generic thumbnail and if you click on slideshow you get black screen for each image.
    Stewart: I have checked and found that this is a technical issue going at our end.
    Stewart: Our Engineering team is already working on the resolution now and we intend to have it corrected as soon as possible.
    Stewart: The ticket number for this issue is 4904203.
    Doesn't look like they are in a hurry to fix the issue, can't believe more people haven't complained. It's been weeks for me and still doesn't work

  • In EVERY sent email, I'm seeing a thumbnail photo that is unwanted

    I am not sure how it is getting there, but my sent emails are ALL showing a thumbnail photo at the top. It's a personal photo from photo booth. It's in the header of every email, like a stationary or something, but I can't find it in mail preferences, stationary, or anywhere else. I did a test, and I don't see it at all when composing the email, but it showed up in the receiver's inbox in the header area, and shows up in each email in my sent mail folder. Please help, how do I get rid of it!!!

    Eric
    It's the photo of you in your AddressBook. Any contact that has a photo will show that pic in the email. And relax, it's not sent with the email.

  • Import thumbnail photos

    I'm trying to Import thumbnail photos to AD user accounts. They are saved in a folder with a first.last name. This script works but I just need it to either parse just user objects or only import from a particular OU, either one is fine with me for
    this particular excercise.
    $PhotoPath = "d:\Photos\*.*"
    ForEach ($PhotoFile in gci $PhotoPath)
    $User = '' + $PhotoFile.Name.substring(0, $PhotoFile.Name.Length - 4) + ''
    Import-RecipientDataProperty -Identity $User -Picture -FileData ([Byte[]]$(Get-Content -Path $PhotoFile.Fullname -Encoding Byte -ReadCount 0))
    Reason being, there are Contact objects that use the same name but with a (discription) tag on the end of it. example user = "tim.marshall" and the contact = "tim.marshall (Houston)". This script updates the users who do not have a orresponding
    contact but not the user object that have a corresponding contact. The contacts are in a seperate OU from the user objects.
    This is the error I get:
    The operation couldn't be performed because 'tim.marshall' matches multiple entries.

    First we don't understand what you code is trying to do.  If the files are named for the users then just use the file name.
    Get-ChildItem -Path d:\Photos\* -Include *.jpg |
    ForEach-Object{
    $User = $_.BaseName
    [byte[]]$filedata = Get-Content $_ -Encoding byte
    Import-RecipientDataProperty -Identity $User -Picture -FileData $filedata
    If the user's identity is the same as the file name then this will work.  If not then you have to figure out what the relationship is.
    Get-AdUser -anr $user -SearchBase $OU
    This will do an anonymous search for all matching users in a specific OU.`  Get the user and use 'SamAccountName' for Identitiy.
    ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

  • Photo Gallery thumbnails in business catalyst render in different sizes in different browsers

    Photo Gallery thumbnails in business catalyst render in different sizes in safari and chrome but are fine in firefox. What is the issue with Safari? I have tried the different algorithm options such as fill_proportional etc and firefox is the only browser that displays correctly. I thought safari was the most standards compatible browser - what's the problem here?

    Hi,
    If you have seperate XML file but with the same basic structure then you can change the XML a Spry dataset refers to and regenerate the spry region without reloading the full page.
    So on my photo gallery page I can change the album the photos are shown from via the seturl sprydata function as below.  dsPhotos being my Spry dataset that points to the relevant XML dataset with my image references and captions etc.  My XML is actually dynamically generated from Picasa RSS feeds (and RSS feeds are XML) but the principle will be the same with your static XML.
    First I add an event listener for when someone clicks on an album (the li tag within my div with the id "albums" holds a photo and title for each album.)
    function Albums()
    var myalbums = Spry.$$("#albums li", "TabbedPanels1")
    var rows = dsAlbums.getData();
    var setListener = function( element, value )
      Spry.Utils.addEventListener( element, "click", function(){ showAlbum( value ); },false );
    for( var i = 0, length = myalbums.length; i < length; i++ )
      setListener( myalbums[i], i );
    Then this is the code which changes the photo album to be shown. (when the user clicks the relevant album)
    function showAlbum(i)
    pauseShow();
    pImage = 'No';
    var rows = dsAlbums.getData();
    var albumid = rows[i]["albumid"];
    var url = "xml/PicasaAphotoFeed.asp?albumid=" + albumid;
    dsPhotos.setURL(url);
    dsPhotos.loadData();
    var rowcount = dsAlbums.getRowCount() - 1;
    var nextalbum;
    var navnext;
    var n;
    The page is here www.thehmc.co.uk/photo5.html is you want to see it in context.
    In your case showAlbum would switch between Frank.xml or Wolfie.xml depending on how you decide to name your xml datasets.

  • How do I move thumbnail photos within an event?

    I've tried highlighting a thumbnail photo and dragging it to (1) another photo to precede that photo and (2) to the space to the left of a photo. In each case, it didn't work.

    cactusTony
    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
    You can't do this is an Event. Events are a very basic time and date based organisation. To change the order of things in an Event, change the time relative to the pic you want to precede.
    Or... Make an album of the Event, then you can organise anything anyway you want. To do this just drag the Event to the Albums heading and it will make an album of the same name. As Albums only reference files in the Library they take up no extra disk space and have much better organisation possibilities.

  • My wife and I both have the new iPhones.  Is there a way to set up two separate iCloud accounts but have photo stream from both phones sync with one family mac?  So we don't want to share contacts or anything else, just photos... Thanks in advance

    My wife and I both have the new iPhones.  Is there a way to set up two separate iCloud accounts but have photo stream from both phones sync with one family mac?  So, we don't want to share contacts or anything else, just photos... Thanks in advance

    If you turned off Contacts wouldnt that mean that the Contacts would no longer be backed up to iCloud as well? That would make it a pain when upgrading a phone to not easily pull contacts back down.

  • What happened to the thumbnail photo in an event?  Previously all I had to do was to drag the thumbnail photo to a folder, now I need to drag each individual photo to that folder.  If that means a few or several, it's a hassle. Any help for this one?

    What happened to the thumbnail photos for an event?  Previously when I wanted to transfer an event to a specific folder all I needed to do was drag the thumbnail.  If there were multiple events, I only needed to pick the one I wanted and drag it.  Simple and it worked very well.  If there was an event with several, I only neede to drag the one thumbnail and it was done.  Now I need to drag each individual photo to the new folder.  Sometimes that could mean 10, 20 or more. Doing one at a time is can be a very slow process.  If there are events that need to be split, it can be even slower.  Any positive ideas will be greatly appreciated.

    You need to follow iPhoto terms since we only know what you tell us
    what are you calling folders - in iPhoto folders can not hold photos - albums hold photos and folders hold albums or other folders
    The basic default view of photo is by event (iPhoto '08 and later)
    Exactly what you you trying to do?

  • How do I click a large view of a photo

    How to I get a large view of a photo in LR4.  I want it to fill the entire screen on my laptop.

    They have, the solution is Lightoom 5.

    Thanks, that did it.  However I think Adobe ought to have a one button solution to fill the screen completely.

  • An error occurred while downloading a larger version of this photo for editing. Please try again later.

    I've moved to photos from iphoto and for a while all was good. And quite exciting. My entire 15k photos have migrated and are available on all my devices.
    Suddenly, I get this warning when I select or try to edit a photo: Cant Download Photo: An error occurred while downloading a larger version of this photo for editing. Please try again later.
    There is an exclamation  mark and a warning triangle on the picture. I am only able to test on my ibook as my Imac is out of action.
    If I log in to icloud in Safari, I can down load the full sized image no problem.  Any one got any ideas?

    Well stone me, it's started working.  Nothing changed on my side.....  go figure.

  • How to see all photos as thumbnails

    How do I view my photos as thumbnails in Preview or anywhere else, at the moment I can see some as thumbnails but most as JPEG generic icons.
    thanks,
    Michael (10.3.9)

    It must still be iPhoto v2 on your PMG4, horrendously unstable. But you should still never lose photos, iPhoto will never change or delete original photos unless you tell it to.
    It may also help if you set the iPhoto preference NOT to copy the photos to the photo library when importing into iPhoto. This means you'll need a directory structure that you can keep your photos in, somewhere that's easy to backup.
    Then import these into iPhoto, all that gets created in your iPhoto Library (in your Home folder) is the thumbnails and any photos edited in iPhoto. Again, the originals are untouched if you edit in iPhoto.
    However, forget iPhoto v2 altogether if you have pictures in the thousands - I've been digital since 1996 so I had too many for my first version.

  • Can't load thumbnail photo from file 'BBThumbs.dat'

    Hi everybody,
    I'm developing an application on BB to take and view photo. My problem is can't load the thumbnail photos from file 'BBThumbs.dat'. I'm using code as below:
    public byte[] getThumb(String fileName) {
    String DB = fileName.substring(0, fileName.lastIndexOf('/'))
    + "/BBThumbs.dat";
    fileName = fileName.substring(fileName.lastIndexOf('/') + 1, fileName
    .length());
    if (thumbsMap == null) {
    thumbsMap = new Hashtable();
    byte b[] = null;
    FileConnection fc = null;
    InputStream in = null;
    try {
    fc = (FileConnection) Connector.open(DB, Connector.READ);
    if (!fc.exists()) {
    return null;
    byte[] temp=new byte[(int)fc.fileSize()];
    in = fc.openInputStream();
    DataInputStream is=new DataInputStream(in);
    // b = getThumbNail(first, thumbsMap, fileName, in);
    is.readFully(temp);
    b=readThumbs(temp, fileName);
    } catch (Exception e) {
    } finally {
    if (fc != null) {
    try {
    fc.close();
    } catch (Exception e) {
    if (in != null) {
    try {
    in.close();
    } catch (Exception e) {
    return b;
    please give my any idea or suggestions. Thanks

    Try:
    !Section=Dimensions
    'Name;DimensionClass;DimensionAlias;CustomDimensionID
    SKU;Generic;;
    !Members=SKU
    'Name;DataType
    Brand1;Unspecified
    Brand2;Unspecified
    !Hierarchies=SKU
    'Parent;Child;DataStorage
    #root;Brand1;StoreData
    #root;Brand2;StoreData
    Tho I would add MemberValidForPlan#;Plan#Aggregation, where # is a number of your application which this member is valid for or even has a specific aggregation, as well
    example:
    !Hierarchies=SKU
    'Parent;Child;DataStorage;MemberValidForPlan1;MemberValidForPlan2;MemberValidForPlan3;Plan1Aggregation;Plan2Aggregation;Plan3Aggregation;UDA
    #root;Brand1;StoreData;Y;Y;Y;+;+;+;
    #root;Brand2;StoreData;Y;Y;Y;+;+;+;
    Even more as an idea use pipes, maybe.
    But you will need to say something about Aliases as well if this is a planning application.

  • New Photos App - Thumbnails on edge or not shown correctly

    Hi,
    after upgrading from iPhotos to Photos Version 1.0 (209.52.0), all my pictures that have been taken on edge are not shown correctly in thumbnail size.
    When double clicking one of it they are visualized correctly but the thumbnail is still wrong.
    The Problem is being fixed when rotating the thumbnail photo for and back on the overview page.
    The picture have been taken by a Sony Alpha 500
    Hope this gets fixed.
    regards
    christian

    In case anyone else has this issue...
    It appears that Photos is "fixing" these photos by itself.
    I have left Photos open all day (about 12 hours now), and now there are no more photos without thumbnails (that I could find anyway).
    There are still LOTS of photos that have fuzzy or improperly rotated photos, but I wonder if Photos is correcting these as well. I think I will leave the program open for another 12-24 hours and see what happens.
