Contact list duplication

I would appreciate any help... I have an iPhone4... in my contacts i notice that most of my contacts are duplicated in some cases upto 15 or so times.... in some of these repeated contacts the phone numbers are repeated sometimes 20 to 30 times... why would this be? Thank you

I am having the same problem. Some contacts duplicate, some do not. It started in the last month or so. I sync every weekend, and until recently have never had this problem. Now I get a message when synching that a large percentage of my contacts have changed. After the sync I'm stuck cleaning it all up manualy on the phone. I have my iP4 set to sync with Yahoo, and I end up with duplicates there too. Yahoo has a clean up tool, so it's easy to straighten out. I just synched again today and had to do it all over again. Some contacts on my phone had three and even four duplicates. Some were not duplicated at all. I don't want to sync anymore as this is EXTREMELY frustrating! I do not use mobil me.

First:
I have Gmail and an Exchange mail set up on my phone. I tidy up the contacts list by cloud (and phone); my contact list on the phone shows the changes.
Then I receive mail throughout the day and e-mail address from these emails have been added to my contacts. I do not want this.
Also, some contacts that I do NOT receive e-mail from and have deleted days ago will pop up in my contacts. Any help is appreciated.

Search for an app for your iPhone to delete the duplicated contacts. Like cleaner, or contact cleaner.
Google : cleaner iPhone contact. Good result.

Moving Mac Contact List to iPhone without return duplication?

Have updated contact list on my Mac ready to transfer to iPhone. Would like to transfer this list to my iPhone without the out of date iPhone contact details being added back into the updated Mac Contact list as has happened previously resulting in massive duplication.

you can back up the address book by going file menu, export, back up. That way if syncing messes up your address book you can always go back.
If your iphone has been set to sync with the computer. and it added a bunch of numbers to the computer, and then you removed them from the numbers from the computer, when you sync again it's going to apply those changes to the iphone.
or you could tell itunes to wipe the address book and then sycn the contacts from the computer.

Duplications in Contact List Under Favorites

I just got a replacement for my Kin OneM because I was having issues with the original one. There is something with the new Kin device, however... When I look at the contacts list by pressing "Contacts" on the "Apps" page, the list comes out normally. But when I click on the "+" on the "Favorites" page and the contact list displays, everything is repeated twice on that list. I can't even delete the duplicated ones manually because the only way to delete is to go through the contacts button on the Apps page and nothing is duplicated there.
Any ideas as to why this is happening and how I can fix?

Nope, I am not in the edit mode.
This is what is happening:
When you click "Contacts" on the "Apps" page, you get a list of all of your contacts. This list for me is fine.
When you click "+" on the "Favorites" page, you also get a list of all of your contacts - when you click on one, that contact is now listed as a "Favorite." For me, all of my contacts are duplicated on this list of contacts, which should not be happening.
So, to reiterate:
Apps --> Contacts --> Contact list displays A, B, C, D, etc.
Favorites --> + --> Contact list displays A, A, B, B, C, C, D, D, etc.

Syncing iPhone 3G creates unwanted new contacts in Gmail contact list.

For reasons that are unknown to me, I have many multiple duplications of contacts in my contact list. So, using the contact manager in Gmail I spent many hours cleaning up my contact list so that all of my contacts were correct and not duplicated. However, as soon as I synced the iPhone 3G I immediately had twice as many contacts as before I started, once again ending up with hundreds of unnecessary contact duplications.
I have now spent many days reading internet blogs and forum posts, and came up with the following (which I incorrectly thought was the solution):
1] In iTunes, I clicked on 'Edit' --> 'Preferences' --> 'Devices'. Here, I enabled the option to 'prevent iPods, iPhones, and iPads from syncing automatically'. I also enabled the option to 'warn when any of the data on this computer will be changed'.
2] With the iPhone connected, in iTunes I clicked on 'devices' --> 'iPhone' --> 'Info'. Here, I un-checked the option to 'sync contacts', followed by clicking the button 'remove contacts'.
Now I confirmed that there are no contacts on the iPhone. Zero. None.
3] In Gmail, I once again spent many hours going trough all of my contacts, cleaning up the unnecessary duplicates. This time, however, I chose to export my contact list to a .CSV file on my computer, so that if this happens again I would just delete them all and restore my contact list fro this backup file.
Now I have 0 contacts on the iPhone, and approximately 250 contacts on my Gmail account.
4] In iTunes 10.2.1.1 running on Windows 7, I once again clicked on 'Edit' --> 'Preferences' --> 'Devices'. Here I now clicked the button to 'reset sync history'.
5] I connect the iPhone to the computer, re-enable the option to 'sync contacts with Gmail' and click the 'Apply' button. The iPhone sync process begins and I am presented with the following message:
Syncing with Google contacts will change more than 0% of your contacts on this computer.
Information: Contacts. Add:41. Delete:0. Modify:2
Now I already confirmed that there were no contacts on the iPhone, so where are these 41 additions and 2 modifications coming from !?
I let it happen, knowing that I can repeat this process, using the '.CSV' backup file containing my correct contacts. When the Sync finishes, I log in to my Gmail account and check my contacts. I find that I now have approximately 360 contacts (which is a lot more than the original 250 plus 41), many of which are duplicated multiple times (one contact is even duplicated 6 times). I also notice contacts which I had previously deleted from my Gmail contacts list have now returned.
As there were 0 contacts on the phone, where are these duplicates and previously deleted contacts coming from when I sync the iPhone !? Somebody from Apple please help me.

O.K. I may have fixed it (time will tell).
As I had previously chosen to sync with Microsoft Outlook 2010, but the trial period expired and the price to but it was far too high, so I changed to Syncing with Gmail. Therefore I wondered if Outlook may be affecting the iTunes sync even though it was not current chosen in iTunes contact sync option. So, I un-installed Microsoft Office 2010 and re-booted the PC. Now, pressing the 'Rest Sync History' button in iTunes no longer created new contacts in Gmail.
However, this did not completely solve the problem. With 0 contacts on the phone, and 0 contacts in Gmail, syncing the phone still re-created 41 of the previous contacts. Thew only way I could get rid of these 41 contacts was to deleted them one at a time from the iPhone itself. Doing it from Gmail, or un-checking the iTunes 'sync contacts' option to delete all contacts from the phone at once, did not work; the contacts still kept coming back.
Funny thing though, iTunes did indicate that it would add 41 contacts when I synced the phone to the computer, but after deleting them from the phone it now warned that it would delete 41 contacts from the computer. But, these contacts were not in my Gmail, so I still don't know where they were coming from.
Either way, after many hours spent over many days, I seem to now be able to sync my phone contacts with my Gmail without it creating any more unnecessary duplicates.
I hope someone out there can tell me why this happened, and I hope my experiences with this help someone else in a similar situation.

Contacts list Sim list

Having copied the Address book from my Palm to my Curve 8520, I find it is sharing the folder with the Contacts list from my Sim card. Can I do anything to ensure that the folder always opens to the Sim card list first?

OK...so this post is strictly about wanting to send your contacts to the SIM. That capability is one at a time only. And there's a reason for that.
The BB Address Book is robust, allowing you to have one name with multiple phone numbers and addresses. The SIM phonebook, on the other hand, is much less capable...if, for instance, you have one contact with three phone numbers in your BB Address Book, the SIM phonebook would require three separate entries to contain the same data (with the obvious duplication of the name on three separate records).
So, I must ask...why on earth do you want to send your contacts to your SIM? There are much better methods for moving your contacts from the BB to somewhere else...

Sync with second user outlook contact lists?

I have an enterprise user that would like to sync his iPhone with his administrative assistant's Outlook contact lists. Is there a way to accomplish this?

The iPhone 4 will allow sync with multiple Exchange accounts. It would be interesting to try this, at least on a test basis. I'd worry though about duplication or overlap of contact lists. I haven't tried this myself but it would be interesting to see what happens.

Contacts issues - send contacts to at&t phone book or sim card? and un able to unsync email contact list with phone contact list

I have had several issues with my contacts on this phone. I cannot figure out how to send my contacts to the at&t phone book or to my sim card. The options/menu button in contacts is completely useless. It should give me the option on the sim card to transfer contacts form one list to another. I have already written on another forum about the contact list not letting me unsync one of my email contact lists and how I have 3 copies of all of my contacts because my email contacts are mixed in with my phone contacts.
BB really needs to fix this issue with the contact list because it is beyond frustrating. I even downloaded the new BB software today and it still hasn't been fixed.

can you open windows for each set of files, next to eachother on your desktop? If so, bring the files from the transfer into the window for the present computer- taking them out of the imported file...
try that and report back

Unable to search successfully on Company field in a Contact list - SharePoint 2013 online

When searching for a company in a contact list, I get NO search results when the line items returned should be abundant.
I am using SharePoint 2013 Online with an Office 365 E3 license. I am the global administrator as well as site collection owner.
Since Company is an existing site collection column, I went to its managed property in the SharePoint Administration portal. I went to Search > Manage Search Schema > Managed properties and opened CompanyOWSTEXT in order to click the Searchable checkbox.
All items were grayed out and unable to be edited. The Searchable check box was UNCHECKED.
Why am I unable to edit that property?
How can I ensure that the Company field is crawled and can return search results?

Go to Settings, iTunes & App Stores, click on the Apple ID. Sign out. Click again and sign in with your Apple ID.
Is it possible that this someone in your contact list had the phone and downloaded an app for you?

I've a new account on iMac. When composing an email the contact list does not show up on the bar, which would allow me to select the persons I want to include on the distribution of the email. When I start keying in a name in the email, it comes up with the person's address, which shows it is synced. How do I engage the contact list from the email like I do on my old account (where a contact list icon shows up, along with the "attach" and other icons) ?

With the New Message window open, go to the View menu and select "Customize Toolbar...".
In the screen that opens, drag the item labelled "Address" into the Toolbar area of the New Message window, then click the "Done" button.
That item should be then added to the Toolbar for the New Message window.
Note that the main Mail window and the New Message window (as well as the separate message window if you open a message that way) use different toolbars - the settings/inclusions for one do not carry over to another.
