Contact list question please?
Sharing an iCloud account with my wife how do I establish a unique contact list for my iPhone6 ?
If you each want to have independent contact lists then you will want to go into the iCloud options on each of your devices and turn off the Contacts option. If you want to have a shared contact list and a separate one then I'm not sure you you would go about that or if it's even possible (at least through iCloud).

First, be sure that the contacts on the devices are in the "icloud" section and not the "On my iPhone" (or iPad) section of the contact listings/groups.
Missing contacts:
Here's a test to perform - using a computer's browser, log into icloud.com and go to the Contacts page. If most of them are gone, then they are gone.
If they show up, then the problem is that your device is not connecting to the Contacts database on icloud.
On the device, go to Settings>icloud. Be sure icloud is on and using the right ID. If not, scroll to the bottom of the page and tap Delete Account - this just disconnects the device from that account, no data is lost. Then log back in using the correct ID. ALSO - be sure the Contacts are turned on (on the same screen).
Note: Contacts are not part of an iCloud backup, since they are part of contacts database on iCloud's servers. So performing a restore will not help.

Then they have been deleted. There are many reasons for this. One possibility is that someone else is using the same iCloud account (family member, etc.) and they deleted contacts, thinking they did want them on THEIR device. How to get them back? Unfortunately, an iCloud backup does not include any of the sync databases, like contacts, notes, calendars, reminders, etc. because the data is already stored in these databases. Your only hope for restoring the data is if you had that data on a computer (like a mac's Contacts, Calendars, etc.) and that data was backed up using whatever backup software you typically use (e.g. Time Machine on a mac). Just restore the data files back to the computer. Other than that, I'm afraid the data is gone. -
Quick question...Can anyone tell me why my skype contact list doesn't have the magnifying glass and alphabet listed on the right side of the screen as the phone's internal contact list does? My wife has the exact same iPhone 4, with the same version of skype on it and her skype contact list has the alphabet bar.
I think it has something to do with my skype account because when I log in with her account on my phone, the alphabet bar show up. Likewise, when I log into my account on her phone, the alphabet bar disappears. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.Hello,

Hi,
If I recall correctly, prior to the recent update my contact list was arranged by last name or first name. After the update, it was arranged differently (visually speaking). The contact list was seperated alphabetically instead of all the names just being in order down the screen.
Well, my phone is not showing usage stats so I restored it last night and now the contact list is back to the same plain list. I prefer the names being physically grouped by alpha.
Is this a setting somewhere that I have over looked? I'd like to change it back.

edited to add: The contact list looked just like the Artist or Song list in the ipod section.Actually Damon, I found the answer on my own, lol. Apparently, the way one's contact list is displayed depends on the number of contacts you have on your iPhone. When I restored my phone last night and didn't sync my contacts, I had less than 20, giving me the boring looking list of names. Once I added contacts back and went over 20 total, it changed to the "ipod-like" list I was describing.
So...
under 20 contacts= plain jane list
20 or more contacts= much nicer, alpha sorted list -

azWhat you can do is, go to Settings-> facebook-> Your name-> delete account-> delete-> remove facebook info.
This will remove all the fb contacts. but before you again sign your fb account into your iOS, have the option of contacts set to off. -
When I was working with my old job I had a contact list on my phone that was associated with my job's personal email address. Now that I have a new mac and am now a new full time student I would like to use my new uni email address as my default contact list. I have now made this change but have only just realised that I have been adding contacts for a period of months using this now redundant list.
When I sync my computer with my phone (which is working great using iTunes), I am unable to get all of my recent contacts.
I have three groups:
"All contacts" - I understand this is all of my contacts on my phone
"All from My Mac" - This is my new list and constitutes around 80% of my contacts
"Contacts" - This is the old list from my previous employer and contains (I think) 100% of my contacts. Well all of my useful ones anyway - maybe 99%. I would like to delete this group as I don't use the email address anymore and don't work for them!
The end result that I am looking for, is a complete list of ALL of my contacts synced with my computer in Outlook, and to be able to delete my old work contact list!

I have an iphoe 4 which is completely updated but daily i have an issue of it deleting some of my contacts from the contacts list. Please I need help in understanding why is this happening with some of the contacts?
Are they being deleted from all devices, or just one?
Perhaps it might be worthwhile to just toggle contacts off, then back on, in iCloud. -
Contact List when "Phone" is Pressed
I know how to filter the contact list under "people" ( view just the group I want) but when you just press "phone" every single person from facebook and my contact list in google - is there any way to filter that list as well?
Please change the contact view and retest.

Newly added contacts don't appear in my contact list.
I recently upgraded from a iPhone 3GS to a 4S. When I add a new contact on my phone it does not appear in my contact list. If I go to a new text message and type the name it appears as a suggestion and I can select it that way. I'm unable to edit the contact as it does not appear under my contact list. I have synced in through iTunes and even restored it. The numbers still do not show up in the contact list. I've also attempted to log into iCloud and the names do not appear there either. I've turned the contacts off under the iCloud settings and nothing changed. I still cannot see my newly added contacts in my contact list. Please help as I have tried everything I know and have no luck. It alsmot feels as though my numbers are being added to a "hidden" place. Thanks in advance!
I've never done a sync with any program other than iTunes and iCloud. My groups are displayed in the left corner and they are all selected (I acutally just made up the groups today while messing with this whole issue so there aren't even contacts added to groups yet) and showing.

X2-02 contact list not opening
In my mobile contact list suddenly disappeared. I am afraid that it got deleted. But as it can be seen in my previous messages the names of the message sender still can be seen although there is no name in my contact list. Please somebody help me out. I beleive there is a setting issue because of which i cannot see the names in my contact list. But the names appear in the inbox messages.

Supriyacse_supriya, sometimes the phonebook gets corrupted. If you really, really need it and you do not have a backup, I recommend MobiMB » A:\Hiddenfolder\phonebook\misc. If you have a backup, delete the whole phonebook within Menu » Contacts » (More ») Delete all contacts and then import your backup.

Synching Contact List from Exchange and from G Mail
I have set my I phone to my MS Exchange for my work emails. The only contact list that comes up in my I phone is the Exchange contact list. I also have set my G-mail personal email account up on the I phone but I am not able to import/synch my G-mail contact list or my Mac Address book contact list. Please help!

I had my email contact list in an Excel File. Then I made a PDF File out of it with Adobe. I still can not get it to Download into my Outlook Email Contact List ! Please Help !

As with the Mail app on a Mac, the iPhone's Mail app stores all email recipients in a list of previous recipients which is separate from the address book or contacts. The email address autofill feature when addressing an message pulls from Contacts and from the list of previous recipients.
Different from the Mail app on a Mac, there is no access to the list of previous recipients with iOS on an iPhone, iPod Touch, or iPad to remove a previous recipient from the list, or to add a previous recipient to the address book or contacts that is not already entered - not at the present time anyway.
The only way to purge the list of previous recipients at the present time is by restoring your iPhone with iTunes as a new iPhone or not from your iPhone's backup, which will start being re-populated again with every sent message. -

You can sync the iPod's Contacts app with some other contact programs/mail accounts.
