Contact names disappeared only numbers - factory reset, how????

This AM my 4S decided my contact names were worthless and decided I should refer to my contacts by their phone numbers whether it be via text messaging or calling. I have tried restarting the phone and reseting the phone. I'm at a loss, how do I preform a factory reset???
Or does someone have a solution to my cunundrom???

Hi
I have the same problems as Anne Kathrine - just I don't use MobileMe for sync.
Some of my contacts just shows their number in sms, but when I get the message and if they call me, their name shows up as expected. I can also write a sms to one of the persons using their name.
Have also tried the same things as Anne Kathrine has done.
Regards
Freddy

  • My phone displays numbers instead of contact names for incoming calls and text - how do I fix?

My phone displays numbers instead of contact names for incoming calls and text - how do I fix?  It used to display the names if there was a contact listed, now it just shows numbers regardless of whether or not the number corresponds to a contact name in the contact list.  Can anyone help?  I googled this problem and lots of folks have experienced it, however there is not a consensus for a resolution.

Alexandribill, I have been having the exact same issue.  I got a new phone and restored my contacts.  If the # doesn't have the area code first then the name isn't shown.  I just added my husbands area code to my phone and called my phone from his and now his name shows up...Ugh, I have to go through and manually add the area code to all my contacts....
I'd say Verizon needs to rewrite their program to include the area code in the restoring from backup process!

  • Is there any way to recover (or even view) my contact list / phone book post factory reset?

Is there any way to recover (or even view) my contact list / phone book post factory reset?

I've not failed to do that.  The contact list on my Mac is from my phone, not my wifes phone (which is the troublesome one).  I restored it to last backup and it is back but I am not certain the problem will be fixed.  Time will tell.  My question is how to get her phones contact list back post reset...just the contact list.

  • HT201210 my contact names disappeared how do i get them back?

My iPhone erased all my contact names, but people's numbers are still listed.  Any idea how do get them back?

Quit Safari completely and restart the iPad. Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Double tap the home button and the task bar will appear with all of your recent/open apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner of the Safari icon. Tap the home button or anywhere above the task bar. Restart the iPad.
Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
If that didn't work - try this. Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.

  • Favorite contacts appear as only numbers, no names.

After iOS8 update, my iPhone 5's Favorites show only numbers, not names. They also do not appear in my Contacts list. All other Contacts appear as they should. I am able to call and message all my Contacts.

your post got me to thinkin - in fact I do have memory of having rxd some texts from ATT - these were inititated by them - and have even rxd spam texts from unknown sources- which ended up in the list as "numerical contacts"
    I deleted those.....
Now as far as narrowing down - seems like there must be some link from the senders end between their "text name" and their associated number... which makes me wonder - what if they send u a text but don't bother to setup the "text name" stuff ? if they were a stranger on my radar I wouldn't have their contact info...
So perhaps it gets down to whether or not I initiated the conv
if I didn't - yet still put them into my Macbook Pro's Address Book
one might presume the iPhone's text app is smart enough to link that strange phone number to a contact
Perhaps an oversite on the programmers part ?

  • Messages Contact Names Appear as Numbers Now Instead

I have OS X 10.8.5, my Messages app has all of my contacts as their phone numbers now instead of their names.  There are a few contact that have their name appear still, but a majority of them appear as phone numbers.  I don't remember if this happened after I installed iOS 7 on my phone, but I think there might be a correlation between the two.
Has this happened to anyone else?  How do I fix this?

I've tested these instructions only with the Safari web browser. If you use another browser, they may not work as described.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    ls -@Oden L*/A*/Add* | open -ef
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window by pressing the key combination command-V.
A TextEdit window will open with the output of the command. If the command produced no output, the window will be empty. Post the contents of the TextEdit window (not the Terminal window), if any — the text, please, not a screenshot. The title of the window doesn't matter, and you don't need to post that.

  • Now that I have downloaded the new software, the contact name disappears and just the number shows up on my text.

Now that I have downloaded the new software for my iphone, the contact name of the person who is texting me disappears and only the phone number is there. This only happens if the person texting is using an iphone.
    Any solutions?

You just need to restore your phone and if you can then you must get an iphone 5s. Its the best iphone ever. I advise you stay away from droids if you have used an apple device. Well like many people you can also keep two phones one apple and one droid.

  • When someone messages me their contact name does not show up as how i saved them!!! does this mean someone has access to my phone?

When I get a message from my friend, her contact name does not show up the way I saved her and I am wondering if someone has hacked my phone or something

That is what I am trying to work through. I understand you are seeing it in Notifications, that was what I was trying to confirm. When you open the message, what is displaying on the phone, Juan? Is Notification the only place that you are seeing this name differently? And yes, if you have the name saved as John, it should display as John. How are you backing up/syncing your contacts? Are you using a supported application on the computer, or are you using a cloud service, such as iCloud? If you go into your contacts and look in the upper left corner of the application, does it list more than one source for your contacts? Do you have more than one person with the same phone number listed in contacts, similar to having two people that work at the same place? Is the Notification only displaying a first name and no last name? Do you have first names only in your contacts?

  • 6500 syncs contact names but not numbers with Outl...

I can get my 6500 slide to connect with my computer and it synchonises all my contacts with MS Outlook and if I add any new contacts that week it will sync them across aswell, but it only brings across the contact name not their phone number???
This is rather annoying as I have 471 contacts on my Nokia 6500 slide. I cannot get the contacts to mass send via bluetooth either, so I was wondering if there is some sort of option I can tick to get all of my contacts details i.e. numbers, home numbers and email address.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Regards,
    James

Does anyone have an answer to this issue? I have been told to sit and bluetooth 1 by 1 but that will take me a long long time. Why doesn't the 6500 slide synch names AND numbers with outlook? Surely someone has a workaround here?
Please please help. I have been carrying around 2 phones for the last few weeks now.
    Many thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    James

  • 2015 Yosemite 10.10.2 MacBook Pro factory reset how can i do??

Help Help How can i factory reset my 2015 Yosemite 10.10.2 MacBook Pro??

Boot with command-R held down to the recovery partition. Then when it comes up, select utilities and then Disk Utility. In Disk Utility, erase your hard drive, and then install OS X, and you'll be back to "factory reset" condition.
Note you'll lose all data so you should have a backup of anything you want to keep on external media.

  • Some contact names disappeared

Yesterday some of my contact names just disappeard.
Some of them are in my favorites where they now shows up as a number instead.
I Updated the phone to the latest iOS three days ago.
Someone having a clue why and what to do?

Check under Settings > iCloud to see if the Contacts switch is ON (green side showing). If it's already on, switch it off for 30-60 seconds, then back on again. Your contacts should start showing up shortly.

  • Deleted icloud account and now names are gone in contacts only numbers shown.  How do I get the names back?

I created an icloud account but my 2 kids shared the same itunes account.  I had the kids delete their icloud accounts from their phones.  My contacts and my daughter's contacts merged on my phone, when she deleted her icloud account her contacts no longer show names... only phone numbers.  How can we fix this?

The only possible way that you could get it back is if the app is still in your iTunes library. If you don't sync with iTunes and it is not in your iTunes library, unfortunately, your version of the app is gone now.

  • Contacts names disappeared

My entire contact list emptied. I still see numbers if under favorites and recents, just not names. The last time this happened I synced to a backup on a specific date. Now I can't find a choice in dates to sync. All other info is in my phone. Help! How can I get my contact list back?

    Copied from my previous post.
Although contacts are included with your iPhone's backup, contacts are designed to be synced with a supported application on your computer.
I think I'm pretty much sailing up a creek without a paddle.
Yes you are, which is why you should sync contacts with a supported application on your computer as is designed and intended. How do you get by without having all your contact info available on your computer, or having email addresses only for contacts on your computer, phone numbers only for contacts with your cell phone, and mailing addresses only for contacts who knows where. And what would happen if your iPhone were lost or stolen and you didn't have the resources to purchase another iPhone at the time?
Sorry, but I think you can kiss your contact info goodbye, but lesson learned.

  • Can't change contact name of recent numbers I call...

I recently called a number and I would like to add that number to my contact's with the appropriate name.  Visiting the profile and even typing the number in again on the keypad doesn't seem to give  any option to save this contact with an appropriate name.  I can't believe i'm even here typing this.  The small 3 dot's lower right hand corner only give the option to block or remove contact.
    I thought this was 2014.

Yes absolutely amateur and unbelievably inconsiderate and above all DUMB to omit this function. I now have a long list of numbers in recently called and a big hassle if I want to figure out who is who. I thought it was either me being thick, or something temporary glitch. But obviously no one at Skype CARES, is this true? Do I pay for this service???
