Contact names not appearing in texts or when calls recieved

I got off a plane from the UK to the US (this was a return trip, i'm from the US on Verizon) and when I turned my iPhone 4S back on, all of the contact names (who are in my Contacts) disppeared from emails, texts and my phone log.  A friend told me to "Import SIM Contacts" but that didn't do anything.  I deleted all of my texts hoping that when I sent new texts and recieved calls names would appear, however they still are not.  Is there anything I can do other than take it to the Genius Bar?

I didn't have the problem when returning from International, but I did have the problem right after my new Verizon iphone was set up last week.
After reading some of the posts in the support forum, I first edited my contacts to include the +1 in front of the phone numbers (this may have been an unnecessary step, and it certainly was an annoying one).
Second, I used the *228 set up feature, closed the phone, contacts and text functions on the phone, then turned the phone off and back on, and it seemed to fix the problem for the most part.  I think if you search the forum for *228, you will find posts that have the full sequence of steps to follow..
I have other issues with my phone, but at least this one seems cleared up for now.

  • Contact name not displaying for texts/messages, only phone number does

When I turn on my iPhone 6 (iOS 8.0.2) in the morning (I shut it off at night), any received text messages (iMessages or standard texts) only show the phone number of the person who sent the text and the standard tone for texts is heard, when it should display the name and play the special text tone I setup on specific contact records.  It is not til after I use the Touch ID or enter my passcode that the name of the contact who sent the text displays AND the special text tone for that contact is heard.  This not normal behavior.  Even upon startup on my former iPhone (5), any texts received displayed the contact name and played the appropriate tone when the phone was turned on during the morning.  HELP!  I believe this is a bug; but, would like to have this confirmed.  If it's a setting or combination of settings that I'm missing in iOS 8.0.2, please let me know.
My contacts have never been stored in iCloud nor do I plan to use iCloud.
    Thanks!

Try this: when device is ON remove the battery, wait a minute and turn the battery back to the device.

  • Contacts' name not appearing when called locally while travelling !!!

    iPhone 3G 3.0
When called locally abroad during travel the contact name does not appear. I have stored all my numbers in Int'l format.
Is there a fix / tool to sort out this issue?

I used to experience this. What I do now is store multiple versions of the same number, with and without the country codes. Mostly I use the country code version to dial out, while the phone uses the non-country code version to ID in-coming calls.
For example, Contact "Buddy #238" may have two phone numbers, even though he really has just the one:
    78 (555) 123-1234, and
    (555) 123-1234
I'd use the first to call out, but the in-coming calls may tend to show up as the second. Coming to think of it, which of the two number formats does your caller ID display when your friends call? Does any of this seem applicable at all? If you notice a different format for in-coming calls, just add that number to the existing contact(s).

  • Contact names not showing on text or calls - uk iPhone on O2

I know there are numerous threads on this already but all seem to be for US phones mostly on Verizon.
My contacts names in SMS randomly started disappearing. First messages from two people only showed as numbers. Now within two days all texts on show numbers. Some are set with +44 some not. All are in my contacts. I have two contact lists (thanks to not being able to merge my existing MobileMe with existing apple account when upgraded to IOS5 - thanks apple) but this hasn't caused an issue until now. I have tried switching both iCloud and MobileMe contacts off and on - various combinations. Have tried international assist off and on. Have added each number to existing contact and tried setting up as a new contact. Have synced and rest phone. Nothing works.
    Any ideas anyone?

After calling Verizon, here is a fix that worked for me.
1.) Look at your contacts information on the iPhone. If your phone numbers are not formatted with the parentheses and dashes, and are just a string of numbers like this: 1234567890, it likely means something went afoul in the initial sync. This is a good indicator that the following will work.
    2. BACKUP YOUR IPHONE ON ITUNES before you go any farther. You may eject the iPhone at this point or leave it connected. I left mine connected to my desktop.
    3. Then go to Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content and Settings. You will receive a prompt or two to make certain this is what you want. Proceed.
    4. Let the Reset process conclude. It may take a couple minutes or so.
    5. You will have to go through the re-activation process afterwards. Slug through it.
    6. When all that is finished, reconnect your iPhone (if you disconnected it after backup).
    7. When asked, select "Restore iPhone from a Backup". Let the process finish.
    8. Now, check your contacts. If instead of seeing a line of numbers for your phone entries, you see a number properly formatted like this: (123) 456-7890, then you have likely solved your problem.
    9. Try calling your iPhone from a phone that is in your contacts list and see what happens.
    10. If this doesn't work, you will likely have to call Verizon or Apple. The Verizon tech support agent said that the issue has been sent to Apple for resolution. It may be something amiss in the initial install of iOS to the Verizon phones. Who knows, but this is defnitely a software issue of some type.

  • Contact names not appearing on iphone 6

Yesterday I noticed when I received a call the person's name did not appear. Well today in my favorites- no names just phone number. And in my Contacts there are quite a few missing. I did do Backup Assistant yesterday as I was prompted to do so. Never had a problem before when i ran backup assistant.
Any ideas of what I can do to fic this problem?

    Hi Sandy1624,
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
It sounds like some Contacts are missing after backing up your iPhone. I know it can be frustrating when data is unexpectedly lost.
If you're using iCloud contacts, you may want to log on to iCloud.com to make sure the contacts are correct there. If so, use these steps to re-sync your contacts on your iPhone:
Turn iCloud Contacts off and back on
    Tap Settings > iCloud.
    Turn Contacts off.
You can choose Delete from My [device] if your data exists at icloud.com/contacts and on one or more of your devices. Otherwise, choose Keep on My [device].
Wait a few minutes, then turn Contacts back on.

If your Contacts were only on your iPhone, it may be necessary to restore the data from your backup. See this article for more help with restoring from a backup:

    All the best,

  • Contact names not showing on texts - N95

I have a Nokia n95, on 02. I got it in June of last year, so it's no longer under warranty.
On Friday just gone, for some unknown reason, when i receive a text, it comes up with the number of the person that sent it, starting with +44, despite the fact that that persons number is in my phone book.
it seems to do this intermittently, for example this morning I got three texts from the same friend, one came up with her name, and the other two came up with her number starting in +44.
I did a search online to try and trace the problem, and the only answers that I came up with were duplicate phone entries, which is not the cause. The friend that was texting this morning for example, her numbers been in my phone for as long as I can remember, and I've not added anybody else into my phone book for weeks, and her number or name is not duplicated at al, yet this is happening. the same with my boyfriend, he's away this weekend, and on Friday night we were texting and the problem just started with no traceable reason, yet his phones been in my phone book for years, and I've obviously been texting him for as long as I've had the n95, with no problems. his name or number is not duplicated at all, yet now sometimes his name comes up on texts, and sometimes it's his number.
If anybody has got any ideas at all as to what has caused this and how to fix it, I would be really grateful.
    Many thanks,
    Hayley

i don't know if both of you my friends are on the same network. but , sometimes this issue comes up when the network has a problem sending the correct phone number.
so, it might not be a phone problem. i've experinced similar problems when my network was maintainence to the system. the problem resolved itself few days later.

  • Contact names not appearing in m/book mess. app

I have a mid 2013 macbook air, purchased in spring 2014, ever since it was new it would not always display a contact name in the message app, sometimes it would just display a phone no as the only form of identification for a particular message thread. some message streams would have proper ID, IE a name, others would just have the contacts phone number, it was a bit hit or miss.. this has recently gotten much worse, now 95 percent of my message streams have no contact name, only a number showing.. an Apple tech told me its because phone/macbook integration is only a few months old, and this is basically the state of affairs at the min, it may improve over time. he also told me that my macbook can glean a certain amount of contact info from my phone, if it is on the same wi fi etc.
The reason i am enquiring here, as to the veracity of the above answer i got from Apple, is not so much lack of faith, usually their tech guys are very good in my experience, BUT, i have seen other people with this same problem asking for help on various forums, and people have posted replies on HOW TO FIX THIS ISSUE, which made me wonder if it is indeed a fixable issue.. interestingly, none of the fixes mentioned has worked for me so far, so as a last resort, can any of you tech genius's suggest a fix???
PS, many thanks in advance to any kind soul, prepared to take the time to help a doofus like me..

After speaking to more than one Apple Genius who struggled to fix the above, i visited my local store and spoke to a dude who i believe was more of a sales asst/supervisor than a 'Genius', he quickly found that my hotmail and icloud contacts did not match, and this was causing the issue, he advised me to ensure all of my contacts from both of the aforementioned, were entered into my macbook contact app and thus icloud, then to switch off hotmail contacts in my settings.

  • Contact Name not appearing when I get an incoming ...

    Hi,
Yet more problems with the N97 - I've noticed over the past 3 days that when I check my call logs it says that I have rang random number(s) (no name appears) so I text the number saying "Hi who's this?" and it turned out to be a mate and my girlfriend lol!
I don't understand why it's doing this? The only thing I've done recently - is receive a song via bluetooth from my girlfriends 5800 which failed a number of times!!! (then eventually I got the song through, opened the inbox and the message went to save the song crashed when trying to save it to a memory location)... and it's saved to my phone memory (I only have 1.1Mb of free space left now... (aside from the mass memory of course ) - I don't know how to rectify this problem although I haven't tried connecting the phone to the PC (PC Suite) and couldn't find the file in the file manager...
What could this be? My dad phoned me about 10 mins ago and it came up with no name...?
I've managed to sort the internet problem with the phone sort of... is this something else the latest update has fooked up?
    Thanks
    Ash

The ringtone issue is well known on the N97, it's down to a bug in the current and previous firmwares.  It's apparently fixed in the new 2.0 firmware due for release from this weekend if the rumours are to be believed.  The other problem here is that regardless of the ringtone you have specified, it'll randomly play the default Nokia tune.
Regarding the contacts problem, check if you have any contact details stored on the phone SIM.  Anything there with the same number as a contact as in your other storage memories needs sorting.  The same is also true if, for example, you have separate entries for people, say one for 'Mum' and one for 'Dad' as they have different mobile phone numbers, they'll shame the same 'Home' number so when that 'home' number calls you, it won't show as Mum or Dad on the display as calling, it'll just show the number if it's not network blocked.
I hope that helps explain it.  Duplicates are a problem.  Nothing major, just annoying.

  • Contact Names not appearing in messages?

    Hi all,
After a recent visit abroad (which my phone/network wouldnt work!) I have returned home to find whenever someone texts me, in the menu it will show their number (ie +4407.....) rather than their name.
A visit to my network shop didnt help. So i tried saving each text number into each individual contact and that dosent work either!!
    Any ideas much appreciated.
    Thanks

    hi,
I have seen three threads on this and today saw a link to a fourth that was in fact marked as solved.
In the fourth it suggested deleting com.apple.imessages.bag.plist  (responsible for the Server contact) and com.apple.imservice.iMessages.plist (Holds your Apple ID and Alias).
My Contacts  are in the format of +44(0)telephonenumber
I have no issues calling people on the iPhone.

  • Name not found  in Weblogic12c only when calling it fromTomcat7

    Hi,
    the scene is blow:
my EJB3 is deployed in remote weblogic12c server .
my web is deployed in my local tomcat7 .
when I call the EJB by client , it will return the values.
    Properties props = new Properties();
    props.setProperty(Context.INITIAL_CONTEXT_FACTORY,
    "weblogic.jndi.WLInitialContextFactory");
    props.setProperty(Context.PROVIDER_URL, "t3://XXX.XXX.XXX.XX:7172");

    XXXFacadeEJBRemote test = (XXXFacadeEJBRemote ) ctx.lookup("java:global.EMSAPP.EMSDTOFacadeEJB.EmsDTOFacadeEJB!com.singtel.eshop.ems.ejb.stateless.XXXXFacadeEJBRemote");
but when i copy the same code to my web app servlet and deploy to tomcat7, it say NameNotFoundException when i call it.
javax.naming.NameNotFoundException: Name [global.EMSAPP.EMSDTOFacadeEJB.EmsDTOFacadeEJB!com.singtel.eshop.ems.ejb.stateless.EmsDTOFacadeEJBRemote] is not bound in this Context.
anyone know how can solve this issue?

Thanks Srinivas. I too suggested the same solution . But Basis  assured nothing pending from their end.
some missing PI customisation is suggested by them. But I didnt start anything yet. With these errors, I am finding difficulty in
mapping and configurations to be done in ID as well as IR. Thanks in advance for your co-operation.

  • Contact does not appear when texting

Although the contact does save and comes up when I call it or look it up in my contact book, it does not appear via text/imessage. Ive restored the phone and deleted and recreated the contact numerous times yet the problem persists.

I am expriencing the same issue with my iPhone 4S, were you able to resolve the problem?

  • Sending Texts from My Verizon - my Contacts do not appear

I want to use the "Messaging - Send Text" feature of the My Verizon website.  I can login, select "Messaging - Send Text" and the Send Text options display.  One of them is Contacts.  It displays 6 contacts; for some reason, only my immediate family members are displayed.  On my phone and in "Messaging - Contacts" I have at least 100 contacts.
How come my 100+ Contacts do not appear in the "Messaging - Send Text" area of My Verizon?  Thanks for any comments!

The contacts that you see displayed are the people you have sent messages to from  the My Verizon web site.  Your contacts do not automatically sync to the web site, you have to enter the contact information and then select save contact.   Since there are three different ways to send messages from the site, you are able to customize your contacts.  I have provided some additional information below for your review:
    Overview:
Send a text message to your friends, an easy and fast way to stay connected nationwide and internationally.
Three ways to send text messages:
Text to another mobile phone - using any 10 digit phone number that can receive a text message.
Text to a mobile phone from your PC using the "Send a Text" option from the menu at left.
Text to mobile phone from E-mail, send and receive text messages from any email address in the world by addressing the email to your 10 digit mobile number, [email protected], or your custom [email protected]
    Thank You
