Contact names not displaying in messages

On my N9 while in messages (sms) my contacts names are not showing up for some people randomly.  It just diplays the number, but it does show the correct contact picture and when i go into the message thread it does show the contact name there.  Anyone else experience this issue and know of a fix?  I've tried adjusting the way the phone number i stored in my phone but it does not appear to help.  I am on pr 1.1

I have the same. I see that new message come, I see only number. But after some time correct name is shown.
More probematic thing is that contact is not showing when someone calls me. I see that someone is calling, there is only number shown, I answer, (still no contact name) i talk few seconds and then i look at phone i see that contact is shown. Why it takes so long for my phone to recognize contact?
I don't need to say how annoying this is, I must recognize all my friends by voice.

    nokia 6121  no names will show when ringing or recieving texts so I dont know who they are from etc, very frustrating, how do I change it to show the contact name not number? I cant find any settings to help me? thanks

    Hi, In such case, try to check the things below:
    1> Make sure all contacts are stored in unique memory : sim or phone memory (recommend phone memory)
    2> Try to avoid 1 contacts has few numbers and other case, similar or same names for fews contacts
    3> Add your country code into the normal number format, eg: 0123455678 --> saved as +60 12345678 (+60 is the country code for MY)
    4> Check the settings under Contacts folder: Contacts > Settings > Contact view or Display contacts > try to change Last name/ First name view option one by one

  • Contact name not displaying for texts/messages, only phone number does

    When I turn on my iPhone 6 (iOS 8.0.2) in the morning (I shut it off at night), any received text messages (iMessages or standard texts) only show the phone number of the person who sent the text and the standard tone for texts is heard, when it should display the name and play the special text tone I setup on specific contact records.  It is not til after I use the Touch ID or enter my passcode that the name of the contact who sent the text displays AND the special text tone for that contact is heard.  This not normal behavior.  Even upon startup on my former iPhone (5), any texts received displayed the contact name and played the appropriate tone when the phone was turned on during the morning.  HELP!  I believe this is a bug; but, would like to have this confirmed.  If it's a setting or combination of settings that I'm missing in iOS 8.0.2, please let me know.
    My contacts have never been stored in iCloud nor do I plan to use iCloud.
    Thanks!

    Try this: when device is ON remove the battery, wait a minute and turn the battery back to the device.

  • One Contact Name Not Showing In Messages?

    Hiya, for as long as I can remember my girlfriends name has not shown up in my messages/recent calls etc - only her number. I've tried deleting the conversation and her contact and re-adding again - didn't work.
    Tried disabling iCloud Contacts sync while doing it, no luck.
    Also tried resetting my network settings and still no luck
    Any ideas? Thanks!
    iPhone 4, 5.1.1

    I've entered it exactly as I have done the other contacts in my phone, with her name in the right fields but where 'Joe Bloggs' would appear in messages or missed calls list, her number does. I've tried it with both '0' and '+44' (im in England). The contact shows up fine in my address book. I've just tried changing her name to 'Joe Bloggs' and it's still not displaying it in messages.
    However I've just added a '1' to the end of her number, sent a message to it and it's displayed her name! So it's something to do with the phone not liking her number...
    It's very, very confusing!

  • CONTACT NAMES NOT DISPLAYING & TIME FORMAT CHANGING AFTER SYNC

    i live in kuwait and i was just gifted an officially unlocked 3g iphone from new zealand. i upgraded to 2.1. i have 2 problems
    1. i have synced my contacts from address book. the format that it is stored in is +965XXXXXX. 965 is the country code for kuwait and all numbers in kuwait are of 7 digits. there is no area code as this is a small country. when someone calls me their name does not appear. only the number appears
    2. i have set the time format on the iphone to the 24 hour format but every time i sync with my macbook the time format changes to 12 hour format.

    Follow this procedure to get your contacts back (I assume they are on your Mac/PC):
    1. Go to Settings, then Mail, Contacts, Calendars
    2. Select your account which has the contacts you wish to sync
    3. Turn syncing for Contacts to "Off". This will bring up a box telling you your iPhone is turning off Contacts. My iPhone actually hung at this stage, so after several minutes, I performed a hard restart (holding down Home and power buttons for 5 sec.)
    4. Exit from Settings
    5. Go to Settings, then Mail, Contacts, Calendars
    6. Select your account which has the contacts you wish to sync
    7. Turn syncing for Contacts to "On". This should restore your contacts
    8. Go to Contacts to verify. They initially may not appear or just show up as numbers for a second or two, but then your contacts should appear.

  • Contact Names not appearing in messages?

    Hi all,
    After a recent visit abroad (which my phone/network wouldnt work!) I have returned home to find whenever someone texts me, in the menu it will show their number (ie +4407.....) rather than their name.
    A visit to my network shop didnt help. So i tried saving each text number into each individual contact and that dosent work either!!
    Any ideas much appreciated.
    Thanks

    hi,
    I have seen three threads on this and today saw a link to a fourth that was in fact marked as solved.
    In the fourth it suggested deleting com.apple.imessages.bag.plist  (responsible for the Server contact) and com.apple.imservice.iMessages.plist (Holds your Apple ID and Alias).
    My Contacts  are in the format of +44(0)telephonenumber
    I have no issues calling people on the iPhone.

  • Nokia N97: Contact name not displayed when they ca...

    Anyone know how to fix this problem.

    This problem is ALWAYS caused by multiple entries, as Fender says, you have the same number with several names so phone doesn't know who is calling and just shows number, or you also need to check memory in use in contacts, if you are using more than one source ie phone memory and sim, you will also get conflict. Check your contacts and set phone contacts in use to only one source ! Just phone memory or just sim. There are many posts on this subject, just use user search, it's always the same solution
    Good Luck

  • Mail not displaying certain messages

    Mail is suddenly not displaying certain messages in mailboxes. I can see and select the message in the center pane, but when I click on it to display, I get the "Loading" text and the spinner. This continues without resolution, though sometimes the messages will display after quitting Mail and/or rebuilding the Mailbox.
    It is not random messages that do this, but always the same ones that refuse to display. But they will display sometimes after a rebuild, so I know they aren't gone.
    Some have image attachtments, others do not.
    This just started this morning, following running Disk Utility to repair some HD corruption last night. Prior to that, Mail (and Safari) had been running very slowly for about three weeks.
    I have already repaired permissions on this drive.

    Acutab,
    I had the same problem. I took your advice and rebuilt the mailbox-voila. The problem was solved. I have also noticed Safari running slow. I will try and run Disk Utility

    Hi there kushfromgbr,
    You may find the information in the article below helpful.

    OS X Mavericks
    OS X Mavericks v10.9 and later do not use SyncServices. Instead, Mavericks supports sharing your information using several network-based and cloud-based solutions. If you want to sync your information across multiple devices and computers, you should use one or more of these methods. These include iCloud, CardDAV servers, CalDAV servers, and servers that utilize the Exchange ActiveSync protocol.

  • ADF FACES: af:messages/ does not display my messages at all

    I am having an issue displaying messages using ADF MyFaces EA20.
    <af:messages />
    Within all backing beans I call messages with the following method to conveniently display messages when needed.
    // Add invalid email address message
    JSFUtils.addMsgToContext(FacesMessage.SEVERITY_ERROR, "setEmail_error", MsgConstants.INVALID_EMAIL);
    The method utilized can be seen below:
    public static void addMsgToContext(FacesMessage.Severity severity, String msgKey, String descKey) {
        // Check the parameter, if either short desc or desc both are empty
        if (StringUtils.isEmpty(descKey)) {
            logger.error("Message description are empty. Do NOTHING just return");
            return;
        try {
            logger.debug("Add Message to Context");
            FacesContext context = FacesContext.getCurrentInstance();
            Application application = context.getApplication();
            // Add the message to the context
            context.addMessage(msgKey, getMessageFromBundle(descKey, severity));
        } catch (RuntimeException e) {
            * Supress RuntimeException.
            logger.error("Error occured when add message to context", e);
    With the first login page when validating username and password, the messages I send to the context display correctly, for example, “incorrect password please try again” and this uses exactly the same code as above in the backing bean.
    However once a session has started the messages simply do not get displayed and are not included in the HTML the <af:messages /> is replaced with nothing.
    No runtime exception is thrown.
    If anyone has any idea of why the messages are not being displayed I would be very grateful to hear them.
    Finally if I may add that I used this method of displaying messages in a previous project and it was fine. This time the only difference is that I am using Hibernate.
    The closest answer I could find to a similar issue with Oracle Forums was:
    The messages have to be added before the Render Response phase. It's generally very unusual to add messages in a bean getter/setter. I'd restrict yourself to adding messages in event listeners and actions.
    I do put messages in my setter methods as this is where I perform validation, but I have tried moving them to the main method called by the action button and this still does not display my messages.

    Frank
    There is a standard way? Next time you can simply tell me to RTFM ;-) . I am working on a project and was assigned my particular section and was told that the messaging aspect and validation was not urgent, until now near the end of the project when it has become urgent. Rather then listen to my colleagues answer of "this is the way to do it" your answer suggested that we working in a non-standard way.
    Having looked at Oracle JDeveloper 10g (10.1.3) Documentation, Validation, Conversion, and the Application Lifecycle section I noticed:
    Render response:
    Either display new page based on invoked navigation rules, or displays same page with errors.
    I was providing a new navigation String to the same page under all conditions, which I guess gives a new context and so does not display the messages. Under error conditions I now return an empty navigation String and now it displays my messages.
    Thank you for your help with this and I promise to read the manual next time.
    Andrew
