Contact photos in lists

iPhone really needs contact photos in the contacts lists, sms app, and favorites. Android does a much better job with that and it changes the experience. iPhone has it in the mail app, but it sure would be nice to see it elsewhere.

Fortunately, there is the App Store and there several good contact apps that provide the additional "enhancements" youo might be looking for.
For instance ContactsTap I find to be very good and it lists the photos for you as well

I'm using Mail 5.3 and Address Book 6.1.3 on X 10.7.5. I want my contact photos to show up in the message list on Mail, but only some of them do, even though the message will link to the contact card in Address Book with the photo in it. I've even tried replacing a photo that doesn't show up with a photo that does show up for a different contact but no luck. I am syncing to one other Mac, an iPhone and an iPad via iCloud.

  • Contact photo not updating widget

    Hello...heres the short version:
I have a widget of a contact...and my contacts are sync'ing with Facebook...When my contact updates their photo on Facebook; my Contact App updates; but my widget does not.
    Heres the longer version:
Okay I know there are two ways to create a widget/contact.  For instance....lets say you have a Contact named John Smith...lets say you talk to him more than anyone so you want a Fast Shortcut....and John Smith has a full fledged Facebook Profile.  John Smith has his name, phone numbers, address, and more.  So you want a quick and easy way to get access to John Smith; right?
Theres two ways to create this shortcut on one of your homescreens....The first option I'm sure everyone will do is to hold down on part of your screen and choose 'add widget'...as you scroll thru you will come across a 'Contact' widget...its a 1x1 size...which is the size of any app on your homescreen...so you click it and drag it to a space on your homescreen.  Next it will bring up your full conact list...here you will scroll down and select John Smith.  John Smith now appears on your homescreen pages.  Click the "icon" and you have quick access to Name/Phone Numbers/Address/Facebook/and Maybe More
Now lets say John Smith updates his photo on Facebook, you know this cause you just launched Facebook an hour ago....so you go into your Contact List...and you're like "hmmm no updated photo"...so you go into your Settings>Accounts>Facebook>And you see the last time it sync'd with your phone...which was 1 day ago...you're thinking "okay no biggie theres a 'sync now' option"  Voila.....Your Contact App now reflects his updated photo....so you back out of your Contacts or you Click your Home Button and you see that..........yep....his photo didnt update.  So you remove the battery...you reboot device....,and no go.
Now you could just remove this shortcut and re add it but what if you were accustomed to previous cell phones that automatically updated the photo?  This is where I am landing...I'm here asking if the Galaxy S4 has this feature?
Ahhh dont forget theres another option to go by......
So remember I said the common way of adding the shortcut was going thru Widgets?  Well theres 1 more way of adding a contact to your home screen....and that is...going into your contacts...find the one you want...John Smith...Hold down on the screen til a menu appears and if you scroll to bottom (Galaxy S4) theres an option that says "Add shortcut to Home Screen".  And voila...theres John Smith on your homescreen...His photo is the Icon/App that again you have easy/quick access to all the numbers he published...his Map (Address) and a quick link to Facebook + others if he has it....
But again when John Smith updates his Facebook Profile pic....and you know cause you just exited it...You re sync' under Settings and again while it reflected on your Contact App...it still didnt affect your Shortcut!
So my previous Cell phone was a Motorola Droid Razr (1st Edition)....my droid razr did have that feature...when someone changed their profile pic it would reflect the widget too.
The Galaxy S4 (for me) doesnt do that....my Contact Photo still changes when I manually perform a Sync and it shows up in the Contact App, but it doenst reflect the Widget....is this natural for Samsung?  Or is my Device not working correctly?
    Thanks

    Heres an update:
Okay whether you use the Widget to add a contact to your homescreen
Or you go into contacts; find your contact and hold down to select menu that says "add shortcut"
Either way....if they have a photo it will product a photo icon on your homescreen.
Everyone knows this....however what I did find out is that when a person has a Facebook linked with that contact and they update a photo; when you click that Shortcut their updated photo will appear in that small window of theirs...however it wont update your shortcut you created....does that make sense?
As to why? I dont know

  • How do you make a contact photo bigger?

When I select a person in my contact list, it shows a little picture, name, phone number, etc. The pictures are too small for me to see. How do I make the pictures bigger? I tried tapping on the picture, doing the two-finger motion to zoom in, etc.

There is no way to change the size of the contact photo. If the person calls you will see a full screen image of them.

  • Nokia 6300, iSync, and Contact Photos-

Thanks to the following links, I was able to get my new Nokia 6300 to successfully sync with my Mac’s Address Book via iSync:
    http://klauskjeldsen.dk/2007/06/08/free-nokia-6300-isync-plugin/
    http://nokia6300.net/8/new-version-of-the-nokia-6300-isync-plugin
    http://brent.kearneys.ca/technology/2007/how-to-sync-a-nokia-6300-on-osx/
    http://kaspers.freeflux.net/blog/archive/2007/04/13/how-to-isync-a-nokia-6300.html
Unfortunately, two things didn’t sync up: Birthdays and Contact Photos. After politely asking people if there was any way to get these to work (especially photos, as it’s nice to see someone’s picture pop up on the phone for faster recognition before you unceremoniously reject them) I tried to tackle this one on my own. I was able to dig around in the plist files of the Nokia N93 and glean the few lines that make both of these details available to the Nokia 6300 plugin.
Before we begin however, I’ve noticed some problems that can occur with Photo syncing. PLEASE READ THIS THOROUGHLY before continuing: it’ll save some head-banging and frustration later.
Failing to follow the following guidelines will result in a completely failed sync. Should this happen, I simply deleted all of my contacts on the phone (phone memory, not SIM card), tried to determine the problem, and tried again.
Also, note that if you do end up deleting all of the contacts on your phone, you’ll also lose your 1-touch dialing and the entries in your caller groups (but not the groups themselves).
    Here we go:
Do not use .GIF files — JPG only! (I didn’t test PNG)
You cannot drag-and-drop from a web-page directly onto a contact. Although this works for Address Book in that you’ll see the ‘image edit’ window pop-open, and you can save your contact, when it comes to iSync your entire sync will fail. If you want to use someone’s image (from Facebook, for example) simply drag the photo you want from the web-page onto your desktop, and then drag the photo from your desktop onto the Address Book entry’s ‘contact photo’ area. You’re then free to delete the image from your desktop.
You cannot sync with a ’smart group’ that you created within Address Book. This has more to do with iSync than the new plugin, but it’s a pain nonetheless. Physical groups only!
When a sync fails, you are not told what failed, or why it failed. iSync detailed logs are useless too, stating only:
5:28:24 PM Error [Nokia 6300] An unexpected error occured.
5:28:24 PM Error Device "Nokia 6300" synchronization failed
Fun! What I did was create a ‘temp’ group, set iSync to sync with that folder only for contacts, and then slowly add contacts into that temp group until a failure occurred so that I knew what the offending entry was.
The plugin that I’ve created is essentially just the one from the site listed above, but with some additional properties put into the PhoneContuit.plist and SyncEngine.plist files.
As with everyone else, I take no responsibility if this completely fcks up your phone or Address Book, but please do backup both your Address Book (File -> Back Up Address Book…) and your phone’s contacts (I typically just copy everything to SIM). I can say that this has worked fine for me for a day now, with a fair bit of testing. After I cleaned up my offending image-entries, it’s been great.
To install: Quit iSync, download the following zip file, and drag-and-drop the plugin into your system using the shortcut, and sync away.

  • Yosemite hide contact photo in mail print

In the new mail app of Yosemite, you can hide your contact photos in the message list, but not in the actual message.
When I want to print out some emails from work, I don't want that the contact photo appears in the right corner. Even if there is no contact photo attached, it gives a grey circle with the persons initials. It just doesn't look professional on a printed email.
Is there a way around this?
    here's an example:

You should submit this feedback to Apple:

  • How do I get the contact photo to full screen size when receiving a call after iOs 7.1 update..?

how do Iget the contact photo to full screen size when receiving a call after iOs 7.1 update..?

I went to the link. I selected iPHONE.  There was a big iPhone icon above the comment box -- so I was absolutely, positively on the right page.  I spent five minutes or so crafting a constructive comment as to why I wanted the full photo feature back on incoming calls on iOS7.  Then...i noticed the box below the comment area asked 'What operating system are you on?'.  And the drop down selection list included every operating system since Job's garage days -- but not one single iOS entry.  No iOS entries on an iphone page.  Unless I'm missing something, I think anyone writing a feedback comment is wasting his/her time.

  • Contact Photo Size???

    So I have a new iPhone (8gb).
Using my Mac Pro to upload everything, contacts, iCal, etc.
So I made a new iPhone group in the address book.
Copied a photo from preview and pasted it in the contact photo box.
    Syncs fine.
On the iPhone the little pic is there under each contact.
But when that person calls, it is full screen, or even larger where I can only see the person's eye or nose. And a few times the screen has come distorted where I am unable to read anything. I read that when I make a contact on the mac, the photo is supposed to display only in the corner when they call. But this is not happening for me?
    Anyway to fix this?
Is there a max pic size for address book contacts?
    Thanks For You Help

The easiest way I've found to add photos to contacts was within the iPhone itself.
First, you'll have to load the photos you want onto your iPhone (make an album in iPhoto of the photos, regular size/unaltered).
Then, on the iPhone, go into your photos. Find a photo you'd like to add to a contact, then click on the little photo frame w/a large swooping arrow in the lower right corner of the photo.
You'll be prompted to use the photo as wallpaper, email it, or, the one you want, "Assign To Contact"
Select that option - you'll be presented w/your contacts list - choose the person you'd like to add a photo to. Then, and this is the key part, you can resize and crop/move the photo (basically, this is a preview of what the contact photo will look like when you get a call from that contact).
    Hope that helps.

  • Contact photo's show us too large?

Not a big deal but just wondering if anyone else is experiencing or have even noticed when some of your contacts call you their contact photo is too big for the screen? Like it was resized or something? I upgraded from 3G to IP4 so I'm sure that's the problem but is it a photo compatibility issue or something else?

Hello. I'm having the *exact same issue* since restoring up my iPhone 4 as a new phone.
When a call comes in or when calling someone on my contact list, the photo associated with the contact person is *skewed larger*. Too big for the screen.
Other than resizing every photo in your contact list, have you found a fix for this issue yet?
    Thanks.

  • Contact photos and CardDAV syncing?

I set up CardDAV syncing with Yahoo on my iPhone. It works well enough. I've also enabled syncing with Yahoo via iTunes because doing so stores things like contact photos and the like. The downside of this method is that I end up with 2 contacts on my iPhone (phone & CardDAV) for every contact. I can unify them on the phone, but I have to remember to do that when adding a contact.
I'd like to remove one of the iPhone stored contacts and use only the CardDAV contacts. Does anyone know if things like notes, contact photos and additional fields would be synced or backed up on my PC if I did this?

Could use some help in this matter as well.  I'm hoping that I can have my contact list photos match to the Facebook contact photo.  I've tried everything I can think of.  I go to my phone book list, pick a contact, try both the photo icon on the bottom and the "pac-man" looking link button along the top, then I get an add contact, and Facebook button pops up.  When I hit that it says to select contact (which all I have on the screen is a keyboard) so when I go to type in the contacts name, nothing happens.  Is there a way to do this?  I"ve tried reloading Facebook app from Market place (as was suggested in a forum) and still get nothing.  The only contact with a pic is mine?  Any help would be gretly appreciated!
    Thanks

  • Can you set contact photo from SDK?

Can you set contact photo from SDK?

Now that iOS 5 has come out, all iPad 2's come with iOS 5 pre-installed (unless you find old stock sitting at a retailer somewhere). iOS 5 has a built-in setup assistant for AirPort base stations (such as AirPort Express, AirPort Extreme, and Time Capsule). First you plug in your AirPort Express to power, and plug its Ethernet into your broadband (Cable or DSL or whatever) modem/router's LAN port. Then in iOS 5, you go to Settings > Wi-Fi, and your AirPort Express will show up in a separate list as a base station that has not been set up. Select it there, and iOS will look at your environment and guess how you want it set up. It usually guesses right. If it guesses right for your needs, you hit the button and it sets it up that way. If it guessed wrong, you hit "More Choices" and select an alternative setup method.
After you've done the initial setup that way, if you later decide you want to tweak the settings, you can download the free AirPort Utility for iOS 5, from the App Store.
Kappy made a small mistake when he said you can use the AirPort Utility app for iOS to set up the AirPort Express. You actually have to do the initial setup right form the AirPort Assistant built right into iOS 5 as I described above. The AirPort Utility app for iOS is where you make changes later, not where you do the initial setup. But yes, you can do all of this setup right from the iPad now, as of iOS 5. No Mac or PC required.

  • My Contact Photos are Messed Up

    Hi.
My contacts photo are messed up. My brother's photo is placed in my wife's contact info, while my wife's is at my friend, etc. I am using iPad 2 and iOS 5.1.1 This happens often, so that I removed all photos. Can anyone help?

If you go to your user profile you'll find a list of your topics. Here's the other thread:
Where'd you find that? I went to profile and it only went back one month. Thanks again for your help.
Going to do an re-install tomorrow. Where are all the ID pref folders so I delete everything before the reinstall. 2nd install in less than a month. Very odd. Once with the old HD and now with a new HD.

  • Contact Photos in Messaging

Apple needs to add the ability to see contact photos in messaging, email and notifications.  This is smartphone 101. I switched from android & still can't believe this isn't a standard feature. Why does Apple even allow for photos if it doesn't use it for anything but caller ID?

I'm having a similar problem. For one contact, the facebook photo suddenly disappeared. All I have is a white square in my contacts list and messaging, and a black screen when they call me. I haven't changed anything for this contact, and their facebook photo is still the same as it was before it stopped appearing. All my other contacts are fine.
I have restarted the phone numerous times, but it hasn't helped.

  • Missing Contact Photos

    Hi.
Just got iPhone 3GS, having moved from WinMo, and I'm sadly disappointed on a number of issues.
At the moment the one that's really stumping me is this one, and I've tested it four different times, and four different times it's done the same thing, but seemingly at random.
I have some photos in the iPhone which I took of people who are in my contact book.
I sync the iPhone with Exchange (or rather, KerioMailServer) which in turn syncs also with Outlook on my PC.
I can use the iPhone Photo App to create thumbnails for contact photos, and assign them to my contacts. The photos will display for a while. They'll even apparently sync with Kerio, because the photos are now also attatched to my contact records in Outlook too, having been transferred ONLY by the Exchange Sync.
But then, for no apparent reason, without any visible trigger, the contact photos will disappear from the iPhone.
The master photos are still on the phone, as are the contacts, and the contacts are still on Outlook which is still syncing to Kerio.
But on the iPhone, the photos are gone, and I have to reassign them/recrop them to get them to attatch, at which point a second (then third, then fourth) contact photo syncs with Kerio, and then turns up on Outlook, and then at random the iPhone drops the photos again, and never seems to reacquire them from the Kerio server.
    Any ideas?

The problem has not been remedied, it seems, in 3.1.2...
The weird thing is that when I took the contact photos and applied them to contacts in my iPhone contacts list, they stuck around for a short while...
Certainly long enough to transfer elsewhere.
    Then disappeared totally randomly.
Even more bizarre is the fact that the contact list did not originate with the iPhone. it is not a manually compiled list. It came off of KerioMailServer (Exchange Protocols) having been the same contact list I've used for the last 2 years during my WinMo days. This contact list, like my diary, is also accessible over webmail, and from my desktop PC (Windows 7) via Outlook 2008.
I never put contact pics directly on to the Windows PC, or the Win2k3 Server running Kerio. Only on the iPhone.
And having done that, and run a sync with the Kerio server, the iPhone transferred the contact pics not only to the server, but then thanks to a sync on the desktop machine, also to the desktop Outlook installation, which of course gets all its information from the Kerio server.
So the iPhone has not only been the source of the images, but has in fact propagated them to the server level. And then, at random, just suddenly 'lost' them and seems unable to 'restore' them from the server...
    I also noticed something else...
I'm fairly annoyed that the iPhone calendar app can't handle Exchange appointment categories.
I've also found out that while the iPhone can create an appointment and propagate it to the server, and then in turn the desktop PC can pull it into the calendar... the iPhone does not make authoritative changes to appointments, and seems incapable of deleting them too. They will appear changed on the iPhone, even deleted, but then a sync with the server just restores them right back again.
Anyone have a fix for this or a tip for something I'm missing?
