Contact Picture Durring a call

Its not that important, im just curious
I remember in the commercials for iphone, when they made a call, the person's picture was small and in the upper right hand corner with the wallpaper still there taking up most of the screen.
Usually when i make a call, the picture takes up the whole screen. Cept i just called a friend of mine and it did the small picture thang. anyone know why it would change back and forth?
thanks

It depends how the photo get assigned to the contact.
If you take a photo on the iPhone and assign it to a contact you get the full screen version as it uses the photo from the iPhone photo library. This is also true for any contacts that use an existing photo from the iPhones photo library that you have transferred via iTunes.
If you assign a photo to a contact on your computer and then sync the contact over to the iPhone then only a small version of the photo is attached to the contact details. Hence you only see the small photo when they call.
If you want big photos then assign photos to contacts on the iPhone.
If you want small photos then assign photos to your contacts on your computer and sync to the iPhone.

  • Contact picture for incoming call

Why does the contact picture not show up when an incoming call is coming through?

It does for me, and everyone I know.  Whithout any specific information from you, not even the phone model or iOS version, it's not possible to answer or help.

  • Contact picture for incoming calls!!!  Please help!!

After I updated my iPhone to 7.1, my incoming calls now show the contact picture in a dinky little circle in the corner of the screen!  What happened to it being the size of the whole screen!?!?  Can I change that back!?!?

Another horribly poor decision in Apple's ever-growing list of poor decisions.

  • Contact picture in a call.

My girlfriend just solved a problem that has plagued me for a while. The problem was that whenever someone would call me, their contact photo would appear as a thumbnail in the top right hand corner instead of full screen. I had been assigning photos to contacts via the photo application, which is a normal thing to do. If, however, I go into the "Contacts" application and then choose to "Edit" their photo that way, then whenever they call their photo will appear full sized. I had talked to an Apple rep about this the other day and he was no help. If an Apple representative reads this then please take note for future users with this problem.

Ok I have FOUND the solution! I called apple regarding this issue and they were no help. I tried a few things and found the problem and solution.
If you are adding a picture to a contact on the device itself and NOT using Exchange you should have no problem to begin with. However, like many people, if you are using Exchange then the pictures will get automatically resized into the small thumbnails in the upper right corner when people call you.
The solution is to go into settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > Exchange > and turn off the Contacts toggle. You will get a message that says all contacts will be deleted, select "delete from my iphone. Now when you go into your contacts list it should be empty. Now what you need to do is manually add in contacts for which you want a full screen picture id for when they call. Try to spell their name the same way its found in the exchange service. Once you add all the people and pictures for the people, go back into settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > Exchange > and toggle the contacts back on. When you do this you will get a message that asks you if you want to delete the contacts from the iphone or leave them. Click on "leave contacts or something similiar" Now what happens is that your contacts will be merged with exchange and the contacts that you just manually added from the iphone itself. This is why i said to try to name the contacts exactly the same so they are automatically merged into one contact instead of seeing two duplicates for the same person.
The way you can verify that you have done this properly is to go into contacts and pull up a person that you added the contact manuelly and wanted the full screen picture id for and scroll down to the bottom and you should see the title named "linked cards" and under it is should say iphone "name of person" and under that exchange "name of person" if the names are spelled exactly the same then you should be good to go."
If anyone finds an easier solution let me know and if you have issues leave a message and i will try to clarify the instructions because i know this method works because i have tested it.

  • Contact Picture Size During Call (iOS5 + iCloud)

Since the upgrade to iOS 5 during a call my contact images are displayed full screen rather than a small image in the call bar with the other call information such as name and duration. Does anyone know how to get the images to show in the small box during a call, as shown on Apple's website, again?
I have tried a couple of things I have read on various forums but nothing seems to work.
    Any help greatly appreciated, thanks.

    Hey Guys
I think I worked it out.
If you add a high res image to a contact in Address Book, it will display full screen on the iPhone.
If this happens to me, I load the photo I like into Photoshop then save it in lower res & smaller px width & height
    Seems to fix it.
EDIT - the image needs to be 200px X 200px to be displayed small on the iPhone.

  • Full screen contact picture lost iPhone 6 plus

upgraded my iphone 5 to ios8 and i was so pleased to see the return of fullscreen contact pictures for incoming calls. After getting an iphone 6+ today I am disappointed to see this return to the small round picture at the top of the screen. Am I missing a setting somewhere?

Hello everyone. No one is missing a setting or need to do a bodoo ritual to get a full sized photo on incoming call in an iphone. The answer is simple since the phone in his original position has an aspect radio of 9:16 to the phone display a picture in full screen at the incoming call the picture needs to be in the same aspect ratio so there is no blank spaces anywhere and the software proceed to display the contact picture.  Also the picture has to stay in your library.
The procedure to do this in iOS 8:
1- Go to Photos>Camera Roll> Select the picture you wanna set as contact.
2- Touch "Edit" in the right superior corner.
3- Inside Edit mode touch the tool to resize.
4- Set the grid to a position taller than wide.
5- Touch the scale icon in the lower right corner of the screen. Is the one above the "Done" button.
6- Select the last option that reads: "9:16" that is related to the aspect ratio for the selected area.
7- Adjust your image zooming or moving until it reach the desired one.
    8- Hit done.
9- Now in Camera Roll set the image to the contact desired. It's done.
    Enjoy.

  • Nokia E52 display caller's name and contact pictur...

Can someone advise me on possible problem with my E52 - I am very pleased with most aspects of the phone but it is not showing the name of the caller or the contact picture when I receive a call (just the number).
Surely it is standard for every Nokia phone to show name of caller? I know S Ericsson phones show name and picture for both call and text. Nokias should at lease display the name?
Can anyone please advise on this?
    Thanks

  • Contact pictures when receiving phone calls

I have some contacts which have pictures directly taken with my iPhone and naturally they display full screen when receiving a call. Other contacts however have imported pictures which display as thumbnails when I receive a call.
Is there a way to either have them all display as thumbnails (other than using pictures not takes with the iPhone)?
Thanks for any input on this.

Contact pictures assigned on your computer & then synced to your phone will appear as thumbnails, while contact pictures assigned directly on your phone will appear full size.
This was in 3.1.3, but it should be similar in 4.0, although I haven't had a chance to test it yet.
Thanks, yes, that is still the case.
What I am trying to accomplish is, that ALL pictures show up as thumbnail. So, with all your replies it seems like the only way to do this would be to save the picture on the PC and then re-sync them.

The others in my contact list still come as TINY. Is there a place where i can make them all full size?

It's not clear why Apple made this change; speculation (which is not really allowed in these forums) is that it was done to protect the privacy of the caller.

  • Contact Pictures not displaying in texts...

At some point yesterday my contact pictures has stopped showing up in text messages. They still appear when calls are placed and in the actual contact information, but no longer are in texts. I have restarted my phone and also shut it off for over an hour to try to get them to reload. Any suggestions on how to fix this or why this may have happend. They were there yesterday morning then just stopped showing up...

Thank you for your reply. These were contact pictures that I had specifically gone in and set for contacts (I.E. for my brother there is a picture of my nephew as his contact picture). I had to delete the pictures from the contacts and then just re-assign them, seems to be working perfectly fine now. I'm sure it was just some sort of glitch.

  • Contact Picture sync behavior

Problem: I add a new contact picture on the iPhone, later sync: the pic loses its resolution and becomes a low-res 'Address Book' picture that appears in the top-right corner when someone calls.
I know the topic of contact pic has been hashed out lots already, but I haven't found this answer yet. How do I get my iPhone contact pictures to stay on my iPhone contacts in full resolution after syncing to MacBook Address Book?
What happens: take a new picture with the iPhone by going to the contact / Edit / add photo / Take Photo, or add a picture by going to the contact / Edit / add photo / Choose Existing Photo -- the contact picture will be a full-screen full-res contact photo; the person will call and their picture will be the full background on the phone call display. Then I sync a couple times with my MacBook with 'Sync Address Book contacts' checked: the full-res photo will be lost, replaced by a low-res version that only appears in the top-right when the person calls.
It's like the first sync Address Book receives the photo from the iPhone, the 2nd sync the iPhoto replaces the high-res photo with the low-res one that Address Book is using. When it happens with a new photo it appears there is no way to recover the higher-res photo (very sad sometimes). It doesn't happen 100% of the time - perhaps there's a variable I'm not seeing.
Others have said that you only get the low-res, top-right picture if you assign the photo to the contact in Address Book on the computer, but I'm also getting it when I simply sync to the computer. I've never added contact pictures using Address Book.
My wish: Address Book would accept the higher-res version photo. Fallback wish: Address Book uses a low-res version, iPhone keeps it's higher-res version. At the very least, let me choose which device takes precedent in sync!
Is there a workaround? A way to recover the higher-res version? A way to make the higher-res picture stick? Mostly I want to know: is anyone else having this problem?
Thanks for any info in advance.

It seems that with each upgrade the feature that allow you to assign a photo to a contact keeps changing the way it works. When I select a photo and used the cropping tools, the results are not even close to what you selected on screen with the crop and zoom functions.
How do we get this bug fixed!
    Thanks!

  • IPhone Contact Pictures Fully Explained

    Hello Guys,
Just wanted to explain fully how the iPhone contact pictures work and why some are large and some are small etc.
In the very beginning if you added a picture to a contact on the IPHONE when you made a call it would show up as a LARGE image. If you added the picture via the Mac contacts app, when you called it would be a small image in the top right corner.
Then what happened if you added a HD/large in data size image to a contact in the mac app, it would show in your iPhone (during a call) as a large image. This was because there was enough picture data to show the larger size.
Now we come to Yosemite and iOS8........
In iOS8 if you now view a contact on the iPhone and actually finger tap the contact picture it actually opens up the full image in the screen. This didn't happen before.
Before if you tapped the picture nothing would happen.......now you can view the image and save it to the camera roll if you wish........
Now.....in Yosemite if you add a picture on the Mac this is where is gets interesting....... It doesn't matter on the actually data size of the image. It could be 40kb or 4mb. What makes the difference between large and small when calling is the HEIGHT of the image.
If you resize ANY image to 960px, when calling it will show the image as blurry LARGE!!
If you make the image 959px or less in height it will show the image as small top right.
So you have have a 5mb image thats 959px high and it will show as a small image when calling.......
I hope that clears everything up for you guys!

    ckent007,
What version of the iPhone software are you using?
Are you saving the contact pictures (by tapping done in the edit contact screen) before you go to the home screen and use another application?
    Hope this helps,
    Jennifer B.
