Contact Sheet Printing Problems

I have been trying to print contact sheets starting with version 1.1 and I'm still not able to print them in 2.1.
Ligthroom will generate the file but the printers (I tried 3 printers) are reporting error messages (Status Error - Printing). The file just stay in the queue for ever or I delete it. First I thought it had to be a printer problem so I tried to print the contact sheets in Draft Mode. That worked and everything was fine except the quality of the pictures on the contact sheet was so bad - unusable.
Now I have tried different relosutions from 150 to 250 and nothing works. Well, not quite nothing. I can print out one contact sheet with up to 20 pictures, but as soon as I need more than one sheet it fails.
I'm also running into the same problem with color shifts printing from Lightroom compared to Photoshop. Also, the speed seems to be very slow. I have about 30,000 slides in my library and I'm constantly waiting until LR catches up.

I was experiencing the same thing (in 4.1RC2). Tried to print a 158-image contact sheet (4 pgs), and it would want to render every image first.
Here's my solution:
I went back to the Library module, selected all the photos I wanted to print, and made sure they all had standard previews rendered. Then I was able to go back and print as draft (to printer, pdf, and jpg) with lightning speed.
Hope that helps,
Cory
**UPDATE**
Today I tried to print another contact sheet, with all previews rendered, and it's being slow again. Apparently my solution doesn't really work 100%. Yeah, it's like Jeckyll and Hyde...

  • Contact Sheet Printing

Why are my contact sheet printing darker than my normal print files? I am in CS4 on am Mac OS X.
    Any and all Help appreciated.

What are your Edit > Color Settings?
What are the color spaces of the images themselves and of the contact sheet files?
Do you use the same print settings for the individual files and the contact sheets?

  • I cannot find images for contact sheet printing.

I have been printing hundreds of contact sheets and from time to time when I add pictures for contact sheet, I am unable to find the images I want even though they are open and in the project bin and in the same folder.  I may find two but not the other two and so on.  They all are the same size.  Thanks.

You need to go into more detail about your problem. Perhaps you can provide screenshots of your dilemma with the software and provide more information that may help people answer your question. If not, you can always try reading the manual.

  • Lightroom 4 contact sheet print crashes with over 12 images - Please help.

Lightroom 4 consistently crashes every time I attempt to print a contact sheet containing over 12 images. Any less and the task is completed without error, any more and it inevitably crashes. Any thoughts?
My workaround has been to export the images and create large contact sheets in Photoshop CS6, but this takes twice as long.
This is a daily task and is significantly disrupting my workflow. Please help.
    Regards,
    Eliot

So, I had this problem tonight after experiencing no problems with Lightroom 4 previously. I noticed that in the print dialog box, where you can select to print "all" the pages or a page range, the page range radial was highlighted and the defined page range was "7" to "7". I was only printing one image so I changed the print range to "1" to "1". And it did the trick. Crazy, eh?

  • Customize Contact Sheet - Print Mode

Is there a way to customize a print contact sheet with more than the three items (page number, print info, and crop marks)? Specifically, I want to add a "Title" at the top/center of the page (e.g., *** -vs- *** High School Baseball, 02/27/2007).
I customized the other areas (ID template, rows and columns, margins, fonts, file information, etc.) without any problems. The printed results look good, but the page(s) need a title in case they get dropped or mixed up with other contact sheets.
Dose anyone know if you can copy the Contact Sheet II template from Photoshop CS (or CS2) into the Lightroom "Print Template" folder and use it?
If this has already been addressed, please excuse, but I could not find anything searching the forum.
    Thanks for help and recommendations.
    Bruce K

    Bruce, a workaround.
You could use an ID plate that is wider than normal, and include the title (in the PNG image) where you want it to be.
I don't believe that the CS template will run in LR.

  • Contact Sheets Printing Perfectly Again

Hello Everyone--Under 1.5.1 I encountered the problem of stretched and distorted photos when printing contact sheets. Just wanted to let those who had the same problem know that 1.5.2 fixed the bug for me (in case they've haven't yet downloaded the update).
Many thanks to Joe and the team!

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Can you post a screenshot of the contact sheet showing the gray borders? That would help us envision the problem a little better. But, as a first cut, delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your User/Library/Preferences folder.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Contact Sheets & Printing Issue

    Allo.
We recently upgraded to iLife '08 and are having problems printing contact sheets through iPhoto. iPhoto seems to be printing a gray box behind the photos {we're printing ~8x10.5 on 8.5x11 paper and it is set to a white background within iPhoto}. We also liked that we could print 16 images per page, although now it seems that you can only adjust the number of columns, not the number of rows. Is there a way around this? The photos also seem to be overly contrasted - is this an iPhoto setting? We have downloaded all the iLife updates as of right now. The file also exports quickly to our RIP {ColorBurst 4.1} but is extremely slow to print. Any suggestions? Thanks.

  • Contact sheet printing limited to 3 columns

I have been trying to print a contact sheet with 5 columns but only the photo titles are printed/shown in preview: no photos. Cutting down the number of columns to 3 seems to work: photos are shown in the preview. The printer is a Lexmark C510 colour laser with an up-to-date driver installed.
How can I achieve 5 columns? Trying to save ink and paper here!
    Any suggestions are most welcome.

Delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your User/Library/Preferences folder and try again. You should be able to get up 10 columns on A4 paper size.

  • LR 3 Contact Sheet Caption Problem

I am using LR 3.0 on a Win XP machine.  I want to print a multiple line caption below each picture on a multi-row, multi-column contact sheet using the single image contact sheet layout style.  I have set up a preset in the photo info panel with the information I want and how I want it to appear below each image on the contact sheet.
My problem is after I have everything set as I want and see in the first page when I select another set of images or another page the preview will only show the first line of the multi-line caption.  I have to make some change to any one item in the layout panel such as change a margin or cell spacing or change to another layout and back in the photo info panel for all lines of the caption to appear. If this is not done, the actual print will only show one line of the caption.  The multi-line caption worked fine in LR 2.
I have searched forums, blogs, etc for help and have not found an answer to my problem.  Has anyone experience this problem and found a solution?

    Hi there
Seems like it is a bug - if so you can report it to Apple by choosing Provide Aperture Trial Feedback from the Aperture menu within the program.
Printing seems to be the main thing from prevent AP3 from being useful to me currently, inability to make presets 'stick', border printing around an image even when no border is selected. There's probably more problems in printing but I'm kind of disheartened to use it to find any more, it's cost me a lot of wasted time already.
    Take care

  • Contact sheet print job aborted in snow leopard

Recently upgraded to snow leopard. When printing a large contact sheet of over 50 raw files the print job is aborted. Printing to a HP Z3100. Nailed it down to amount of data 50 pics at 20mb each seems to be limit. No problem under Leopard. I can convert the files to Jpg and print 80 of them, file size is 1/3. Anyone run into this issue?

Hmm.. Can't say as I've seen that, and I've printed more than 120 photos 12+meg at a time (including some 80meg tif files).  Don't know what it might be... how's your scratch space, or the space on your main disk?
    Cheers!

  • Iphoto 08 contact sheet printing

recently my iphoto 08 yields an error when selecting the contact sheet format of printing - it prints a print screen page instead of the selected photos as a contact sheet - the print preview locks as well when trying to preview the contact sheet - any suggestions?

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. First delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your User/Library/Preferences folder, launch iPhoto and try again.
If that doesn't help log into another user account on your Mac and try a contact sheet from there. If you get the same results it's a system wide issue and a reinstall of iPhoto may be required. If iPhoto prints OK there then the culprit is somewhere in your primary user account. Post back with the results.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier versions) database file and keep it current.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. There are versions that are compatible with iPhoto 5, 6, 7 and 8 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
NOTE: The new rebuild option in iPhoto 09 (v. 8.0.2), Rebuild the iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup" makes this tip obsolete.

  • HELP! Different colors in Single print vs Contact Sheet print

Aperture 1.5.1, G5, 10.4.8, Apple 30" display, Kodak 1400 Dye Sub printer, Canon 350D, shooting RAW.
I have a few pictures and I want to print them. They are baby pictures so picture a little baby in standard issue baby yellow tee shirt and wrapped in baby yellow blanket.
I select four pix and go to print images. In Single Images I set it up as Kodak 1400, Color sync profile Kodak 1400 Glossy, no color correction and changes in printer settings. I then do a preview and the images are prepared and displayed in Preview and they look fine.
With the same four images, in Contact Sheet I set it up as Kodak 1400, Color sync profile Kodak 1400 Glossy, no color correction and changes in printer settings. I then do a preview and the images are prepared and displayed in Preview and they look like ****. Baby's yellow cloths are blown out to almost white. The off white wall behind mother and baby is blue.
I've tried several setups and tweaks and I always get the same result. One print on a page looks great, contact sheets look like ****. It's like the contact sheet setup is using completely different color settings than the single sheet setup.
Unfortunately you can't morph a working single sheet into a contact sheet. They have to start from different places (create new single vs create new contact)
HAs this already been discussed and fixed? hopefully?

  • Contact sheet printing speed

Printing contact sheets with iPhoto takes quite a long time on my system. Will increasing the ram memory from 512mb to 1.5gb increase the printing speed or is it strictly related to the speed of the printer?

    shelkirsch:
It depends on what you mean by a long time. I just started a contact sheet of 85 pictures, 6 across for 60 on the 1st page and 25 on the second, and it's took 1:26 to process the first page and 30 seconds for the 2nd page before sending to the printer. So if you're is around that time more memory may not help. I have 1.5G memory and a dual 1-G machine. I'm sure it's dependent on both the cpu speed and memory. Additional memory will help but improve it a little but it may be more cpu dependent. Just don't know. Generally you can't have too much memory.

  • Contact sheet prints @ 1/4 or 25% the actual size on Epson R800

When printing a contact sheet from a recent upload of photo's to iPhoto, my Epson R800 is shrinking the page to 25% (1/4) size and there is nothing in the other 75% (3/4) of the page. I set it up to print on a 8.5 x 11 page, so can anyone be of help in figuring out why it is not priting a full page?
Thanks in advance to anyone who can help & Merry Christmas to all...

    Marc:
You're in the iPhoto 6 forum but I'll try to answer your question. You can't in iPhoto but there are a couple of workarounds.
One is to create a book with the Yearbook theme. Then put your pictures in one of the pages that have the number of photos per page that you want, up. up to 32 per page. It will automatically enter the file name under each picture. Do a Print to PDF of the book, open it with Preview and print just the page(s) you want. The downside to this method is that you only get landscape orientation for the page.
The other way is to use Galerie to create a web gallery of the pictures. It will let you include the file name under the pictures. You can set the number of photos per row and rows per page. Then open the gallery (just the index page) in Safari and print from there.
    Do you Twango?

  • Contact sheet printing from iphoto6

How can i make 7 across a contact sheet use the whole width of paper? Alternatively, can i get titles to print on contact sheet in iphoto5? I can get titles and minute images in iphoto6 and 7 across the sheet with no titles in iphoto5.

What are your Edit > Color Settings?
What are the color spaces of the images themselves and of the contact sheet files?
Do you use the same print settings for the individual files and the contact sheets?
