Contact shows up in messages without a text?

A contact will show up in my messages but there is no actual text message that comes with it. It looks like a blank conversation. There are no text bubbles or anything. Can someone explain to me why this happens please? Thanks!

I am having the exact same problem, though now I have an iPhone 4S on iOS5.  I purchased the so-called "text tone" before the Tone Store existed when i had my iPhone 3G.  For some reason, it only shows up under Ringer and not Text.  However, I have other downloaded ringtones that show up under both. What's the deal? I just don't want to be out $1.29 for something stupid on Apple's end.

  • BPM Alert shows in Inbox but without custom text

We have a BPM which raises an alert and passes a message to a fixed receipent Inbox. In our Dev environment this works great. We replicated this functinoality in our QA environment and now the user gets an alert in their Inbox but instead of the custom message they just receive the alert category description. We have scene this problem in the past when we forgot to check dynamic text on the alert category but we checked this so it must be something else.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Cheers

    Hi Puloma,
If I run RSALERTTEST with no additional confirguration it creates an alert in my inbox with the alert category description as the alert message. If I run RSALERTTEST and use the additional configuration menu to add in a description it uses that description as the alert message short text. It appears to be working as expected. The problem seems to be that although my BPM works perfect in Dev, in our QA environment it is not feeding the alert description correctly to the alert message. This is just a guess I am not sure if there is a way for me to monitor what alert description my bpm created.

I have this identical problem.  For a while my group texts didnt show up on my ipad.  Then one day they did, maybe everyone in the group started using the same os version or something.  Ever since my first reply to the group there have been complaints of multiple threads.  I can not find a pattern for when my group text's decide they want to create a new thread. (it doesnt happen every time)  Everyone in the group has deleted the thread, we've all toggled imessage on/off etc.  There still hasn't been a solution.
    Any help would be appreciated.

  • Deleted Contacts show up when trying to send a Text Message.

I have deleted contacts that still show when I try to send text messages out.Their name still appears even when they are deleted in my contacts. I've tried countless methods but nothing works. It won't go away. It's a huge problem for me and a lot of other people that I've talked to. Does anyone know how to fix this?

That is a last resort for me. I've done it before but I don't want to do it again. Why can't apple just make this problem disappear?

  • Is there a way to still get audible alerts of new messages without having any banners or text appear in the lock screen?

I'm trying to make sure I am doing this correctly.  How do you set up alerts for both text messages and iMessages so that even when the phone is locked you will still get an audible or vibration alert as soon as the message is received?  And is there a way to do this without having any text appear on the lock screen that shows who the message is from.  My phone stays in locked mode most of the time but I still want to recieve alerts for new messages as soon as they arrive.  I'm also concerned about privacy so I don't want any text or preview or even any information about the sender to appear on the lock screen.  I just want a vibration or audible alert.

Open the Settings app > Notifications > Messages. Scroll down adn turn OFF "View In Lock Screen". You may want to consider setting Alert style to none, but this will not impact what happens when the screen is locked.

  • ITunes opens but without any text showing.  Drop down menus have text but not the app itself. I have a Mac Powerbook Pro running Windows XP under Boot Camp.

Running under Windows XP,  a few upgrades ago iTunes started opening without any text showing in the application.  Clicking on PLAY will play music but no text shows to indicate what's playing and no text to show music library. Drop down windows show text but not the app itself.
Subsequent upgrades and reinstalls have not corrected the problem, When I run under iOS (Snow Leopard), iTunes opens with text and runs correctly.
    Help!

Because I created FAT32 partition using Boot Camp tool few days ago I installed my custom copy of Windows XP with SP3, IE7 and WMP10 integrated using nLite (for WMP10 integration use RVM Integrator). I did not use Boot Camp tool this time - I just booted CD using Option key. Then I installed Boot Camp 2.0 drivers you can find on Mac Disk 1. After this I installed Boot Camp drivers 2.1 update. In Add or remove Programs I checked drivers - I uninstalled old drivers which call identical, but you can skip this. Everything works fine BTW it is better to format your partition to NTFS - you have much less disk errors, you do not waste time for disk errors scans during Windows startup, your data are much more safe. If you need NTFS write permissions use great tool Paragon NTFS for Mac OSX or open source NTFS driver.

  • Issue with contacts not showing in my contacts but show up in messaging

Contacts in messaging show in blue green and grey. The grey are not stored in my contacts. When I text one of the grey contacts it shows the name until I send the text then it switches to just their number.

The grey contacts aren't stored on your phone.    That's why it doesn't display their name.
Somewhere up until now, you either a) had that contact in your phone and had a conversation with them and then deleted the contact, or b) sent or received a text that number but never added the contact info.    The # is cached in your device (It can be erased if you hit the ! to the right)

  • Someone use my phone # to send a text someone in my contacts.   Is this possible without access to my phone?

A text message appeared on my phone this morning that I did not send.  It was sent to someone in my contacts.  Is this possible without access to my phone?

Your carrier has a record of your IMEI number, & you can also get it from the box, if you still have the box. You can also get it from iTunes:

  • HT4623 is anyone else having problems with receiving and sending text messages. most people in my contacts are not getting messages that i send to them.

is anyone else experiencing problems with (SMS) text messaging. Most all of my daily contacts dont receive my messages.

Make sure you have checked off iCloud contacts in your Contacts app under Groups in upper left corner.

  • Having horrible service with 4GLTE I have had 3G for several weeks (I am not the only person I know having this problem), I have reset my network settings and it did not resolve the issue.  I am also unable to send SMS and text messages without them eithe

Having horrible service with 4GLTE I have had 3G for several weeks (I am not the only person I know having this problem), I have reset my network settings and it did not resolve the issue.  I am also unable to send SMS and text messages without them either failing or not sending at all.  Is there an outage in the Cleveland, Ohio area (zip codes 44129, 44134, 44137) or anything else I can do to resolve this issue?

Not that I'm a Verizon employee, but I have experience in the field. An LTE tower will only extend up to, on a perfect day, with no elevation, 6-7 miles. On a typical day, you will be lucky at four (4) miles. The three ZIP codes you've given are all within about a 12 mile radius. That would mean that 2-3 towers are currently down at the same time, and Verizon would know about it within the hour. Being it's Cleveland, I'm sure they would receive numerous calls regarding an outage of that size.
My point is that if you're having issues in all three ZIP codes, chances are it's a phone issue. If you're handset is simply not receiving LTE, but still receiving 3G, that would signify a SIM card issue. You need to get your SIM card replaced.

  • IPod touch - text messaging - without wifi?

I've seen this question in the archives, but nothing since 2012.
Is it possible for the latest generation iPod Touch to send text messages without a wifi connection?
Perhaps there's an app for this?
    Thanks -

No, not at all.  Any texting app or even emailing a text to a recipient carrier's gateway will require an internet data connection.  An iPod Touch only has one single way to interact with the internet at all - that is wifi.
Without wifi and with no other form of communication built into the device, how on earth could it send any message?  Magic?
There are internet-based texting apps for iPod Touches and wifi-only iPads, but those apps use an internet connection to actually send or receive anything.

  • How to I get my contact names to show up in messages and phone calls?

My contact names have stopped showing up in messages and phone calls.  How do I fix this problem?

Did you change your region settings recently? (if so, set it back to the region you had before)
Have you checked to see if your contacts are syncing properly in iCloud? (do the contacts match what you have online?)

i can't update my itunes and it shows me this message: The installer has insufficient privileges to access this directory: C:/program files/itunes. The installation cannot continue. Log on as administrator or contact your system administrator

    Hello PamelaFox14,
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
It sounds like you need to log in as the administrator to update the iTunes application properly.
Take a look at this article named:
Trouble installing iTunes or QuickTime for Windows
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1926
    This section in particular:
    1. Make sure you have administrator account access
To install iTunes or QuickTime software, you need to be logged in as an administrator on the computer. If you're not sure if you have administrator account access, you may find this Microsoft article helpful:
Windows 7: How do I log on as an administrator?
Otherwise, refer to the Help documentation from Microsoft, contact your IT department, or visitsupport.microsoft.com for more information.
    All the best,
    Sterling
