Contacts and groups

is there a maximum number of contacts? is there a max # of contacts per group?
i want to set up some large email lists - if there is a max on verizon.net , will it work if i do it in outlook?
Solved!
Go to Solution.

For your verizon.net addressbook, you have a max of 300 entries. That includes individuals AND groups. So if you have 38 contacts and two groups, that makes 40 entries. If you use an email client, you will not have this restriction.
You cannot send to more than 100 contacts at a time using Verizon's servers, and no more than 500 in an hour. This is stated in their email policy here.
The following limits apply with respect to the sending of e-mail from your verizon.net e-mail account. These rules are in place in order to help fight spam (i.e., unsolicited e-mail). For more information on Verizon Online's efforts to fight spam, please see the Verizon Online Anti-Spam Policy.
You may not include more than 100 recipients in a single email. Messages will not be sent to any recipients in excess of 100.
You may not exceed 500 recipients in 1 hour. Exceeding 500 recipients in 1 hour will result in the suspension of your ability to send email for 24 hours. This does not affect your ability to receive email.
It is important to note that the restrictions on the number of recipients/messages apply regardless of whether you use verizon.net or an email client. If you need to send more messages, I'd suggest finding another outgoing server to use.

How can I stop my iPhone from synching my contacts and groups lists twice....I am using iCloud but am not sure how correct this duplication.

Go into Settings>Mail, Contacts, Calendars. Is this happening at the bottom in the signature section, or in the header of the mail where your email address is? If it is the signature, then go to the Signature area of the Mail settings. If this is in the header, then go to the account in question and edit your account information to include your name instead of Johnny.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Check that you don't have more than one account in your contacts, such as 'iCloud' and 'On My Phone'.

  • HT4759 So I moved my contacts and calendars to icloud. THEN I find out that 2010 outlook is not supported--so how do I get all of my contacts and groups back into OUtlook 2010. It had better not be one at a time.

I moved my contacts and groups as well as calendars to icloud. Nor I can't use them in outlook 2010--which I now know is not supported--how do I reverse what I have done?

Outlook 2010 is supported, as is 2007.

  • How can i send a email to multiple people on my ipad2 using the contact and group list downloaded from my iMac.  Thank you

I am 63 yrs old and not to computer literate.  I know how to send an email to multiple people using my contact list and groups on my IMAC.  I tried using a group name downloaded to my Ipad2 from my IMac.  It does not work.  If I choose a single email address it works.  Any idea what I am doing wrong?
Thank you for your paitence and help.
    Steve

You are not doing anything wrong. The feature that you need is totally lacking in the built in Mail app on the iPad.
There are a couple of third party mail apps that will let you do this ... MailShot and Group Email with Attachments. You can check them out in the App Store.

  • What do I do about contacts and groups not synced from iPhone to iCloud?

I've been syncing my contacts with my Mac (Snow Leopard, not Lion) via iTunes for years now. It's worked well enough, but I don't sync with my Mac that often (typically weeks between syncs), so I've worried a little bit about losing data entered on my iPhone before it gets on my Mac.
Before: Mac <-iTunes contacts sync-> iPhone
A week or so ago I backed up contacts, calendars and my whole iPhone (and my Mac) then upgraded my iPhone to iOS 5. It took a while (hours) but seemed to work.
Then I set up iCloud contact syncing.
    What I intended: Mac <-iTunes contacts sync-> iPhone <-iCloud contacts sync-> iCloud
After setting up iCloud contact sync, the trouble began.
I looked at my iPhone contacts and saw that instead of the half dozen groups they were organized into before, they were all in one iCloud group. I found I could make new groups and assign contacts to them on iCloud and they'd sync, but I'm not interested in redoing work organizing hundreds of contacts that iOS and iCloud lost for me.
Shortly I discovered that some contacts were just missing. Poof. Gone after the iCloud sync.
I've hesitated before syncing with my Mac again. I don't want to have the messed up groups and the deleted contacts propogate back to my Mac.
I've also hesitated because I don't see a way to disable iTunes contact syncing before actually plugging in my iPhone — the options for managing what gets synced only seem to appear when the iPhone is connected, and sync starts automatically.
    Suggestions for how to proceed?
    Thanks!

I found out how to disable automatic syncing:
In the device’s Summary pane, you can set iTunes to automatically sync your device when it’s attached to your computer. To temporarily override this setting, hold down Command and Option (Mac) or Shift and Control (PC) until you see your iPhone appear in the sidebar.
I'm still looking for suggestions about how to proceed to get contacts with groups synced.
    Thanks again!

  • Address Book Contacts and Groups Randomly Disappear

I have been having an odd problem with my Address Book lately. From time to time when I open Address Book, all of the groups will have disappeared, except for the smart groups. After I go through and recreate all of my groups, I can close the application and reopen it without having lost them, but then a few weeks or months later they'll be gone again.
Today I had an even stranger problem. I was filling in the birthday field for several existing cards and in the middle of typing, almost all of my contacts disappeared. The only ones left were the ones that I had just created yesterday. Fortunately, I had backed up my database yesterday, but this seems like a serious problem.
I share my address book with my wife via .Mac. I'm not sure if that affects anything, although my computer does seem to spend a lot of time syncing whenever I have Address Book open.
I don't think this is a problem of low disk space as I still have over 11 GB left on my hard drive.

I have been having the same problem. Contacts will disappear randomly. It is very frustrating especially when you go to write an email and realize that mail no longer has an email address for someone and you know that you have to input all of their info again.
I wish Apple would figure this problem out.

  • HT2486 I recently updated to Lion, when I accessed my address book I now have duplicates of cards that are in my contacts and groups. When I try to merge it says they come from different accounts. Any suggestions?

I recently updated to Lion, some of my groups lost members and when I add them back in I get duplicate and even more of the same card. I am not allowed to merge the because the msg says they come from different accounts, any suggestions?

You likely have them in both the On My Mac account and the iCloud account. I deleted all from my On My Mac account except the ones I didn't want iClouded. Did the opposite on the iCloud account.

  • How do I move a contact from group A to group B

How can I move or manage my contacts between multiple groups

    Hello Buzzbeer2,
It sounds like you would like to move a contact from one group to another.  You can do this by dragging the contact from one group to the other and then deleting the contact from the original group.
Use the steps below to achieve this:
    Add contacts to a group
    Click All Contacts.
Drag one or more contacts from the All Contacts list to another group on the left.
You can add a contact to more than one group.
To select several adjacent contacts, click the first one, then Shift-click the last one. To select multiple nonadjacent contacts, Command-click them on a Mac or Control-click them on a Windows computer.
iCloud: Create a group and add contacts to it
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH2667
Step 1 above says to select All Contacts, but you can also drag a contact from another group.  Once you have added the contact to the appropriate group, you can remove it from the previous group by following these steps:
Remove a contact from a group
Select the group the contact belongs to.  If you don’t see your groups, click the Groups button.
Choose Edit > Remove From Group.  The contact is removed from the group but stays in Contacts.
Contacts: Edit or delete contacts and groups

  • HT1692 iPhone shows duplicate contacts and categories and will not sync. help

Contacts are not syncing, iphone has duplicates in contacts and groups and I don't seam to be able to over-ride or replace duplicates.
    Have any Ideas?

That's usually a USB timing error. I would unplug the phone and replug it in, also try different USB ports and cords if you've got 'em. Make sure your iTunes program is up to date as well

  • Double Contact and Calendar Entries

I have an iPhone 4 running iOS5 and an iMac running OS 10.6.8.  I foolishly got caught up in the iCloud fervor and converted my Mobile me account to iCloud - BIG MISTAKE.  I can still sync Contacts and Calendars, wirelessly (very slick), using iTunes. On the Calendar on the iMac, all previous Events are entered twice.  Not the end of the world, but messy.  Newly entered Events don't double enter, so far so good.  BIG problem is that on the iPhone, all my Contacts and Groups are entered TWICE; this does not carry over to the iPhone.  Settings on the iPhone > iCloud are Contacts ON, Calendar OFF.  I think that the double contacts appeared when I turned OFF Contacts on the iPhone.  When I did a Sync, it said that there were 608 Contacts on the iPhone that should be updated on the iMac.  I opted not to Sync them, hence no double enteries on computer.  How do I get rid of the double Contact enteries on my iPhone?  I know the easy solution would be to install Lion on the computer and Sync with the Cloud, but I have way too many PowerPC apps to make this practical or affordable.

If you are syncing with iTunes, you do not want to sync via iCloud (and vice-versa).
OOn yoru computer System prefs iCloud and tick Contacts.
    Select the iPhone in iTunes.
Click the Info tab and uncheck Sync contacts (because you do not want them to sync via iTunes).

  • Groups in Windows Contacts and Syncing

On my PC I run Vista and Windows Mail which utilizes Windows Contacts. I have approx. 500 contacts in WC, some of which are mine and some are my wife's. I created two new contact groups within WC, one for myself and one for my wife, and copied the whole list of 500 contacts to each. This now gives me three separate lists - the main group, my group and her group, which are all identical. As expected, we can edit and customize the individual groups (mine and hers) with no problem, and (also as expected) if one edits the main group it also changes the two sub groups. So for example if I delete an entry in the main list it also deletes it from the two sub group lists. So far so good.
    Now, when I sync our individual iphones, I can get each phone to pick up our individual lists also with no problem. However, my problem is this;
If I make changes to my contact list ON MY iphone (for example deleting contacts), when I sync it with my PC the next time, it will cause the deletion of those contacts in both my contact list on the PC, AND in the main contact list so they are lost forever.
Another thing I don't quite understand is how to delete "All Contacts" from the iphone. I don't think that you can. It seems as though "All Contacts" is a default that cannot be changed and is generated by compiling all of the individual contact lists on the iphone.
    Thanks

    Hi there,
the only way to move a contact from one group to another is making the change within the Adressbook app on your Mac (or via the corresponding Windows application which should in all likelihood be MS Outlook) and afterwards sync your iPhone via iTunes or MobileMe.
Moving contacts between groups on the iPhone itself is currently not possible, maybe iOS 5 will change that.
    Regards, Chris

How do I Add groups to my contacts and delete a contact once it's in the group

    Hello mstern613
The way the organization works is that it will have an all contacts and then your grouped contacts. You would not be able to just have the grouped contacts with out it being in all contacts. You can organize them on your iPhone by following the steps in the iPhone User Guide.

  • Can't drag and drop individual contact into group?

I upgraded from SL to Lion. In the address books, I still have the individual contacts as well as groups. However, when I add new individual contacts and then drag them into a pre-existing group, it doesn't work. In fact, I can't figure out how to add new contacts to the groups. When I try to great a new group, it gives it the name "untitled" and I can't figure out how to change it or delete it (the delete option is greyed out in the edit menu).
    Can anyone help?
Also, is there a way of restoring the three pane view instead of the present two pane view?
    Thanks!

I need an answer to this, too! There seems to be no way to move contacts around unless you start new groups!
HELP! I'm beginning to be sorry I switched to Lion...
