Contacts bac to mac or iCloud?

Hello,
new iPhone user so probably this question will sound silly.
How do I get the contacts on my phone transfered either to my mac or iCloud?
If I go to APP on the iphone menu once connected to iTunes, the list of apps that can be used with "file sharing" doesn't include contacts.
I believe there is something I am missing, because this sounds not logical at all.
Thanks

If that's an Exchange account, they won't. Things are designed that way, as the Exchange Server owns the data. You'll need an app to do what you want. Something like this:

I currently have 14,181 contacts that are on my computer, which an apple tech was nice enough to show me how to transfer all my contacts  from my mac 2 "iCloud " account all though when ever I log into my "iCloud" account from a different web browser it still only shows 13,032. Meanwhile on my mac book pro, the "icloud" contact is still spinning like its trying to update the rest of the missing contacts. I have let the computer run for 2 days straight and still no progress. Is there a limit to how many contacts I store on "iCloud" I have upgraded to the extra 25 gigs per year. If anyone has any advice I would greatly appreciate it, because its also slowing down my mac book pro significantly causing it hard to do any other task on my computer....Any advice or help would be again greatly appreciated.

On the surface, it doesn't sound like you're reaching a limit in the number of contacts you can have.
I would first create a contacts archive (file >> export) for a backup.  Then, go to system preferences >> icloud and uncheck contacts.  Reboot.  Return to those preferences and recheck contacts.
Also, review http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4489 just in case you have some contact cards that are reaching a different limitation.

  • Contacts - "On My Mac" and "iCloud" possible to sync?

Trying to sync contacts with my mac and my iOS devices through iCloud. It took me awhile to figure out what is actually happening here, even though it seems obvious now. Unfortunately I can find no way to do what I need.
Set up iCloud on iPad, iPhone, Safari on MacBook Pro, using fine. Noticed not all contacts syncing. Preferences on all devices say use iCloud, and use Mail and Contacts on all devices.
Finally noticed that on MacBook Pro Contacts, over on left page, at top left it says "All Contacts", under that "On my Mac", under that ""iCloud". Finally figured out that "On My Mac" contacts are separate from "iCloud" contacts (seems obvious). The contacts in "iCloud" are the only ones which sync with your iOS devices, and the MacBook Pro Mail program only adds contacts to "On My Mac" set. Yuck!
I can find no way to have contacts from Mail automatically add to the "iCloud" set of contacts instead of the "On My Mac" set. I cannot figure out how to get these contacts in the "On My Mac" set to sync to iCloud without some very fancy and complicated exporting, deleting, importing ALL contacts, and it is a lot easier just to type the contact info into a new card in the "iCloud" contact set, but I wish I could get iCloud to work automatically with Mail and "On My Mac" contacts, or find some setting or workaround so that I just don't even use or have the "On My Mac" contacts.
Does anyone know of some setting to allow me to use iCloud exclusively? That's why I want iCloud and Mac, to work together.
The way I often add contacts is:
In Safari, click an email link
In mail, a new email opens so I can send
click the triangle on the right end of the address in the "To" line
    a box appears
scroll down to the bottom, "Show Contact Card" (this used to automatically open the address book, but Mountain Lion unfortunately added a step here)
    A box appears
click upper right hand corner, "Open with Contacts"
    Edit card as needed
Note: this card appears with the "All Contacts" line highlighted on the left hand side of left page
It is also in "On My Mac" set
It is NOT in "iCloud" set, therefore will not sync with iOS devices
Anyone know how to get Mail to put its created contacts into iCloud to start with?

    Hi Virginia,
Try setting up your iCloud account in the Contacts preferences. Contacts>Preferences>Accounts:
Click the "+" to add your iCloud account, and when you get to this screen:
In the "Account Type" field, use the dropdown to select iCloud, then add your iCloud sign-on info.
Don't know if this will work, but my Contacts book only has "All Contacts" listed on the left-hand page - there is no "On My Mac" or "On iCloud" listed at all....
    Hope this helps!
    Cheers,

  • Number of contact cards on mac vs iCloud

Why are there 750 contact cards on my Macbook vs the 2500 cards in iCloud. If they are synced why wouldn't they be the same?

They appear not to be in sync.
On your Mac open Address Book (or Contacts if you have Mountain Lion, if you don't have Mountain Lion, tell me what you do have)
Go to the accounts page and make sure that there is an iCloud account and that it is the one you are looking at.

  • How do I stop google from deleting my contacts on my mac through iCloud?

A few weeks ago I deleted my google contacts - I never liked having them there - but now Google is insisting on syncing my contacts.  I kept saying "no" but it came back, and somehow I lost all of my contacts last week.  Today I restored them from Time Machine back into my address book on my mac, but now Google is saying they want to sync again.  I've googled solutions and haven't found any that work with the current iCloud.  I sync my iPhone, iPod touch and iPad with my MacBook (running 10.7.3) through iCloud.  I only get this error on my mac.  I've turned off all of my non-mail sync settings on all of my devices and still I can't get this to go away.  Any ideas??

Had no idea that was there - hopefully that will fix it.  Thanks!  It amazes me in all of the posts on this topic, that it was never mentioned that there is a google button in preferences.
    Crossing my fingers - thanks!

  • **Syncing Contacts ("On My Mac") to iCloud**

Hellpppp! Cannot find the answer to this question anywhere!
    Mid 2009 MBP
Lots of free disk space (not that that is entireley relevant)
Nothing on iCloud so far so free space there too
    OSX Lion
iCloud enabled on iPhone 5 (iOS 6) and enabled on Mac, boxes checked on both devices for 'Contacts, Calendars...'
How do I get contacts that are "On My Mac" to sync to iCloud? (Also curious to link up my calendar in iCal too, which is not syncing)
Any help or advice greatly appreciated,
    Thank you

Thanks for the replies guys. Screenshots attached in response to both of your comments.
woodmeister50 - I have signed into iCloud / enabled it in Address Book already. Screenshot attached = "Example - Address Book"
pvonk - I have tried doing this (hopefully the attached shot of the window  is the part of the app to which you refered me) and it doesn't work on that particular screen. Is this what you meant? Screenshot = "Contact Groups Example"
P.s. got iCal working! But contacts/"Address Book" is still a problem.

  • Why my iPhone contacts, in groups, shows "my Mac" and "iCloud"?

I had configured both my iPhone and my Mac Mini to sync with iCloud. But in both contacts, there are two main groups: The first one is "From My Mac" and the second one is "iCloud". All groups that i created (friends, family, work, etc...) appears to be a sub-group from "iCloud". It´s two different lists, but some contacts are in both lists. I want to have just one main group, iCloud, and have all my gadgets syncing with it, but I didn´t find any way to merge the contacts in just one list. What can I do?
By the way, I tried the tool to merge duplicated contacts in the Mac Mini contacts, but when I do that, appears a message telling me that can´t merge the contacts because they are in diferent groups.

I forgot to say: when I used the tool to find duplicated contacts in my Mac, it didn´t find the contacts that are in both groups.

  • How do I get the contacts from my mac to syn with icloud? I need to back up my phone and don't want to lose my contacts when I get a new phone.

How do I get the contacts from my mac to sync with Icloud? I need to back up my phone since I will be receiving a new one tomorrow and the icloud contacts are not the same as the ones on my mac.  Help me

OS X Lion. 10.7. Your profile says your running 10.6.8, which is Snow Leopard. You need 10.7 to use iCloud with your Mac.

  • How to sync both on my mac and icloud contacts

Why do I have calendars and contacts for both "On my Mac" and "iCloud"?  I want them to sync together so I don't have to edit both.  How do I go about syncing them as one?

On my mac calendars are intended to be private calendars that aren't synced, if you merely want all your calendars synced delete any calendars that are on my mac (or just uncheck them to hide them - make your default calendar an iCloud calendar) and just use iCloud calendars.
If you have any appointments in your on my mac calendars, double click them to edit and change the calendar to an iCloud calendar before deleting or hiding.

  • Contacts ok on mac & iphone, but missing in icloud

Something strange happened. My contacts on Mac and iPhone are the same but on the icloud website some are missing. I think the most recent added after I updated to Mountain Lion are missing. But I am not 100 percent if this did not already happen before.
So contacts created on the mac show up on the iphone but NOT on the icloud site
Contactes created on the iphone show up on my mac but not on the iphone website
And groups to which I added contacts on the mac show up twice on my iphone, one old group with the contact not added and one new group with the contact added. On my mac I have only one version of that group.
On the iphone website the group is the old one with no added contacts.
Any idea what to do except back up frequently and archive my contacts every day?

I'd wait.  iCloud (or parts of it) seems to be down today (check the other icloud forums for more posts on email problems).  Perhaps your problem is due to the down servers.  The day may come back - check for posts that claim iCloud is back up.

  • How do I fix my contacts which because of the iCloud are double and triple listed on my Mac, iPhone and iPad?

I find that my contacts on my Mac book Pro, iPhone 4s, and iPad2 are double or triple listed.  I have used time machine to restore a clean set of contacts, but the cloud keep adding double and triple listings of contacts, making more of a mess that I started with. How do I clean this up and return to a normal set of contacts?

Actually, I spent two days and all I did was make it worse. So, I finally called Apple and after an intense hour, she (apple) fixed it. I could never have done this myself. My problem was an obscure file in Address Book needed to be deleted and then I could reach back in Time machine and restore address book. Prior to that all my restores were by corrupted by iCloud. Until that file was deleted, I keep getting double entries. The file was something like .v22abcd.. But that was my problem, yours could be different

  • How to get contacts in my Mac Book Pro (and not only on iCloud)

Hello. God Icould for contacts, works well between Mac Book pro (MBP) and Ipad .. but on the MBP I have only the "iCould" contacts and not the "on My Mac" contacts.
So when I connect my blackberry to grab Mac contacts, none are transfered as the balckberry seems to locate only the contacts on the Mac Book (not the ones on iCloud).
Thanks a LOT if you have any tip

Go to users and groups and choose only your iCloud Contacts to display.
Ensure that nothing is typed in the search field.
Click to select the first contact and shift-click the last to select them all.
Drag the list of contacts to your desktop.
Make sure your On My Mac account is your default account (preferences > general).
Select All On My Mac contacts from users and groups.
Drag the file you previously dragged to your desktop back onto Address Book.
You might want to back up all your contacts before you begin.
Select All contacts in users and groups
Click to select the first contact and shift-click the last to select them all.
Drag the list of contacts to your desktop.

  • How do I move contacts from the group "All from my Mac" to iCloud?

prior to my problem, I was using Microsoft Exchange for years to keep my contacts in my phone, so if i were to delete the exchange account, my contacts would go with it. I deleted my Microsoft Exchange account (copied all my contacts onto a spreadsheet beforehand) and was left with an empty phone except for a couple of contacts I had created on my iMac which transferred into my phone under "All from my my Mac". Now, I've attempted to manually input the contacts from the spreadsheet into my phone, which caused the contacts from my phone to sync into Contacts in my iMac. I want my contacts to sync into icloud, but i don't know how i can "move" them into iCloud. please help!

If you still have access to the exchange account, the easiest thing to do is add it to your phone (Settings>Mail,Contacts,Calendars>Add Account>Exchange, then turn Contacts on in the exchange account), then do the following on your phone to copy them to iCloud:
Go to Settings>iCloud, turn Contacts to Off, choose Delete from My iPhone when prompted (any iCloud contacts will still be in iCloud).
Download the app My Contacts Backup.  (If you have more than 500 contacts to copy from your exchange account you will need the “Pro” version.)  Use the app to back up the remaining contacts on your phone (from the exchange account) as a vCard attachment to an email that you send to yourself.  Confirm that you have received the email.
Go to Settings>iCloud and turn Contacts back to On.
Go to Settings>Mail,Contacts,Calendars>Default Account (in the Contacts section) and set this to iCloud.
Go to Settings>Mail,Contacts,Calendars…tap your exchange account account and delete it from your phone again (or at least turn Contacts off).
Open the My Contacts Backup email and tap the attachment to import the contacts from your account back to your iPhone, and to iCloud.

  • How can sync Contacts on My Mac with my Icloud Contacts?

Does anyone know how can set up a sync between "Contacts on My Mac" and my "Icloud Contacts"?  I am looking to get a complete copy in both locations.  Is there a way to do it in the OS or any reliable third party software?  Any help is much appreciated... thanks!

Outlook for Mac is not compatible with iCloud. The only people who can fix this are Microsoft, who, so far, refuse to support the industry standard CalDAV and CardDAV protocols iCloud uses in their Mac products.
Microsoft would prefer you use their own proprietary syncing solution - Exchange - to sync with Outlook.
Although Microsoft don't support open sync protocols, Apple do support both open and closed protocols so Macs, iPhones and iPads all support syncing with Microsoft Exchange, as well as with iCloud, Google Sync and others.
If you insist on using Outlook for Mac, you'll have to switch over to a Microsoft Exchange based system to sync with your iOS devices.
