Contacts by Company?

I really need the contact manager to list contacts by company like MS Outlook. I cannot create a folder for each company, because the contacts are already arranged into folders by geographic region in Outlook on the exchange server. Blackberry has this ability and if I knew I couldn't do it on an iphone, I probably would have not chosen it. Surely there is third party software or something Apple is working on to correct this. I can't be the only one needing this ability? Any help would be apreciated.

I want this too, at least for some of my contacts. The only way the iPhone will do this is if the business doesn't have a person's name, then it will list the company first.

I depend on being able to sort my Contacts by "Company, Last Name" where is this preference feature on the Treo 650 in Contacts.
If this is not possible the Treo becomes useless to me.

Yes you can "sort" by Company Name BUT....you cannot "search" by Company Name -- when you try a search it just keeps searching in the "name" fields and does NOT return a Company Name.
--if you know the name of the person you want to call (which you more than likely will) then searching by name is fine
but
--if you can't remember their name (or there are multiple names) but want to look up the company and then scroll through list of names at that company -- forget it -- I can't make it work.

Sort contacts by company in the address book dialog

Hi all,
When I create a new email, I click "to" to select the recipient. In the dialog box, I select my own address book (not the Exchange one), but I am not able to sort contacts by company. I only have display name and email columns. Right click does
not works.
I red this was not possible, but it seems weird that I can sort by company in the Exchange address book and not in my own AB.

I can confirm that we cannot sort contacts by company in our own Address Books. As a workaround, we may use
Advanced Find beside the address book to find the people from a specific company.
Although Outlook is now a quite powerful tool, it is still not perfect. Outlook considers users' feeling very important and may make the change to make itself a more powerful and easy-to-use product.

Sort contacts by company

I just bough the new Iphone 4. Can you sort contacts by company rather than name?

In iOS 4 and 5 you could do it by creating the company name first, saving it and then going back to add the first and last name. In iOS 7 it is not possible to sort by company name no matter what you do.

Sort Contacts by Company Workaround

I keep all contacts on the iPhone and do not sync. I create a complete contact record for each person and sort and display them by last name. I then create a "contact" for each company, putting the company name in the Last Name field. I then "Add Field" and use the "Note" field to list all contact names with their title. This works as a simple cross reference to look up contacts by company name, and then go to their detail information. It's actually quite easy when there are only a few contacts at each company.

Since I started the company "contact" concept after creating full details for some individuals, the first company entries contain only names in the Note field. Now, I'll start putting the company address in that record, and just phone numbers, email address, etc. in the individual contact entries.
Note: I originally synced with my Outlook contacts, but so much garbage came over that I decided to not do that anymore after an extensive cleanup on the iPhone, leaving a small file of about 200 contacts. I just discovered the Windows Address Book option, and have synced with that to give me a clean backup.

Is it possible to sort contacts by company name rather than first name,last name etc?

This is a HUGE shortcoming of Nokia's contacts app, which is still the most awkward and "old style numeric keypad telephone" oriented applications in the Nokia software suite on smartphones.
It's the only reason why I am still sometimes missing my Blackberry. There you find everything so quickly, and not only just typing in the individual's name, nor having to use that Nokia general search tool.
But now that Nokia FINALLY introduced a year ago "finding names typing", without launching the contacts application first I still have the hope that Nokia will release one day a REALLY user friendly, fast and flexible fully integrated agenda suite...

Workaround - Sort Contacts by Company

Until Apple provides an update to allow sorting contacts by company, I found a short workaround.
Simply create a new contact, entering ONLY the company name. Save completely out of it (tapping "Save" twice.) Go back into the contact, tap Edit, and enter any other information you would as usual.
The contact will then forever sort by company, not by name.

Another way to do this is after syncing. Your new addresses should sync with Address Book. Just go into Address Book, edit the contact and mark the check box that says Company.
I can't say that I do this every time I sync, but I just go down the list while I have a second or am sitting on hold waiting for somebody.

Sorting Contacts by company

Is there a way to view contacts by company. What I am trying to do is group multiple contacts by their company. I have chosen to view by "company, last name" but I would like to be able to search the company name to find the contact I seek.

Then I need to select "Find More," and it searches one more Mobile DB database, then finally gets to the Contacts database.
So, I finally see the contact that I want on the second screen -- only because I don't have a lot of contacts with that particular company name that I searched.
I select the contact. But, it then shows me the full view of the contact record, not the Contacts database list view. So, I have to choose "Done."
Then I can finally move the cursor down to the proper phone number to tell the Treo 680 dial it.
Not exactly convenient nor fast.
I believe this has changed from the way the Palm OS use to work. I think that if you wanted to find "Legacy Mortgage Company" with the older OS's that you could just type "Leg..." and be there. That was MUCH better. That is also the way it will still work on the Palm Desktop.
So, if you want it to go to Legacy Mortgage when you type "Leg..." you can move the contact name into another field, like making a first line of the "Title" field, and making the second line be the real title. But then, the contact name doesn't appear in the Contacts database list view at all. If you have ANY situation on your Palm where there are several contacts at the same company, that is not a good workaround, I don't think.
To make this situation all the worse and sillier that it works like this, the Palm Desktop works just the opposite. If you have a contact at Legacy Mortgage, you just type "Leg..." there and it takes you right to the record.
You would think Palm could at least be consistent.
If you sort by Company, Last Name, typing the first few letters of the company's name should take you too it, even it you do happen to have a name in the Last Name or First Name fields.
Why the hell did they change this? I've got 800+ contacts that I'll have check to see if I need to massage them around and change the fields where the name or company information is.
I was searching for ideas to this delima when I happened upon this thread. I'll keep looking to see if there are any real answers on the forum.

Is there any way I can view all my contacts by company in the native Mac Contacts program? I can only see options to view by first or last name...

There a work around by changing the name (maybe too much work if you have thousands of contacts)
example:
First: John Doe
Last: XYZ corp
Company XYZ corp
First: Peter Pan

Error getting license. License server communication problem E_AUTH_BAD_DEVICE_KEY_OR_PKCS12. Does anyone know how to fix this? I have contacted the company that I purchased the download from, and they say it is an Adobe Digital Editions problem.

Hi..
Delete the app then reinstall.
Hold the app icon down until all the apps jiggle then tap the x then tap Delete. Press the Home button once or twice to stop the jiggling.
Then go to the iTunes store and re download the app.
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
That should download the most recent version including whatever update was available.
You won't be charged again.

How to find some contact under Company option?

When you look for a contact under name or last name is very easy, but when you use your phone as integrated solution, most of the times you have to look for some contact under company name or other options different tha name or last name...how to do it? If can't, this will be a very good addition for the next version...keep this in mind you developing team! I use to have a Treo before a move to iphone, and this was a very nice option they have...take a look of this.

Marking a contact as "Company"

When I create an e-mail, it's so handy to just type in a customers name, and have their address pop right into my address line. However, I have many customers in my address book who I have the "Company" box checked in their contact, to help organize.
Why is it that if I check a contact as "Company", their address will not pop into my address line? For instance, one of my client's business name is Bethany's. I have their contact checked as a company. However, when in mail, if I type in Bethany's, no address comes in. Whereas, if I type in my contacts name with that company, it pulls right in.
Anyone know? Hope I haven't made that too confusing of a question.

Most of my addresses are ticked as Company, I see what you mean, I think it's just the program's focus, address book seems more focused on 'personal' use than business. If you go into preferences, it only lets you organised by first or second name - not company.
I suppose it stops you emailing the whole company by mistake thou !
